[Q] Wipe Data - how do y'all handle the loss of info?? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

first off, i'm a flashing/rooting noob. my Gnote is my business line for my company...very important stuff on it, from S-memo's, to txt's to call history, to Apps etc...
how do y'all handle this loss of info? or is there a way to save ALL OF IT it (including Apps) off of the ICS phone, then put it back on a CM10 or Blackstar phone?
Apps would take a long time to reinstall all over again. for instance i'd have to find the Visual Voicemail apk again, can't even recall how i installed it.
or am i mistaken, and a wipe before a flash doesn't remove all of those things???
tx!

responded with the below to your other thread:
Before you wipe make sure to do a complete back up, download sms backup or super backup to back up contacts, texts etc... Download app2zip or Titanium to back up your apps.
Here's the process I go through each time. Each time you will lose everything but is safer and have a better chance of not failing:
In TWRP
Factory reset
Wipe System
Wipe cache and dalvik cache
Install your rom and the gapps
Wipe cache and dalvik again
reboot and let the phone sit for about 10mins, then reboot again and all should be good.
Once phone is up and running, if you did app2zip to back up your apps, you have to go back into recovery and flash that zip and install the backups from sms backup or super backup for your contacts, texts etc....
Hope that helped some.

great info, tx!
i have Tit Backup Pro, i forgot...idk anything about it, never used it. just looked at it and i am now backing up all Apps

just a possible heads up. it has been rumored if using TiBu for back ups. in using it to restore, be careful, some have had issues restoring DATA.
restoring the APP's, no problem.
people have said not to restore data on those apps as it causes problems.
I am not sure as it may only be an issue if going to or from 4.1 or 4.2.................meaning from 4.1 ROM to 4.1 ROM may be ok. and 4.2 to 4.2.
but if your swapping, you may want to be careful. but if you business is that important??? just a heads up.
maybe now that I have asked, maybe someone with more knowledge on it will chime in
good luck

Now that you mention it, I do recall hearing that, not to restore data on restore app. I will cause issues from my understanding. Thanks for pointing that out.

One more thing. S-Memo only works with TW based Roms, so if you are on CM based roms, you won't be able to get your memos.

App2zip didn't think about that... Will do next flash... Thnx man.... (I'm a Tmobile note holder lol but like to be nosey in the rogers i717 forums ha)

great info, tx for the assistance emo!! i see on some other threads that Padawan is your fav. i am going to try that one i think.
question for ya: i just backed up my S memo's on Kies and noticed that i currently have Android Version 4.0.4, i never updated to 4.1.2.
do i need 4.1.2 for Padawan or Blackstar, or does my Android Version not matter?
tx!
BTW, this is the one i am looking at: |ROM|| Padawan JB || 4.1.2 || 5|07

I used padawan 9 n it's really stable n fast... Once u flash padawan n gapps for 4.1.2 u will be on 4.1.2 cus it automatically updates u... Just make sure u follow the instructions how it's said and u should be fine but fist do a backup of ur current rom if ure on twrp the flash this way if u have problems with padawan u can always go back to ur old back up...

your contacts and S Memo shoud be fine between gmail account and Kies. all other back ups you make should cover apps and other data. the rest of you transition should be seamless. others have done it with no problem. I play it safer than most. I returned to stock unrooted ICS. got the official upgrade through Samsung then rooted again. then again I play it safer than most. had all my files lined up, ran through procedures in my head and went through it slowly.

ummm, I never flashed a GAPPS for Padawan JB. not in OP and don't need them. maybe it was needed for ICS Padawan? (don't know never ran it)
follow OP to the letter
when you come across lag issues and you probably will. disable ripple effect and go to p.355 and read until p. 378 of the Padawan thread. there you will find the cure and soon be running at a full orgasmic pace.

i did a Titanium backup of apps and then again of apps&data together. from what i have read, i might not wanna update with the app data.?.
then i just backed up txt's, S memo & call history with Kies. backed up contacts to the SD card. made a nandroid backup last night (or was it a twrp backup, i can't recall.)
going to start going over the instructions from OP now, tx so much emo!!

ok so here are the OP's instructions and my comments in red:
-Download ROM i just did
-Backup your apps with preferred method(app2zip is great) just did that again
-Nandroid did that yesterday
-Wipe data ( factory data reset) will do that
-Wipe system (Format system (in mounts/storage) if on CWM) no CWM here, Twrp only
-Flash ROM i need to do some research and figure out the exact steps to do this
-TWRP will try to fix SU. DO NOT FIX i will def follow this step closely and not fix SU
-Boot system and DO NOT TOUCH FOR 10 MIN got it
-After the 10 min, reboot phone and enjoy the Force got it
- Flash Add Ons/ Theme AFTER 10 min Waiting Period not sure what Flash AddOns / Theme means. is this something outside of Padawan?
-DO NOT RESTORE DATA!!!not sure what this means either, is this like the Apps with Data??

flashing ROM no biggie.....................install on twrp and it will walk you through
the add ons.............yes they are out of Padawan. basically mods and tweaks. whether its music players, themes, speed increases, and so on.
no essentials for this ROM
everything else, looks like you got it handled

Ure right I had padawan on Ics maybe that's why I had to flash gapps I'm on 4.1.2 avatar I flashed gapps just to be safe n so far everything is running smooth... A few reboots but lately none... Wish I had atnt

Which ROM to pick up? Too spoilt for choice!

I initially rooted and flashed my S2 using Litening, but moved over to VillianROM once it started looking like Litening was not going to get any further updates.
However, I kept getting odd force close issues using VillianROM, and Titanium Backup refused to work properly due to the ROM missing Busybox support.
I'm now using the Batista70 ROM, but 3G reception and battery usage have gotten worse compared to the other two ROMs. Even with full 3G reception available, the phone takes a ridiculous long time to load online content. That did not happen with Litening or VillainROM.
What other proven and popular ROMs would you all recommend I try?

Your problems sound user created, when installing any rom with different bases, always wipe everything and when restoring backups from Titanium, never restore system data, only apps and their data, Villain Rom is one of the most stable custom roms out here.

+1 to this. Try some other kernels before switching ROMs.
I'm on Batista and it's quite solid.
try miui 1.10.28.
i was in the exact same situation that you are in.
i was on stock kg5 and when i wanted to try custom roms i waited for the first 2.3.5 custom rom. and villain rom came out first so i flashed it. but i found out that deodexed stock roms are not as smooth or as bug free as odexed ones (titanium backup didnt always work).
so i went back to stock odexed ki8 then moved to stock odexed ki4 with jkays mod.
all was good but i felt that there still are better roms out there. so i did a nandroid backup (you do itin cwm, and what it does is take a snapshot of your phones software so that when u restore it you go back to exactly how your phone was at the time u did it) then i tried cyanogennmod 7 and it was FAST! but i wanted to also try miui because i heard it was more user friendly but gives the same speed improvments that cm7 has. and i personally recommended that u try both cm7 and miui after doing a nandroid backup and a full titanium backup.
ps: sorry for the long post but i think you would find it useful.
pps; when u flash miui or cm7, dont restore app data in titanium backup or contacts or calendar data or any of that only restore non-system apps then restore the app data of each app individualy (only if you need the data)
ppps; to move your appointments and contacts sync them whith your google account. and then restore them after you flash
Before installing CM7 or MIUI install a ROM with old bootloader, KH3 for instance, or you will have problems...
Checkrom version 1 is awesome super smooth and great battery life you can choose what you want through the kitchen. Version 2 is a bit buggy but you won't have problems with the v1

Yeah, try the different kernel first.
Then, if you want another ROM to try, try CriskeloROM, click it in my sig, its an amazing ROM with a lot of customizations

I have charged it abit like overall 5minutes but took it off straight away. But the result is great for long day users. I mean 15 hour and 30 minutes and I still have 75% left, you can see I left Wifi connected all day (while I was sleeping or I would have more battery). Also you can see I have abit of screen on time like 30 - 1 hour max along with 'Awake', that is music streaming along with youtube streaming (screen off but listening to youtube music) which is about 4 - 5 or 5 - 6 hour max.
Simple & Clean v1.2 battery is going to be more amazing for all heavy, average to light users!

In this case, did you try installing Busybox from the market or try downloading busybox from within the Titanium Backup app, if you continue flashing ROMS willy nilly without first having a better grasp of what you are doing, you would either get lucky or continue having ROM issues, but I assure you, the problems thus far doesn't seem to be the ROMS.
And where did the information that deodexed ROMS are not as stable come from, I would like to read this info myself as I have used VR for months without any issue and many others can testify about using other deodexed custom ROMS
ODEX versus DEODEX
I'm the kind of person who flashes a new rom / update every three or so days.
So I can say I've tried close to every combination of ROM and Kernel abailable on the forums.
My favourite combination which I'm running at the moment is;
Androidmeda_Awesome_Arae_v1.3.2
combined with
SpeedMod K2-12
My battery never runs dry and never/close to recieve and FCs
Try Rom kitchen ki8 coupled with speedmod k2-13 kernel.
Best Rom I've tried, including the newer xwkj1 and cm7.

[Q] Omega Rom Problem - Slow, Laggy & Unstable

Can anyone help.
I have recently started using Omega Rom...i previously was running stock JB.
I found Omega Rom V34 very slow, laggy and it crashed at least once a day.
I have just upgraded to V35 of omega.....its doing the same thing. Its just shocking.
With so many people using it and rating it so highly, it must be something ive done wrong as people would not use this rom as it is installed on my phone.
I used CWM recovery mode to install V34, i think its version 6.0.4? I got the CWM and rooted it etc through SGS3 Toolkit V6.
When i upgraded to V35, i simply, rebooted the phone into recovery mode using the new menu that i got from the V34 rom.
When it installs, it clears all the cache etc on its own.
When V34 installed i recovered all my apps using titanium backup. When V35 installed, for some reason all my apps were installed when it switched back on.
Any advice appreciated, im on the verge of going back stock!
Thanks

I'm pretty sure that I did a full wipe using the Samsung galaxy S3 toolkit the time I stalled v34.
when I installed v35 just just used the installer so i don't think it did a full wipe.
Please advise the best tool for the full wipe. thanks

i had been on omega and it was smooth as butter. perhaps there are apps that causes your phone to consume big memory and lag...
or you know, you can just flash another one if you are unhappy with it xD

Yeah,
I re-flashed with Android Revolution HD, and used the perseus Kernel.
Running sweet now!
Really happy with it so far.
If you're relying on the installer to clear your system and data partitions, that's where your lag and your crashes are coming from. You have to either use a Superwipe script which doesn't come with ARHD or Omega, or the much easier solution is to just clear cache/system/data partitions from recovery.
edit: let me know on here if you don't know how to do those things and I'll point you in the right direction to the best of my knowledge.
I have the same problem
Flashed latest version of OMEGA onto Samsung S3
Featurewise it's perfect, but there is an issue - like you say, it may be a clash with an installed app.
The lag is most noticeable when I bring up the Apps List, but I find over time it gets worse - if I reboot my phone it's improved again although the Apps List can still be slower than before to load.
I did think a likely candidate was avast, but I have the same issue if I don't use Avast.
Oh and I definitely wiped all relevant partitions prior to the install.
btw I'm not here to criticise OMEGA rom - didn't cost me a dime and lots of happy punters out there.

[Q] Flash Player Issue

I need some help. I have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player (Version 11.1.115.69) installed on my stock (rooted/unlocked) Verizon Note 2.
On some videos (that are not a mobile version or through the video player) I get this issue where the sound works fine, but the video is completely messed up. It looks like a bunch of colored lines. The lines move as the video goes along. I don't know what to make of it because it only happens on some videos. Also, this has happened with every version of Flash that I have ever tried (which is all of them, as far as I know) with this device. Anyone else have this problem? In any case, can someone on a stock Verizon Note 2 please go to the page below and try and watch the movie? The lines problem has happened every time I have gone to that page and tried to watch the movie, both on the stock browser and with Dolphin Browser. I attached a screenshot of what happens below.
http://viooz.co/movies/19479-monster...sity-2013.html
Any help regarding how to fix this would be most appreciated!
By the way, that movie is an excellent sequel to the first Monsters Inc. and I recommend it.
(And there is no need to freak out about not paying to watch the movie; I am planning to purchase it for my Nephew in the near future.)

I would venture to say that the problem is the site not flash. So far I haven't run across this problem. Try clean wiping and re-flashing. Also what stock rooted ROM are you running?
Hey. Most likely if you are running stock verizon bloated touchwiz, verizon likes to include a file/apk that is hidden that blocks flash player. To get rid of this you generally have to be rooted. After rooted you can either install a custom rom (any will do) OR if you want to stay stock you can use titanium back up and browse through your list off applications. You will noticed a "flash disable" application in red or something like that. Selected it and uninstall it. Once you do that you should have the flash player working properly.

It has happened to me on far too many sites for it to be their fault. I am on 4.1.1 I605VRALJB. I haven't updated my phone since I bought it in December (bad experiences with updates from Motorola). While this problem is frustrating, I don't think I want to wipe my phone just yet.

What are the names of the apps? you might have frozen the app that runs flash which you want, and then youll have also frozen the app that blocks flash, so over all do you have no flash? (I dont know exacly im just speculating now from what ive read youve done)
edit: maybe try some simple things first, use yet another browser, such as nakedbrowser- its fast and flash works great in it. i would say maybe try unistalling then reinstalling flash, to a newer version http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2190346 i forget its not on playstore anymore. mines currently at 11.1.115.48

Yeah, I unfroze them when it didn't work. I'm on the newest version. 11.1.115.69
Do you know of any glitches/problems with the 4.1.2 update? Is it worth updating to?

yeah ok well thats where my knowledge really ends as to what might be happening.
I understand your hesitation, but if flash is a thing you really want then that alone could be a reason to update. I have not had or seen any instability, or experienced any glitchyness myself and I have also only stuck to the touchwiz roms (simply personal preference). 4.1.2 on this device, well there isnt anything to fear, no getting burned here. lots o great roms to check out.
edit: oh and one last word if you want to stay as you are. did you try the 115.48 flash version?

Yeah, I have not had good luck with updates. I did try that version just now (and several other versions before now).
4.1.2 has been unlocked and rooted, but is it possible to get back to 4.1.1?
Thank you for trying to help! Really appreciate it!

ok I havent really worried about flash i guess on the custom roms there must be some libraries or plugins or something to have flash fully functional.
Make a full nandroid back up of what your on now. Im not 100% positive but if you want you can then just flash back to 4.1.1. Make sure you restore with the same version of the custom recovery you backed up with if you want to go baack.
You should probably also search that question. I believe it has been answered several times. I might have seen it in passing.

Right, because the backup backups the OS as well as your phone memory. That has always boggled my mind. So I could just restore that and be good.
One last question: When installing this update, I probably don't want to be unlocked, right? I know I can temporarily unroot so no problem there.

yes your nandoid will save the image of your system and data(if thats what you mean by phone memory) so youll restore you to that state.
no if your bootloader unlocked and all that, leave it. I recommend looking over droidstyle guide too, i usually do every now and again just to refresh my mind. You can simply flash a stock 4.1.2 rom check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387635 so look for one that is basically untouched except for being rooted and unlocked still. You can also try out any 4.1.2 rom too
Nah, jumping between threads is fun!
But seriously, is it completely necessary to factory reset before flashing that?

Yup. Sorry for late resposnse. So um id suggest if you havent don anything yet. Update to latest recovery proabaly twrp since 8ts easy to use and it seems to be the most versatile (but some customs roms prefer clockwork) then back up efs modem boot system data for a full image of your 4.1.1 so you can be fully backed up. Then do the factory data reset wipe cache and dalvik in recovery after. Af6er wipe then flash rom.
Since you are rooted, you can download the latest version of flash and run it from the stock browser. Chrome has issues with it. I prefer the stock browser as it does exactly what Chrome does but with flash support. And I would suggest atleast upgrading to a 4.1.2 rom. There were alot of bug fixes between the 2.
I'm pleased to report that I flashed that 4.1.2 ROM and the flash player issue is gone.
I was pleasantly surprised to see my sdcard0 remain untouched after I wiped data from custom recovery.

Any help regarding how to fix this would be most appreciated!
By the way, that movie is an excellent sequel to the first Monsters Inc. and I recommend it.
(And there is no need to freak out about not paying to watch the movie; I am planning to purchase it for my Nephew in the near future.)

[Q] Cannot Install new ROM, Status 7 error

So the other day my S3 gave up the ghost, and developed the hard-brick "QHSUSB_DLOAD" error. I have insurance so I was overnighted a new phone, and am sending the old one away. I believe this was related to a long-term power button issue I was having, perhaps a virus, or something. I had not changed anything to the ROM I was using since about October, and the issue just happened now in May.
At any rate, the new S3 I received is an MJB version, Android 4.3, Knox and all that other good stuff. After several failed attempts, I found a method to root this phone and disable Knox. The Warranty Bit is already tripped, so clearly I'm not sending this phone back until it hard bricks as well. I am trying to install the StockMOD ROM that is very popular, however I am being plagued by problem after problem.
I was able to flash a version of CWM Recovery onto my phone, but it was too old and couldn't mount any of the folders. Using ROM Manager, I was able to flash an update to my Recovery, and now it mounts and views all folders properly. However, when I go to install the StockMOD ROM, I continuously get a Status 7 error, something about "expects 5 args, got 3." I wiped the data, cache, and Dalvik, but kept getting this error. So, I had to recover my backup of stock, which didn't go well either. Once my backup was installed, all of my apps kept crashing. Gapps, ROM Manager, everything kept giving me constant FC errors. I had to wipe my data, cache, and Dalvik again and go back to factory default, and reinitialize the phone. Luckily I haven't installed anything of importance on here yet.
A quick search through here states that I need to use TWRP as my Recovery. I've flashed TWRP several times, first using the 2.6... version and then the most recent 2.7.0.0 version, and neither of these will mount any of my folders. It just gives me a litany of errors trying to mount the various locations. I've done Fix Permissions and everything else, TWRP will just NOT mount anything. Other folks say I need the latest PhilZ Recovery. I've downloaded the latest PhilZ Touch 6 and flashed it via Odin. It is giving me the same errors as regular CWM, Status 7, "expecting 5 args, got 3."
I don't know what else to do. My S3 that ran Android 4.0 was so much easier. I had that thing rooted and running a TW based ROM with Nova launcher in about 30 minutes. This phone has been a disaster since I turned it on. I'm just trying to get a 4.3 TW based ROM. I like the Samsung Camera, Calendar, Clock, Messaging, and Contacts apps far better than AOSP versions. But I also want much more customization to my notification drawer toggles. Stock TW doesn't have the toggles I use frequently like the data toggle as well as the torch toggle.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong, because unlike a lot of folks out there, once I find a ROM I like, I stick with it. I'm not constantly updating, changing, or searching for the newest version of Android. There's nothing wrong with that, it just isn't my cup of tea. So does anyone know what I need to do? At this point, I'm about to just give up and use Nova over top of rooted stock TW and call it a day.
Thanks!
Have you tried to go back stock rom using Odin ? I think it might resolve your recovery problem

Everything is stock except the recovery. I'm using CWM 6.0.4.7 with PhilZ Touch 6. I'm still using the stock TW 4.3 ROM that shipped with the phone. The only exception is that I'm rooted now.
I suggest you to go back to a 4.1 official stock rom with odin to be sure to have no more issue.
This can help you : http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/restore-to-stock-rom-galaxy-s3-i9300-t2187081
Also, don't forget to backup your apps with titanium backup and all your sms :good:

Unfortunately, I've heard that it is not possible to revert to anything prior to 4.3 once a phone comes factory installed with 4.3, due to all of the security enhancements and etc. My kernel, modem, and baseband are all factory stock 4.3 MJB. Everyone else on the boards, under various other topics, warn of immediate and sudden death to the phone if you attempt to install a baseband prior to 4.3 MJB.
I'm very surprised to hear that, because recently i've flash stock 4.3 rom and then go back to 4.1.2 to flash a 4.4 rom without any issue and i've got nothing for issues.
Maybe it depends on which country you are ( i'm from France ) ? For what i know , there is a VERY little chance that this downgrade cause dammage to your phone

[Q] Problem: All APPS upgrading on every boot

The phone has been working great on Android 4.1.2 as I describe in the thread ( Optimizing [Rom][I605VRAMC3][4.1.2])
Found Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-2-verizon/help/rom-optimizing-t2817294
EXCEPT NOW, every time I boot the phone, I get a message that says All the APPS are upgrading automatically . I think the problem is related to me Using Titanium Backup to Freeze SDM 1.0 . The reason I froze SDM 1.0 was to stop the Nag from Verizon for a firmware update .
Anyone know what I need to freeze to stop the auto upgrading on every boot? It really slows down the boot time.
Thanks in advance
You probably did this already, but double check to make sure Play Store is not set to Auto Update apps. Can. be found in Play Store. settings. I don't believe that freezing SDM would play a role here, but I've been wrong before.

Hmmmm.... It's probably still working on updating apps that it started working on previous to disabling the auto update.
This might work..... Toggle off your wifi and data, then try going to phone Settings, Application manager, All Apps... then force close the Play Store and wipe the app data. Then open the Play Store again and it should go straight to settings area. Set it to " Do not Auto Update apps " and then back out of Play Store, turn wifi/data back on, and go back into Play Store and sign into the app again/change any other settings back to how you like them . I hope that will stop the auto update.

For a test,
I cleared data and disabled the Play Store, Turned off data and wifi . REBOOTED I'm still getting the same message while booting: Android is updating.......................................... ...................................
Now I'm thinking the problem is due to me flashing Gapps.
I flashed (HDPI / MDPI / TINY: gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip) for Android 4.1.1 – 4.1.2 – Jelly Bean, from http://www.teamandroid.COM/gapps/
I probably shouldn't have flashed it on top of the official stock 4.1.2 Verizon ROM. I probably have two version of Gapps on my phone competing with each other. The quickest thing would probable be to re-flash to the OEM [Rom][I605VRAMC3][4.1.2]

Ok.... I just realized that this has nothing to do with the Play Store App or updating your apps.... Your actual phone system is optimizing at boot screen.... like this pic, right?

I'm not in any way a developer or expert.... this stuff is just a hobby for me...so please understand these are just my thoughts to hopefully help and not make things worse for you. With that said, I suspect you have an app or script (or something) that is doing something like wiping the Dalvik cache with each reboot, which is triggering your phone to run through the optimization process each time you boot. I am pretty confident this has nothing to do with SDM being frozen. I'm not sure about gapps with stock. Why do you need that if your running stock?

Sorry for being off base with my initial thought on your above post... It's been a long week at work and I'm tired.... so that's my excuse...
I hope you get it sorted out with what's causing your phone to upgrade/optimize apps at each reboot. I did a Google search just now and apparently, this is common issue asked on XDA. I found several comments from people saying they think something causes the Dalvik/Cache to get wiped on reboot. I also read where someone reported that flashing Gapps did the same thing to them. If you're going to flash a new ROM, that should take care of the problem when you wipe things for the new flash.
On the XDA forums, it's generally frowned upon to ask for ROM recommendations. But for me personally, I have decided to settle (for now) on Beanstown106's JellyBeans ROM Build 22 which is based off of 4.1.2. I think this was the last 4.1.2 based Rom (for our SCH-I605's) that he did for his JellyBeans ROM before he moved on to developing for 4.3 MJ9, so I think a lot of the bugs were worked out of it.
I love the ROM and I've tried out several others. I always end up coming back to it because it's really stable and (pretty much) everything works. And with Xposed Modules and his built in options, I can tweak everything to how I like it.
You can still grab his older JellyBeans ROM build 22 by going to the current Alliance Rom Thread here: ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2032447 ), and then going to the "Downloads" area right above the thread title. The ROM Filename is: note2_JellyBeans_B22.zip.
There's tons of great ROM's for our phone and there's so many talented developers..... so I truly think you have to read through the threads on each of the ROM's to make a decision for your personal needs... but I know that JellyBeans Build 22 is very stable if that's what you're wanting. If you decide to try out JellyBeans Build 22, let me know if you need help with instructions for flashing it. I saved the install instructions for future reference when I flashed it the first time last year, but I don't see those old install instructions any place now that he's moved on to developing for the updated 4.3 build.

When you say you returned to stock, I'm hoping you didn't ODIN flash a full stock version of 4.1.2, because that would have relocked your bootloader and removed the custom recovery and root. If you were able to use Advance wiping features, you must still have some sort of custom recovery on your phone.
Hopefully, you do so you can flash a zipped ROM back onto it. If you've still got an unlocked bootloader and have a custom recovery, you may want to try to flash this root/modified version of "stock" 4.1.2:
( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261478 ). It was also made by Beanstown106 and the thread still has instructions.
Also, you may do some Google searching to find tips on how to get your computer/ODIN to recognize your phone in download mode again... the most common tips I've seen are to try to uninstall and reinstall the Samsung drivers on your computer...and to try different USB cables and different USB ports on the computer.
I'm exhausted and I'm going to bed, but here are the original install instructions posted by Beanstown106 for JellyBeans ROM Build 22 if needed.

"(INSTRUCTIONS) YOU MUST BE UNLOCKED
Step 1-
Make sure u are unlocked
Step 2-
Wipe all(factory reset and davlick wipe) if coming from an old build
Step 3-

Step 4-

-------------------------------------
Hope that helps. (Also, if Beanstown's stuff helps you... I'd encourage you hitting the thanks button for all his hard work )

Thanks I used JellyBeans ROM build 22 just to have a system so that I could get to Odin. Then I did flash the full stock version of 4.1.2 then I used the Casual method to unlocked the boot-loader and reinstall WIN recovery and root. As explained here http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-2-verizon/help/rom-optimizing-t2817294. ( I ran into some driver issues between Casual and Odin but they were resolved)
Actually I have three Samsung i605's.
I have one that has got all the Verizon OTA updates, never tampered with it's on 4,4,2.
I have the one we have been talking about I have restored it to the fully stock version of 4.1.2 with Root.
And the last one I am experimenting with DN3 (Ditto Note 3) for fun and knowledge.
doctor-cool,
That's great. Glad you got it fixed.
And that's pretty cool to have extra devices to work with. Must be nice.
