I copied about 400 photos from my G Nexus to the DCIM/Camera folder on my external SD card in my S4.
The camera was already pointing to the external SD card to save photos, and any photos I take show up in the Gallery, but the ones I copied there don't show up in the Gallery.
I can see the photos with Root Explorer, but I can't get those photos to show up in the Gallery. I've tried changing the settings for what photos display in the Gallery to refresh the photos displayed, but that doesn't help.
Appreciate any advice...I'm stumped.
Nvm...DOH! Rebooted and they are there now in the Gallery.

Hi, I was organizing my photos into one folder and now I have some photos, the once I moved, with an "!" instead of a thumbnail in my gallery. I have cleared cache for gallery and rebooted, deleted the thumbnail folder with no luck. Is there anything I can do?
Thanks
I would try to move them to a computer and see if they show. What format does it say it's in?

They are taken VIA Camera Zoom Fx and are in jpeg format.

If they are still in the jpeg format, try to copy them over to a computer via usb. See if they show up. If they do, transfer them back over to another folder. See if that works. Just throwing ideas out there that might help.

When ever I have a photo or a icon or something on my SD card that becomes corrupted some how that's what it shows up as in the gallery. I would definitely try what Jay said though and transfer to your pc and see if they show.

By moving the photos to a different folder maybe it was corrupted or that it can not find the original path of the photo. I have that come up once in a while when i delete a photo from the camera app, root explorer. The thumbnail cache still exists in the gallery but it can not find the jpeg.
Hi all, I'm having a problem with the gallery. I use the stock gallery and JustPictures. I put a bunch of photos on the phone in the correct location on the sd card. However, only new pictures taken with the phone display in either gallery. I can browse the directory and see both new and copied photos so I know all the pictures are in the right place.
Have tried rebooting as well as clearing the app data for both apps.
Help!

Sure surprised me. The update left everything else intact. The Gallery app doesn't even have my Picasa photos either. I can choose Picasa and it shows the folders, but every album has no content in it.
Update: after a refresh a couple of times the gallery app finally agreed I had albums and photos in Picasa. Still no sign of any photo that was previously on my phone. Even a photo I took in the morning right before I updated the phone has disappeared.
Anyone else notice this?
Are you sure they are missing from the sd card? An OTA update never touches the sd card.
Use a root explorer and see if your photo's are still on your sd card, if you can see them then either your sd card needs to be formated or it could be bad.

Thanks. Found the photos using a file explorer. Can use the file explorer to open the photos using the Gallery app. Apparently they hard coded a change in the Gallery app to where it looks for photos though, because I can see an photo I've take since the update, but there appears to be no way to tell the Gallery App to find and display the prior photos right where they were originally stored on my SD card.
Anyone have an "easy" way to fix this?

Once the File Explorer proved the original photos were still on board, I simply plugged the phone into my PC and moved them to where the camera/gallery app are currently saving/finding photos. Took a moment to thin out and sort them as well. Could have done all this with the File Explorer, but much easier on the large screen of my PC.
Hey guys i have a slight problem last night i transfered a folder from my internal sdcard to my external sdcard but after it transfered my gallery would not show my camera pictures i factory reseted my phone. Cleared memory storage data and gallery data as well...any suggestions?

hi jason
are you sure your SD is mounted and recignized?
try to pull it off, and re-insert it. afterwards reboot your device.
if it still isn't recognized try to read it with a card reader\another device and backup+format it.
All the photos in the sd show up perfectly its the internal sd that doesnt show pictures. Also it looks like the root directory has been changed to sdcard/storage/sdcard0

What if your ext-sd damaged inside? Did you try to another sd card? Music player read your mp3 from that sdcard? Or a file explorer app can see and open your pictures?

I have a similar problem. My external SD card is mounted and browsable using ES File Explorer and all my media files are visible and viewable from ES. However, none of the media files on the external card appear in the various apps (i.e. pictures not visible in gallery, mp3s in the music player etc.). What is even stranger is that once I set the stock camera to save new pictures to the external SD these pictures are visible in the gallery, however all other pictures present taken on my previous phone (HTC Desire) are still not visible, even when located in the same folder. The same pictures do show up if I transfer them to the internal SD card but I would rather not have them all stored there.
Any help would be very much appreciated!
Cheers,
Sam

I have the direct opposite problem, my internal doesn't show, whereas met ext-sd is visible in my apps. Need help too!
I have resolved this on mine, I formatted the external sd card and copied everything back. I guess the S3 just didn't like reading a card formatted by the Desire, I'll know better next time!

Search inside your photo folders. If you see a file named .nomedia delete it.
This is because you're using third party file manager. Use the stock My File to move the files back and forth and it will show up in the gallery.

I read somewhere that there was a bug in cwm manager latest version which put a .nomedia file in the root directory. There are fixes where you have to remove the .no media file and reinstall cwm.

sd card does not show on my lg optimus p509, while it works on other phones and pcs. it shows sdcard umnounted or not inserted while i was sending a file through bluetooth before, and from then onwards...i have formatted it through pc also. i had rooted it with superclickone before. it is from t-mobile and i have unlocked it in my country. current software version lg-p509-v10l, android version 2.2, kernel 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1 sun oct 24 19:10:09 kst 2010, build number FRF91. thank you...
My sd photos do not show in my Gallery
Dears,
All you need to do rather than resetting your phones is simply go to your application manager and clear the cache and anything for the Gallery as an application. And make sure that you also acquire the Gallery app with all the needed permissions to access your sd card. Then open your Gallery app, and there you go.
Enjoy!

I originally posted this in T mobile lg v10 by mistake, but I tried editing raw and jpeg photos to rotate them from landscape to portrait and every time I click save it says unable to save changes. Any help on this?

I believe it only works if you store pics in the phone's internal memory. I've set it to external storage (microSD card) and started getting this error. Had to switch it back to internal memory.

Thank you in going to try and see if that helps. Do you think it would also act up if I have then set to back up on my Google drive too?

I've had the same issue when editing photos. I just tried unmounting the SD card and took a new photo, I was able to edit the new photo saved to the phone just fine.
Anyone have a problem with pictures that are taken in portrait mode, as opposed to horizontally, and if you edit them, they won't post on any social media site correctly? Mine all go on correctly, but when I go back to view them they are tilted sideways. Any ideas how to fix?
I don't have any of these issues.
On Verizon, no camera app(s), and every picture taken goes straight to the SD Card and edited, cropped, etc from the SD Card.
