CPU h/w : MT6577
CPU Model : Dual core ARMv7 Processor(VFPv3,NEON)
CPU Frequency: 250.25 ~ 1001.0 MHz
Above specifications i have taken by using Antutu benchmark for my tablet

Use motochopper method. It works for multiple mediatek devices.
Sent from my GT-I9505G Samsung S4 Google Edition. Just Kidding!
And you could press the thanks button if I helped.

Hey dude it didn't work. Motochopper was able to install only superuser but was unable to root. I wasn't able to give root access to root uninstaller so i verified using root verifier and it showed that device is not rooted.

I even tried MTK root toolkit which roots chinese phone of MT series but it also couldn't root my tabet. I have read that this tool kit currently doesn't support anything higher than jellybean 4.1.

Did you try using http://www.unlockroot.com/ ? It says here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43037172#post43037172 .

I can help, you will need to use SP Flash tool to pull your phones stock recovery and copy it to pc. Then you can either use MTK droid tools to unpack the stock recovery and repack it into a custom recovery that will allow you to flash a root.zip OR I can use android kitchen to repack the recovery for you.
Let me know which way you want to proceed, I can either help you do it or I can give you the directions to do it.
You can also try looking at my previous posts, specifically the post about the Z3Z6Z7 phone (MTK6575 processor), I found a Chinese root program that rooted my MTK6575 in like 30 secs, and this was after I ran every root method I could find and they all failed except the Chinese root method. Link to the post and download link is here:

Hope this helps! If you need any help or advice feel free to shoot me a PM. Good luck!

***FIRST*** Very Important!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Use MTK Droid Tools to make a backup of your stock rom, some of these MTK devices are very hard to find stock firmware for floating around on the net so it is better to be safe rather than sorry later, I would suggest making at least 3 back ups just to be sure you have them and BEFORE you start modifying the recovery or any other part of the system now that you are rooted. This back up made by MTK Droid Tools saved my butt on that Z3Z6Z7, if not for a back up I would have a soft bricked phone with no way to recover!
Ok, so the chinese root program worked for you? You will need to go back and download SuperSU from the Play Store to replace the chinese superuser app the program installs preferably.
Then for SP flash tool, what processor does your device have? The directions for pulling files from a MTK device varies with each platform, I.E. MT6515, MT6573, MT6575, MT6577, and MT6589 so I would need to know which processor you have to give you correct directions. Now that you are rooted you may not need the recovery unless you want it to perform a back up of your stock system, which you can also do with MTK DroidTools
Hope this helps, if so hit my thanks button please!

Yes, I will make the backups, only problem being i would need to read a lot more about it before i implement anything (now that i am root).
Yes, the chinese program worked. How do i replace the chinese app with supersu ? Just double tap supersu in that chinese menu ?
I have MT6577 as my processor..I think I will take the recovery I want to perform a backup of the stock system as well. Just in case..
You are too kind. thanks!

Making a back up with MTK Droid Tools backs up all parts of your stock system, it can also be flashed back to the phone with Sp Flashtool if ever need be.
If you need a hand making back ups I can help you either by giving directions or by having you download and install Teamviewer on your Pc, this will allow me to connect to your Pc and show you how to make back ups. It is pretty simple though, you would just need to connect phone to PC then run the MTK Droid Tools program, then the left side of programs box will populate with info about your phone and you will see at top of screen 2 tabs, one (Current tab) say Phone information, then the second says Root, backup, recovery. Select the second tab then click the big back up button, if the button is not lit up then you will need to click the root button at bottom right side of box to allow ADB shell su permissions to it can pull system files in the back up. (which also happens to contain your stock recovery so no need to use SP flash tool to get it :good: )
Also, have a look at this thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1825722
The great Master Shifu Yuweng has taught me very very much about these MT65XX devices and most of what I learned about MTK devices came from this thread, the rest from Master Yuweng directly! (Thanks again Yuweng!)
To change to SuperSU just go to Play Store (or Market depending on which is on the device, my MT6575 had Market then I opened it first time and it changed to Play) and search for and download SuperSU, then when it asks to install binary when you open SuperSU just say yes, then normal install, when the chinese superuser prompt up comes up hit the right button and you will then get prompts from the english SuperSU any future root requests from apps after that.
Hope this helps!

Okay, superSU works like a charm. Now I just need to make a few backups of the device and flash the backup once to confirm everything works.

Thank You
Thank you very very much for providing the link. Tablet got rooted within 30 sec.:good::angel:

No problem guys, glad I could help! :good::good::good: IF either of you need help making a recovery that you can use to make back ups let me know. To use the flash tool to flash the back up back to the phone, you just need to connect the phone to pc with battery removed usually for most MT6577 devices after hitting download button in SP flash tool and the back up will be downloaded onto the device.
Hope this helps!

Okay! so a few doubts,
1. I have a tablet which I can't really open. So yeah. removing the battery is out.
2. My android recovery (factory-builtin) comes up when i press power+volume buttons and shows the option of updating from the sdcard. Can I use that for flashing instead of SP Flash ? (just copy contents to the SD card and update from there?)

No need to doubt me, I wont steer you wrong mate!
1) Lol, yes then in your case it is kind of hard to remove battery so skip that part.
2) as far as I know, you can not use stock recovery to flash the firmware file, you will need to use SP FlashTool or a custom recovery. Here are directions on how to use SP Flash Tool:
http://bm-smartphone-reviews.blogspot.com/2012/05/mt6575-flashing-tutorial.html
Then to get the SP Flash tool go here:
http://www.4shared.com/folder/Q_MYd0k_/MT65xx_Tools.html
If you need a password to access these files, The password to login is "bm-smartphone-reviews.blogspot.com" (No quotes). Have fun.
However when you make the back up with MTK Droid Tools it also makes a backup in zip format that is able to be flashed through recovery once you make your stock recovery into a custom one that will allow you to flash zip files that are not "officially" signed, the stock recovery will only allow signed zips to be flashed so you need to a custom recovery to flash your back up files to phone via recovery.
Good luck!

You will need to make your own recovery, if you want to upload your stock recovery on here, I can unpack and repack for you to make it into a custom recovery, either CWM or TWRP based. If you are thinking of using Rom Manager to install a custom recovery I would not suggest doing that unless it specifically shows your devices model number in the list of devices before you try to flash it through Rom Manager...

Sure Man if i will need to make recovery/custom rom i would definitely give you trouble. Can you tell me
1. how can i upgrade to 4.2 jellybean as i don't see anything like windows cd or online update for android OS ? Even in 'about' info there is no option to update and on iball website no updates are available for jellybean 4.1.2 for my tablet ?
2. where are the wallpapers stored in tablet ?

this method and the 993D has stopped working after a kernel upgrade, try this this way, if the last time out, then and now should.
Sorry for translate.google
1. download the utility View attachment unlockbootloader.rar
2. Unzip to your C drive
3. Run and choose unlockbootloader.exe ROOT Your Background
4. Wait for all operations. Console appears that self-close after the completion of the process of obtaining mouth
5. Download and install SuperSU

As I can see from your other posts you rooted the 997D with the Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v15 solution. After that you did the system firmware update and you don't have root anymore?
I also updated the firmware of my 997D through my phone settings/about phone/system updates/check for update and after that I first tried to root my phone with the Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v15 utility and it didn't work.
Is there any way to rollback our firmware?

Before running unlockbootloader try to disable antivirus, and run as administrator.

i'm pretty sure the update is preventing the root. Badluck for us then? i know a bit of android, but i'm no developer so i can't make a rootfix by my own
Anyone here has some knowledge to get our nice device rooted?

The root is not working with that tool
SuperOneClick: Step #7 .. after that, freeze
same here, tried both superoneclick and the binary root, both don't work anymore.
Nice move from alcatel to fix root in an update, if i only knew this before i updated
Also tried Unlockroot 3.0 (which was updated recently) but it doesn't work
ok, found this out, when you shut down the phone, press volume up + power button, phone starts in android recovery mode 3e, any possible chance to get the phone rooted this way?
c'mon guy's i want this phone rooted, getting resolution problems with games (software buttons of ics hide some of the screen) can't start some gps apps because of this stupid software buttons)
anyone dare to try this: http://www.mediafire.com/view/?ldao6p9eyjuu1f9
I'm prepared to even pay for a working root, so if anyone has found a way, pls contact me at pm
Any news on this subject? I love the phone, but I miss the SetCPU profiles I used on my previous phone, and a battery meter with percentage...
Nothing yet, I have tried every available method soc,unlockroot,bin4ary etc and nothing works after the firmware update.
Is there anyone who hasn't done the firmware update and can root his phone? If yes please do a factory reset and take a backup of his ROM and upload.
I guess our best bet would be a port of CWM recovery. Maybe I'll backup the stock recovery and use the CWM recovery builder this evening if I have the time

I'll reply to myself: no way, since you need to be rooted in order to dump the stock recovery. Maybe if someone could try to extract the OTA update so we could examine the files and look if the recovery.img is there...
---------- Post added at 03:45 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:46 PM ----------
Ok, I have managed to get something.
Following this tutorial by Bruno Martins (a well known rom cooker who's also a user here) I've been able to dump recovery.img from my Alcatel OT-997D: http://bm-smartphone-reviews.blogspot.com.es/2012/04/creating-rom-dump-of-your-mt65x3-device.html
The tutotial was meant for MT6513 and MT6573 devices, but looks like it works on MT6577 too.
Then, I've used that file with the Clockworkmod recovery builder at http://builder.clockworkmod.com/ and now I have another recovery image, which is supposed to be a CWM port for our Alcatel.
I'm still unsure to flash that recovery, since I can't be sure it will work. Mediatek based phones do not have a fastboot mode, so it's impossible to just try a recovery image without actually flashing it. In fastboot mode, you can boot the phone into a custom recovery without actually flashing it, so you risk nothing if it doesn't work
In case someone daring enough wants to try my custom recovery, I've uploaded it to my Mediafire account: http://www.mediafire.com/?7232aj7jhg7l4e5
The idea is that, with a working CWM recovery, it should be possible to flash Chainfire's SuperSU root zip and easily root the phone.
Of course I warn you this could ruin the recovery image on your phone, so don't risk doing it if you're not sure.

No ,i have`nt try any customize ROM.I just Rooted my phone with SuperOneClick.
If anyone is interested, on cacofonix3's request I have build an *experimental* and *untested* recovery and ROM for the A800 based on the P700i_ROW_S107
(the S107 hints it is probably pretty much the same as the Russian one mentioned above)
Warning:
- I do not have this phone, so I am not sure if it is a working ROM, I cannot test myself. It either works, or it does not.
- If you never done flashing before, don't try this, leave it to the experienced people to test first.
- Make sure you have the original ROM to go back to, like this one.
- Never flash preloader / uboot / mbr / ebr
- A800 has different partition table. Never use a scatter file for a different ROM.
Advise:
- First flash the recovery using the v3.1238 flash tool, and see if that works
- Put the ROM on the SD card
- Next boot into recovery and use that to flash the ROM.
- Also advised to wipe cache and data after flashing
- I do not have this phone, so I am not sure if it is a working ROM, I cannot test myself
Info:
The ROM is essentially the one described here, but with a800 kernel/modules/firmware and also a v0.01 marker to clearly indicate 'beta'.
The A800 is pretty similar as the P700i, except higher resolution, one button less, uses the MT6577T rather than MT6577, and I suspect uses the MT6628 rather than MT6620 radio subdie. As a result, when flashing this ROM, one of the following may happen:
- It does not work at all : solution flash factory ROM again
- GSM may not work : solution flash factory ROM again. OR: The GPS may work and also pick up Galileo...
- GPS/Wifi/BT may not work : we may work around this by swapping out some libraries. Or: The GPS may work and also pick up Galileo...
- Icons may appear smaller : should be OK, as it is a bigger schreen.
- 4th button is missing: Use buttonsavior as workaround for the recent apps button.
ROM and recovery can be downloaded here. Flash tool and USB driver from here
Ok, given that i receive no feedback, neither positive nor negative, but it is a rather untested and experimental ROM, I removed the download again.

Getting SP flash tool error 8038.
You will have to show some screen shots to show exactly what you are doing, and where you get the error. Also, which version of the flash tool are you using.
Hey cybermaus,

hey i wanna know how did you flash it ? cause there is no install from zip card in the recovery
Not sure what you mean with 'flash tool drivers': the VCOM drivers are the ones you need. Also I know nothing about missing DLL.
hey thanks cybermaus i did it! just followed your blog, but the rom is so slow the i dowloaded the A800_RUS_S107, what other roms can i use?
I cant reinstall the official ROM, so then ROOT and then install cybermaus' ROM.
The factory ROM is dead. I can't see the apps, anything, only system settings. When I made a factory reset it says the following:
Factory Mode

Item Test

Clear eMMC

Theres no root access as of yet, keep checking google.
I've pulled the boot.img and recover.img from this fone and using flash tool and altered the files for root but cannot download them back again believe there's a problem with the scatter file. Think this is a alcatel thing shouldnt be to difficult though as the chipset is a mtk6575 already done my mtk6577 China fone with the same method and that went very well.

This fone seems to be a China fone underneath when rooted the same Apps appear root browser and uncle mobile. The 1ghz prozzy single core ain't to bad does most things and the 2 and a half gb internal means it doesn't run low on space to quickly. The jelly bean 4.1.1 build seems quite solid. I think this is what the smart ii should have been. The 4" screen is clear and the fone is surprisingly slim, slimmer than the smart ii, hmmm shiny....ahhh and if you got a spare 2000 vodafone freebee points you can get it half price

Any chance you could spell out exactly the steps required to root it? That'd be great. I'd love to root and get rid of some of the Vodafone crap if possible.

For what it's worth the phone is made by TCL - search for them on Wikipedia.
Also for what it's worth I managed to unlock mine for use on another non Vodafone network. I could only find one service that could unlock them at the moment. If you google you should find it. I can't post links as I am new here.
My initial impressions are also positive. Seems pretty stable, functional and responsive so far. Pity the screen isn't IPS but otherwise it compares very favourably with my Huawei G300 for example.
Just bought this phone in Hungary from Vodafone. I would like to know how can we root it, how can we rollback to factory state, install Cwm and so on. So this is the reason I joined the thread.

There is a tutorial for rooting mt/mtk chipsets from Chrizzly92 here (search for this post on xda)=(STAR N9770 DUAL CORE MT6577-ulefone N9770. - Page 132 - xda-developers) (soz cant post links yet) explains about rooting mt6577 but 6575 is same method but you may need 6575 drivers and use a newer version of sp flash tool, I used version v3.1304.0.119. Basically your pulling your own boot and recovery (plus android.img but this a safety measure) images from your phone and making a modified version with root that you then push back to the phone, the original stock images are stored on your pc in case you would like tom restore your phone as well as the new rooted images just flash the imgs you'd like to use. Make sure Vcom drivers are installed before you connect your phone though, as when you plug your phone into the usb while it is switched off the phone will only connect up briefly and then disconnect again if there is no activity, which means that if you try and install the drivers using the connect your phone to the usb method the phone disconnects to quickly. You should only attempt this if you have some knowledge of this sort of rooting.

We'll need to find the lines bootimg, recovery and Android. We'll need to write down Start-adress(Scatter) and the Size for every line.
(i made a screenshot, writing down isn't necessary.)
In MY Case, this is:

recovery: 01588000 size: 00600000
Android: 026E8000 size: 31900000
6. Now we'll need to click on "Create Scatter File" and you can save it as "MT6577_Android_scatter_emmc.txt"

Guess not after all,
Getting stuck in mtktools "Recovery and Boot"... I select recovery file, say no CWR, select boot.img and then I get "--- ERROR :Boot unthe public mailing list [email protected]" and " --- task is complete ---"
The files have exactly the same modified date so I guess nothing gets written.
Anyone with the same error? Does MTKDroidTools needs Cygwin and if so, what packages?
Thanks to all
If you have pulled the boot and recovery images from your fone and have selected and modded them then when you reflash them back you need to select and change the stock images for the ones stored in the recovery folder in mtkdroid tools, the scatter file should read 6575 as this is the scatter read from the fone. Also if you have the wrong drivers or they are not installed properly you will get errors.

Sorry, but I can't explain it more understandable like in the OP of the linked thread. You have to save your phone's partitions informations into the mentioned scatter file, because you'll have to use that saved scatter file later in the tutorial.

[Guide] Backup, and Root ANY MediaTek phone or tablet (MT6575, MT6577, MT6589, etc..)

** Why to create backup **
So the main reason I am making this tread is that there are soo many phones out there with MediaTek chips and a very few of these phones maybe just 5% of them have a STOCK ROM uploaded somewhere online for you guys to download and unbrick your soft bricked phone, after trying to do God knows what with it.. Also there is a lot of confusion between models on the market, since there are many of these Chinese phones with the same model name, maybe they even look the same but they do have different hardware inside. So when you install ROM "for your model" you can get soprised that the phone just won't start.. you might even hard-brick it, and then you can safelly throw your phone in garbage..
And since even rooting your phone can get it bricked also, the safest way to go is to backup your STOCK ROM before trying to do anything..
** How to create backup **
Here is detailed explanation on how to create STOCK backup for ANY MediaTek phone or tablet: http://blog.morrison.nl/how-to-backup-and-install-cwm-on-your-no-1-mini-pad-rom/
P.S. I suggest using "MTK Droid Root and Tools" version 2.4.3 becouse that version worked just fine for my MT6589 device with Android 4.2.1, probably it will work for other chip versions too..
You can see in that tutorial that they have said that you should copy the hex code after the cache image ( http://blog.morrison.nl/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/Capture9.png ), but on that way you will not get userdata and chace from your phone, and it is recomended that you get that too.. Soo take the code after "NODL_EMTPOOL" or if that can't go, use the code after "NODL_FAT"..
After you are done with that tutorial you will have STOCK backup of your ROM, and you will have ClockWorkMod recovery installed on your phone..
But even after that, I recomend you that you create backup with "MTK Droid Root and Tools" as well as with the CWM Recovery...just in case..
** Rooting process **
Well, I am sure that you will all easily find one click solution for rooting your phones as soon as you google it with your Android version and chip model.. But still, here are some suggestions:
* MT6575/MT6577 devices with ICS
Just use MTK Droid Root and Tools that you have used for backing up your ROM.
* MT6575/MT6577 devices with Jelly Bean
These phones used to be tricky to root since you used to port CWM recovery for your ROM, but now after you backup your rom and install automated ClockWorkMod recovery created by "MTK Droid Root and Tools", all you need to do is copy this file: Root_Superuser_3.1.3_Busybox_1.20.2-Update1-signed.zip on your SD card, get into CWM Recovery and install the ZIP.. Rooting Done!
* MT6589 devices with Jelly Bean

Maybe yes if someone has created ROM specificlly for your model.. but very often if you are beginer things might get complicated, so first backup your cellphone in the way I have described in this thread, and onlly then you can go arround and try out some custom made stuff..
After you back up your phone, there is this cool thing called GravityBox developed only for MT6589 Android 4.2.1 users, but I think that new releases are compatible with Android 4.1 too.. I honestly think that is better then any custom ROM..

Emrah.

FYI - You need to be rooted to use back up option in MTK Droid Tools unless your device has an insecure kernel by default. Otherwise the back up button will be greyed out in root, backup, & recovery tab
Also, you might to give credit for MTK droid tools to @rua1 in your first post, he is guy that made MTK Droid Tools and he also gave a full set of instructions on how to use his tool here:

Before using MTK root and tools backup it is required to have rooted phone and it is possible to be done using the smart phone flash tool for getting the image out of phone, after that load the image into mtk droid root and tools and "extract it" during "extraction" mtk droid root and tools will ask you if you would like to create CWM recovery image.. click YES, after that using CWM recovery you can root your phone in no time.

Lol, I am very familiar with using MTK, I was taught by the great Rua1 himself and Master Yuweng . I know full well how to use SPFT to pull images from device as well as how to use MTK. I was pointing out that you stated numerous times that you should make a back up before trying a root method. This is simply not possible without root or an insecure kernel. :good:
Also - I did not say you were taking credit for Rua1's tool, I was just pointing out that is is pretty standard practice on XDA to give credit to the proper person when you post their tools.

I am sorry, but I might have miss understood you.. Are you trying to say that it is impossible to get image out of the phone with SPFT without the root? Because by "creating a backup" I meant on that. And that is possible, at least it worked for me on 3 phones so far.
About the credit thing, noted, I'll edit my first post.

Hi,
Sorry for any confusion on that part, Yes you can pull files from phone using SPFT without being rooted. But in order to use MTK DT to make a back up the device needs to either be rooted or at least have an insecure kernel to use the back up function in MTK DT.
By following your directions above to pull the stock recovery img with SPFT then use MTK DT to port a CWM based recovery that is compatible with your specific device and flashing it to your device first then allows you to root very easily by flashing a superuser.zip (or superSU.zip). I remember the days of having to use unpack and repack scripts with plug ins in the android kitchen to port CWM or TWRP to these MTK devices but Rua1 made it quite simple by adding these functions into MTK so it does all the work for you on the most part now. Or were you meaning pull the stock boot.img and have MTK use it to make an insecure boot.img and flash that to phone, as it allows you to use back up function?
Thanks!
*EDIT* You were perhaps meaning use SPFT to pull a complete back up from phone first, before rooting? That is possible without root, you just cant use back up function in MTK DT without root

This thread can help you to backup your current firmware or root the same, also to restore the firmware you have backed up using methods described in this thread.. I can't help you if you do not have original firmware mate. Sorry.
Now you should remember to always use this thread to back up your stuff before updating.. but then again you said ht desire, if you meant htc desire 310, then htc should have original firmware all arround the net.. hah
If no success try this:
Step 1. To exclude the possibility of conflicts from 3rd party applications, please try restarting your phone by press and hold the "POWER" button > choose "Restart" in Phone options pop up window.
Step 2. Try stopping any newly installed applications that might be running on the device.
If no success try this: http://www.htc.com/hk-en/contact/email/

Hey,
so does anyone know how to root this device? Received it yesterday and am waiting for root since most of the Apps I am using require it.

Ok, then I suggest you try Megthebest's TWRP method from here:

Ah, I'd have to reset my whole settings, widgets, etc., then. Don't feel like it. I think I'll wait for Kingroot to update. Thanks anyways!

I don't think so... (Or am I missing something???)
All you need to do is install PC drivers, flash TWRP as your recovery.img (=system, data and other user images are unaffected) and then just flash root using SuperSU .zip.
Can't see that there is a need to do any resets or wipes to get it working, nor should you flash over any of your personal settings.
Recommend you check with Megthebest, he's a user and has another thread on the Ulefone Power here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/ulefone-power-real-reviews-discussion-t3300315
There might be other rooting tips there too.

Recommend you check with Megthebest, he's a user and has another thread on the Ulefone Power here:

There might be other rooting tips there too.

Has anyone tried using fastboot on this device?
You can boot into fastboot by holding volume up and power. Then volume up to select fastboot and volume down to select the option (weir but it works).
I was able to use "fastboot flashing unlock" to successfully unlock the device. You can also see what is available by using "fastboot OEM?" command.
I did not want to flash anything on the phone and wanted to just boot TWRP for the device using "fastboot boot <image file name>" but it failed to boot. I think the boot command has been changed since and now needs memory locations.
I have tried "fastboot flash recovery <file name>" and it flashed successfully but trying to go into recovery still gives the stock recovery. I'm not sure what really flashed and where.
This is a great phone ! Just hope to find root !
