[q] need help and ideas - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Today I lost my Samsung S3. Can't remember exactly what rom I had on it but I had a working jellybean 4.1 that allow me to use Fox fi/PDA net. I desperately need this program to allow me fast download speeds by Wi-Fi. I do not want to use tether because if my phone is not plugged into a power outlet the battery will die after all night of downloading. Basically I need pointed to a jellybean 4.1 ROM that is super stable. Jellybean 4.1 because Foxfi/PDA net only works with 4.1. Maybe a official jellybean from with just the bloatware gone. I have not been on the site for a while so I need a walk-through of what I need to do first with my phone as soon as I get it. Do I need to root it before I install the ROM? If you guys could tell me what I need to do and the order I need too. Maybe send me the links of the walk-throughs. I would be very grateful. As of right now I feel I'm screwed.:crying: please please help. I'm a Verizon wireless customer also.

I'm not sure which one I have because I receive my new phone tomorrow. But this link that you sent me seems like it should help me dramatically on how to do stuff. If I end up having the 9300 then I see where I can get the stock jellybean 4.1 but if I have the 9305 I'm not seeing it. do I root first or do I flash first before I install ROMs.

You neither root nor flash until you have read the basics .
Root has nothing to do with stock flash .
But please please be sure you know what you are doing first and are in the right forum .
Your older posts are not for this model SGS3 but a USA based version if its the same firmware or mods from International I9300 can easily brick your phone .

You start by reading one thing you read is the rules question goes in Q&A.
1) My android version is 2.3.4 but shouldn't it be a 2.3.3 or smth ?
Dont know about smth
2,3,4 is a valid rom why go backwards
2) It is a 16gb device, but on total space area it shows 11.50gb where is another 4.5 gb ? It is divided or what a hell?
Use Google or search XDA question asked millions of times .
3)GPS(navigation) seems broken or can't catch a signal(yes clear sky and stuff like that was done)
Read the GPS faqs.
4)samsung kies says my 2.3.4 is the latest version is that true ? if not which version if the latest on this device in this time ?
Kies is not telling lies .That is the latest firmware the phone provider has uploaded . Their are later stock firmwares but you need to read learn and understand first .
5)my s2 is from t-mobile poland but in my country there is no t-mobile but it works with any sim card, does this make a difference ?
To what ??

Seriously? No one wants to re-type answers that can be found by you clicking on a link.
Yes there are more current versions, but you must understand, to use the device more than just a conversation with your girlfriend or smth.., there are no shortcuts you need to read and believe me, it's addictive when you'll know what you wanna do.
good luck..

You may have mistaken this site for Samsung Support. It isn't.
Folks on here help out of a sense of community, they don't get paid for it.
The person you just told to feck off is very knowledgeable and answers a heck of a lot of questions nearly every day.
I am on the same T-Mobile UK network as you and have downloaded from here the very ROM you are looking for, although that has been updated since them. I could easily do the same search on here and point you the link, but would you know what to do with the file? Or have you already fully read the Odin flashing instructions on here?
My first time here was with the HTC Compact III, I read for at least a week all the stickies at the top of each section. When I was sure I wanted to flash a rom, I read and re-read the thread and was as well prepared as I could be.
I am deeply indebted to all those developers and the more knowledgeable on here, who turn my phone into something very special. The least I can do is search before I ask, because nearly every question has already been asked.
i know what to do

The BOKE3 was the origonal firmware for the T-Mobile UK SGSII.
BOKF3, BOKG2 and BOKK1 are revised firmwares.
The stock kernels are there if you have rooted your phone with a CF-Root kernel and then reflash with the stock kernel to get rid of the warning triangle at bootup.
The one you are looking for is not a T-Mobile UK ROM, but rather a Samsung Stock ROM for Europe. Flashing that would invalidate the phone's warranty (if you had to take it back to service). That said, that ROM is really old. For newer versions of Samsung stock ROM then look * HERE *

[Q] Few questions regarding flashing my Samsung galaxy s3 ( gt- i9300 ) to jellybean

Hi Folks
I am indeed a noob as the intro video to xda states. I am also aware that this post will annoy some of you. But i would appreciate it if you could take some time answering this
I have a few questions regarding flashing before i go ahead with this. I would very much appreciate it if you could oblige me with some answrs to the questions listed below :-
My phone is Samsung Galaxy S3 international version ( gt - i9300 ).
1.Will flashing to the poland release of jellybean result in me losing my APNs for mms and internet ? And will I have to reset those after flashing ?
2.Does flashing mean i void my warranty ?
3.will I get any future samsung bug fixes/ firmware updates/ any other updates from samsung after flashing ? 2nd part to this question -- since i am flashing to poland release .. will i get future updates from samsung when poland gets it or I just wont get it period
4.I have heard that if I reset my phone's CSC to the correct region after flashing , I might be able to get future updates from Kies. Is this information correct ?
5.If I manually have to update via odin any future updates, please link me to specific room in xda forum where any updates will be available as they come through
6.Do i have to remove my SD card and Sim card while flashing with odin ?
7.Will I lose any data/contacts/customisations after flashing with JB ?
8.How do i do a complete backup of the phone other than kies backup ?
9.Is anyone ,who has already done this, experiencing any troubles after updating to JB ?
Any answers and will be highly appreciated
Void warranty, contacts just sync to google. Contacts should stay, but sync it anyway. In case.
Customisations, not sure which customising you're talking about. Homescreen set ups and app data should be intact, unless you wipe data through recovery or something.
In any case, root using the root methods provided, and do a nandroid backup in custom recovery. Backups up the entire phone (exc sd). If anything unsatisfactory, you can always restore. I used cf root to root the phone.
I'm in the uk and I've flashed the polish one, no problem whatsoever using internet. Haven't tried mms.
As for updates, sammobile.com posts all official firmwares on their site. I9300 general forum also has a post with any firmwares. I'm not sure about automatic updates but you'll probably get the firmware posted on the forums before you get any otas so I haven't had the need to check this.
You can keep your sdcard and sim in the phone when doing any of this. Had no problem using the phone after update.
Hope this clears any questions you had. Enjoy your jelly bean

thanks
few followup questions :-
1. I do not want to root my phone. Is there a way to do a complete system backup without rooting. If not can i flash it back to stock ics firmware if anything goes wrong?
2. Could you please link me to sam mobile firmware site you are referring to
3. will reflashing to stock ics unvoid the warranty ?
There are ways to un-root your device and make customizations nearly undetectable
If done correctly rooting and flashing your device has a pretty low possibility of hard-bricking your S3
Softbricks may occur but with Odin/Recover Menu you're prettymuch good to go

Your questions seem to have all been answered above, but I just want to add that in addition to a Nandroid backup, you should specifically back up your EFS and store it safely somewhere on your computer.
This contains your IMEI, and you will be seriously screwed if it gets messed up.

Thanks a lot. I flashed my phone this morning. I am pleased to inform that i did not lose any data or customizations ( homescreen widgets / apps orientation etc)
I'm glad you flashed without any problems. If you're worried about things like your APN settings, your contacts, your text messages, etc... you can use MyBackup Pro (which I use, you can use it with or without root) or Titanium Backup if you're rooted (which I've never used so I can't really speak about it).
Can I unroot my I9300?
Hey, I plan to root my S3.
I had this is in mind. Can I unroot my I9300 in the future for warranty if I root it using CF-Auto-Root?
Help much Appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

[Q] How do i flash THIS ROM on S3

Hi guys,
i know most of you are thinking now why i dont search or google or something else but really i cant do anything about this.
I am new to flashing and rooting and i rooted my s3 ella i9300 version with the samsung toolkit v 7.0 via odin.
Now i would like to instlall this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2106471&nocache=1
But srsly, there is no good tutorial for newbies. i cant understand why the developers never try to help us noobs in such situations like this.
So please can anyone help me out? I went into the download section of the ROM but there are so many files i dont know which to take and download...
Thanks in advance

Yes but you would be better not flashing that rom . But spending time reading the basics first as you are lacking in even the first steps .
Noobs are expected to read first flash last this is a developers forum for developers . Those that don't bother to learn the basics are not going to be spoonfed .
So seriously you read the posted stickied faqs and guides or suffer a bricked phone your choice .

What i need to no is can somebody post a link to me and the latest easier way to root my S3 Please, sorry to have forgotton the whole thing but its been ages since i last rooted,
Also are there any latest sound boosting hacks that are available now ?
And finally sorry for posting in wrong section to the admin if i have.
Hope to get some help very soon.
Thankyou from Brian.
Makes no sense, this forum is for the i9300 international -if you have a sprint then you'll brick it with files from this forum.
Suggest you go read the sticky thread in general, rather than posting questions already asked a thousand times.
Start by finding out what phone you have .
Details are under the battery .
If it is an I9300 then all the information is posted .
Basics read first.

Critical you read the first two posts .
Likewise sound hacks are posted use search .

Oh i am of the same opinion your question made no sense as sprint verizon is USA and therefore would be in the wrong forum .Likely you would brick the phone if asking for
information here would be extremely high if that was the case and you suggest you have Vodaphone UK phone but ask about some other model .

I didn't intend any sarcasm, I don't want you to brick your phone but I'm not going to type information you can find for yourself in just a few moments.
