Disable Capacitive buttons - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Anyone find a way to disable the buttons yet? I found two downloads a few weeks ago, but foolishly deleted them. So now I have LQS2.8 running with them disabled, but can't upgrade to another rom.

I have seen this ability in Hyper rom, Jelly Beans, and Clean rom. In hyper rom It's under system settings -> my device -> display -> touch key light duration (under more settings section) -> and finally select "always off"
If this is helpful please say thanks! :good:

Are you running a Galaxy S2?
If so, this is not the right thread.
If not, take a look inside some of the original android dev section of the forum and check out some of the ROMs in there. Most or all that I have seen allow you to reprogram or turn off them pesky buttons and use the on screen navbar...
Do a little research, you might be impressed with your effort...
Or you can always Google it on Bing...!

This is a modified sec_touchkey.kl file. This will disable the back and menu capacitive buttons, while not changing the behavior of the home button. Push this file to /system/usr/keylayout.
If you want to use the on-screen softkeys, add "qemu.hw.mainkeys=0" to the end of your build.prop file located in /system.

[Q] Sense 4 Rom and soft key lights

Hello all. Major lurker just not a poster here.
Is there any way to turn off the soft key lights on any of the Sense 4 ROM's? I've been running lllboredlll's Sense 4 ROM and I really love it but there doesn't seem to be a way to turn off the softkey lights. I use the phone as my clock at night and the lights from the soft keys are pretty dang bright.
After looking through the "tweaks" included in the other Sense 4 ROM's it doesn't seem to include any way to turn them off.
I've even tried Screen Filter which has a setting to turn them off but it doesn't support all devices.....like this one.
Any help would be appreciated.
PS. I would have posted this in the ROM's section but I lack the required post count
I'm guessing that if it's not in Bored's tweaks yet it will probably be incorporated soon. I flash so many roms its hard to remember but I think on Joel's evita I used the option to dim the capacitive touch buttons.
Also keep an eye out for the new collaborative pkmn rom, it will have some crazy tweaks and options although I can't speak for the devs about what will be included and when.
Update: Maybe this will be helpful http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1610381
Thanks for that CharliesTheMan! I knew there had to be a way somehow.
I also followed your guide on how to update my firmware a couple of weeks ago and it was fantastic. I appreciate the time you put in to have all the files in one thread and the instructions themselves were spot on so THANKS for your work!!
Well go the script in the right place but the instructions say to change the scripts permissions. I've no clue how to do that from ES Explorer. I've also googled it and can't seem to turn anything up.

go into ES, and hit settings from the menu. scroll down to root settings. check root explorer, check mount file system and for safety sake, check backup system app.
you should now be able to change the permissions by long pressing on the file, scroll to properties and hit change on the permissions.

Thanks piizzadude. Had the settings right for ES, just couldn't piece together how to change the actual script permissions...Thanks again!

Long-Press Home

Hi all. Just got my One yesterday. Wondering if anyone has created a mod that when long-pressing home button, will offer a list of currently running apps, task manager, etc? For anyone that has used a TouchWiz Rom, you are probably familiar, although I don't know if it is exclusive to TW's or not. Anyone?

1. Wrong section. This is development, not Q&A.
2. Just double tap the home button to get the multi task function.

Thanks - that was too easy. :silly: FWIW, I posted it here because I (stupidly) thought it would need a mod to happen.... Hey - it's early (although really late in LA)!
Moved as it does not belong in the Development Section....

[MOD]AOSP enabled navbar - AOSP ROMS and GE only

To be clear, these will only work for AOSP ROMs and the GoogleEdition ROM.
Threw these together for myself. Love having the navbar but it is a pain to add every nightly I flash. So I threw this together. I made two versions. One simply adds the navbar and disables the capacitive menu and back buttons (with them active the navbar becomes nearly impossible to use) and triggers the navbar. Fear not, this mod triggers the in app menu overflow access and for that matter you could then create a menu on the navbar. I couldn't automate disabling the backlight so that will still need to be disabled via settings>advanced>sensors. I also made a version that changes the device DPI from 480 to 360 (my preferred DPI).
Download - AOSP_navbar_enabled.v3.zip
Base version above now allows OTA survival. Will reapply itself after each nightly.
Download - AOSP_navbar_enable_360dpi.zip
Download - AOSP_remove_NAVBAR.v3.zip
Here is the method to inject changed into the build.prop that I used (found here)
On the GoogleEdition ROM it does not support disabling the capacitive button backlights natively so the app from the following thread is needed
[APP] Google Edition ROMs - Disable Button Lights

A fixed navbar taking up space precious on a small display seems Nexus- like. Stop this abomination NOW! Instant S4 mini (comparable display space usable for apps).

Of course you are welcome to your opinion!! And in part I agree. That is why I run at 360dpi, that way it has less of an impact on the display. I know it is not for everyone, but choice is the spice of life.

Thanks for this. Is it possible to only activate the in app menu overflow without adding the nav bar? It's so much more intuitive to have that, rather than guessing whether or not the menu button will do anything within each app (the whole reason google got rid of the menu button in the first place).
I wish I knew how!! To be frank, when you enable the navbar and disable the capacitive buttons it activates the menu overflow within apps all by itself. Must be part of the navbar framework. But let me look into it. I MIGHT have an idea but it would be ROM specific, not a general mod like this. What ROM are you running or would like such a feature for?

I will try for the GE port, it should be an easy mod. These don't work on stock touchwiz as it doesn't have the needed framework for the navbar. For some reason Samsung gutted the navbar from their source

Oh it works very nice, but there are some cases (like tapatalk) where the menu would instead be within the navbar so this is not a capacitive menu replacement

Awesome job man. Now I just need to be able to set the physical home button to menu for short press and go full screen (no navigation lights) on long press. Think that is possible?

Q&A for [ROM][OFFICIAL][CandyKat 4.4+][TWRP & CWM][Theme_Engine][quincyatt]

Wakelock problems
Hi everyone! I am using CandyKat Rom. Does anybody "suffer" that when you press the screen turn on button ( I forgot what's its name) it does not turn on. Can anybody suggest what to do? It's the best rom, but I this irritates me. Thanks everyone. ????

Wake lock
2 possible fixes.....
First you could disable HD overlays, I know that works
The other possibility could be Pollution patch. I have never used it as I haven't had the need. But I know many swear it will cure everything but cancer. The patch I believe is more of a Kit Kat cure all, not necessarily specific to Kandy Kat.
To the OP, due to the lack of development with our beloved but aging device, not sure it is necessary to create a Q&A here for the rom. Sorry, but I don't exactly believe that the thread is blowing up over there.

I have no idea what or who Q&A bot is, I try to look up profile and it says "invalid".
If it is a rom specific question it is fine to post there. If it is a device specific question, I would take it here. There is not so much development going on here that the thread are blowing up.
If Mr.Bot was upset about my response, he would have surely had something to say.

if u are having wakelock issues..the two possible fixes are as follows
1) set governor to wheatley.
2) check out my thread about an xposed module that helps with kernel panic related to system. Link
The issue the above member is referring to with hw disabling is the screen flicker...and yes. Disabling hw overlay will solve that issue,as will pollutions aroma patch or a simple build prop edit.
I use both the above fixes ( 1&2 ) and wakelocks are a thing of the past for me. As for the screen flicker. Most devs bake the build prop edits in now.
I'm not a dev, i'm just a flash junkie. if i knew what i was doing i would attempt to build it myself, but is it possible that the fast charge feature of the diablo kernel from the hellybean rom at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2457323 could be built into the uber kernel? am i posting in the right place? sorry if i'm not. i love this rom and have no bugs so far but battery life/charging time suck. thanks to those who put time and effort into doing something that makes me feel like an idiot. thanks in advance.
Hi ,, apparently I cannot flash anything yet.

Hi there. You cannot flash kitkat roms in gingerbread. You should have the jellybean, you can do that by using kies. Note that you should also have cwm 6.0.4.3 and up to flash kitkat roms: )

Carried over from the Dev Thread.
Recently flashed this ROM on my Note. Very much enjoy it.
I have flashed the camera fix, stopped my cam from FC'ing. The camera takes great pictures. The recording delay while annoying is something I can live with, however.. It doesn't record anything. Acts like its recording, and such, but doesn't seem to write anything anywhere.
Any ideas?
Just installed CandyKat-quincyatt-4.4.4.release.v1.6.0-Official-20140922 on my note, but now the hard navigation buttons on my device do not work at all, and there is an extra navigation bar on the screen with the same functions as the existing buttons on the device. I found in the candykat options a checkbox to turn off the software navigation bar, but when I do this I still do not have any functionality with the real navigation buttons on my note.. How do I enable the real nav buttons?

ok.. more problems with nav bar: I tried to turn off the navigation bar in the candy interface options and reset the device to see if it would re-enable the hardware buttons, but now I cannot use the hardware buttons and trying to reenable the on-screen navigation bar does nothing. Clicking the checkbox for navigation bar and nothing shows up on screen. Also, in the same candy interface > navigation bar menu options, if I click the "Show landscape" checkbox it crashes the process com.android.systemui 100% of the time.
EDIT #3:
So I was going to try and manually edit the build.prop file to see if I can reenable my hardware keys, only to discover that this ROM does not support USB file transfer. The device charges fine when connected to USB, but does not even appear in device manager on my computer.. changing usb ports does nothing, enable/disable usb debugging on device does nothing.. also the device randomly freezes, shows a pinky-orange screen and reboots when going into the settings menu. This ROM is too broken, I don't know how anybody is using this. I'm going to have to switch to something more stable with working USB and options.
Android L
Will there be android L in this Rom ? I

Samsung Custom Rom, Customization Questions ?

I am cooking a little custom ROM for my personal use and I have some questions that I hope to get answers for...
Is there a way to change default launcher from `touchwiz` to something else maybe `evie` ?, What I've tried is to replace `TouchWiz.Apk` yet on first boot the device asks to set default launcher.
Is there a way to change the default home screen layout/shortcuts ? What I've tried is editing `csc/default_workspace.xml` yet changes always result in an empty home screen.
Using `system/etc/default-permissions/default-permissions.xml to grant an app some predefined permissions doesn't appear to work for some reason, Is there an actual way to do that?
