I've just changed my ROM to 4.2.2 courtesy of CyanogenMod, but I'm unable to install gapps
I have it downloaded and copied to the root of the file system of the Z and can confirm it's there with the file manager within the new firmware.
However, when I boot into recovery and choose to locate the file, all I see is what was there before I updated the firmware. So it's not updated, it looks just the same as before I updated without any of the new folders etc from CyanogenMod. It still shows that firmware infact, but not gapps that I added after.
I've tried clearing the cache, deleting user files, but still nothing.
Can anyone assist, as this is the last part of the puzzle.
Thanks.
Can anyone assist, as I don't even have the 'Play' store...

You said you put the gapps in the root directory....did you mean /sdcard, because that's where they should be put.

After a bit more digging and looking through the file system, I found and installed gapps. Sorry, was a bit basic of me not to see the the folder structure, especially the '0' folder, but we got there in the end.
Thanks for the help and pointers.

Thanks a million for this one, I have my r/w permissions back in Root Explorer!! As I'm still a noob at all this I haven't been able to get adb working so this is a huge help with the HC build.
Thanks again!!
P.S. This also completely removed my gmaps as one other comment mentioned. I haven't checked to see if I can find it on the market however. As far as I'm concerned it's worth the trade though!!

In my post above I hadn't really spent much time with the nook after installing your file and wanted to report that it also removed gmail and borked the market. I tried to clear the cache, etc. with no luck so I just wiped the nook and went back to a clean install of the hc emmc v4.
Would you be able to put a version of this up that just has the scripts for the root access and the adhoc wifi? It would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks again.
Is anyone able to get Google Maps to locate via Wifi using these files?

Edit: Yup, gmail still broken from v1 and maps just FCs as well. If you flashed the first file you will have to wipe and start over.

Confirmed. I tried to download a copy from market and it just FCs. Sorry about that. I was able to get gmail working by pushing a back up copy of the gmail.apk into my /system/app folder. I try to work on a fix tonight.
Not sure all the permissions are 100% correct, but if you put all the files in a single location, this is the script I've been using to install them on SDCard based installs of Honeycomb v4.
EDIT: Removed script, new one is on Page 3.
so i already had maps installed and it doesn't work now. honestly don't know if it worked before. LOL. i didn't install it myself, so i never fired it up. anyway, tested it out and i get the following FC:
(process com.google.android.apps.maps) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

any ideas?
My google search on the top right seems to be missing now.
edit: never mind i switched from landscape to portrait and it's there now but does not function
The wpa_supplicant file was causing an error for me. My wifi wouldn't turn on at all.
I deleted it and repushed it and it worked.

This worked great. The script ran with no errors or other problems. Gmail, talk and gallery all look good, but Maps is nowhere to be found, either on the Nook or in the market.
Any idea how I can pick it up? There's no maps APK that I can see anywhere on the device.
Like this, and appreciate the work, but out of my greedyness I shall ask for more; any chance that a modified build.prop or fix for not seeing apps (angrybirds, xplane, etc) could be included in an update?
Hello.
I have XXJL2 December soft and my Movinand Android got Market Bug (i can't download apps). When I installed my port, Android Recovery was getting this messages:
http://i51.tinypic.com/2wnzk87.jpg
http://i55.tinypic.com/swv091.jpg
Maybe this bugs causes my Android Market bug?
Please reply what You guys think.
Cheers.
It always looked/looks like this, this is not the cause for Android Market bug. You have too less internal space, that's the problem.
I can't even download 1 app (~1mb) from market, so i dont think my problem is internal memory. Any other ideas?
Try to reinstall it?
First remove android with the recovery mode, then install it again?
How to open recovery mode?
BTW it's my second Android on this phone and nothing changes (both movinand).

You don't need to remove it before re-install.
The remove code is also in the mkext2images.sh file.
(First it removes data & cache files if android already exists, and recreates new ones)
I'm totaly pissed. I've update Android Market from 2.1.2 to 2.2.7 and problem is the same...
Did you try to delete google services framwork's datas in the settings / app menu ?
I had the same problem before doing that.

Jesus. If you're a newbie don't even dare to edit this script.
Rulistaff meant that the script will erase previous version, and then install the new one.
BTW. This file can be easily edited even by notepad, but please, don't mess with it as long as you're not absolutelly sure what you're doing.
Excellently, I wanna repair my Android Market and get solution for this problem (many others people have this issue).

Qron link + JK1 and Android Market is working, thanks guys!
I have a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini.
With a custom rom MiniCM7.
I have that rom for quite some time and liked it a lot.
Although today my apps that I installed are all gone.
Also the market place.
I tried to reinstall the market place but it doesnt appears.
When I look at my app list I see the app "com.android.vending" what is the market place if I am right.
Although I can't unstall it or open it (it also doesnt display the market icon).
How can I unstall or reinstall the market.
Please help, my phone is nothing without apps
Thanks for advance!
When I reboot my phone in recovery.
I can go to "backup and restore".
Then I click on "Advance Restore".
Then I press on the date when I installed my custom rom.
I have the following options:
Restore boot
Restore system
Restore data
Restore cache
Restore sd-ext
Will one of those restores help to solve this problem?
Thanks in advance.

Is it possible that you switched SD card? Maybe all the apps were moved there automatically by Cyanogen?
Thanks for response both!

Well how will I be able to get root explorer without the market on my mobile?
I downloaded the market .apk file.
When I open it my phone is going to reboot (happens at the moment he tries to install it).
Also for the root explorer you need to pay, is there also some free one?
Or is it also able to do it from my PC (while my mobile is connected with USB)?

I haven't switched from SD card since I using the custom rom.
When I look at the application list and search for "com.android.vending" i see it with a dark gray android icon (not the market icon).
Within that icon also at the bottom right a smaller icon with standing "SD" on.
The application takes 204kB.
With a Cache of 4.99Mb that I cant clear.
I already tried to put my SD card out and in again.
Although my SD card seems to work fine, I can find all my pictures, music, etc on it.
EDIT:
I seem to still have version: MiniCM7-2.1.1
While there is already a version: MiniCM7-2.1.4
Would it solve the problem if I update the version by using the recovery?
So also again a "wipe data/factory reset".
Then "apply update from sdcard".
And after that Flash gapps.
Will this maybe solve the poblem?
Alright I solved it.
I updated the kernel from nAa-3 to nAa-6.
I also updated the ROM from CM7-2.1.1 to CM7-2.1.4 into recovery (so also "wipe data/factory reset").
And then it all was solved.
I want to thank you two guys for your time, and yes I pressed the thanks button at both of u
Greetings,

I had exactly the same problem, apparently CM moved all my apps to SD with me asking. It does so automatically.. See my post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1361073
I just can find anything that will work for me, tried everything, but it appears that GingerDX 12 is the most stable and fastest for me.
With all due respect to the developers, sometimes it seems that with every new release about the same amount of bugs are introduced as fixed..
Glad you got eyerything running...

I'd be grateful if people on 10.4.2.17 or 10.4.2.18 could check and let me know if the full version numbers on their stock Browsers include the correct build number.
I am currently on 10.4.2.17 though my Browser version says 10.4.2.15 and I believe this may be responsible for my failures to update to 10.4.2.18. Just wan't to check that the build number went up for everyone's Browser with the .17 upgrade.
Many thanks.

Thanks. Thought so since all my other systems apps also say .17.
I do remember messing about with the browser after updating to .17 trying to get the damn sync with Google to work so what I think I've done is to restore the wrong version. Looks like this has been a big enough change to the system partition to stop the new update working :crying:.
So my next question is how and where do I get hold of the browser.apk from 10.4.2.17?

The odex file gets created from the apk. If you have a browser odex file then delete it and when you replace with the new browser.apk and restart it should create it.

OK, thanks. The new browser appears to be working just fine. I doubt it's the odex file since I have rebooted a few times. I will delete it though and see what happens.
Grrrr. No good - the droid's still going belly up after a minute or 2. But I am now getting a different error message. Instead of the Unknown Error I now get "The application is not compatible with the device ROM".
I've been right through /system and can't see anything else that would be out of place.
Is there anywhere in particular the update checks? I've tried factory reset and downloaded other copies of the update zip in case I got a bad one. Can you think of anything else I might try?

The only thing I can think of is if there is a separate Google Bookmarks Sync apk that came with the .17 ROM? I was using an older version of this. If so can you pull me one and I'll try that.
Also I had been using browser2RAM before the update but I uninstalled it properly before doing the OTA update. It hadn't stopped me updating before either.

Discovered how to extract the system apps from the blob file so found the syc apk (called ChromeBookmarksSyncAdapter) and got that working. While I was there I noticed that odex files were included in the ROM so installed the browser from there along with its odex but still the update failed :crying:.
I think now all I can do is go through the system.img from the .17 update and see if I can see anything different from what I have currently on the device.

When you say root, do you mean the actual root (/) location or do you mean the default 'home' (containing Music, Video, Download, etc.) location? I'm pretty sure you only need to put it in the 'home' location.

Something seems off with .100 I tried updating using sideload before and it refused, telling me my current version .88 is apparently newer and downgrades are not allowed.
When i did it i just downloaded the file to the default folder. Presumably "downloads". So that shouldnt be an issue.
According to asus own guide to manually update the phone you also need to remove all the Google accounts saved to the device under: Settings -> passwords and accounts (something along those lines).
I did this and after a reboot the phone asked if i wanted to update.
