I use my Galaxy S3 (VRBMD3) as a GPS logger on battery. What if I have to have the screen stay off? Right now I'm having trouble with it coming back on in my pack. I have a Samsung flip cover. I don't know what triggers it. If I have to modify some code to disable the power button turning the display back on, I could handle that, but I don't know if that is triggering it.
I also don't want the screen to come on when a charger is plugged/unplugged or when it completes charging.

I know it's something to do with the dock, but I don't know what service I can freeze to stop this behavior. If I've rebooted the phone and used it for whatever length of time, it will go to sleep at the time I've set for the screen to go off. If I plug it into the dock, the clock comes on as expected. If I then remove it from the dock, it won't go to sleep. The screen will dim but only remain dimmed.
I've tried to use TiBackup to freeze whatever says dock, but it doesn't seem to work. Anyone know how to stop this?
I'm looking for a possible app that can automatically lock the phone regardless of what it is doing. I use the MHL to HDMI cable to output to my tv when I'm in bed and I like to watch shows to put me to sleep.
The thing is when the cable is plugged in, the phone's screen never turns off because it would turn off the tv display as well. The display just goes dim when it's idle. I can manually lock it and it will shut off, but I would like something that can send a lock command or a power off command after a certain amount of time, sorta like a sleep mode.
I don't like having my phone screen's stay on until morning even though it's staying fully charged. It's usually pretty warm when I wake up. Is there any way this can be done?
Maybe it could be done with tasker? https://market.android.com/details?id=net.dinglisch.android.taskerm&feature=search_result
I gave it a try and it seems like a really nice app, but I couldn't find a way to command it to lock or turn off the phone. There were 2 options I saw called "lock" and "system lock" and I tried both but nothing happened when the specified event occurred.
I'm tempted to try the HDMI on my Galaxy Tab 10.1, but I'm thinking it would remain on as well if plugged in. Thanks for the suggestion though.
so when ever the tab is fully charged the screen turns on and wont go of until i click the lock button.
i don't have power savings mode. timeout is set to one min. and no auto adjust screen power. 3.2 stock rom
i cant find any settings to adjust this specifically so i don't know what this is. i just don't like the idea of the tab sitting for hours with screen on
EDIT: also noticed that if i put to charge screen wont go of, just fades after the 1 min timeout. i must manually turn it of. i.e push lock button
Hi.
I haven't noticed anything like that when I have been using stock Rom...
If you put tablet to charge did the big-clock screensaver shows up?
If so, you must press back on the bottom tab to let it go away and then it wil fade out and turn off the screen after timeout you have set up in settings...
The only time when screen goes on after charging and stay in that state is when charging with Tablet switched off {big battery charging indicator show up...}...
is it the lock screen your talking about, if so then yes. tab is put to charge and locked. then when full it makes a sound then shows lock screen and fades a bit after some time, but doesn't turn of. screen is of until fully charged. then turns on.
Hmm... this doesn't seems to be normal. On my tab, when fully charged it just make a sound and doesn't unlock or light up the screen...
Which country are you from and what ROM are you using? This might be an unwanted "feature" of branded ROM from some operator/provider...
Maybe if you are planning to Root and give your Tab some nice new ROM from here, your problems will be solved...
im planing on rooting as soon as CM9 is done. im in norway. we dont have operators/providers screwing up our phones like in the states.
My usb-jack is broken so every few seconds the car mode activates and deactivates right away. It is very annoying because it turns the display on and drains my battery. I dont want to repair it because it is an old galaxy s3 and i will buy a new phone in near future. i found apps that prevent the green car mode screen to pop up but a black screen still pops up. Is there a way to uninstall/deactivate car mode completely?
I use LineageOS 14.1 on my rootet i9300
So I've noticed when using smart view to cast to a TV screen, the phone screen will turn to a low power mode, that says smart view, press power or swipe to turn on. My concern is that this image causes image persistence once smart view is done, and could eventually lead to burn in. Does anyone know if this screen moves, like the Always on Display images do; or if there is a way to disable this screen without disabling the screen staying potentially awake the whole time. It may not be possible, but I wanted to see if anyone had any experience. The only possible workaround I've come up with is to use the android native casting feature (via nova and a widgets activity) and perhaps the following app.

I'm finding that mine doesn't always enter the power saving while mirroring which I wish it would when I want it to. If I turn the screen off while mirroring, then ask Google voice to play next song or something the screen mirroring wakes up and display on the external screen and puts the power save mode on the phone which is what I'd expect.
I wish mine did this without having to turn the screen off and the wake it up with voice. If I wake it up with the power button then screen mirror comes on b I t so does the normal screen on the phone.
Maybe we can swap ha ha.
Anyone else not getting the power save option when mirroring? I need to turn the screen off then ask Google to do something for the power save to work. Turning the screen back on doesn't help, just asking Google voice seems to bring it back. I was hoping it would just time out and start automatically. Samsung don't seem to understand their own options, with them telling me that it's not possible until I pointed out it's a software feature if their phone then they went silent.
