Hi; I flashed CM10.1 04.06 ROM, and I found OTG doesn't work on it.
I have a OTG cable, a flash disk with FAT32 and I looked for the files in it with file explorer app.
Is there something I missed?

Hi,
I have no problem using OTG for both wireless mouse and a flash drive with FAT32.
It seems, that something might be changed in a futur release: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43368051&postcount=394
Greets
I just installed "OTG Helper" but I didn't see any help at first.
So I opened file explorer I found in "/storage" there is a new folder named "drive1".
It is my flash disk. What happened? Because of the helper??

I have a USB OTG cable but it doesn't work .
I have rooted 2.3.5 rooted phone.
Do I need to enable any settings on the phone to activate it?

Define "doesn't work". What're you trying to plug into it?
Most things you plug into it will need more power, so you'll need to run them off a hub unless it's a very low-powered device like a usb memory stick.
I think the thread author was pretty clear. "Doesn't work" means that it is not working. How hard is that to understand?
Look here:

It would be great to have it back...
ROM developers, can you do it?
Thanks

I am having the same problem.
Got my cable today and can´t get it to work.
Nothing shows when i connect pen drives, tried 3.
I am using 2.3.5 XWKJ1, ROOTED
THANKS.
I read from somewhere that 2.3.5 took away OTG support. You have to use a ROM that supports it. Also, if you want to mount a NTFS partition, you need the fuse.ko specifically compiled for your kernel version. For instance, Siyahkernel comes with its own fuse.ko. The regular fuse.ko you find in this forum would work for he CF-root kernel while none is compiled for the TWD kernel yet. FAT32 should mount automatically.
It works for me. Except NTFS files won't show up in gallery automatically. I have to use es file explorer to open.

Thanks for helping.
Looking around can´t find a rom that says OTG working or 2.3.5 does not support usb OTG.
I´ll try to install 2.3.3 to see if works or the cable i have got might be faulty.
As far as I know every custom rom except the stock rom will support OTG, at least for FAT32-formated sticks. USB sticks work for me in both NTFS and FAT32. I attempted to mount a solid state drive but failed. The SSD light is lit only for half a second. I guess the phone doesn't have enough juice to power a SSD. I haven't tried putting it in an enclosure that supports external power though.

Buy a SATA to USB converter, and connect the USB one to your phone.
Then you connect the power connection of your SSD to your PC, start up your PC and it must work

I tried that. It seems sata to USB converters are not supported by galaxy either.
I have a stock 2.3.4 SGII, rooted.
Sata2USB works, as long as the phone doesn`t have to power the device. If I use one of those USB cables that has 2 connectors on one end (1 is for additional power) and let the PC power the USB device, the phone works perfectly with external HDDs.
I haven`t tested NTFS yet, but it works perfectly withg FAT32, ext 2/3/4, either on usb drives or external HDDs.
The only problem is that non-FAT32 partitions must be manually mounted.
Hi,
I recently bought a Archos Gen9 ICS.
Using the host cable I can copy from internal memory to USB (fat32) without a problem. This also works when connecting the USB using the 3G input.
However when I connect an external HDD (ntfs) using the 3G input it's recognized, but I can't copy files to it. In the default file manager I don't even have the "paste" button when I select the drive. Astro said something about the drive being read-only.
(btw...copying files to the usb-stick didn't even work with astro...it always complained about not being able to create a new directory. Anyway if the default file manager works, that's fine by me)
What could be the problem here? Is it file system related or...?
Hope someone knows the answer.
Thanks in advance!
neva
Write support on ntfs file system isnt given.
You could reformat your hard drive as fat 32 but i wouldnt do so.
You would lose support for big files over 4 gb, you would lose all your data, etc.
it is kernel related, perhaps it might be possible to trick your archos if you feed it with ntfs-3g, but i dont know if it is possible. It would be tricky, you would have to find arm binery therefore. There is a thread here on xda in same subsection gen9 android developement.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1463679&highlight=ntfs-3g
You could try that and report if you successed.
Greatings.
Thx for your quick reply.
I didn't know that ntfs write wasn't possible at the moment...
I'll probably convert my hdd back to fat32, or buy a "bigger" usb stick
Hello, I am having a problem getting my galaxy tab 10.1 to recognize a usb flash drive I have connected via an adapter. I know it works because it detected a wireless mouse I connected to it, and it shows up when I use dmesg or lsusb in the terminal. The thing is that none of the file explorers I've used (Es, Astro) are able to detect the files I have on it. The usb drive is formatted to fat32; would it be more likely to detect it if I formatted it to ext3 or ext4?
Maybe you need to use this?

Thanks so much for showing me that! I went through at lest five other apps that didn't work before trying this. :victory:
Hi!
I just got a USB stick with both a microUSB and type A connector that work flawless with my Nexus 9.
But I find it unpleasant to save files unencrypted on it from my Nexus 9, imagine that I drop it somewhere or whatever.
I've tried some apps that I don't remember the name of that should encrypt the storage or separate files but these seems only be able to encrypt files in the Nexus 9 internal memory.
It don't have to be compatible with a computer(Linux), but it would be nice if I also was able to decrypt the stored files on another Android device even though it's not a showstopper if that doesn't work.
Note that my devices isn't rooted due to security reasons, so if you know any solution for a non rooted device I will be very greatful.
Thanks for your time!
Was curious about this from your post!
11. Create an encrypted files with password protection
If you have sensitive data in your android, that you don’t want other to see, For instance a private video or images. then the best approach is to encrypt it, with password protecting. right ?
Well look no further, because using ES file manager you can encrypt any files, with password protection. And once you that the content will automatically be hidden from your gallery as well.

Edit note: Needs a rooted Nexus 9 and the Stickmount App.
Can encrypt files on usb stick, they need to be encrypted and then decrypted to view.
Don't forget to encrypted them again after viewing or editing.
Don't know about viewing them on another PC, but i guess if you have ES File Manager on another android device it should be able to decrypt them as well.

Hi,
I'm sorry to tell you that I'm only able to encrypt files with ES File Explorer on the "internal SD-card". I'm not able to do that on the USB stick.

It worked for me on a rooted device. Is your device rooted?
Also use the app stickmount to mount the usb stick!
Edit: Tested again and If you use ES File Explorer to mount the stick, you can not encrypt/decrypt files on OTG.
The stickmount app mounts external usb to an internal path
Also installed ES File Explorer on my not rooted xperia z1, and was also able to encrypt a file. + Decrypt it again on the Nexus 9.

Hi,
No my device is intentionally not rooted due to security reasons. Will update OP that this request is for non rooted devices.
Has there been a solution on this topic?

Yes probably, just plug your phone to some flash memory using otg cable and then a new drive should appear with the files inside the flash, and sea if it works.
