[Q] NFC Location? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hey,
I have an S4 but I activated it with my Note 2's SIM. I've heard that the S4 uses an NFC-SIM, does that mean without a new SIM i can't use NFC? Or are the NFC capabilities built into the phone itself?
Thanks guys!

I don't think it's a nfc sim. The s3 and s4 both have their nfc in the batteries. That why you'll see replacement batteries with and w/out nfc. I do know the nfc tagging is a different version with the s3 and s4. None of my nfc tags from my s3 work with my s4.

I think the NFC SIM is just an extra layer of security for their ISIS mobile payment app. I don't think it's required to just have NFC capabilities.

The NFC SIM is only needed for Isis.
The Broadcom NFC module is soldered to the phone's mainboard. The antenna is integrated into the battery.

Yeah, Mifare Classic tags are probably what you had and worked with the S3 (and many other phones) but don't work with the Broadcom NFC hardware on the S4. Stick to NTAG203 Tags, Topaz 512 Tags, or any tags that adhere to NFC Type 1 or Type 2 protocols and you'll be fine.
Like others said, the hardware is in the phone and antenna on the battery so you'll be fine!

[Q] NFC -- which regions? Write support?

Hi guys,
I've seen that the Galaxy S II has NFC support listed as only being available in certain regions -- has anyone found any more information on which regions will have the NFC hardware?
Also, does anyone know if the NFC hardware will have the ability to write NFC tags as well as read them, as the Nexus S does?
Thanks!
NFC is like Bluetooth
it's not really a region thing, rather than which countries or business are using it or not
Sorry, my point was that if you look on the Samsung site:
http://galaxys2.samsungmobile.com/html/feature.html
It says that 'availability of NFC may vary by regions and telecom operators'. Which means that the different versions (i.e. those containing Exynos vs. Tegra 2) are also likely to vary as to whether they have the NFC chip built in or not.

ahh.. that makes more sense
well, that will really depend who you buy the phone from.
just like the I9000 it came in many flavors, with camera, without camera, with flash, without flash, with... / without....
you get the point, so yes the NFC will be one of those optional features thing, and only the phone operators ordering the phones will get to decide if it comes with it or not.
so, just be careful when you buy, and make sure to check out the specs to include the NFC for the model you are buying
In the UK non carrier SIM Free versions should come with the NFC chip.

[Q] Does AT&T NFC Battery fit on I9100?

I am from India and the version of Galaxy S2 that was released here doesn't have NFC. So I was wondering if anybody tried using the battery from the AT&T version of Galaxy S2?
I saw in reviews that the battery in the AT&T version of S2 contains NFC. If that can be used in the International version of S2, then it would be great. As with ICS if we have NFC, then we can use the beam'ing feature
It does not work on the international version there is a review in this forum that confirms the battery alone will cause NFC to work.
>>> Your answer is absolutely antithetic! <<<
Probable answer is :
"Old" GS2 seems to miss the PN65 or PN55 chip
Plus, the NFC battery requires 4 pins to operate.
As I am one of the lucky few to have a NFC-enabled Galaxy S2, I can't tell, on the contrary, how much battery pins do "regular" GS2 have. If there are only 3 installed, chances are that the chip itself isn't installed, and that adding a NFC battery with a NFC "ANTENNA" (>> no chip in the battery!<<) will just...make your GSM reception worse? lol (doesn't know)
Your best bet is on SIM-CARD-BASED-NFC, but this will have to be with your MO
hey did anyone followup on this...?? if a nfc enabled battery like the one in a ATT i777 would work in a i9100...??? as mentioned above that you need 4 pins... the i9100 does have 4 pins already so... dont think thats a issue... more this chip you speak of... how can one find out if their phone has that or not...???
also i dont think the nfc sd cards have really become readily available yet...

[Q] Antenna Adapter for International Galaxy S II?

I have T-Mobile and I want to buy the International Samsung Galaxy S II. I understand that the International version does not support T-Mobile's 3g frequency band, and I would be limited to 2g speeds. However, I was wondering if it would be possible to buy an external antenna to be able to use 3g speeds. Or even better, is it possible to replace the internal antenna?
No and No.
DO NOT DO THIS UNLESS YOU WANT TO KILL YOUR GS2.
Sorry for the bold, but despite there being no rhyme or reason for it, I came across a thread which illustrated this fact from multiple people who tried external antennas, and here's what happened. The antenna worked, they thought all was good, then they disconnected the antenna, no signal. EVER again. I guess what happens is when you plug in an external antenna it pushes some contacts apart which breaks contact with the internal antenna permanently (supposedly a few that were very handy with a VERY tiny needle were able to fix it). Don't ask me why Samsung would design it this way while leaving the plugs exposed but that's what I read. Just wanted to make sure you didn't find out the hard way
In other words, the jack is there, and you can find adapters for those jack(s), but you really don't want to, unless you want to ONLY use external antennas for the rest of time (not most people).
EDIT: Whoops, forgot to add the most important part. Antenna has NOTHING to do with the fact that the radio doesn't support t-mo's frequencies. It's like having an antenna designed for HDTVs, and hoping to get hdtv on your standard def tv. Antennas don't "translate", they're all just fancy coathangers.

"antenna has nothing to do with GSM OR CDMA bands." its the radio chip that does the work.

Samsung Galaxy SIII LTE - FM Radio Question

Hi all,
I'm a proud owner of Samsung Galaxy S and I have been using it last 22 months. I could have recontacted my phone for free last month (end of 21 months) but I was eagerly waiting to get the Galazy S3 LTE version. I'm with Singtel Singapore.
Finally last Saturday they released and I found out that that version don't have FM Radio. It's a International Quad Core with 2GB Ram seems. I really miss FM Radio. I'm a radio fan (Yeah still )
So my question is FM Radio supports depends on Hardware? (I'm not talking about streaming. Real radio we have in S, S2 and can be use even without data). Is it like they removed some chip so it's no longer possible? Or just some software related things which can be fixable in the future?
Can anyone shed some lights on this issue for me? Thanks!
I searched Internet and I found a interesting pattern. It seems all Samsung LTE variants doesn't have FM Radio. In Singapore I checked Galaxy S2 LTE and Galaxy Note LTE and both don't have.
Anyone from US or other countries can confirm this? There are lot of other countries S3 LTE released long ago. Can you confirm you have or not? Also is there anyone have FM Radio with LTE version? I read somewhere Korean version have it but I don't know how true that news....
Also my initial question is it a Hardware thing?
There is an app called Spirit FM that has a thread here on XDA. Basically its a root app that supports FM radio on as many devices as possible and there is a listing there of what devices support it and what devices lack hardware.

Thanks for the reply. I'm aware of that app and even tried on my Galaxy S.
But my question is FM support depends on hardware (Like a fm receiver) or purely depends on software? Why LTE phones don't have FM radio?
Anyone from Kore confirms whether they have the FM radio in LTE version??
There is a radio which actually depends on mobile signal whether it is gsm or lte and there are also radio which depends on hardwares, like fm/am radio transceivers, however on some phones like those with tv apps and radio apps most likely on phone with dual sims and with adjustable antennas (like an aluminum rod which is connected to radio chips itself and adjustable, or you can see this at the back of the phone, they are software and hardware related. As for the phone which supports lte signal, maybe some of them dont have it but most of them have, i got one on my phone and without earplugs, it cannot be switch on but once earphones or external speakers have been connected it would start scanning signals, unlike those with built in hardwares they can however with the use of the adjustable antennas.
If however i am wrong on my info, i would be glad to be corrected.

Thanks for the reply. Can I know which phone model you have? Is that phone support LTE too?
Mine is GT-I9300 quad core or s3 international, and yup, it supports lte too, since the place where i am currently at is throwing 4g/lte network signal.

Hi Alex, Thats'w a bad news to hear Anyway there is no way and just have to live with it. Thanks for the information...
BTW which version phone you have? Korean?

So what's the deal with NFC? Is there any way to enable NFC on a GT-I9100?

I have read through a lot of threads. Obviously the I9100p comes with NFC capabilities and the I9100 doesn't. I am aware of that. But there are so many mentions of using NFC SD cards AND NFC SIM cards to enable it on the I9100. After doing some googling, though, it seems like NFC SD cards don't exist? And the research I did on NFC SIM cards didn't really tell me whether or not it would give you the ability to use my S2 at a register or not. It's just all very vague. Granted, all this info is coming from threads made 10 years ago, so that's probably where my confusion is coming from. That's why I'm making this thread.
Also, if there is a solution here, how will it work when I install Lineage OS 18.1?
