I know this is not a new issue by any means and I've tried to search for a definitive answer.
Using what I thought were certain ROMs the phone cannot find certain mp3 files on the external SD.
This has seemed to be cured by flashing a different ROM so so far so good.
I've been running revolt 4.4 and transferred a new album via PC USB to the phone yesterday. Poweramp picked up immediately as usual but Google play music and amazon mp3 didn't. So triggered media scanner manually to no avail. I tried clearing the media storage cache and data as I've often read but on any ROM this has never rebuilt for me...ever.
I ran a nandroid of xtreme v8 which has been perfect. Guess what ? New album in its folder in Music on the external SD card but the phone will not pick up. Any clues anyone . please ?

I'm not sure if anyone else is having this issue, but I can’t seem to find any posts about it anywhere.
I can easily access my SD card through a file manager and play music files through that. However, whenever I try to open any of my songs (stored on my external SD) with Google music it simply cycles through each song in the list displaying the "cannot play the requested track" error over the album art in yellow.
This only occurs when the music in question is stored on the external SD card. Any music I try to play from the internal storage will play, and any music I attempt to stream will play. (Music that I have both streaming copies of and copies of on my external SD do not work).
I read somewhere that ICS handles file systems differently, but as I remember Google music worked when I first installed the rom. I have tried every combination of uninstalling and clearing the data in Google music, both with and without the SD card inserted. Any thoughts or recommendations?
(Afterthought: I also get the notification that "Music has stopped working" every time I reboot the phone)
(Afterthought II: I have been using these forums for nearly two years and have yet to be disappointed, thanks guys)
I had the same problem. Solved by uninstalling power amp - somehow it must have been conflicting. So try and uninstall any third party music players. Hopefully someone else has a better solution?
Clear your music cache/data again and change the file path. If your music is on external, it is now called emmc. I use PowerAmp and you can configure what files you want it to scan.
I don't have any other third party music players installed. And Google music does not give the option to scan certain paths :/
My external sd is 32 gigs, but that's not all of my music, so I like the option to stream.

You are right, Google music doesn't provide an option to scan certain folders but in my case, clearing cache and data worked and I know this sounds crazy but I removed my SD card and re-inserted and that seemed to work.
Also, what I also did was install a third party app that does allow you to scan a particular folder and once it worked on that app, GM seemed to also work
You have probably tried these options but perhaps this will help
Will give that a try today
easy fix
settings, apps, music storage, clear cache / data.
been covered many times. someone ought to put it in the ics passion op.
Hi,
i have a problem with my phone. One day, after disconnecting the phone from my pc all the music from the music player has gone missing. I cant even set music stored on the SD card as ringtones. But i still can browse my sdcard and access data from it in Total Commander without any problems.
The issue happened on CM7.2, but since than i have reinstalled my phone with CM9 with a full wipe, however the problem still persists. I have also tried to rescan the media library n Dev Tools several times, removing and reinserting teh card, etc. but nothing seems to help.
Any idea what could be wrong?
Had a similar problem on CM10+ Walkman player. Couldn't do anything about it. Used to play individual songs via Root Explorer on Walkman player. But then I added some songs to my sdcard and voila problem solved!

Hey guys
My S3, running Jellybam 6.3.0, works fine, but there is a little issue that I'm experiencing
and it's become pretty irksome.
I had 8gb of music on an iPod that I transferred to my PC, then to and SD card, which I now use for my GS3.
All of my past music appears in music players and play fine, but any new music that I download from the phone doesn't show up.
I thought maybe the music players weren't scanning for mp3 files in the download folder, so I decided to move them from the downloads folder
to my Music folder with all my other files.
Here's the problem:
The file manager doesn't seem to "see" for find any of the old music, despite all of the media players finding it no problem.
Also, any new music I download can be searched for an played in a music player, but it is never added to the library.
I decided to mount my phone to my PC do double check, and all of my music is there in the Music folder, which is on the root of my sd card.
Has anyone else had this issue

Did you try to wipe data and install everything again??
Might be a DRM issue?
What's up XDA,
I'm running the AoCP ROM on my Note and it's been having some trouble with playing music. I had all my music on a 32g sd card that came from my old phone. I never had the phone with the stock rom so I have no idea if this is just ROM related. The stock music app kinda sucked at playing the music, it kept crashing. Uninstalled that, downloaded google music, and it didn't crash as much but I would skip to the next song and it just wouldn't play. Uninstalled google music, downloaded winamp, and got the same results as with google music. So I removed the SD card to format it and put the music on again. I think that maybe the two phones store and find the music differently. But I formatted the SD and then even removed it. But, when I went to go look google music, all the songs we're "still there." They weren't really there, it wouldn't play any of them... The phone somehow stored all the album artwork, artists, song names, all that stuff. And yes I tried clearing the app data and cache and even uninstalled and reinstalled. All the music apps still show that the songs, or at least what's left of them, still exist on the device. I've searched through a ton of folders to try and find where that data might have been stored so I could delete but my searches have been unsuccessful. I have everything backed up on my computer, but I'm sure if I clear the phone data and then just restore from what's on the computer, the problem will still be hidden somewhere in the files on my computer. Any help with this guys?? or has anyone else had a similar problem?? I've tried lurking through the AoCP rom thread but haven't found anything like this... Doesn't help that the search is down right now.
Thanks in advance,
Ben
You have to wipe media stotage under all apps.

Looked around the thread for my issue and seen some things that come close, but not exact.....I cannot play music on my google play music app. I get the "cannot play track requested" error message when I try to play music. All the same songs worked fine before I loaded this ROM, and I love the Rom but this issue may end that love quickly. Im a runner, and require music. I have tried turning off various modules that would affect music or media, or storage in order to try and zero in why precisely google could play one album and not the other. (Currently only one "As I Lay Dying" album will play and no other music will play). I have tried everything from simply rebooting, to uninstalling/reinstalling the app, clearing the cache, clearing the data, etc....I have all my music stored on my ext SD card, and it plays fine through the stock rom(I have safestrap for galaxy s4 me7). but as soon as i switch to my ROM Slot 1(GPE) I can't get the music to play. I have tried moving one song from the ext SD card to the internal storage, and I get the same result. I doubt its due to the file type of the songs(wma, mp3) as both types play on google play music on my stock rom slot. I'm at a loss currently, and dont want to have to keep rebooting to switch to the stock rom slot just to listen to music. have I missed this issue earlier in the thread? I looked for a while, but there are 2 hundred and some odd pages, and search results came up with stuff that were about music, but were of a different nature. Have I missed something obvious that a newbie would miss? obviously by my profile, im a user and not a dev. but I would appreciate any help from anyone who may have run into this issue or could help resolve this problem, love the rom, best one by far, would be a shame to dump it for the music problem. Thanks again, Semper F***** Fi
Have you tried using a different music player to see if it's just that particular player? I'm not one to push people to buy apps, but if you're a music lover and you're not using Power Amp you're really missing out... might be worth a shot to try that to see if it'll play your music.
