Hi,
Since two weeks I'm having GPS lock problems on my Samsung Galaxy SII. It had been working fine for two years.
I'm not sure if it's related to the 4.1.2 upgrade I did two weeks ago.
If I go outside and start any sport tracking app I almost get instantaniously a GPS lock. Opening GPS Fix shows 11 satellites and 9 satellites with a lock.
When I start the sporting activity after a variabel number of minutes (could be 12, could be > 30 minutes or could be even > 60 minutes) I get a GPS signal lost. Opening GPS fix shows a large number of satellites but no lock. At that point rebooting the phone (but this is not an option while sports tracking) is the only solution.
I've tried everything related to this subject. (factory reset, playing with the Google location services, etc). The only thing I haven't done is downgrading the Android version.
Any thoughts on this subject?
Thanks
Try a clean install of the stock rom you're currently running (get one from Samfirmware), then try downgrading (not 4.0.4 tho). Or perhaps try a custom rom/kernel ?

Hi everyone
I've just got my player but I can't get the device to lock on with the gps, has any one had the same problem?
Have you try doing it out door with an open sky? It will still take a while to get an initial lock. If you have a wifi connection, it will be faster because Google will use the wifi access point location in estimating your current location.
Get the program GPS test. Turn on your GPS (you do not need wifi at all). Go outside. You should get a lock in less than a minute. The program will show you the satellites it sees and when you are locked. When locked it will give the latitude and longitude coordinates and the UC time.
First time I turned on the GPS indoors the samsung "saw" 9 satellites, and locked in less than 30 seconds. The GPS is the fastest I have seen on any device. I have locked on in a moving train as well.
Ive found a fix for the problem
All is now working fine

"Ive found a fix for the problem."
Mine worked without this so-called fix. My device is running Gingerbread, and the GPS worked and I got a fix the first time I tried it.
I have the international sgs3 with 32gb, non rooted, everything is stock. My rom build number is IMM76D.I9300BUALF1. I can get a lock very fast (<5 secs) but after ~15 min the phones looses the gps lock!. This happens with all apps: Google Maps (ver 6.6, i don't use 6.9, it is to glitchy), latest igo and gps status. When this happens gps status shows me that the phone sees ~15 satellites but is not locking on any of them (to be more precise: when i open gps status it shows 0/15 fix/stats ). It does not lock again until i disable gps from settings, and re-enable it after a 10 sec of inactivity. In location services i have everything selected. i always have data connection. I am in Bucharest, Romania (if it counts). It always loses lock after ~15 min, it doesn't matter what i do, what app i use, or what time of day it is
Please help. What is the problem? I have cleared and re downloaded agps data with gps status and it still happens. Is it solar activity? if so, anyone else has this issue? Is it a faulty gps unit in my phone? Is it a common problem with sgs3 or with this rom? if so, we should make this problem known. Any help is appreciated.
My GPS works fine.

Hi. I also have the SGS3 - I9300, International, non rooted, all stock, in australia.
GPS has worked fine for me - did a 3hr trip, kept GPS lock (as far as I can remember) all through the trip. Even when it lost cellphone signal.
I was using the NAVIGON app (included, maps are predownloaded so I don't need internet connection through the whole trip).
I've even had it get a lock inside buildings - usually even normal GPS-es have problems with GPS inside buildings...
So it might just be your specific phone. I don't know whether your location matters - is it always pretty much on 15min? If so it's possibly a manufacturing error. Can you take it back to where you bought it and get them to send it in for warranty fix?
If it's a manufacturing error, they should be able to get it fixed for free.
Thats old firmware you could try updating .
Certainly GPS is not a problem on SGS3 .

No GPS coordinates in photos
Guys, I need your advice.
I am travelling with turned-off cellular data on my i9100 since I am abroad.
I am taking pictures - a lot of pictures. But I just found out that app. 90% of them do NOT have GPS coordinates.
I tried everything:
- checked settings
- restarted phones
- connected to WIFI
- installed GPS Config for rooted phones and set up the location
- flashed ROMs (AOSP, AOKP, MIUI, stock ROMs).
BUT nothing helped. I think that something is wrong with my phone.
Why? Because iPad Mini + iPhone 5 captured GPS coordinates IMMEDIATELY. I mean in 1 second!
The strangest thing is that Navigon gets GPS position really fast on i9100, but it cannot navigate me - it is waiting and connects after app 2 mins.
Thanks for help.
It looks like that stock-based ROM are better - if you wait app. 1 minute, it gets GPS data to your photo.
Good ROM is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2411990
Otherwise, it is still bad that you need to wait to get the GPS fix.
iPhone really gets it in 1 second.
So buy an iPhone. I've never had GPS problems with the S2 provided I regularly clear then update the ephemeris data (which is basically the position of the satellites at different times/in different locations; in GPS Status - tools/manage A-GPS state - reset data then download new data), and then put the phone in flight mode (obviously with GPS on) & stand outside with good line of sight in all directions to enable it to 'learn' where the satellites are for 5 minutes or so/until you get a good fix. This has always enabled me to get a fast/accurate fix for a couple of weeks until the ephemeris data gets old, then I repeat the process.
I do have iPhone 5 ... that is why I could have compared the GPS results.
How do you reset "ephemeris data"?
I tried GPS config for ROOTed phones, but it does not help.
(I set up the country in the settings.)
Generally speaking - if I am in my country, there is no problem.
BUT: Once I am abroad and have cellular data turned off, then I cannot get GPS in my photos.
I tried about 10 ROMS - but all are the same ===> no GPS if you take photos when you are abroad.
Hello everyone. I'm having this problem for a couple or days now. My gps takes too long to find satellites and get a fix, and it loses it constantly. I noticed this behavior is similar to what it was before I set it from "battery save" to "high precision" for the first time. I started playing a GPS based ARG called Ingress by google and my gps was erratic at first (I thought the game or gps precision were like this anyway), then I found changing gps to high precision made it perfect. It showed my exact position all the time, even when I was riding a bus or car it was literally where I was. Then all of a sudden, 2 days ago, it just won't get a fix. It moves to my position, gets a lock for a few seconds/minutes, and stays stuck there. Until it gets another lock a minute later and stays there for another minute, even on high precision.
I rooted my phone last week and flashed stock 4.4.4 KitKat and it was fine, it really started all of a sudden. I flashed BlissPop 2.2 with 5.0.2 lollipop, and the problem remains. After I changed my gps.conf to my regional configs (South america/Brasil NTP servers, ROM standard was North america) it improved a little but it still doesn't work properly (I've messed a little with gps.conf and nothing happened). I downloaded the GPS status and toolbox APP to reset and download AGPS data, nothing worked. But I noticed through it that it's always stuck on "Looking for GPS", when it finds it, it's when my position in ingress moves and gets stuck. When I go back to the GPS toolbox APP, it's " looking for GPS" again.
Moto E (Condor), XT1022 (dual sim) 5.0.2 lollipop BlissPop custom ROM (based on cyanogenmod), all stock hardware. I didn't change anything before the problem started, and a few other players had it too (though most are fine now except me and another one), any ideas?

I resolved this issue on my XT1021 running CM12.1 (5.1.1). The following is quoted from XDA member @BubuXP:
To make integrated GPS working you need to reboot in bootloader mode (hold volume down while turning on the phone), then attach the phone to the pc with the USB cable, and from the command prompt use fastboot to erase modemst1 and 2:
Code:
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
It will not erase anything tangible for the user (apparently). I did the test on a fresh install of the last nightly (20141206), flashed above a stock GPE rom. Edited by BubuXP, 08 December 2014 - 01:00 AM.

NOTE: If your GPS doesn't lock immediately, download GPS Test from the Play Store. Click "Clear AGPS" and then click "Update AGPS". Then your GPS should be working just fine
Hi guys!
I experience some problems with the GPS on my Nokia phone with Oreo 8.1. This is how it looks like in the GPS Test app:
https://img1.picload.org/image/dlori...803-201912.png
I tried the following
- turned off the 4G
- also turned on/off the WiFi
- tried changing the location mode from high accuracy to device only
- cleared the AGPS - again no signal, then updated the AGPS, same thing
- restarted the phone
- turned off the phone, waited for a while, turned it on again
- removed the SIM card, waited for a while, put it in again
Google maps finds my location, also Runtastic but it says that GPS signal is weak and tracking will not work. So something is obviously wrong here. This happened before as well, then the GPS worked perfectly for about a week, now I have the problem again.
Can anybody please help? Thanks!
Hi again,
So the GPS started working again yesterday for a while. It behaved perfectly with no issues and accuracy of 1 meter. Then when I started the app later, it could not get a fix again... Today it is working (for now). I even tested it home in a room and it has 21 satellites in view, 11 in use, with 3 meters accuracy. For comparison my other phone can only see 17 and uses 5.
So when the GPS decides to turn on, it works perfectly. But it also often happens that it cannot fix. Would you guys say that this is a hardware or software error? If it is the software I would be willing to wait for an update. If it is a hardware problem I still have 4 days left to return the phone, so please let me know. Thanks!
Did you ever find a fix?
All three of my stinking Androids are having this issue since updating to Oreo and Pie. I drive hours a day and NEVER had this issue until I updated and it started occurring right after the update. I even bought a brand new Pixel XL an it's doing the same thing.
