Native tether on CM 10.1 - HTC Rezound

For some reason my laptop (Win 7 64-bit) will not connect to my Rezound. It shows the network but keeps saying network key mismatch. If I try it as an open network, it connects (without internet) for a few seconds and then disconnects. However, on another laptop (Win 8 64-bit), it works without any problem, secured or open. So I assume the problem is something in the laptop and not the phone, but I can connect to any other WiFi I've tried with my laptop. At this point I'm puzzled and welcome any recommendations.
I have rebooted both laptop and phone and double/triple checked that the passcode was correct.

Have you tried using a 3rd party app like http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/

That's weird, but I'll take it. I downloaded and setup wifi tether and it worked. I then tried with the native tether and it worked. I've now uninstalled the wifi tether app and the native tether continues to work. Thanks for the suggestion.

If you're only tethering the one machine, built in USB tethering works well also.

If you run into issues again on a 4.2.2 based ROM WiFi tethering, I found using WPA instead of WPA2 works every time. Just be sure to change pass code frequently as WPA is easier to crack than WPA2

[Q] WiFi connectivity help...

Bought my gtablet a few weeks back when it was on woot and have loved it so far. Did the Clockwork/TNT Lite setup, and have added a few games and apps...
I'm not sure if it is an app I installed or something else, but right now it will connect to WiFi as always, but the internet doesn't work. Other devices using the same access points connect and work perfectly, just my gtablet is failing. It goes through what appears to be a normal connect and gets an IP without any failure and shows connected, but none of the news, marketplace, or web browser apps are able to connect to the internet.
Any advice to trouble shoot network connectivity? I had recently installed LauncherPro and was working on installing Titanium Backup Pro, (which I either didn't actually download and was just emailed a key, or it never installed because I can't find it anywhere...)
Thanks!
Chris
I'm having the same problem with the ad-hoc wifi connection to WMwifirouter. The gtab shows it is connected with an IP, but no internet traffic will pass. That same ad-hoc wifi connection works with other winXP laptops.
However, wifi connections to my two other wifi router works fine.
I'm on stock 3389 with tnt enhancement pack.
Adhoc problem sounds gateway related.... the former issue... id start with a wipe.

[Q] Adhoc on YP-G70 using a custom ROM with 2.3.6

I have a YP-G70 (galaxy player 5.0), international version. It came with gingerbread 2.3.5, and it was unable to find the adhoc network I've set up in my laptop.
Then I flashed it with rumirand's custom kernel r13 and Meticulus's Foreigner ROM R5.1 (GB 2.3.6), and the problem was still there.
Then I replaced the wpa_supplicant file with the one mentioned in these posts:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22268045&postcount=60
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1438334
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377321
(the file that is mentioned is always the same)
Now it detects the adhoc network, but when I connect to it, the wifi status starts looping: connecting -> disconnected -> scanning -> connecting -> disconnected -> ...
Did I miss anything?
Has anyone managed to get adhoc to work on YP-G70 using one of the custom ROMs based on 2.3.6?
Or do I really need to go back to 2.3.5 and use the wpa_supplicant file mentioned above?
Thank you
I have played with some of these wpa_supplicant files recently. The result seems to be hit and miss.
So far I tried connecting to 2 different usb wifi dongo using ad hoc mode. The only successful one is the ad hoc connection to a tp-link wifi dongo using wep mode. This dongo doesn't support wpa.
The other one that failed is a linksys dual band dongo, I can't get a connection with either wep or wpa. The observation is very similar to yours.
Need to try a few other device to see what's wrong or whether it is due to incompatibilities.
By the way, I also tried all the possible security options (open, wep, wpa). Same behavior for all of them, except that the "connecting" step took much longer when using wpa.
Interesting note on incompatibilities. My laptop's wi-fi card is an Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG.
I found out that it ends up connecting successfully if I just leave it looping for a while... sometimes it will succeed on the first few attempts, sometimes it takes several minutes.
So far, it only worked in open or WEP. Never got it to work in WPA.
DHCP
Have you tried to use a fixed ip instead of dhcp ?
Yes, that's how I've always had it set up. I don't think there is a way to use dhcp in ad hoc.
Today, I've switched to the Chip v1.5 custom firmware and I just can't get ad-hoc to work at all. No ad-hoc networks are displayed in the wifi settings.
I've tried replacing the wpa_supplicant file with different versions of that file, but it just rendered the wifi completely unfunctional: I turn it on, it goes "scanning...", then it turns itself off automatically after a few seconds. I had to reinstall the firmware in order to get the wifi to work again.
I would really appreciate some help, as I completely rely on an ad-hoc connection to obtain internet access on my SGP when I'm at home. I don't feel like going back to the firmware I was using before, having seen how great this one is.
So you have used static ip? And set it up correctly? Because the wifi connect and disconnect problem is frequent with belkin routers, and is fixed by using static ip usually.
Sent from my YP-G1 using xda app-developers app
Yeah, the IP settings are correct, and I'm using a static IP. I eventually got used to the looping that I mentioned in a post above, and I've lived with that for the past 8 months.
However, as I said in my previous post, I've installed the Chip v1.5 firmware, and now my problem is somewhat different.

if you had this happening, it meant the wpa_supplicant you'd tried wasn't compatible with your device. Always backup wpa_supplicant before replacing in in case the new one doesn't work.
Try this wpa_supplicant, it works with my 5.0.
I had the same problem with Ad-hoc networks using windows7 (ie obtaining ip address loop) - I gave up in the end, but found this : Windows 7 as a WAP. It does the same thing, only it's not an ad-hoc network - you can also share wifi internet through the same wifi adapter...it works great for me!

I did backup. But, even after putting the original wpa_supplicant back in, wi-fi was still broken. So, the only way for me to fix it was to reinstall the firmware.

Thanks. I've been playing with that wpa_supplicant for a while now. However, it did not solve the problem.
It detects the ad-hoc network that I set up on my laptop, but I'm having a hard time trying to connect to it. So far, I've only been able to connect twice. What I need to do in order to connect successfully is to keep enabling and disabling wi-fi. Each time I enable it, it will automatically attempt to connect to the ad-hoc network (because it remembers the info). Most of the time, it will say "Connected", but it actually isn't connected. It only succeeds like once every 50 attempts. And even if it succeeds, it will disconnect automatically after like 10 seconds. At least it gave me enough time to test the internet connectivity, which worked fine during those few seconds. Changing the encryption type from WEP to WPA only made things worse.

That seems like a great idea. However, my laptop's wireless adapter (Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG) does not support that functionality. An adapter with Windows 7 certified drivers is required. I also tried to use Connectify, but it also does not support this adapter.

that's very strange. This wpa_supplicant works on my GP 5.0 very well. It detects my WEP ad-hoc network and connects to it just fine and keeps connection until i disconnect. Sometimes it won't connect right away, in which case i just turn wi-fi off and then on again and then it finds the connection, connects and then everything's fine.

Agghh that's a shame.... you could try buying a wifi dongle.. they're not all that expensive...
After playing a bit with the network adapter settings on the laptop, I am now able to connect successfully to the ad-hoc network as soon as I enable wi-fi. What I did was changing the property "Ad Hoc Channel 802.11b/g" to 1 (it was 11 before). Setting this property to anything other than 1 makes it not be able to connect.
There is still the issue of automatically disconnecting after a while (which can vary from seconds to minutes), but it doesn't happen very often, and I'm usually able to stay connected for a long time. Playing with the network adapter properties didn't seem to help in this regard. Anyway, I guess that the problem is solved.
It should be noted that I've never had to change the network adapter settings for any anything else before. I've always been able to connect to other computers via an ad-hoc network. I also used to be able to connect with my SGP 5.0 when I had a different ROM installed. The looping problem that I had before (see my early posts in this thread) could probably be solved also by changing that property in the adapter.

How did you get to that property? I can't find anything similar on mine...
Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center -> Change adapter settings -> Right-click on the wireless adapter -> Properties -> Configure... -> Advanced.
The properties for the network adapter are listed there, and you should be able to change them.

Hmmm yes, I looked there but unfortunately there is no option to change or configure the channel at all!
I suppose it's driver dependent.

[SOLVED] Galaxy Ace connected to Wi-Fi but no internet.

Well, the title says pretty much all .. I earlier didn't have this problem.. Then since last night, I came back home and connected my Galaxy Ace to my home wifi, but this time, it wasn't transferring any data.. It would be connected, full signal, but no internet connection.. My browser, gmail, YouTube, PlayStore, nothing would load.. It'd keep saying Connection Error. Retry.
My wifi works properly on the computer and other devices, and my phone used to work perfectly too! Why's it suddenly giving this problem?!
Any solutions!?
SOLVED!
Okay so I figured it out on my own!!
I went to Wifi Settings>> Advanced>> and "Use Static IP"
I then provided my phone with an IP address, gave the DNS servers as mentioned by my Router, and gateway, is ofcourse, the IP adress of the router. NETMASK is Subnet mask ..
Once I filled in them correctly, and as per my router settings, my mobile is now transferring data and I can now access the internet!
Just thought I'd post a reply incase anyone else was facing this problem
No data through laptop hotspot.
I have a similar problem, but with using my laptop as an access point. My Samsung Galaxy Ace had no problem connecting to either my or my wife's laptop access points initially till about a week ago. I use an HP while my wife uses a DELL. We both run Windows 7. But, here's when things started to get strange.
1. The Ace even though connected through my laptop's AP Wi-fi cannot send or receive data after the first few seconds.
2. My wife's Dell XCD35 (ZTE Blade) has no problems.
3. The Ace has no problem connecting to an Android AP or my wife's laptop AP.
I reflash and unrooted my phone and basically brought it back to factory settings but no luck.
Tried using other services for using my laptop as an accesspoint - mhotspot, virtual router and connectify - still no luck.
tried static ip - no luck.
reinstalled the MS Virtual Wi-fi Miniport Adaptop driver - no luck.
Somehow, there is a security setting on the laptop that's preventing my phone from connecting to the internet. I think I maybe connected to the network, but access to the internet is restricted.
There are no other features like MAC address binding or anything like for laptop APs.
It's getting really frustrating now.
Any help would be appreciated.

Set your Internet to "Allow other computers to share this Internet connection". Other ideas would be to check/disable your firewall
Wifi connected but not working
My Galaxy ace plus connects fine to wifi network but cannot browse internet or play store. I am using a free public wifi so i dont know about the static ip address. And this problem was from the starting whn i just bought it. So is there any other solution for this problem or not?
I tried everything... I restarted the modem- no luck. I filled in the blank from the advance wifi setting- no luck

[Q] Cannot use work VPN when tethered to S4

I noticed recently that I cannot connect to any VPNs from any device connected to my S4 through wireless tether. This has probably been a problem, I just have not needed to use it. I am not using any third party software for tethering, but I am using HyperDrive ROM.
I CAN connect to my home PPTP VPN from my phone, but connecting to the same VPN through a computer or tablet tethered to that phone fails. I also tried connecting two different laptops to my work VPN (SonicWall SSLVPN) and in both cases it says it cant reach the host. I did verify the host was available and I can even ping it and even connected to the VPN through my home wireless.
Is there a VPN pass through option I am missing somewhere?

I have the same but it just started happening on 8/9. I've been using my work VPN for over a month and now its just either disconnects after a few seconds or can't connect.
