So. I've had my S3 for quite awhile now currently on 3 network. Something really odd happened though.
I was able to use it normally in the morning, once I got to the afternoon it I lost all network.
The only thing that I can use to connect to anything is Wifi
Usually there would be a little "H" symbol next to my signal bar when it's full. Now there is nothing but the full signal bar.
When I pull the notification bar down I see a Emergency calls only though I have full signal
I've gone into Settings>More settings>Mobile networks>Network operators to see if I can find a way to connect. I can choose from the networks on screen. Yet it tells me Unable to connect. Try later. I select "Select automatically" which doesn't help either, as it tells me "Registered on network" WHAT NETWORK?!
The Network mode is on Auto
My Mobile Data is on.
My Apn is on "3 WAP"
I've tried rebooting the phone.
Restoring to factory settings.
Turning phone to Flight mode then off again.
Re-inserting Sim.
I've even rooted the phone to see if it would work!!
Can anyone help me solve this ridiculous puzzle? :crying:
Thank you for your time.
Mine is the same. On 3UK in Leicester

Last time I hd this issue, it was caused by a faulty SIM.
I think you have some really bad news. I looks like your efs folder is messed up.
you need send it back if in warranty.
otherwise you can get it repaired from some service centre. They will use SPT or some other repair tool to fix this issue.
You see full bars because you phone uses any available signals for SOS call.
Otherwise it will not lock to network.

Hi! since you are new here, have you read the Forum Rules? not that you've done something wrong but just to get you informed
Here are some suggestions i can give you
okay. if ONE fails, do TWO. if TWO fails, do THREE. if THREE fails, do FOUR.
ONE: reboot
TWO: try doing factory reset (don't forget to backup) / wiping caches
THREE: root your phone and flash another modem
FOUR: contact your network service provider about this matter
i hope this helps Cheers!
samsung galaxy s3 i9300 sim registers but only emergency calls
In my case (sgs3) the problem was caused by the fact that I also formatted the efs partition (something used by Samsung to store hardware identifiaction like IMEI, ...).
If efs is empty/gone/changed(?), the phone will be unable to make regular calls: only emergency calls will be available!
Peace!

why exactly did you resurrect a 4 months old thread?
Cos people run into the same problem all the time and that no permanent/clear solution is available. Any info is good, even if it's just to say that there is no solution yet

But this efs issue has been answered many, many times in the forum - usually people wrecking their £500 phone because they didn't read or understand what they were doing.
This forum is messy enough without needlessly bumping long dead threads that didn't have anything of use in. If people want really helpful information they should read the all-in-one sticky in the general forum.

Ok you're right, everyone should read sticky notes and try keep the forum tidy. Look, I don't want to go too off-track here but this problem is not just limited to Samsung handsets. I'm seeing similar reports about Sony's, which is what i've got. And there is no efs partition that can be saved on a sony because they don't come with one. I'm beginning to suspect that the problem might be with ICS/JB and this is why it's poping up on different phones/threads, with different roms etc.

why are you spamming this all over? this thread is 4 months old
Hi All,
I searched but I couldn't find anything as specfic as mine so here we go
I recently restored my s3 (i9300) to stock DLJ4 4.1.1 from UltimaROM, it all works fine. The modem is DLID by the way. My phone is unlocked, and i'm on the Three network UK.
After a few days however, my phone suddenly switched to emergency calls only, however, the emergency calls never had signal and there was no way for me to recover this initially, so I left my phone overnight and by morning I had signal bars for emergency calls.
I also put my sim card in another smartphone to check that it was fine - it was.
So this morning I put the sim into the s3 and eventually, after searching for searching for networks, restoring default apns etc. I got the phone registered on 3 again. However this dropped out again after say 5 mins. So I repeated, and then after 5 mins it dropped out again. Which is strange...It is also worth noting that sometimes, when I scan for mobile networks to try connecting manually, upon completing the scan it will connect for this 5 mins period and then drop out again. Also sometimes it won't connect to the internet at all, no matter what i do, and this is where I'm at now.
Any suggestions. Could this be a modem issue - but I want to avoid this because I just made the effort of going back to stock..
Thanks in advance

First thing I did - they're all correct as far as I can tell
You should ensure that the firmware is available for your phone.
I know there are least three regions producing the GT-I9300 phone. They are China, South Korea and Vietnam. However, a large amount of product from Korea and Vietnam has the software problem so the phone bricks and they are most found from Taiwan and this also happens in some users in China. They need to change the components which is made in China in order to solve the problem. I don't know whether this happens in your country as well. Fortunately, I never heard this problem occurs in Korean version(SHV-E210S/K/L and SHW-M440S) although they are made in Korea.
Hello all,
To put my issue simply, I am receiving the "Not registered on network" error on my phone. I have tried many things to resolve it and to help narrow down the possible problems, I will explain my situation and what steps I have taken to try to resolve it. I appreciate you taking the time to read my detailed explanation in advance, as I wish to be as clear and informative as possible.
My phone is an unlocked Australian Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300). I bought it about 6 months ago and about two months ago had some issues with the display come out of the blue. I was able to get this issue resolved through my warranty. When I received the phone back though, I thought it was all working fine but then I noticed I couldn't send SMSs or make calls as my phone wouldn't connect to my phone network (Vodafone). I tried reboots, hard reboots, restoring backups, using a different SIM card (from a different carrier) and I still couldn't get it to work.
During this process of trying to fix it myself, I rooted the phone. So when I realised I couldn't fix it and it could possibly be a hardware issue, I sent it back to be fixed under warranty. Unfortunately my warranty was voided when I rooted the phone, even though it was broken before I rooted it.
So a few days ago I received my phone back again and spent about 6 hours trying to fix it. Here's what I tried...
I tried to flash the latest Australian firmware (XSA) which is the same as the one I initially had when I purchased the phone. I tried factory resets, different firmware flashes, custom ROMs, different modems etc. None of this worked. I thought I had found my solution when I stumbled across ARIZA's patch, but event this did not solve my problem.
The really strange thing is I can occasionally connect to the network and if I try repeatedly, I can sometimes get an SMS to send. I've checked my SIM is clean (I've tried another SIM anyway) and everything seems fine.
My IMEI number is still intact and isn't blacklisted. I've tried restoring backups from when it was working (before I got it "fixed" the first time) and that's not worked. The current status of my phone is:
ROM: Omega v5.0
Version: 4.2.2
Baseband: I9300XELLA
Network: vodafone AU (sometimes shows as Unknown)
Mobile Network State showing as "Disconnected", except in rare moments
IMEI and Serial intact
I've tried all I can think of and all the suggestions I can find on the Internet. I'm hoping someone here will have some suggestions for things I can try. I'd really like to fix this issue as I've been without my phone for months. I'm thinking it could be a hardware issue, but want to make sure I've exhausted all options I can try myself first before trying to get a place to repair it. As my warranty is void, I'm not sure how easy this will be.
Thanks in advance for your time and suggestions,
Jay.

Return to a stock rom and use triangle away to reset the counter, retry with your provider, they may let it slide that you've previously tried.
It would appear that you've already tried everything.
Return to stock and update via OTA, remove root, remember to use triangle away, I personally haven't had to do it but i would imagine that it needs root privileges to complete so thinking about it i would say to use triangle away first.
Hope you get it sorted.

Hey,
Thanks for the quick response.
I doubt they would let it slide as I had a pretty long back and forth with them trying to get them to fix the phone or at least send it back to me without charging me for the shipping costs and that didn't end in my favour. I'm sure they'd remember that they already rejected it due to it being modified and would just blame the rooting for the issues.
I'm thinking I might just reset it all to stock, reset the counter and at least ask. If not, I'll try to find a repair shop who will take a look. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm still open to any other ideas people might have which I can try from my end.
Thanks,
Jay.
Starting point would be correct firmware modem and CSC for your location and network .
Flash your original rom .

Hey,
Thanks for the suggestion. I believe I have tried this by downloading the latest firmware from SamMobile and flashing that through Odin, but I haven't tried it through Keis, so I guess I'll give that a go.
I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks,
Jay.
Me too. I've an i9305 (S3 LTE) and i've tried every tutorials on internet and so far nothing: always the same issue "not registered on network". In case you solve the issue please let me know. I'll do the same. Txs
I've tried to connect my phone using Keis and it just seems to say "Connecting..." forever. I've tried running the connection troubleshooter and that just seemed to re-install the drivers but not actually fix the issue. I still can't get Keis to even connect to my phone.
Any ideas on why this would be? Or other suggestions I can try for my initial problem?
Thanks,
Jay.
As an update to this, it seems I've tried everything I can on my end to fix it to no avail. I believe it must be a hardware issue and have dropped it into a phone repair centre. I'm hoping they will be able to find the problem and fix it.
I'll let you know how it goes.
Another update to this, I received a response from the repair centre. They said:
"...we took it all apart and checked all connections and serviced it.
Once we put it back together we tested it with Vodafone and Optus sim cards. Both sims had service and were able to connect to the internet as well."
After I asked for more details on what they did to try and help me determine what the problem was, they said:
"The phone looked 100% fine inside, no signs of water or any other damage. Sometimes electronic devices can be a bit temperamental, maybe the fact that we undone and cleaned all connections it's booted it back to life."
So I'm going to pick it up tomorrow, but it sounds like it's all sorted now. So not it's not 100% clear what the issue was, but to anyone having this same problem who has tried everything like I did, it is likely a hardware issue. Your best bet is probably to try a repair shop (assuming your warranty won't cover the problem).
Thanks to those who offered suggestions and good luck to those with the same problem.
Do please tell us if it worked because i'm tempted to do the same as you did before selling it on ebay as faulty for parts. PLEASE ANSWER US BACK AFTER TESTING IT an entire day. THANK YOU A LOT!
Does it work properly now? Thanks - Please reply.
Not sure if it is exactly the same problem but I remember getting that msg when i was on Telstra and I'd installed a new ROM - I went to the Telstra site and got them to send an activation msg that reset my provider info. It didn't seem to matter for phone calls but I wasn't getting any connection to do with data until I 'ran' the msg they sent.

Txs for help but I don't have the backups of my efs folder... so I think it is useless therefore i am going to sell it on ebay as faulty for parts. Unfortunately! I love my i9305!
You should probably do some more searching on site - there are a number of things to do, including getting a service centre to fix it. Be cheaper than a new phone. Is it an i9300 or ann i9305?

It's a i9305 and I've tried everything, every tutorials on internet without success so far. I am tired of the situation and also very disappointed therefore I think i will sell it as faulty. As it regards to a repair center, near my area it's very difficult to find someone who can fix it.
For me it seems my connection is still intermittent when using my Vodafone SIM on my S3 (and the same for another Vodafone SIM I tried on this phone) whereas both SIMs work fine on other phones.
I then tried a Telstra SIM on my S3 and it worked fine. So it seems I have a weird problem with my phone where the combination of the S3 and Vodafone doesn't work, but other phones or other SIMs do work.
I think I'm just going to try changing carrier (I've been meaning to anyway) since it seems their SIMs work in my phone.
Really not sure what is causing this issue, but I'm at the point where I just want it fixed and I don't really care how. Hope you find out how to solve your issue.
How is your phone right now? Im also having the same problem. It always say 'not registered to network' everytime i make a call. This happens whenever i turn on the flight mode, then turning it off.. i have a strong signal and i can use the internet provided by my network but i cant make a call or text.. people cant also reach my number. I sent this already to samsung service ctr and they changed the board but its still there whenever i access the flight mode..

Hi...the same, no solution so far. I am actually selling it on ebay for parts. I simply gave up.
Hello guys I have a problem with meh galaxy s3. 4.1.2
I can't make any phone call or messages but my mobile internets work all good. It was on 3uk originally but I put the code in to unlock it a year ago working perfect since just yesterday.
I recently unrooted about 2.3 weeks ago and phone was working perfectly. Making phone call the lot
Now this has popped up. My imei is still there. I have never installed a custom rom or anything like that just autoroot and back to stock once.
Plz help I have done searches on here and google.
Appreciate the help
Usual suspects: factory reset, bad sim, network issue, corrupt rom. Check you have auto network selection.
Hello guys, i am under OF1 and using the Stang5litre note5 rom which was working great until i somehow lost all signal . I was trying to make 4g to work , after i entered my carriers apn settings i had really slow internet speeds ( edge) .
I downloaded an app called Advanced signal status and i switched to Gsm/cdma and i had H+ which was alot better. I kind of followed this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon/general/how-to-make-verizon-sch-i545-att-t3267687
I dont know if i messed with any other setting ( i think not) and after a power off my phone had zero signal ( a forbidden icon like this forbidden . I cannot make or receive calls and i cant use data. Oddly once in a while i get some sort of reception of signal ( like 1-2 lines) but again no data. I wiped cache and factory reset from recovery , but problem was still there...
Bottom line, the phone is unusable..
Any ideas?
P.S. ( i searched in the forums and couldnt find something really similar to my case , so i started this one )
Are you trying to use another carrier SIM on the Verizon s4?

yes , it was working ok for calls, and after entering apn settings data was working but suddenly everything stopped. I wiped and problem still there..
If you have a AT&T or t-mobile SIM, did you set the mode from CDMA to GSM in settings? What bootloader are you on? OF1, GPL1, or another? If you did a factory data reset, then redid the APN, it should work. You will get that annoying message saying "SIM not from Verizon" though.

Had the same thing happen to my S4 running that ROM, but I stayed on Verizon. Tried other ROMs, flashing recoveries, modems, etc and manually changing settings, but always same problem with no signal even when trying a new Verizon SIM. I came to the conclusion the modem got fried by it somehow.

wow , that is really bad news . i ordered two new signal cables, just in case ( they were 1,5 usd) cause i have also replaced display and maybe i messed with them a bit , maybe i will try to reflash stock rom.. though i really hate this rom. The thing is it was working perfectly. Something i didnt mention is because i live in a humid environment and while repairing phone and maybe because the chinese frame wasnt that good from one side there is a gap that lets humidity in, (never spilled water in it , just humidity) , making the touch unusable. So i heated phone at 45-50 C( 113-122 F) which is not a very high temperature , and it fixes the problem , have done the procedure 2-3 times and never had an issue. maybe this time this was the culprit... I found this solution online somewhere and i didnt think it might be dangerous, so i tried it. Anyway it stopped to work after this iirc.. Sorry i failed to mention that
By the way Camparks what do you mean "fried your modem " ? How is that even possible? i mean by just installing a rom . I am not saying that i dont beleive you, just that it seems a bit strange .. doesnt it ?
What about this? maybe we should try it?

Try the stock ROM (even though it sucks). I'm with AT&T, but I slapped my SIM in my Verizon s4 and everything worked except mobile data because I didn't mess with the APN settings. I'm on the GPL1 firmware with root.
If stock ROM doesn't fix the issue, then your modem is probably fired like camparks said.

Ok, i will try it as soon as i can.
It seems strange that everything was working ok until i installed Advanced signal status app.. and i think even after uninstalling it , it changes those settings permanently. Anyway ill try it thanks
Okay i tried to flash stock rom and now i am getting repeating ufortunately app has stopped for many apps which makes the phone unusable , i forgot what i used to do for this error some weeks ago when i flashed it for the first time..
Edit: nvm , its fixed with a factory reset/wipe
ok i did flash it with stock rom, results are signal is really low, 1-2 lines and some random times 3 and after refreshing apn settings internet isnt working, so.. it does seem like the modem is fried. It shows E or H+ but it isnt really working.
Bottom line, it does seem to be fried.
P.S. Out of curiosity , i dont know if its worth to do but i found an S4 I9500 motherboard on ebay around 20 eur. You think it will be compatible ? framewise and all the other parts..
