I've honestly not had time to tether yet. I have hit 51gb of data though this month already with my uploads and downloads of ROMs tools and mods. :good:

wow 51gb of data in a partial month? Dude that's obnoxious and ridiculous. That is the reason unlimited data went away for some people... ever think of using wifi once in awhile? I'm glad you feel proud of yourself enough to feel the need to brag about it.

meh... i just needed to get that off my chest. I mean i stream music for about 1-2 hours a day and maybe :30 to 1:00 of YouTube a day and probably watch a couple movies a month with a few TV show eps and i don't usually go above 4gb monthly usage. That's just when I'm away from home. The rest of the time I'm on my home Wifi. People like that are trying to use that much data.

Wrong. Verizon's greed is the reason unlimited went away.

Im proud that I can do work on my ROMs while away from my home's router. Push updates at any moment. Download things to test at will. And never have to worry about going over my limit.
Ever think that I do use Wi-Fi when I'm at home but have no access anywhere else? Ever think I don't use data like a normal user? Ever contemplate the fact that I didn't use any of that 51gb to stream anything?
Go cry to someone else about your inability to keep your unlimited data plan. Nothing you can say is going to make me feel bad.

This. Verizon's leadership would like to thank us all for their fat bonus checks since the change. Ditto for all the campaign contributions paid to certain politicians to keep the 2gb or less average user BS rolling. They used historic data HEAVILY biased with 2g and 2.5g data usage in those numbers. Though not counting recent or forecasted usage based on bigger apps, cloud, HD streaming data (that the carriers are pushing) and devices with no sd cards for storage (the DNA as example had no card for a reason).
Common sense is that 4g with low data caps is absolutely pointless and counter intuitive to the premise of usage. Just a few HD YouTube or less than two movies bust past a 2gb cap. They LOVE it when our kids bust past the caps "by accident" and we pay $10 more increments. Why do you think Verizon does not set up an allocation lock down option as standard, for account holders so they can prevent this from happening? Surely you do not think they think the warning texts we get are the best solution to avoid cap busts. Their bonus system depends on cap busting. Feel the burn! Yowsa!
Sorry, but I have corporate friends with VZW and that is where I get insight from. I am in business too, so understand their practice. From a cold business side, bravo, but as a consumer, it sucks real bad.
Added: Until consumers push pack, we shall remain perpetually screwed. Heck, even some broad band providers do relatively low caps. Good luck with them PS4 and especially Xbox One consoles with broadband data caps. Yikes.

I still have my unlimited data. You missed the point. It's lost on you

Verizon tries to exploit its consumers, and consumers likewise will exploit Verizon in a similar manner. If someone has unlimited data, they should use it completely (hell they should even tether their entire house). Exploiting a business is the job of the consumer and vice-versa. Telling someone they should use less data on their unlimited plan is stupidity. You would only be helping out Verizon; consumers should never help out a business, especially one that persistently tries to scam its customers.

Also, I'm not trying to exploit anything. I'm actively working on projects that require downloads and uploads. I have unlimited data. And there is no reason to sip what I have. Next month I may only use <1gb. It depends entirely on what I'm working on.
I'm not really even sure why I'm trying to justify my usage. Im out.

Would anyone else be happy with just being able to use wireless tether app on evo 3d?

im not sayin that flashing roms isnt a big part of the xda community but with all the upgrades to the evo 3d i think just being able to use the wireless thether app for free tethering would be good enough for me. Dose anyone else feel like this or do you want full ROOT

I hate to say it, but I kind of have to agree with both of you lol
yeah, it would probablybe fine for about 4- 6 months or so...but then when a new os version came out say like ice cream and you are still on GB and cant do anything about it...then it would get annoying

When I first left from my Palm Pre, all I cared about was still being able to wireless tether on the road... A few months later, I viewed the forums, and seen leaks of froyo months before HTC put out an official update.... Ever since then I've been a flash-o-holic. I didn't know how open the Android platform was until I had all these options of different builds...... lets not forget the FPS cap that HTC said was because of the hdmi port, that was fix thanks to the community.

So let me get this straight, you don't care at all about HTC unlocking devices to make them open and customizable, you just want them to assist you in being a thief to steal a $30 service from Sprint. Got it!

many of us feel tethering should be included in your data plan. Even with an unlocked bootloader they can still stop tethering, look at at&t. as i posted before, its all about the roms and kernels for me. tether is just a nice bonus. over the past year i've only used it once.

Frankly, Its more important to me that I'm able to remove bloatware from my phone than anything else... but to get deeper into it, carrier updates or not, custom ROMS tend to give a new tech fix making me not have to dish out hundreds of dollars every few months.

I dont feel as if its stealing. Hell i tethered from my treo and blackberry for free. When the evo was 1st being marketed they highlighted the fact it could be used as a mobile hotspot but failed to tell you they were now gona start charging a monthly fee. Fee? For what? You pay monthly to have web access on your phone. Whats it hurting to allow you to hook a laptop or gaming system to your phone. And it seems they only do this to 4g phones. Well i live in baltimore the 1st city they did the wimax with and let me say im sittin at the inner harbor right now and well my friend with his new tmobile sidekick has 4g and my friend with his verizon phone has 4g but guess who dosent. The guy with the evo. Me! Sprint can shove that 4g up there ass. I understand how important flashing rom is im not even gona be stupid enough to debate that on the xda forum. I was just simply askin if the upgrades alone were enough to make you look past flashing rom

Yeah...as you get older you notice that time flies, then it flies faster, then faster. When you were 1 year old the next year was 50% of your life. When you are 29 the next year is a 30th of your life. Our perception doesn't seem to keep up as well as it should...sigh

Wow, great example. Because I'm using my unlimited data plan in a way that gives me the same access to the same network but on my computer, I'm driving away a new Ford for free. The scale is different, the content is different, and the point is missed completely.
Look, people aren't "supposed" to mod their engines to accept different mixes of gasoline, but they do anyway. In so doing, they run the risk of damaging their car... but also others on the road when they crash. Rooting threatens only the rooter (and in fact likely makes the company money when the customer has to buy a new one, while the old one can simply be factory-wiped and reconditioned). Using your internet as unlimited, not tiered, throttled, or restricted nonsense (according to their very own commercials, btw), you're doing what you really "should" have every right to do.

Don't be so harsh on the guy. I sympathize with his pain. Yes this is a development section. However, no one seems to be doing any developing. If they are, they're keeping it a big secret. All the major devs I know that are usually working on this stuff are still very obsessed with the Charge and the soon to be released Bionic. No one seems to want to step up and take DX2 on. I didn't have a choice in getting a DX2. My DX broke and this is what the insurance sent. I thought it was a great thing until I saw that no one is doing anything on it.
Yes, his post probably should go in another area. However, let's try to keep this thing like family. When I came with noob questions, people weren't chastising me. When I fell for the XOOM hype, and didn't know if I should keep it, people here shared their thoughts on the subject. That was one of the reasons I came to love XDA - they didn't judge me, but rather found ways to relate what I was going through. Even in this ROMless DX2 hell that we find ourselves in, I still love my XDA family. Let's try to help the guy and not condescend to him.
Take care and stay blessed

Has anyone figured out anything on this pos Droid x2. I'm starting to get irritated this phone blows unless it gets overclocked.
Move it or close it, Mr. Clown.
Yes, I'm well aware this a development forum. I'm not by any means new. I'm rooted, supercharged with V6 and running a few different launchers to make respond quicker but with that being said, its at the end of its rope. By asking for a reason not to; I was implying for some developers to step up to the plate for a device that has potential.

Yeah the dev community is disappointing. And they're a bit slow on the draw.
I may be looking at the Charge or Bolt before 7/7/11 to stay grandfathered.
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
Yeah I'm with you buddy. I'm planning on selling this for either the Thunderbolt or Bionic. I don't like the design of the Charge even though it is a great phone. Also depends on if the Bionic will have a locked bootloader. If it does, I'm going with the Thunderbolt. Hopefully Wirefly still sells it for $199 for an upgrade in August
But don't get me wrong, this is a great device. I haven't had any lag or problems, and I actually like the new MotoBlur. If there was more development on this I'd definitely keep it, but I miss flashing CM7 and other roms every night.
Question: If I have unlimited 3g now, will I still be able to get unlimited 4g come August once Verizon implements their tiered plans? I really hope so, or else I'll be using 3g for as long as I'm with Verizon.
Me too
Anyone want mine $200
Swift,
If you have unlimited data now, you're grandfathered in UNLESS or UNTIL you switch phones, plans or upgrade after 7/711. Any changes after that date will force you to take the new tiered pricing.
It may suck. I use every bit of 2gb a month if not more. $50 a month for 5gb make hurt my pocket too much. But that's a topic for another forum.

Actually, the one thing that it does keep doing is rebooting without provocation. It's gotten to be quite annoying. Every phone that I have received from Asurion does it, so I'm beginning to think this is some sort of FroYo/hardware complication. (No I have no evidence to support that theory.) Some of you have mentioned using the new supercharger script. Does it help with this rebooting problem or will I just be putting myself deeper into a hole?

Seriously? That's just plain dumb if you ask me. I don't even understand why Verizon is doing this tiered crap. This is probably why when I first asked for the Thunderbolt, the rep kept on trying to dissuade me from getting it.
This really makes me want to switch to Sprint, or even AT&T once they set up their LTE network. Whatever carrier gets the SGII is where I'm going -.-

[Q] Whats your opinion on free wifi tethering?

Are we being unreasonable or are the carriers just trying to make an extra buck?

I'm paying for the data. Should be mine to do as I please (within legal restraints obviously). I hate the misdirection about unlimited too. Unlimited as long you stay within a certain limit isn't unlimited. Should be black or white. Not grey with tons of fine print.
luckily ive been with tmobile for a looong time and i still have the true unlimited plan.
I use AT&T and I wifi tether on a Vibrant. I feel that wifi tethering is fine because we're paying for data anyway. Not our faults they invented something smarter than what they can control. It was those phone brands that decided to put that function into the phones. Whatever our phones come with should be made available for us to use. It's like what's the point of a front facing camera (besides camwhoring) if you cant Skype with it.

Ya I have unlimeted messages but it doesn't. Stop me at 3000 and I also have unlimited data it is unlimited but it slows down past 5gigs so that's where they get the right to do that not worth paying for "unlimeted" if it will slow down at 5gigs.

If this is true, we can Thank the iPhone and all the Apple A-HOLES. The CARRIER KILLER Strikes Again. I now wish AT& T was able to buy T-Mobile. At least Sprint would have tried to stay competitive still. Once a Carrier gets the iCrap they forget who got them there

This is a **** move from sprint, they are going back downhill. They are upping their etf to $350 and now this? If they had decent 3g then ok but service is subpar. They want to play with the big 2 (being Verizon and AT&T) and they can't even match them with service. Yes we have unlimited but what good is that if people are only getting 300 kbps downloads.
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
Sprint is far from putting whip cream on waffles, they where doing good before these changes. I would not renew my contract for a $350 etf for **** service.

What's funny is I just talked to a Retention Manager and He told me that he got that e-mail about 30 minutes ago about the Premiere Program going away and was surprised it was in the Interwebz already. This is horrible. I have been with Sprint 11+years and if they think they can move up to the big dogs (Verizon & AT&T) and NOT provide the same Speed in 3G and 4G (LTE) they are going to loose customers so quick it will make their heads spin. Greed plain and simple. Get the iPhone and get Greedy, A-Holes. Bye Sprint, Hello Verizon and the Bionic.
All of this is totally understandable to me at least on Sprints part. They have the best rates and want to keep them a little longer. They have to make cuts somewhere.
I probably don't sympathize well because I just now finally got a cell phone but I think their rates are way better than Verizon or AT&T.
I do understand long term bonuses though because I've worked at the same place for over 18 years and to lose something sucks.
If I am going to get RAPED, I will at least have better coverage. Sprint has horrible coverage and thinks because they are getting the iPhone they can be Jerks. Adios Sprint, Hello Verizon. My Wife has a 24% discount with Verizon. Hopefully the Bionic is a nice phone. I may just go Trac Phone. This is getting ridiculous.
This thread is going no where real quick.

What I really don't understand is why this would the the iPhones fault. I've read that iPhone users don't use as much data as Android users, so I'm a little confused why Sprint would need to put the new rules in place.

Me and my gf signed up b4 the 14 day exchange policy do we still get our 30 days?
This stinks but its bringing them to same as the other carriers. Also, at least they are giving notice, over 3 months for the people who are close. If I'm not mistaken, I believe Verizon gave like no notice when they screwed over. Not happy, just hit gold and all cause its a crappy iphone but I can't see leaving for another carrier when they do the same or worse. Sprint still has the best plan prices and unlimited data (not saying this won't change next) F Apple.

Stop Verizon from killing unlimited data plans for existing subscribers

Head's-Up on another petition (Stop Verizon from killing unlimited data plans for existing subscribers). I really hope this one pan's out better then the boot loader petition.
6,476 Signatures so far so let's rock the petition Sign On Dude's...

Do any other carriers get this many petitions thrown at them? lol

Guys, it doesn't matter how many signatures this gets. They are making less money than they used to off of unlimited data contracts. This is going to happen.
@theredvendetta is right. I would love to think these petitions would do wonders for us, but our track record with them isn't what I call spectacular. The best way to deal with this is hit them where it hurts the most-their wallet.
If you are not voting with your feet and won't move to a different carrier, then you have no hope and Verizon knows it, so you are wasting your time. Verizon gets thousands of complaints every day about cost, signal, speed, plans customer services. I don't see Verizon improving any of that, its only gets worse, more expensive, etc. So save your signatures and use your wallet to vote Verizon out.
Just don't upgrade, to a 4G phone. Once you upgrade to 4G,then unlimited data plans are gone!

Not totally true. I was told if a moved to the Nexus sometime this week, Ill keep unlimited until the big plug is pulled.
You think they'll just suddenly get rid of unlimited for 3g customers wanting to upgrade to 4g?
I've been watching all the major android news sites to hear of any news on the subject from Verizon.
I want to go from my X2 to a SGIII but would rather not preorder. No guarantees.
In order to circumvent all of this, I want to do the following:
I may get a Nexus through Costco soon to lock into 4g unlimited. Then, once the SIII comes out at the same time the new shared data plans will like debut, I'd use Costco's 90-day warranty to return the Nexus and get a SIII with the intent to keep unlimited 4g.
In anyone's user experience, do you have to sign a new contract when upgrading your device? Can I just keep the Nexus plan?
Sooo I pretty much wrote this to see if you guys see any flaws in my master plan.
Almost 2000 more Signatures since my orignal post not to shabby. We need to get the word out. I known some people think this won't make a diffierance and maybe they're right. Showing are dissatisfaction will at least slow these greedy icehole's down.
My thought's on this is you want to renege on your grandfather promise raise data price's fine but don't force me to pay for it. How many people are using wi-fi because there 3g,4g is to slow or hardly working and paying a premium price for a service they don't use. Give your customers a choice. I do not have problem saving a dollar a day and using wi-fi.
But That's Just My Opinion. I Could Be Wrong..

Odds are nope. They don't care. They'd rather just continue to screw us.

Petitions only help for local government issues. Not multimillion dollar communications company the sooner people realize this the better. Money makes them run a petition doesn't stop their money flow so it won't work.

How does it make it better?
So they use there energy in more productive ways. It's all good though everyone can do what they feel is right. But what would get Verizon's attention would be 3k people not renewing their contacts. With the reason being the death of unlimited data. Not 3k signatures from people who are still going to begrudgingly pay them.

Verizon can change anything they want, anytime they want to. Look at your service agreement, everything is subject to change.

True statement - they don't seem like they aim to change that right now. I'd go to them as I've heard they're rates aren't bad. Is it true that they don't actually have 4G towers?
