[Q] How durable is the micro usb port? - T-Mobile HTC One (M7)

So coming from the Evo 4g (og not LTE) about a third of my evo's life it was running with no micro usb ability do to the port failing entirerly .
"had to buy a external battery charger and a micro sd reader, but it wasnt that much of a bothersome thing actually prefered it because i had 2 1800mah batteries and a 3500mah so while the 35 was on charge i could use the 2 18's"
My question is, Being as i CANNOT externally charge the battery on the htc one and i cannot externally alter its files. How much more durable is the One's usb port compared to the common to fail Evo's usb port.
id like to know this so i now how delicate i need to be with the port or if i can go slapping it around without worry XD, by that of course i mean if i need to buy a dock for it or if it isnt that big of a problem.
also ive heard the micro usb port also has micro HDMI ability??? ive looked really close at the port and i dont really get how this could be

Yes it has HDMI capability, with an mhl adapter specifically for the phone. In terms of the micro USB, I think its pretty well set in. If you have gotten a hold of this phone already, you know what I mean. It's pretty durable.

Charging Port?

Why would HTC not put a standard micro usb port on this phone? I didn't realize until i had the phone at home or i may not have bought it. I have several useless cables now. Love the phone, Hate the charging port!
Most phones are geared for standard micro USB now. My moto miscro usb charger works on the Rezound, and so pretty much every cable I own does. So your problem is?
I never even tried to use one of my old chargers. the one that comes with the phone has that weird slit and looks totally different. i just assumed that they were different. I will have to try it out.
Havn't gotten my Rezound yet, but if it's anything like the Touch Pro 2. The stock adapter provides 1A of power and has a notch in it to prevent you from using that charger on anything unworthy.
Any Micro USB will work
I have a Touch Pro 2 and it took me 2 years to realize I could use a standard Mini-USB cable with it. I repaired and rebuilt my original USB cable when I could have just used one of the hundreds of regular ones lying around.
Point: I brought a standard micro-usb cable to the VZW store and made sure it worked in the Rezound before I bought it. It fits perfectly.
IMO HTC makes these ports this way so they can sell the HDMI adapter and other accessories and since they hold the patent on the plug shape they wont have any competition and it will be very difficult for hackers to reengineer a standard cable.
I hope this helps,
Dan
Why can people not search? This has been discussed. It is an mhl port. Your microusb chargers will work fine. And to the person who suggested patents, run a Google search. It isn't a proprietary HTC plug. The galaxy s II has the same port. Monoprice sells an adapter for $10. It is easy for companies to make 3rd party cables.

IMHO this MHL situation ROCKS. Micro USB is so fragile. In fact, my wife's DINC's port is all slutted out and barely works anymore. This MHL connector is longer and tougher than Micro USB and you get a solid 'click' when you insert the connector. Seems much more solid and reliable than any other design I've seen yet. Backwards compat with Micro USB is just icing.

AC adapter reports as Charging (USB)

I've done some searching but couldn't find an answer to this. No matter what charger or cord I use (including stock) my Rezound reports as charging over USB. I noticed it after updating to the 2.01... OTA. Has anybody seen this before or have any ideas how to fix? I'll also note my Inc never had a problem with any of the chargers I have.

I have been through a handful of different types of wall chargers that claim "5v. 1A output" and ONLY the official HTC wall charger has worked for me: http://shop.htcpedia.com/htc-u250-wall-adapter-usa.html
Do NOT buy the ones on ebay... they are fake and DO NOT WORK.
I've had a handful of ebay chargers pump out "AC Charging" but never more than 200ma, even though they look legit... the ones i bought from htcpedia (2 so far) have been flawless just like the one that came with it.
The issue is that even the official one that comes with the phone reports as USB charging.

Oh wow, ok then I agree you got a problem... sadly I'm unaware of a fix... hoping someone else comes along and knows!
Originally I assumed it was the charger because the first time I noticed I wasn't using the official charger, though my Incredible never had a problem with it. Then when I got home, same thing with the official charger. I may see if an RUU fixes it when I get home tonight.

I will say this, I have a 2 amp charger, that will charge the bionic at 1.5 ah, but for some reason all of my HTC devices only charge at between .25 ah, and .5 ah. This is using an Evo View, TB, and Rezound. Not one of them will charge faster. So I think it has something to do with how HTC's recognize whether or not it is USB charging. So I wouldn't say all the ebay/amazon ones are junk, they just don't work with our phones.
The plot thickens. Went to lock the bootloader and run the ruu and it isn't being recognized by the pc when plugged into the USB port.

Sent from my Dinc... I mean Rezound
Yup has to be 1A an hour for the Rezzy.
I stopped by the local Verizon store today and played dumb since I'm unable to RUU and relock the bootloader and said I noticed it after the update. Since I recently got the phone it isn't too far fetched that I just updated. The Verizon rep said it was probably the update that caused the USB menu not to pop up and to use the settings menu to select disk drive. I'l just play along and stop by later saying it still isn't working. I am a little nervous about it though considering I have Amon RA and an unlocked bootloader and can't fix it without being able to connect to a pc.
Are you using the same cable for all of this? A bad cable (open data line) would cause everything you describe.
I've used multiple cables and tested against my old Incredible which works fine with all of them.

You can ruu by using an micro sd adapter to put the files on the sd card

Drop the RUU into dropbox and then download it to your phone via dropbox and flash.
I had this happen on my droid incredible 2. The usb charge port was loose inside the phone. I ended replacing the port on the phone and now it shows charging as AC with the same charger as before. I was using the stock charger as well. I suspect with your phone the connector inside the phone has come a little loose. The USB type will charge fine just at a slower rate from what I saw with my phone.

i'd say it would be easier to take some needle nose pliers & stretch out the tip of the usb cable

Sorry I don't know of a way to tightening it without replacing the whole port. You may want to bring it in to Verizon if the port is loose.

[Q] charging port problems?

Hey guys! I am loving this phone....did not know how much I would love it!! Anyways, I just wanted to check with other LTEvo owners and see if I'm the only one with this issue. I have had a lot of charging issues with the evo 4g in the past, so I'm not too happy with this and wanted to see if others are experiencing this issue.
I noticed that if I charge my phone laying on a flat service ( like the carpet, or counter) where the cord is not left hanging, it will not charge. I've been thinking of returning it for a new one if no one else has this issue. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
I am not have any problems at all.. I would return it.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
I haven't had any issues...are you sure it's the phone and not just the cable? If it happens with multiple cables it's most likely the charging port. It's much easier to replace a cable though so I'd make sure to eliminate that as the possible problem first.
What cable are you using? I've went through several monoprice cables because of this. I'm now using cables from amazon basics, so far so good. I don't use stock because they are too short
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
Yea I would check multiple cords and see if it's the cord you're using or the charger port. I had an issue with my Evo 4g where the port was physically separated from the motherboard, and I had to rely on external batteries and a battery charger to use my phone. I hope this issue doesn't crop up with the 4g LTE.
If it's the port, return that shiz and get a new one.

Micro usb cord question.

So I migrated from the original epic 4g to the galaxy s iii. And I have been using the epics micro usb charge cable since I got the phone. Today I opened up the galaxy s 3 charger and cable to leave in my front room and noticed that it is has a significantly bigger molding and what not. Everyone in the epic forum's use to rag on the epics cable also as it being very poor quality, although I never experienced any issues. Question : is there any difference in the two cords? Are any pins changed around? Because it took forever to charge my og epic.

Any general micro usb cord should work. The only pin layout that changed the the mhl adapter, but that's a different story.

Nope, you'll be alright. I'm using my old Atrix 2 cord myself....well, I was until I realized the Samsung one was longer. But you'll be fine.

Yea, that cord is monstrously long..nearly 4ft...I have 2 now, since i bricked my first one. lol.
Thanks guys... I didn't think there was a difference but having some reassurance is always nice.

I think the actual plug part of the micro usb is a little longer than some of my other cords though - I was not having good luck getting a reliable connection to my laptop with my old cords. It would connect for a few seconds and then drop, it would hang after copying a large file, etc etc. I brought the new cable that came with the phone and it connected right up. It seems to me that the port is a little further recessed than the old one. If you're not getting a good connection - try the cable that came with the phone or a cable with a longer male end...
Thanks for this question. Ive got a few micro usb cables lying around. And ive been to scared to use anything but the samsung. Really terrified anything will happen to it. I assume it'll be fine then to use my old nokia and bb micro usb cables then?
Thanks.

Tips on charging port replacement.

Hey there xda'ers!
I just picked up a Titan 4G for $30  I always wanted one, I'm using an S3 right now and I plan on switching back and forth at my leisure.
The problem with the Titan is the charger port is VERY finicky. You have to really push the micro USB in and get it in just right for it to charge.
I found replacement ones on eBay for around $7ish. Has anyone replaced one before? Do you guys have any tips?
Thanks to all in advance!
Anyone?

have you checked there's no fluff in the original one? mine sometimes looks like it's charging, (ie light comes on red), but never gets charged. this usually means there's fluff inside the usb port and a good hard blow, (pardon the expression), sorts it out...

Sadly, the previous owner must have forced a mini usb into the jack or something, since all the pins are bent in. Or, it may have been dropped on the charger port while plugged in. All in all, the phone is in great shape for what I paid for it, as I always had a fascination with WP7.
I got a quote for $60-$70 to have the new USB port installed since it has to be soldered.
Even still, I plan on keeping it and ordering a back up battery charger from eBay since the phone is easily a 8/10 condition wise and I have already unlocked it :good:
