Wrong IMEI - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys!
i've recently bought a S3 on ebay and i've received. It boot and works normally,it has "only" problem with the network.. it has signal but i can't call any number differenf from the emergency one!!
then i tried a factory reset, i've tried flashing custom roms (miui v5 and smartisan) but still doesnt't work.. finally i realized the IMEI i can check in the status menu is different from the one printed on the phone....
so i guess i've bought a stolen phone, isn't it??
of curse the ebay seller doesn't answer...
i feel sorry for the original owner but i payed it.. so is there any way to change the imei restoring the original one? would it be enough to fix it?
is there any chance i can use my "new" phone normally??
thanks a lot! :fingers-crossed:

nope.

its a shame everytime i start a new thread, its usually about mishaps. i have only been lucky with my still kicking HTC TYTN. i luv and respect u a lot. anyway, just paid £300 for a brand new Ameo(HTC ADVANTAGE) yesterday. and just this morning, its been BARRED. tried ringing the seller, but i guess he know he pulled a fast one and his phone number is unreachable. i love the handset still. if anyone is interested in buying pls PM me. never buy a phone off anyone on gumtree. there are all dodgy.Tmobile Customer service has been quite helpful and they did say the will be waiting for the man to make an insurance claim before they deal with him.its a shame they wouldnt gimme back my money. i am guessing this phone wouldnt work in UK.
take out the sim and then change the imei number then put a different sim back in. it should would work

That won't work, the Ameo uses completely unsupported hardware unless I'm mistaken. I hate scumbags like that and I'm sorry to hear of your plight.
My Ameo's on Ebay if you wanna buy a cheap one with extras.

Your phone CAN be unblocked by T-Mobile by authority of the owner, so it might be worth coaxing them into putting pressure on this tosser.
[email protected] is your best port of call.
EDIT:
YOU might not be aware, but despite its blocked status you can still use the handset for Internet browsing. Blocked phones are only blocked against using voicecall/SMS functionality.
i think i just bidded on yours.. that is if its on ebay. So, vodafone texts work, and internet works? just calls that dont?

yeap, its the same handset. you can only send txt with Vodafone but not receive. if you make a good sensible offer, i wouldn't mind ending the auction early for you. the only reason i am giving you preference is because we both belong to the same forum. like state b4, it wouldn't make or receive phone calls.
220? or wait til' the auction ends
for £255, we have a deal. its been unlocked with Olipro thingy and its got the official wm6 tmobile rom on it. its ur call mate. am already losing money on it if i sell it for £255. out of curiosity, how do you intend to pay?

i've already answered you in another thread, i guess you didn't believe me.
it's dead. an x.x.51.x radio has killed it.
you can
1 send it to t mobile
2 send to htc
3 buy and learn about jtag
that's all.

I don't know what model you would be using in Cambodia, but, like the man says, the wrong radio will brick the phone if it's the wrong one for the model you use.
You still haven't told us the model number.
Even if you live in Cambodia: your phone is bricked, most probably no Software solution
In order of reality:
1st HW solution: Buy a new one
2nd HW solution: Replace motherboard (perhaps not definitive solution)
3rd HW solution: Grab an osciloscope, measure and test the device, find out which chips are done, replace them.
But to be honest: If you cannot send it to HTC or t-mobile for repairs, you have an expensive paperweight. sorry for that mate.
Please note: if you can send it for repairs: chance is this could cost major money: If they find out you HSPL-ed your device, all costs will fall back on you and you will be facing a big bill. If it absolutely does nothing at all, chance is they will replace it free of charge, but absolutely no guarantee this will happen as their diagnostic equipment can see more than you would like...

look here, it will set you back $329, still your phone is probably bricked beyond JTAG's capabilities.
As for your other question: it is a combination of a jig (hardware/box), connector(s) and software.
Also note that if you can access the phone using JTAG, it is still possible you will need other replacement parts to fix it
Problem there: obtain the parts, price of the parts.
I believe you are beter off buying a new one.
BTW: the question about the phone keeps playing up:
a t-mobile HD2 says nothing. t-mobile Europe is completely different from t-mobile US (TMOUS), therefore the repeated question about your phone type.
google "riff jtag" costs about 150 euro, and you will need to dismantle the phone to do it.
on the plus side, if done right it will work, plus once you have a jtag box you can make money fixing other peoples phones. (works with many kinds of phone.)
Thanks all user.

its a tmous, it was already established in another thread, plus only the tmous shows those symptoms when flashing non tmous radios.
Unless you are experienced in this kind of work i would SERIOUSLY recommend you send this away for repair. JTAG route means taking your device apart and soldering, not for the faint hearted!!
There is no software solution, if your device cannot enter bootloader, im afraid its properly bricked!
Use the web to locate nearest repair centre.
Dear PA49
i also in cambodia and faced the same problem as yours.. the damn **** expensive bricked hd2.. i dont know if u have solved your problem.. mine is still waiting for 3 days by a mobile care shop in my home town.,..he charge me 30$
this is my phone number 017 777373
and probably your boot is erased, not a must you have your jtag, you can take it
to a repair shop for dead boot repair/unbrick.

[Q] Register - Help please!

First of all I just want to say HI and Merry X-MAS to everyone and also a happy new year , now lets cut to the chase I have asked a few times on the bord how can I solve my problem about not getting signal , now i found in this evening that actually the phone doesn`t register to the network, I was experienced the problem so I boot the android to see if it is a wimo or rom problem, android found the network but couldn`t register just like wimo. Now I found out that it might be a IMEI problem like is blacklisted because it was stolen I also contact the HTC support but no answer yet is there any way to solve this problem ? From my little knowledge I think the phone what i thought it was new to be branded and unlocked before it arrived to me so maybe i can re-unlock it or something ? Also is there a way to find if it was branded or stolen i can provide my sn and imei if it helps ... Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad English ....
To start with I'd contact your service provider. They could possibly check if the IMEI is blacklisted. If not HTC support should be able to.
My service provider is USELESS ... I just hope I could find a solution for this
You spoke to them?
What did they say?
You said it was stolen. Did you report it as stolen?
I said IT MIGHT be stolen couldn`t get in touch with them ...

You need to - sorry, but they're the answer. Nothing on here will help if your IMEI has been blocked, and they're the only people that can tell if that's the case.
What he said ^ ^
It's the only way. Keep getting onto them! If not try taking it into a store?

[Q]Mobile Network not available

Hey I've been looking through all the other threads for the past few days and nothing has helped. My normal network is orange but a few days ago i believe it was after i flashed neat ROM i couldn't connect to my network i tried a few different sim cards in there but some worked and some didn't, now today i flashed Miui android and the sim cards that used to work don't now.. I've contacted orange and they are sending me a new sim card. I've tried flashing stock ics and gingerbread also stock orange firmware, IMEI is the same as under the battery.
Is it..
Blacklisted?
Hardware?
EFS?
Thanks in advance
Did you try this already?
Yeah, sorry should have said, this was the first thing i tried
Before contacting Orange, Did you try your sim in another phone or try reinstalling Original Orange firmware.
Going from one custom rom to another custom rom because of the problems you were getting, will more than likely create more problems.
From recovery, data/factory reset. advanced wipe delvik cache. Mounts and Storage format system and data.
Use Odin to reinstall latest firmware or the original firmware that came with your phone.
Then make a nandroid backup. Plus backup your EFS.
Once its all working.. Then and only then.. try a custom rom.
Thanks for helping, but that has not worked, i also got my new sim in the post just now and that has not worked either.. :/

Sorry to hear that. If you have already tried original firmware and your imei is correct then it looks like it may have to go in for service.
Dont forget to use triangle away if your still on ICS to remove any binary counts or use USB jig with old bootloader. Then flash your original firmware back to your phone before sending it in though.

Blacklisted surely Orange would have told you .
EFA unlikely if you have correct IMEI you can always restore your backed up EFS folder .
Hardware possible but as you have messed with roms my guess would be you have wrong CSC and not entered network settings manually .

Sounds like you already had an idea that the IMEI was blocked from your first post. Sugesting that you have a fair idea that it was stolen. If not, I hope you get your money back. If on the other hand you knew!!, I and I imagine all the other members of this site wil help you no further. And I hope you get what you deserve!!!

If it was stolen it wasn't my fault it was CEX's fault for selling it to me, i reckon someone sold it to CEX either to claim insurance or it was stolen and then sold to CEX then me. I would rather get the IMEI unblocked instead of a refund do you know if they have the power to do that?

No they will not have the power to do that," that would make it a criminal offence, if it already is'nt ". Take your receipt back to the shop along with the phone and demand your money back.

[Q] How to know my replaced motheroard is new not any 2nd hand ?

well i my S3 got screwed and its already out of warranty.. so i went to the local repair shop and he said he'll replace the motherboard.
Now my QUESTION is : How will i know if the motherboard he is replacing will be Brand New and not from any other Second hand phone or any used one....
I asked him .. he said it'll be new.. but still i have a doubt about it... as i am paying the price of NEW one..
So how to make sure the replaced motherboard is brand NEW not swapped from any older one ??
You could ask him for the bill or shipment papers that came with the board from samsung or from wherever he got it from.
If its official it should have a serial number or imei that you could verify.
Ask for the packaging it came in.
If it is not new, maybe you could get a reasonable discount.
After all a working mainboard is just as good bee it new or second hand.
Sorry for the bad english.
Cheers.

Thanks !! but can i check with brickbug app if its still insane or not..
I mean if new motherboard will must be non-insane i guess... or it could be insane ??
who knows?
It could be from an older stock or brand new stock.
Thats the downside off mass prudoction in your case.
You can always verify it with those apps.
Until you have it in your hands it is a 50-50 gamble.
Hope you get what you want.
Let us know how it ends up.
Cheers.

Well i think i can't do nothing about it..
I will make sure from him at least assure me that it won't become dead again soon
atleast will be good for 1.5 years ..
today he said to come tomorrow as he was busy putting IMIEI number on the motherboard..
IF it means that ITS NEW MOTHERBOARD ??
NEW MOTHERBOARD= have to regsiter new IMEI ???
or he'll put my old IMEI from dead Motherboard to new one ??
as the older motherboard is already dead then how do old IMEI is transferred to new one ??
Well from this i think that ITS NEW MOTHERBOARD AS NEW MOTHERBOARD HAVE NO IMEI AT DEFAULT and YOU HAVE To MANUALLY PUT IT IN ??
