T-Mobile sent me an unlock code and I inserted my old AT&T SIM into it, punched in the code, and then my phone rebooted into a weird boot loop. It would get to the first HTC logo, then reboot, over and over and over. I don't know what I did, but I got it to finally boot all the way through. I re-inserted the AT&T SIM card and it asked me to pick a carrier from a list (AT&T, Straight Talk, etc.) so I assume the unlock worked. I just thought it was weird that entering an unlock code can send the phone into that boot loop.

This! I had something similar happen about a year ago with a different HTC phone. I think it was a One X. Anyway, unless you are on a stock rom, the unlock code doesn't work.
YMMV....
I just unlocked my phone with tmobile code and it keeps restarting also.

Hey Guys,
Hopefully someone can help me out since I can't seem to find answers anywhere to my problem. I got an unlock code from T-Mobile but when I put a foreign sim into the phone is says "invalid sim, 0 attempts remain". I got the phone on craigslist so I'm guessing whoever had it before me tried unlocking it with the wrong code too many times. I have the right code now, how do I reset the attempts? I can't believe that the phone is hard locked and there isn't anything I can do about it. It's pretty frustrating so any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!!!
really???? no one knows anything about this issue?
So people here know how to put different operating systems on phones but no one knows if it is possible to reset the sim unlock counter?????
the phone is hard locked and (certainly in most cases) can now only be unlocked by using a hardware unlocker. (for most phones, you get three attempts via the keypad, and a further 10 via a hardware connection normally.)
thanks for the reply! what exactly does hardware unlocking mean? would i still need to use the code given to me by t-mobile?
speak to a phone shop (or better yet speak to t mobile first)
have you tried to restore the phone to factory(not a hard reset). I would try going to Tmobiles website and try to update the rom...

^is for US phones I just did mine today because the guy that put android on it removed the unlock screen and I was unable to unlock the phone. And no one on here was able to answer any questions for me so don't feel bad.
Got it unlocked last night! turns out the sim card i was using was locked. i tried a different one and it let me key in the code. thanks for all the help!
now that the phone is unlocked would doing a hard reset lock it back up?

good stuff. No, flashing / hard resets will not ever lock the phone now.

Not sure what you're talking about, but ROM flashing has nothing to do with sim unlocking. If you're not using an official sim for the carrier your phone came from, you have to buy an unlock pin online or try to get one from the carrier.
hmm
I removed the number from my post ... seems like i cant remove it from the replied one .
I bought from AT&T and came to india ...... Now it is keeping on asking for the unlock pin
i was desperate .,., any idea , where i can get an unlock pin is helpful
any software ?

One thing you can do is buy an unlock code, like check eBay, I highly doubt you'll be capable of getting software to do it
Any trustworthy ?
I was googling , I found that many might be a scam
If any one else has done this before from a good seller ...
references please ?

hey kiran.. i too had same problem... I got this moto atrix with android 2.2.2 version frm AT&T carrier locked.. i tried to unlock with "RSD lite" software by keeping the phone in "Starting RSD Protocol Support" and again booted it in "fastboot" mode and tried "fastboot oem unlock" command, then rebooted the phone (this process i got on googling) the phone rebooted saying unlocked, but when i insert my sim it is still asking for "SIM Network unlock PIN"
did u find any solution ? i too thought of buying that PIN online, but was just checking if anyone did it before in india...

Fastboot oem unlock does NOT sim-unlock the phone!!!! It unlocks the bootloader!!! *facepalm*

hello everyone,
been out of the scene for a while, and I just sold my dell streak, however, the new owner cannot use his new dell streak as its locked to AT&T. I obtained an unlock code from them by calling them, but the streak is on MIUI and the menu that ask for the unlock number does not come up, is there any other way to do this? do I have to flash an original android firmware to it? Thanks in advance.

you said it is sim unlocking... therefore (usually) it is phone related locking... not from at&t... there should be a menu for security > sim card lock
im just trying to unlock the phone to be used with TMobile, it is locked to AT&T not sure if it's phone or sim. AT&T gave me a code to unlock it but when I insert the sim the menu to unlock it doesn't pop up

open Settings > Security and search for something similar to sim card lock... you should get something from there...
if you get nothing.. most probably the phone is network locked... my phone is network unlocked where i can insert any sim... and it does have sim card lock in case there is someone else want to use the phone and use another sim card in it...
If you mean CARRIER unlocking and not the sim card itself, you have to install a stock rom. Sim unlocking isnt exactly something that can be easily tested on a custom rom, so that's your only reliable way of doing so.
If you mean the actual sim card itself, cant help ya
anyone care to share some rom links, all the ones ive tried dont work or a whole bunch of ads come up.

I have a factory locked S3, but my provider gives out the unlocking code for free. I put in a sim from another provider, got asked for the code, entered it and it worked.
I then rooted the phone.
However, after a few days I wanted to remove root and reflashed stock firmware with Odin. I searched out the proper file here at xda and flashed it. I then got an error about messaging stopped everytime I booted and searched some more. The solution was to flash with Odin again, but check upgrade bootloader. After that the phone works fine and everything is in place like it was new.
But, my phone has been locked again and my code does not work anymore. I have called my provider (leaving out the root and flashingpart) and they say that if the unlock is not working I must send it to them so they can unlock it.
So I have these questions:
1. Having done what I have done, will TriangleAway + reflashing stock with Odin remove every trace of my "tampering"?
2. What can they do to the phone that I cannot do myself with som advice from xda?
3. How many attempts are there of entering the unlock code? It still asks for a code. I do not get any message about too many tries. But I have must have punched the code more than three times...
I have read that people get their IMEI changed when reflashing, but mine is still original. I can not understand why the operator lock has come back.
Please help!
1) I believe so yes (not sure, I'm new to this forum just what I've read)
2) They can block the IMEI if the phone was lost/stolen
3) I am not sure with Samsung/Android phones but when I was unlocking my mums Nokia C3 it only allowed me to enter a code three times before displaying an error message.
It is not stolen or lost. I have bought it from my operator myself. I talked to them today and there is no block on this phone. It does work with my operators sim, but no other sims.
My question was that they can do to unlock ut that I cannot do myself?

Everything, they are your carrier.
None of us can generate unlock codes for the phone, they can get the unlock codes and make sure it's 100% unlocked

What about the Voodoo sim unlock app ? You'll need root access though. the app has also been removed from the Play Store
The dev's site, you can download and sideload the app from here:

That's not an unlock code though it's just temporary. A factory unlock is permanent (or so it should be)

I spoke to my carrier and they said that there was only one valid code for my IMEI, and that does not work anymore. It did work once, but after reflashing the firmware with Odin, the lock came back and now the code does not work.
Perhaps they just replace the phone with a swap unit? Therefore I ask again, will TriangleAway and reflashing stock remove all traces of rooting/tampering? If not I will get the phone back and be forced to pay for the service as well.
+1 for this problem.
I unlocked mine with the voodoo unlocker and was fine for a couple of months. Flashed a newer version of cm10 and was asked to enter Sim unlock code. This time I got the pin from my carrier but with that number it says Sim unlock unsuccessful.
Anyone else had this problem? Anyone know of a solution?
At the moment I just have a fancy mp3 player/camera :silly:
Voodoo sim doesn't work properly with then latest firmwarea but theres a new app 'Galaxsim-unlock' that I can recommend. Your'llshare find it over in the themes and apps section

You can try to use Valhalla ( Voodoo has disappeared from the Play Store ) :
http://donmacsblog.blogspot.co.uk/2012_06_01_archive.html?m=1
I've managed to get mine back to unlocked.
I was on cm10 and then when flashing a newer version the lock came back. I was originally using voodoo sim unlock but that wouldnt work this time so rang my carrier and got an official code which would not work either.
Flashed back to stock using odin making sure to use the network branded ROM i was originally on and not just a stock ROM, then enter the code the carrier gave me and this time it worked!
Guessing you must be running a stock carrier branded ROM for the code to register properly and unlock.
Hope this works for anyone else!
I performed a factory restore in the motorola Atrix i had bought in ebay and that made my cellphone get unblocked to SIM cards that are not from AT&T. I have the PIN code to unlock again but the cellphone does not accept it, i'm getting crazzy about it. Does anyone have idea of what i could do?
I'd try (re)flashing a radio or a different version.
Although I'm not saying you should do it.

this article might be of some help http://mobility.forumsee.com/a/m/s/p12-9411-041344--solved-sim-unlock-fails-with-valid-code.html , and if you look on atrix q&a section you'll find someone else with the very same problem.
It's not officially unlocked. Talk to an AT&T representative online & tell him that you're locked. He'll ask your IMEI & give you the unlock code. (for free). Then your set will be re unlocked again.

The phone will also prevent SIM unlocks after too many unsuccessful attempts. You may have went over your limit. Try getting a new code from AT&T. Maybe the code you have is a one-time use only code?

Same thing with my Razr D1 (XT918), I had bought unlocked from a big store here in Brazil. I performed a hard reset (factory reset), and after that, the sim slot 2 does not recognize any SIM card. I remade the reset procedure but it is the same message: "SIM locked ME. Slot SIM you are about to use is locked. Do you want to unlock? Enter (8-16 digits) to unlock."
Apparently, after the reset, the cellphone set a lock in the slot, which can be checked manually by the way:
Settings> Security> Set up SIM card lock
PS: The other slot (1) usually works with any SIM card.
If a had the slot unlock code, I think I could solve the problem, but in some brazilian foruns, I found that its a problem with these cellphone models (D1 and D3). After the factory reset the slot is locked. Motorola replied in costumer service that is working in a solution, but a need my second slot...
Somebody can help?
