My HTC one is showing up as android phone underdevices... - T-Mobile HTC One (M7)

Basically I have no rom on my phone, I have tried sideloading and everything and it could not work. However, I noticed under devices that instead of saying HTC it says android phone and I am unable to access it. I have tried going into properties, however it refuses to let me uninstall or or update drivers. Does anyone know anyway for my phone to recognize it as a HTC and not just an android phone? Maybe then I can bump a rom or sideload it onto my phone. Also when I sideload it shows HTC XXXXXXXXXX when i typ in cmd adb devices. In CWM it says sideload started. When I go to adb sideload derp.zip it gives me a massive wall of text and my phone doesn't show any files being transferred and says its still waiting for them to start transfer.
Any ideas?
Worst case scenario you think I could take it to T-Mobile and ask them to do a factory reset on it?

That used to happen to me with another phone I had and what I would do to solve it was uninstall the "android phone" driver (with the device connected at all times), then scan for hardware changes and it would reinstall the driver correctly.
I haven't experienced this issue with this phone but worked in the past with other HTC phones, hope it helps

Also, you may need to regedit uninstall. Search and delete all "android" references in your registry. Reboot. Install generic android drivers.
But definitely try the simpler method first!

Tried both of the solutions and neither one worked I am at my wit's end lol
Anythign else I can try?

Assume you've also tried installing generic HTC drivers?

[Q] How to get back to original HTC rom?

So I'm trying to get back to HTC to test a few things.
My keyboard is not working well at all with Froyo for some reason and I'd like to make sure it's Froyos problem (anybody else got this problem?)
I've found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559622
I run the wizard and it can't find my phone, though it's connected to the usb and all.
Is that how it should be done?
There is a thread somewhere by btdag called ruu and usb errors solved. That should sort you out.
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
Looks like this thread covers exactly what I'm looking for (including the keyboard issue):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=750318
Basically:
For anyone having issues with Error 155(CID-checks fail, perhaps?) or 171(USB fail) while trying to restore a rooted HTC Hero to stock with an official RUU-exe, this is what worked for me where nothing else did:
- Create Goldcard
- Extract ROM.ZIP from the Official RUU exe you want to use. I downloaded it from their main site
- Rename to HEROIMG.zip
- Boot to flashboot mode (Volume down + Power on)
- Flash.
- Reboot and enjoy your new stock HTC Hero.

Haven't tried yet but should do the trick.
Haven't found the "ruu and usb errors solved" thread though.
Thanks!
[Guide] Drivers & RRU Errors Solved
... If you need it...
This is frustrating.
Got stuck in the very first step of both guides.
The one saying to make a gold card, I can't even run adb on windows. It says command not found on cdm.
So I'm going to the more reliable guide with the screenshots.
Right on the first step when you need to uninstall drivers, I select and click "uninstall" and nothing happens.
Gotta love windows.
Anyone who succeded doing this and how?

Were you in the correct folder when you tried to use adb? You need to install adb from the sdk, and run it from that folder, else windows can't know what program you are trying to use, unless you add it to $PATH.
I use adb all the time, and have tried millions of driver versions without issue.

Thanks for the reply.
I didn't use ADB; no idea how to use that.
I managed to get it working after some struggle and what worked was:
- Install HTC Sync. That will install the correct drivers
- Install HTC RUU from the official site
It was many trial and error times but in the end it worked.
Thanks again!
i have same problem. i want back my official soft with now root, but when i tried it with HTC RUU i get error (something about please check the phone has correctly connected on computer) so i don't know where's the problem. And one question more: when i plug my phone with usb cable to computer then which mode should i use? (charge only, disk drive...)

Try Installing HTC Sync first.
You using Windows 7 right? I think it's a Windows problem that install wrong drivers. HTC Sync will fix that.
Then you can try again.
The usb you just plug and you're done, no need to set a mode. You should get a (sound) notification that it's plugged.
My major issue with this is the need for a win machine. Everything would be much better if I could just do it in linux.
My phone was sent to repair now You also got trouble with the Hero keyboard?
nope, but the gps is dead. I try to repair it by warranty. But at the moment i have froyo rom with root and as you all knows ROOT=NO WARRANTY :S

[Q] HTC Hero: Unable to root. adb says "error: device not found"

Hey, I've tried various methods of rooting my GSM Hero, and eventually found the method on this site entitled "VillainROM Roots 2.1 RUU for GSM Hero (Confirmed)". I got as far as trying to run runindos.bat, and this just returns the error as explained. If I run "adb devices" I get "List of devices attatched" and then just nothing after it. Strange.
Does it have anything to do with the fact that HTC Sync never picks up my phone?

adb, drivers or usb debugging, check it

USB Debugging is enabled, not sure how to check adb but what's the correct way to install the drivers? Is it by running the "SDK Manager" program in my SDK folder?
Moved to Q&A as not development.
Get the drivers via the sdk manager, and manually install them via device manager for the device.
Ahh, sorry about the wrong section. I assumed that Development would be things concerning roots.
SDK Manager only seems to let me install "SDK Platform Android X.X", I don't see any driver installations. Also, I'm not sure where it installs these to.
Edit:
Okay I tried to install "USB Driver" but Windows said that it was already up to date. Still not appearing in adb :/.
Hmmm. Search for drivers in dev forum, as I think I posted mine (or instructions to hack them) on one of the Froyd villain threads somewhere.
Also, I presume you have rebooted and tried adb right after reboot
Drivers for you
Thanks to you both, I'll try those later on today.
I'd rebooted both the PC and the phone and tried it. Nothing unfortunately. It just seems to be a big Windows 7 problem.
I use Win 7 without any problems.
Check out this epic guide by BTDAG,...

Good news and bad news. The drivers are now working, adb is working and runindos.bat is doing it's thing. Unfortunately, when it reboots the second time for recovery, there's just a red triangle with an exclamation mark in it.
I rebooted and got back to where I was, but how do I get the "Care Bear" boot screen? Am I supposed to have moved RA-Hero to my phone first or do I not need anything?
Thanks.
Hi Craig. I had to repeat process 4-5 times before it worked so make sure you have your new rom on SD for when it works. I had all same probs but it will get there. As pulser said on villain try changing directory to avoid echo. It seems to load a little more each time.
Sent from my living room.
Hmm, if the recovery thing with the phone in the background comes up, and has "apply:update.zip" as a selection, should I try that? I've tried a few times and that's usually what comes up, along with reboot phone and another couple of selections.
I've got it! Thanks very much for everything. I just kept doing it and it's working now. I got FroydVillain and I'm loving it! I never realized the Hero could be so smooth.
Also sorry for the double post, I'm used to auto-merging on formus.

MTP drivers just wont install

The driver install fails on the HTC MTP driver install...I cannot get by this. I am running Windows 7 64 bit...anyone else having this issue?
OMG I fought with that for HOURS. I never did get them to work. I installed htc sync, htc sync manager, and I installed the all in one kit drivers.. Nothing. Windows 7 64 bit too.
I assume you are trying to unlock the bootloader and root?
Do both things manually using fast boot commands and recovery.
Tl;dr you can root without MTP drivers

exactly like me, I have been fighting with this for two days now. Reinstalling htc sync, htc sync manager, cleaning out existing drivers reinstalling again. Removing everything that could be associated with htc at all, reinstalling android sdk etc etc.
Nothing makes my phone recogniced by ´adb devices´not even htc sync software recognice it.
Every time I plug it in, the device is recogniced and installed and it says under Portable Devices in the device manager ´HTC One X+´
Do you get the Choose type of connection screen on your phone when connecting it? Because I dont, is just says connected in debug mode, even if debug development tools is turned of and debug of. But it still doesnt show up in adb.

No, not on this phone.. I think it has to do with the MTP crap. You can read an informative post by Lloir in the dev section to find out more.

hmm.
went back to the store and made them try connecting the phone to one of their laptops, if course everything worked perfectly there
So now im back trying to figure out what to do. Going to find the post you mention and see if I get any hints there.
Did you notice my post above where you I claimed you can root and unlock without the drivers?
What do you need to do that you need them?
Hi,
I am reading this, it is exactly what I recognize with my new One X+ too.
BUT I am not wanting to root or something. I'd like the Navigon software to recognize my device and download the maps like it did on my Desire HD.
Any more hints to how I can get this running ?

Ruud

[Q] ADB: No devices found - HTC EVO 3D GSM

Hello,
I have my HTC EVO 3D with this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2526391 (CyanogenMod 11 - Android 4.4.3) and I cannot connect my phone with computer and use ADB. The reason is propably that when I connect my phone to PC it is shown as Mass Storage with name "HTC" (YES, I have USB debugging on). I have tried to reinstall drivers several times but it still says that my drivers are correct. I have the latest adb (1.0.31).
Thanks for help.
BUMP?
Hey man! My first thought was that you need to update adb but I see you've already done that. Assuming you're not having any driver issues, I want to say that the phone needs to be in charge only mode (not mass storage).
Now if that simple change doesn't help anything, and you're on the updated adb, it has to be a driver issue, cable issue or issue with some other software running on the computer.
HTC sync for example can interfere with fastboot/adb. Even if your drivers are okay.
Also, since jellybean; with the updated adb, there is an on-screen prompt as a newer security feature.
So make sure your screen is awake and check to see that you aren't getting a prompt to allow your computer to communicate with the device via adb.
My phone is in charge-only mode. In the computer my phone appears as a Mass Storage but I don't see it in "My Computer" as a device (only in Device Manager). I have tried to install HTC Sync, uninstall it and so on.. I'have also tried to connect my phone to another computer and it makes same things...
Noone knows?
Interesting fact is that HTC Sync also doesn't see my phone...
This might be far off but have you installed bluestacks or anything similar? It's known to mess with ADB and the like.
Also you could try a Ubuntu live cd as it should eliminate any driver issues.

Well, I haven't.
What should I do with Ubuntu?
What version of windows are you running? 8.1? If so yo need to Disable driver security reinforcement (or whatever its called) then install drivers again.
Look here.
This is originally not dedicated to your phone but should work as well.

This finally works! Thank you so much. I have no idea why this works because I have tried this several times. Now everything works just perfect!

Android corrupted, reformat doesn't fix the problem????

Hey guys, new member here but been a lurker off and on for awhile.. not sure what to do, you guys are my last hope.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Core Prime from straighttalk. Android version is 4.4.4 (I think).
Anyway, I was screwing with it trying to speed it up using a few apps I downloaded from the store, the apps let you uninstall apps that the normal manager won't let you and manage what system apps are allowed to run at startup..etc. also I was messing with applock and phone encryption.. So I'm not sure what messed things up.
Well needless to say, I shoulda been more careful, because now my phone is screwed! I can't view my home screen at all so can't call/txt and can't access my settings to try to fix the problem..
Before people tell me to reformat it, I have tried 100 times.. I press volume up + power + home to get to bootloader and tried doing a full reformat as well as wiping the cache partition... Reboot phone the setup screen comes up asking for my name/google account..etc but I can't complete it, it always crashes sayin either "hangouts has stopped working" "setup wizard stopped working" or something about a android.keyguard service.
So next I jumped on Google and read to try the Kies software but I can't for life of me get it to detect my phone.. took awhile but I think I got all the drivers installed.. kies will just say it's connecting to my device but never does. Tried kies 2 and 3 and different cords, I think it's because android isn't even truly fully installed since the setup wizard crashes.. so the MTP capability isn't even there.. under my computer I don't see my phone either like I use to, just a blank drive that has no name and can't be accessed.
So then after more reading I decided to try "ADB sideloading".. I'm a newb is to this stuff so idk if I even did it right but hooked usb up went into bootloader and reformatted/cleared cache then I went to ADB and using cmd on my pc I tried to send a zip of cyanogenmod (got it on xda, suppose to work on galaxy core prime) and it said it was successful but it doesn't do anything.. so idk if it's cuz u can't use custom roms with the stock bootloader? I read about other Rom managers but how am I suppose to install them?
if a stock firmware will work, where can I find one?
Sorry for the wall of text, I'm just stuck here and wanted to add everything I could think of that I tried already.
I dont think it's a physical hardware problem, I think i just screwed some system files up somehow which screwed up the recovery partition..
Extra note:
I am able to use the internet browser though, when the setup gets to the step to link your google, in the top right I can go to "enter browser signin" and then I can bypass the fact there's no search bar by clickin privacy policy and clicking a logo to bring me to Google's homepage.
At this point I don't even care about saving data, what Rom is used or anything. Just wanna be able to text and make calls again.
Forgot to add but using the Google accounts bypass to use the browser I also tried going to google play from there and got the play app to open on my phone but it won't let me install any apps (stuck downloading forever) and will say the app isnt supported on my device even when it should be... tried the android device manager but it cant locate my phone and the reformat option there doesnt work either.

Get a custom recovery (preferably twrp) and then wipe EVERYTHING in the wipe section except your sdcard and then just adb sideload cyanogenmod or any other CUSTOM rom for your phone.
You should just be able to reload the original firmware with Odin. Or Kies will probably work, but you have to use Download Mode to be able to restore it, not while it is booted into the OS.
Thanks for the replies, bit I wish it was as easy as you guys make it sound. Kies isn't working because the MTP driver fails to install on windows no matter what mode I'm in or usb port/cord, no way to access usb settings on phone since I can't get past android setup into the homescreen. Also usb debugging is probably not enabled.. how can I enable that when I can't access settings?
I tried to install TWRP (through adb sideload since can't install anything from store) but when I do "adb devices" nothing is listed.. when I tried it on linux there WAS a device listed though so I did sudo adb sideload twrp.zip from within adb folder and it said it sent it but on my phone it says something about a error verifying it or something then it automatically tries again and says it completed and goes to reboot but it doesn't appear to have worked because there's no sign of it.. is TWRP just suppose to replace the stock bootloader if the sideload is successful? If not how do I access it? Also tried sideloading cyanogen right from the stock bootloader but get the same thing.. says it was sent 100% and phone reboots but there's no sign of it... perhaps I'm doing something wrong?
Argh so frustrating all the time I've wasted trying to fix this. I even completely wiped linux off my pc and installed windows 7 again thinking it was a compatibility problem, but now I think I just went backwards because at least on linux my phone was detected doing "adb devices"...

Yes you have to be in recovery to actually be able to do adb sideload, try adb reboot recovery.
