Hey.. anyone who's reading this...
So I flashed many roms here and I liked a lot of them.. but problem is the one I like most has the stock music player and I don't like it (I prefer poweramp)
So... I set on a quest to REPLACE the stock player with poweramp
What I did was use titanium backup to backup the stock player.. then DELETE it...
I then installed poweramp and used TB to make it a system app
AND IT WORKED! Oh wait it didn't...
The stock was successfully replaced BUT my phone STOPPED reading MP3 files at all
So I deleted poweramp and restored the stock... it was back to reading mp3 files.. I installed poweramp WHILE the stock was still there and it read mp3.. but when I remove the stock it stops reading them....
HELP?

Ok, personally i dont use titanium backup so cant comment on it, but this is what i normally do when replacing some system app.
1. use root uninstaller to remove the system app or basically any app that is installed on your phone\sd.
2. install the 3rd party app of my choice
3. if you using apps like link2sd, then in most ocassions the 3rd party app will get installed on your sd card. Once the app is installed on the sd card, you lose the widget functionality. In order to use it, i move the app back to phone using apps like link2sd and the widget of the app (if supported) starts listing again under 'widgets'.

Really? Most of my apps are stored in my sd card. And I can back them up just fine using titanium backup.

This appliable only in case when you are taking backup as in copy /data/app you also need to take backup of app apeksha from sdcard also that's why we have backup software's.

well i figure that out when i tray to make a backup of all my apps, from /data/app every time y try to install a new rom and try to move them to apps folder over flashtool prog,, then try to install then whit flash,...
thanks
Noobish concern, really. And I couldn't make heads or tails from similarly-named threads.
So what I did is I copied some system apps to a folder on my sd. Thereafter I deleted both apk and odex files from the system/app folder hoping that copying them back will be just as easy.
Earlier today I tried copying the MoviePlayer apk and odex back. While it did copy, no amount of rebooting or cache clearing made it return to my apps list. I tried installing it by just running the apk from the sd but it had a permission issue.
Help on this? I might have other system apps to restore later like the music and messaging apps.
Next time you back up an app, use titanium backup. As for restoring it, you may have to download root explorer. Launch it then navigate to /system/app/ then click mount as r/w then paste the .apk & .odex files.

Titanium may back up a system app, but when you remove it, you can't restore it. God knows, I tried. Instead of the smiley it's just a check and there's no option to restore. Unless I'm doing something wrong here.
I already tried copying the. apk/.odex back in r/w mode using root explorer. That's the first thing I did.
Luckily I did the same thing like you before. You may have to download and flash (SAPPS.zip) or (Custom ROM)- this one I did.

Also, forget stock movie & music player, just use Doubletwist. It's a music and video player with an awesome UI.

I'll try SAPPS. Actually, maybe it's time for me to try a custom rom. de/void has been catching my attention recently.
The only reason why I started with the stock movie player is because I know that's expendable... just wanted to know how hard/easy it would be to put stock apps back.
And yes, I'll give doubletwist a try. Thanks!

I'm currently running Eclipse 0.2.2 and am trying to reinstall the dlna application that came with the phone, but can't (using my titanium backup er... Backup). Are there any alternative apps that do the same thing, or is there a way to reinstall the stock dlna app? Thanks.
(I've tried a couple from the market but none of them can find my Tversity server)

Go here http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/droid-x2-hacks/27237-droid-x2-system-dump.html
Download the system dump zip.
Go into zip using root explorer( if I don't have it I recommend buying it its worth it)
go to system folder
go to app folder
Extract all DLNA apks and odex(s)
Go to extracted folder and select the files u just extracted
Move them to your system/app folder after u mount system as r/w using burton on top of root explorer screen.
Remount as r/o then reboot..it should be available now.
good luck
This should also work for other apks. I have been looking for a gingerbread dump if anyone could post that that would be great although I have had no problems installing any of these apks I've tried. Did the music camera toggle widgets etc and all worked no problems.
I will get you guys some of the stock apps and zip them up so they can be flashed.

Are you on stock rom or custom ROM.
IF you are on stock rom then you cannot uninstall stock apps.
If you uninstall them somehow then also factory/data reset wont bring them back.

Download the app called 'AppSaver' from the market. It backs up the .apk files of all the apps on your phone and stores them on the SD card. So whatever you do with the phone, the .apks are always there on the SD card and you can install all the apps again, without downloading them from the market.
P.S. the app takes backup of only the .apk and not the data. Eg: If you back up Angry birds, it just backs up the .apk and the levels/scores you achieved would not be backed up.

you can be rooted and still be using the stock rom. in that case, just install titanium backup or root uninstaller, both of which give you the option to uninstall stock apps
Hi guys, after using CM for more than 2 months on my phone I have decided to go back to stock ROM, but I have a few questions first:
1. Can I install the stock ROM on my phone without a computer?
2. Will, after installing the stock ROM, the root go away?
3. How can I backup the apps I have installed in .apk file format?
4. Does it matter what country's ROM I am installing? For example, I have an S3 bought from Saudi Arabia but I'm living in another country, and it's working fine.

1. Yes you can. Download mobile odin from play store and download the stock firmware (. Tar) file to your phone. Then launch mobile odin and add file.
2. Yes it will
3. Use titanium backup.
4. It does not matter. But try to flash the one for the country you are living in.

Titanium back up does not back up the apps in apk format. When u restore it however, it will ask u to read thru the permissions one by one and install MANUALLY. Hassle so if most of ur apps are downloaded from google play. Sync ur google account such tat when u flash stock back, all the apps are installed automatically and then go to titanium back up and restore the missing apps and data.

Oops, my bad. But there is the pro version which enables you to back them up into update.zip format, and you can install that zip through recovery.

I'm actually looking for a way to keep the apps with me all the time (when flashing through different ROMs) so I don't have to download them all over again. I guess I'll have to use titanium backup pro to make a zip file instead. Thanks anyways!
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
A Nandroid backup and restore data only is one way or Titanium backup pro will restore the lot in about 15 mins and no accepting permissions .
That is for similar build roms .
I have now found a way to backup apps manually. I searched for apk files using a file explorer, and found all the apps installed on my device in apk format. I simply copied the ones I wanted backed up (along with their data folders too, for those who had it) to my external SD card so I can install later when ever I want.
