Hello, and good day everyone!
I can't create a new APN in my phone. I own a samsung galaxay star GT-S5282.
I tried using giffgaff, but when i save the APN that giffgaff made, it isn't there. And I tried doing it manually too. It's not there when i press save.
I tried using APN backup and restore, and when i open the app, it says
"Unfortunately APNs cannot be restored or deleted on this device because android 4.0+ does not allow 3rd party apps to write APN settings."
I already checked the unknown sources in settings>security>unknown sources.
I don't know what to do to create new APN, so i'd appreciate it if someone can help me. Thanks and have a nice day! :good:
EDIT: Btw, I already searched for it. But unfortunately can't find any solutions.

Install system app mover.apk as well as busybox.apk These are also available on Playstore.
Also install APN manager pro.
Run system appmover and turn APN manager pro into a system app.
Run APN manager and adjust/insert APN as you please. You can even delete the default entries and put your own. You are now ready to connect to a network of your own.
Make sure you have the correct modem and have network signal on your phone.
Get in touch in case of any query.
Cheers,
Huseki.

Hi!
first of all Sry for my bad english.
I have a Big Problem with the Paranoid Rom and a second Rom (Dragon ICS v3.3.2) i cant send mms/sms or can use the browser because there are no APN
with root explorer i look in system/etc/apns-conf.xml and there are the Apn's for my carrier.
Settings->Dunno->APN->New then create a new APN accourding to your service provider also doesn't work.
So i dont have any idea whats wrong
Hope someone can help me.
Tried to reboot after a flashing rom? Or restore the apn? The problem is on both rom or only at once?
Inviato dal mio GT-I9100 con Tapatalk 2
There is a work around
You have to click on restore to default and then after the process compleates
restart you phone.
This will get back your GPRS conectivity.

Hello.
Had the same problem last night.
Spend the evening restoring my APN config.
After many reboot, recovery/wipe, etc... the fastest seems to backup your appz, wipe everything you can. rebbot, erase whatever apn you have, check online what they should be (one APN for internet settings, one for MMS settings) and re create them manually. I found 3 different config over the net for my operator. I tried each one and tested both internet and mms each time till I found the right one. Then on ly Restore your appz.
It worked for me. On a boring and painfully evening...
good luck
@Floydfire its on both Roms, reboot afkter flash doesn't work
Restore Apn never completes (wait for over 1h) Will try it later whenn its full loaded again because im on other ROM.
@delestai whenn i erase all apn and insert only from my carrier i cant use the phone anymore because im many times on travel so i need roaming and for this i need the apn from many carriers.
Edit: apn restore works this time all apn set correct.
Internet works.
But when i try to send a sms a error Text Pop up and the umts/3g net goes down
So tryed some other modems none of them works.
Some more tips solusions or anything?
so now i create the apn manuall no changes at all
I'm following the guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1575749 for flashing the evo 3d to page plus from sprint. currently i have the phone rooted with s-off running meanrom. under the instructions it says you need to enter the MSID on the phone and if you don't have it to call your service provider. I called page plus and they say that they can't give me a MSID without the phone being activated on their service. I'm not sure what to do next. Do I give them the new ESN and have the change the service and then will they be able to give me the MSID or is there another method to do this?
Thanks for any help.
Edit: i'm currently on page plus with a old lg 9100 and the phone i'm trying to flash is a sprint phone that has never been activated.
second question: the apn backup and restore app says that APNS cannot be restored or deleted on this device because android 4.0+ does not allow 3rd party apps to write apn settings. what should I do to get this to work. i have the phone rooted with s-off currently running meanrom. should i put a different rom on there?

Have you flashed the page plus prl yet? If so you need to call them and give them your esn number. I believe the msid is for if you want to port your number over first before you call page plus. If you followed the guide to a T up until the apn part. Even though apps won't allow you to write to the apn, its ok because all your gonna do is delete and restore. Put your phone in airplane plane mode. Delete your current apn, click restore apn chose the page plus one. Disable airplane mode and reboot. I hope this helps you.

thanks, for the input. i'm going to try this a little later today.
so just an update for anyone who might stumble onto this thread. I figured out the steps: (Thanks Jsparta26)
After I flashed the prl, I called page plus and they activated the ESN. The MSID was the same as my phone number. Phone still didn't work, so i reflashed the PRL and then the phone was working. I didn't need to delete the APN, it was just working after. Now phone works for calls and 1x data. no MMS yet, got to figure that one out.
thanks for the help.
Your mms is also included in the apn file. Try the delete and restore method to see if works for you

I'm getting the message: Unfortunately APSs cannot be restored or deleted on this device because Android 4.0+ does not allow 3rd party apps to Write APN settings.
The Options in the Program are: Backup APNs, Restore APNs, Delete Backup Files, Delete APNs, and Donate.
Not sure what to do from here.
Ignore the part of backup, delete and restore. I was able to do this with an aosp rom and should work with a sense rom. You just cannot write to the apn file. Make a backup of your original apn, delete the current one, then restore using the page plus apn file and reboot. It should work. If not then manually copy it the apn file with a file explorer into your sdcard and take the page plus file and paste in the original location of the file and reboot. Let me know if that works.COLOR="Silver"]

[/COLOR]Which app are you using? Well if it don't work then I have another solution. Do you happen to know the settings of page plus's apn settings? Also do you know your msl code? If so, then open up your dialer and type ##3282# and punch in your msl code under edit. Once your through click on advanced and scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click on mmsc settings. If you know the settings you can manually input the settings in their correct spots. Once you do that hit commint changes or modifications at the top of the screen and hit reboot

I think I figured it out. In the settings for the program there is an option for "ignore ICS". i selected that and was able to delete and restore. looks like mms is now working, but it still shows 1x data.

yeah, 1x not so good.
Well I am glad that you got mms working. Not sure about the 1x signal, it could be a cell tower issue, not enough cell towers or that page plus's network is low priority. Have you flashed the latest page plus prl?

plenty of cell towers here, so that shouldn't be a problem. i'll try and flash the other prls and see what i get (right now i'm running the one from the main thread included in the rar). in the main thread i think there were problems with people not getting 3g. if i can't solve it with the prls, i'll have to comb through that thread for a solution.
Thanks for your help.

No problem. Just keep this in mind. Check to see if your radios are up to date on page plus's firmware. People used to have that problem when they went flash happy with the vm ruu ics leak back in may and messed up their phones with the dreaded 1x signal. Just something to think about. Good luck.
Hi, so before I go out and purchase a new SIM I was hoping someone could help me. Originally I was trying to alter the MMS port set in my APN because MMS was failing over wifi due to running Adblock. In doing so I somehow managed to erase my Internet APN. I believe it was just set to vzwinternet.
So on my lg g3 I unfortunately have no way to add an APN, it works fine for wifi and calls still but I have no cellular internet at the moment. The only option when going to APN settings is Reset to Defaults, which does nothing as it just shows "No APNs". The mobile networks option is actually greyed out under Settings->Wireless & Networks->More... but I'm able to get to APN Settings still by using an app.
Possible solutions I've thought of, does anyone knows if these are possible?
A) Is there any way to edit my build.prop to allow me to add an APN such as "ril.sales_code=LOL & ro.csc.sales_code=LOL" (I've tried this it doesn't work).
B) Is it possible to re-add it by replacing apns-conf.xml in /system/etc/ ? If that is possible could someone post theirs so I can replace it?
C) Are there any root apps to allow me to add an APN? (from my research there aren't any since android 4.0)
Or am I just going to have to go out and get a new SIM? I've already master reset hoping it was software related and that hasn't helped.
EDIT: Nevermind guys fixed it by doing a reflash back to factory with lg flashtool. Nothing to see here *whistles*
Hi Jab
I met the same issue.
Could you please tell me how to reflash back to factory?
Thank you
You need to root it, and use shortcut master to open APN setting, same case with my US Cellular G3

My Note 3 is activated on the Sprint MVNO Ringplus, so I probably went through more trouble than most to get the leaked Lollipop build up and running. I figured I'd show what I did in case anyone else wanted to do the same as well. I believe SMS is currently not working. This isn't an issue for me because I use Google Voice as my primary number, so my texts go through data instead of traditional SMS.
It would probably be best to do a Profile and PRL update before you begin, as you won't have the option of doing them on the new ROM.
First I made a complete backup followed by a full wipe, and then I flashed g00h's tweaked odex lollipop ROM v.1.1 here.
Next I flashed the bluetooth/wifi fix found in this thread here. Make sure you download version 2 (the file that's 1.83MB).
Next I had to get mobile data working, so I used the APN backup & restore app from the Play store. I used the APN settings listed by jackal830 here. I copied the text, pasted it into an xml file, and placed that file in the APN backup & restore app's folder so that it could restore the Ringplus APN settings. Using the app, I first deleted the current APN settings, and I then restored from the newly created xml file.
The next problem was that my all of my wifi passwords would be forgotten everytime the phone would reboot. I did a quick search and found this post here. Following dajumper's suggestion, I edited the build.prop using Root Explorer, and changed the line from "ro.securestorage.support=true", to "ro.securestorage.support=false". This made my wifi passwords stick on reboot.
After doing all of that, everything is up and running great. I'm really enjoying Samsung's implementation of Lollipop. In order to get this working on Sprint instead of Ringplus, I'd imagine you'd only have to locate a Sprint APN file generated from the APN backup & restore app, and use that instead.
If anyone else has the same setup as me, and wants to give this try, enjoy!

It does not, but like I said, I use Google Voice as my primary number, so it's not an issue for me. I can still send text messages like normal through Google Voice because the messages travel over mobile data instead of SMS.
Aight guess I'll just wait a little more for that to get fixed i need that proper texting but thanks for the info
Which APN backup and restore app are you using? The one I used states it does not restore for anything over 4.0+. That because the OS does not allow for 3rd party apps to change APN.
Never mind figured it out. Will attempt on sprint. But looks like MMS will still be a problem.

I'm using the latest one from the play store. Hit menu, select disable ICS check, close the app and then reopen it. I don't believe it allows you to backup your APN settings on anything higher than 4.0, but it does allow you to restore them. That's why I manually placed my xml file in the folder where the app restores from.

Thanks...Next time I will read the entire writeup . It will allow you to backup and restore. Just had to move the APK to the /system/priv-app and modify the permissions.
How exactly do you edit the secure storage support to true?
Hi, I have a TCL A30 and I am attempting to use visible wireless. The problem is, I can't change my apn settings. I tried to edit the .xml file that contains the apn and but no luck. The file doesn't save. I have tried so many different things and it is the only thing that is preventing me from really being able to use the service. When I use adb to launch the apn setting, the options for mvno are greyed out. It's as if the sim card contains something that forces the os to not let you change any apn settings. I've been working at this for a couple of days and the only thing I am able to use is vzwinternet. I want to be able to use hotspot and high speed data and the only roadblock is these apn settings. There has to be some way to manually configure apn settings that I am overlooking. If anyone has any insight please let me know. It would be greatly appreciated. TCL A30 running android 11 rooted.
