Just purchased my 1st Android phone and am getting used to everything. Without sounding like a broken record and having spent some time on the forum, can I please be directed to or have answered how to root an Atrix 4.1.83 v2.2.2 without flashing back?
Does it make sense to wait for Gingerbread to come out or does it make sense to unlock the boot now?
Any input greatly appreciated.

Look for Gingerbreak in dev section to root.
I would unlock and flash Kenneth Penn's 4.5.91. The Moto release in SOAK will stop you flashing back if you want to.
Beamed from WinBorg 4G via XDA Premium
If you wait and get an update from Motorola and you have your artix rooted on 2.2. How should one proceed? Does one just update and then re-root after that?
Thanks for the info. I wasn't sure if I HAD to flash back in order to gain root. As much as I don't like the motoblur bloat, a few items are handy. Any ROMs to look at?

When I was running 1.83, I used a method from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138204
Check out the third post in that thread. You'll need ADB to get it done, but if you don't have ADB installed you may as well do that.
ROM-wise, I'm using CherryBlur, which is a modified version of the latest 2.3.4 ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160649
And I think it's great. The original HKTW 2.3.4 beta leak had a lot of bugs, many of which have been corrected by community updates and hacks, but Kenneth's 2.3.4 seems to be pretty clean so far. As to whether it's worth waiting for the official release, well... I think it's worth modding your phone just for kicks, and to gain a better understanding of how it works.
Thanks Obscene! Now all I have to do is find the time. In theory; to get bothyour methods done - how long should I expect barring no issues?

If there is please show me where I can find it because I am tired of waiting for Motorola to release ICS!!!

Why not root your phone? You can un-root at anytime. ICS is too good to wait for an actual release

Just did it myself, and it was extremely easy... I am a NOOB by the way... if I can do it, you can.
One suggestion... READ EVERY SINGLE WORD... then read it all again... and then 3 more times until you know it before you get to it... it will save you a lot of grief... trust me on this one...
I hate the new upgrade of Rogers Droid Razr ICS
I upgrade it finally but now I hate ICS.
After the upgrade my phone is to slow even if I reset it twice, flash player don't work at all, webtop act funny and totally different(I like the old one), Some of my apps don't work or crashes alot, its not easy to uninstall apps like 2.3.5&2.3.6, my wifi & GPS went on&off with out doing anything, my GPS apps doesn't work at all, ....
I like the new look of ICS but when its come to the function, its ****ed up!!!

You should back up your data, boot into stock recovery or if you're using custom recovery (cwm/bootmenu) and do a factory wipe. It's painful as you'll have to set up your phone again from scratch but it will fix most of your issues with apps crashing.
Hey guys, I was wondering if I could downgrade from Ics to Gingerbread, is there sb who can help, thanx

I'm on Telstra in Australia and when I updated to ICS the radio improved out of sight. Reception and signal strength is noticeably better, and that annoying "invalid sim card" message stopped.
GO ICS!!!
I want to return to GB because now on ICS it doesn't find any update for the final version of ICS when I'm searching for update, while others in my country have already the final one
Oh,again this thread? EVERYONE ALREADY SAID THAT U CANT DOWNGRADE, MODERATORS, please, close this spma thread and maybe we can post a banner saying about downgrade. Dude, how boring r this people that cant search and become always a troll.

Unfortunately, you can't. This is due to the signed bootloader version. When we all upgraded to ICS to changed the bootloader signature to a higher number than GB. From what I understand if you try to, it will either softbrick you or will simply fail.
I'm interested to know more about your situation, are you on a custom ROM or anything? Typically if the phone won't update, you somehow found a way off the upgrade path.
Also, disregard that guy who yelled at you. I know we all have heard this downgrade issue about 1000 times but those of us who regularly post and help people don't condone yelling at people.

my razr maxx is unlocked. How I canrevert it back to GB?
Thanks for your help
Tristan
Unlocked? or rooted? Two different things.
Only way to be unlocked is too have gotten one of the very rare developer edition razrs.
Other than that, rooted, you still have a locked, encrypted bootloader. Simply put you are locked with the ics kernel, and can't go back to stock gingerbread.

This is a very lofty goal. Moto f*cked this thing so much that we would need a miracle to unlock 2.3.5. I'm not saying you shouldn't try, and with no development experience myself I have no room to talk. I just know that others have tried and have been fruitless, or frauds... I do hope you can crack this **** open, however. This is a devoted community and the ones still with a photon know how great a device we have. I plan on using this phone until it won't boot anymore and I hope that we can bring it to its full potential.

Okay ladies and gentleman I know were all looking for a method to unlock bootloader for 2.3.5 on our photons, don't give up. I'm using my photon on family mobile by doing the methods described in a previous thread. I used RSD lite to flash a us cellular sbf file. I followed all instructions and now I'm using my locked photon on 2.3.5. I flashed kddi file and have my GSM radio unlocked with peetr's rom. Its all working smoothly so I say to all my fellow locked photon users ... you can still use your phone on any GSM network. I know we want to flash a ICS or JB rom but for the time being the method works. Don't give up cause it will be a pity if xda lets this awesome phone go.

Good morning all,
My wife's USCC Electrify (Photon otherwise) is a large, silvery turd for some reason. I've found the rooting instructions but I'm wondering/hoping that someone has the clever info on whether this beast can go Jelly Bean (or even ICS). It's currently on Gingerbread and it behaves like a naughty child.
However, perhaps rooting will cure it's ills?
I dunno.
I'd prefer the upgrade method.
Any push in the right direction would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
JBH

What version of gingerbread 2.3.4 or 2.3.5? Some people have still been able to unlock their phone/bootloader on 2.3.5, but only on electrify. Normally 2.3.5 is locked and you can't advance. If you can unlock the boot loader then you can most likely use any of the ROMS.
Just know that 10.1 CM ROM is 4.2 jelly bean. There are issues with it still like Bluetooth, wifi tethering. Amongst other little things.
Any of the straight CM 10 ROMS work quite well.
