Force 3g? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

At my work location the cell towers are saturated and 4G service is horrible. I understand that Verizon wants to migrate everyone off 3g but it's still ridiculous. Is there any way to code a 3g/4g button or something? I'm assuming this is all coded in the radio and can't be altered, but I must ask...

I don't know about actually doing the code..but I don't see why not.. and I say that because I know when 4g first CME out there was a "button" that let you switch between the 2.. I believe its possible.. ull just have to find someone that would b willing to do it..

I don't recall the name but there are a couple of apps in the store for toggling 4g/3g.

I have tried all apps even called Samsung and they said it's not possible they could be wrong though
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app

As far as I know you cant do it. I used to be able to do it on my galaxy nexus but that is because the galaxy nexus has separate 3g and 4g radio chips. (so you can disable one or the other) and the note ii has them integrated on the same chip

if i was to buy a glaxay s 2, and connect it to t-mobile's service, would it still be possible for me to get the 4G network? just curious
4g? Hell no.
3g? No.

That's something you should ask T-Mobile about. They have a website and everything

Um, what unbranded phone works with tmo-us 3g bands? You have to be able to receive the correct frequencies in order to get 3g, and tmo-us uses non-worldly 3g bands, unlike att.
So, while dumb, it's the reality of the situation.

Nokia n9 is coming with a pentaband radio, so it will work on Tmobile 3g.

Where are you located? Do you experience lost calls?
I live in central jersey... And I don't really make phone calls to know but while texting or Web browsing I just lose signal

It could be network upgrades.
I have been having the same issue here in Salt Lake. The Sprint store tells me it is tower upgrades in my area. I take that with a grain or 2000 of salt but it may be true.
Carrier?
On AT&T you can have signal drop if you use a non 4g apn in a 4g area.
You can put your location in here, https://network.sprint.com/ and see if there's any upgrades in the next 6 months. It's entirely possible.
Yeah I'm on sprint... I'm about to go to a sprint store and hopefully they get me a new one and it's better cause I can't even enjoy my phone like this... My galaxy s 2 didn't have this problem so idk if it's the network

S3 LTE ??

I have the sprint S 3 but there's no 4gLTE in my area, would I be able to get the international version and use that on the sprint network? Cause lte is the reason you can't use the quad core right?

Yup np. Well its I guess like spamming and if the mods saw it, there would've been a fiasco here!

Any info bout the lte?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
The international version doesn't have CDMA radios.
Lte will be rolling through the country later on. Get the quad if you don't want to wait til that happens

No no no, it won't work. Sprint uses CDMA radios, the international has GSM radios. You misunderstood.
Sprint is cdma but LTE is GSM technology. Just to complicate things.....

But the international has no LTE. So it will absolutely not work on Sprint.

I so agree with you!!! I want to go to ATT or TMobile because they're GSM Networks but Sprint is giving me a crazy deal that I could never drop.

In much of the US CDMA coverage is superior to GSM coverage. I almost never do not have at least CDMA for voice. When I was with ATT on a GSM phone that was definitely not the case.
Well maybe TMobile is better. I find with Sprint. I only get service in about 60% of the places I go

Is Straight Talk a good at&t Alternative?Other Carriers?

Im on t-mobile and this constant data drops and crappy signal in my house and everywhere u go is intolerable. I really don't wanna sign a contract but heard.good things about straight Talk. So i need advice or current user input on this matter. Or recommend me to something worth checking out. Thank you.

StaightTalk seems pretty good for at&t users who want to change carriers with minimum fuss. Your at&t note won't need any rom or modem flashing. But, you will have to unlock it and manually input the APN settings.

Well any idea on how the coverage is? Just like att? data fast?

It runs on AT&T's HSPA network. So it's the same as that. You won't get LTE though. That currently only for AT&T.

Just order a sim card online...I'm currently on ST n its got fast data speeds n good coverage
If you have an AT&T phone and plan on using ST AT&T then you don't need to unlock your phone! I'm using the GNote on straight talk AT&T without it unlocked.

Data while on the phone??

I was just wondering if it's capable of data while you're in a phone call. if anyone knows please let me know

Sent from my SM-N900P using xda app-developers app
Only on Lte which is okay, but if all you have is 3g it should have been svdo
Sent from my SM-N900P using xda app-developers app
I believe once u have a custom rom it will let you...don't know what file has to be changed or whatever. When my s3 was stock it wasnt possible but after flashing several customs roms I just happened to notice I was able to talk and use date at same time while on 3g.
Sent from my SM-N900P using xda app-developers app
Just tested it on my VZW GN3. While on a phone call, both WiFi (obviously) and 4G LTE work flawlessly.

Has nothing to do with custom ROMS. Sprint Note 3 cannot do calls and data while on 3G, on WiFi and LTE, yes.
Only Sprint phones that did calls and data while on 3G are/were the Evo 4G LTE and Galaxy S3. That's because they supported SVDO. After those two phones, Sprint did not support that feature onwards.
