Battery always charging and drain - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi guys.
my s2's battery thinks she is always charging...and it drains very fast.
to make a workaround on this i have to take off battery and put it again, so it shows "discharging". but it starts right after i put it to charge again, when i took off the charger, it still shows "charging"
any idea? this is fcking me up my battery wont last even 3 hours
obs: already changed Rom, Kernel, but it didnt change anything..
obs2: even when i turn off the phone, it shows that battery icon like when is charging while phone is off. lol
obs3: my problem is EXACTLY THE SAME as this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427539

You could try a new battery, maybe it's not the phones fault

[Q] Battery is burning FAST !

First of all it wouldnt charge past 99%, And then, after one hour of standby it went down to 88%!!
Cm7 official stable release.
Me too no pass 99% :S
Try to download a "battery caliberation" app and do that, also burn it to 0% and charge to 100% while the phone is off..i heard that this might help.
Now i will flash Nottachtrix and do what i wrote Good luck man !

The charging thing is something that is (seemingly) well known throughout the community. I have tried to do the calibration, but it doesn't seem to work that well (at least for me). There is a thread around here somewhere for fixing the issue. I just have never tried it due to work reasons.
The charging past 99% is a known issue with most of the ROMs. There is a thread in here that takes you step by step to get it to display 100%. Basically....
Charge the phone long enough to where you know it should be at 100% even though it is still displaying 99%.
Power the phone off while it is still connected to the charger and then pull the battery.
With the battery pulled, power the phone back on until you see the battery indicator with the "?".
Put the battery back in and reboot.
You will then see the display of 100% with the phone still connected to the charger. The only downside is that as soon as you disconnect the charger, it will drop back to 99%. I have done this multiple times.
You can try the latest nightly: update-cm-7-20120508-NIGHTLY-olympus-signed.zip
I read good things about it.
First of all, use Wipe Battery Stats function at recovery.
1 - Discharge all your smartphone battery;
2 - Connect it to the wall charger and don't turn it on;
3 - Wait till it shows you 100%;
4 - Remove the battery, wait 10 seconds, put it again and keep it turned off;
5 - Wait 30 minutes, keep it connected to the wall charger and press power button till it turns on;
6 - Wait 30 minutes, keep it connected to the wall charger and use Battery Calibration App to calibrate it;
It doesn't make any sense, but sometimes, after step 5, i prefer connect it to usb port in a laptop or computer and wait one hour. It always worked with me.
It might solve your problem .
Wiping battery stats does nothing. it just takes a few charge cycles. If it's a new rom and it's draining fast it's also cause you are probably playing with it a lot

It could be a bluesleep problem... Install CPU Spy App and look if it goes into deep sleep mode. If not, there is a fix for it.
Aside from the OP's issue with the battery draining quickly, why does it matter if it doesn't show 100%?
Nothing can ever 'really' be 100% charged because as soon as you take it off mains it is instantly on the battery at lets say 99.9999%...
As long as the battery doesn't drain quickly I couldn't care less if its showing 99 or 100%.
The problem was that it was draining very quickly to smt like 50% and then it would hold longer...I just wiped everything, restored a neutrino 2.7 nandroid backup i had, flashed the jug fix v2 and now it shows 100%

Battery, problem doing my head in :(

make a test disabling the data/wifi and bluetooth, don't use full brightness in the screen after that use it normally if in those conditions the battery still drains in 3 hours then I dare to say that is something in the hardware of the phone
DONE all of that ! tried everything trust me well i think ive tried everything, im on stock rom now, calibrating my battery again and again till i get 100% after restart, because whenever i charge it charges in like 20 minutes, lets see how i go, sometimes with 30% battery i get 4 hours, sometimes with 100% battery i get 4 hours battery, makes no sense whatsoever.
If u want u can tried to change a new battery

you would never get 100% after restart because the phone uses battery when booting and loading the system.
calibrating if you are talking about the option that erase the file that have the stats of the battery that isn't going to change anything if your phone discharge in x minutes it will still discharge in that same amount of time because that method of calibration is a kind of reset to the %display in the phone nothing else.
if you can. try measuring the mA of the battery after charging it with a tester, then measure it again when the phone display something like 50% of charge it shouldn't vary a lot if the battery is in a good state.
but you in the first post said that you have tried with a new battery and still get the same time. and at the same time say that you have tried the phone with the data off. and get discharged quickly. if that is accurate then your phone have some kind of hardware failure that is making it use more battery than necessary, so you should send it to repair.
ps: also you can check the phone signal if you are in an area with poor reception the phone will use more battery because it will need to use more potency to establish a link with the cell tower.

nope not in an area with poor signal, ok im thinkin its an hardware failure as well, i might need to buy an external charger , my charging port might be screwed up, but like when i let my battery die down a little bit, and then i calibrate when it is at about 40% i then wipe battery stats and restart phone its at 22% and it stayed at 22% all night i didnt put it too charge and i listened to music for about 30 minutes or so, now i dont know what the f*** is going on i love my x10 mini pro, i just want this solved
I sort of got this kind of problem when i was running MiniCM2.2.0. It really buggered up the battery, it would lose about 7 or 8 percent when i was just looking at the lockscreen after powering up my phone.
Sometimes it will just drain like in no time at all, complain that i have to charge it, but when I turn off the phone and restart it, and it will say i'm at 60 percent. sometimes that is true, sometimes not, i only put it on the charger when I'm reasonably sure there is no power left, ie, if after a restart of two or three it will still say i'm under 10%.
So, whenever it runs out of power,do a restart and see how much power you've got left. don't charge it until you're absolutely sure you have to. Still not sure where it leads to, but I don't think i'll get back the battery-endurance i had before., which was about 3 or 4 days on fairly minimal use, without 3g or wifi.
(PS: Don't wipe battery stats until the phone is fully charged. Charging it from just about nothing to 100% in one go and then wiping the stats seems to give me best result.)

hmmmm yes thats like my problem, ive wipe the battery at 100 most the time, and it works, but not well enough at all. ill try that buddy ! thanks and i might have a solution in mind, i think it is our phones charging capability not only the roms fault, cause im at stock now and still same problem, im going to try charge battery externally see where it gets me
did you tried with another charger ?

yep ive tried different charger and charging through USB. same thing charges to 100% really fast, and comes back down really fast, every single time i restart my phone after it has charged to one hundred percentage drops by 20% until it has come to its real charged percentage i think it is in the hardware of my phone, am i able to connect a bst38 battery to an old nokia to try charge the phone?

Weird battery problem

Okay, I have a weird battery problem and I don't know how to fix it. I'll give a description and then details of what I'm running.
So, last night I drained my phone and took out the battery to put things on the sd card and then I plugged it in and went to bed. I was late in waking up because, for some reason, my phone was dead. Very odd. I tried turning it on, and it turned on, showed that it was charging, and then proceeded to die. I tried again and again and I noticed weird things. I have the battery bar on top and the charging animation (shows bar sliding from right to left when charging) and the animation goes off about 5 times and then stops. The battery percentage is green, and setcpu changes to charging state, but the phone doesn't charge. I went into Settings > Battery and it said it wasn't charging. I don't understand what's going on and how to fix this. By some miracle, I factory reset and wiped and reinstalled the kernel and the rom and it charged as I left it at home for like 5 hours, but now i don't know how to fix it because while the charging state changes, the battery doesn't charge. Also, something else that is really weird is that with the stock battery, I installed battery calibration to see if I had just discharged the battery fully and it just needed more mAh to start charging, but my 2500 mAh stock batter is showing up as 3710 mAh (now. Was higher earlier).
P.S I restored the rom after it was charged and it doesn't charge anymore (still changes state, but no actual charging. I have two batteries, so I tried with the other and neither of them charge. I feel like it's a kernel issue and I could easily just flash another rom, but I would like to get to the bottom of this issue first)
ROM: King Kang July 16
Kernel: h0tkernel-r5
2500 mAh stock battery
Only using SetCPU to overclock and underclock
Flashed the rom a few days ago and it worked just fine.
The battery had been out of the phone for a good few hours in a cool room before I put it back on charging
(If you need more info, let me know)
Are you plugged into the wall or a computer USB port?
And just to clarify, you are using the stock battery, right? It's a little confusing because it sounds like maybe you weren't, but then in the list of items at the bottom you say you are using the stock battery.
I am plugged into the wall and using the stock battery. I just used the other battery to make sure it wasn't the battery's fault. Also, tell me if this screenshot makes any sense. This is from last night and I switched over to the jelly bean ROM too.

That looks like your screen is constantly on. That would drain the battery quickly. You may also have one or more rogue apps that are draining your battery.
You should definitely install Better Battery Stats to get a better picture of what's going on. The developer has a thread on xda where you can get help if you post the log from BBS.

The app is attach to the second post or it is available in the play store.

It's just the clock app in night mode. I've done that with every other rom I've ever had and now I'm unable to for some reason. I've always had night mode clock on my dock every night. I don't understand why this issue started now. I'll download BBS and see what it reports in a day or two. For now, this problem is still here even though I switched to the Jelly Bean rom.

Battery Only Charges to 70%

I have searched the forums but not found a thread which is similar to my problem.. I know there are battery drain issues with wifi etc but this is wierd and only started happening a few days back.
Basically i plug phone in to charge and it charges completely normally and quickly as it used to but only charges up to about 68/70% then it basically stops charging any higher, LED still red, charging display over battery still there. Turning phone off, rebooting, unplugging and plugging charger back in all makes no difference!
Any ideas what could be the cause of this? how to resolve?
I'm on stock JB, using the official wall charger and USB cable and i made sure the battery was full when i updated to JB as well.
Try a different battery, these are getting to the point where some will start to fail, six month warranties on batteries for a reason.
Well i have a £1.99 spare battery in atm as i run the original battery completely flat today. Seriously though be surprised if battery fail after 3/4 mths - never had battery dying issues on previous phones i've had until they were a good 2/3 years old.. Always a first though LOL
Its like the battery is saying its fully charged at 70%, now its completely flat i will charge it overnight with the phone off to full (if it gets there) and see if is resets the battery callibration or something.
Try to wipe battery stats via cwm recovery/advanced.

It has nothing to do with wiping battery stats. I think Kangburra is right...
UPDATE.
Shamed to say that i am not rooted yet... I have been there and done all that on my old phone ZTE Blade, but i really like the added functions that TW brings and don't suffer much in the way of anoying redraws or lag etc (although i do feel that TW could be optomised alot better along with better RAM Management)
I was going to at least root to sim unlock but got a sim free unlocked phone so had no need, then other stuff i wanted to do like freeze samsung apps etc is all possible without root and i've not come across that "I" need root at the moment.. was going to for APPS2ROM but i got no need to free up space yet.
Cheers for the suggustions though - I have that battery callibration app already (from old phone days) obviously don't work though.
Anyway - I am monitoring battery atm but it seems that running the battery completely flat until it turned itself off and charging overnight with battery off has resolved this issue - maybe this reset the battery stats and recalibrated it.
Its back to normal now, charges upto 100% as normal!! Fingers crossed this was just a blip

[Q] Battery used up suddenly

hi,
I recently change from rom IC stock to JB stock (Spain). Every thing is fine except after working with phone for some time & battery used up to 25%, suddenlly the signal drops & phone shuts down. I cannot turn on the phone unless I plug in the charger where my battery is 0%. Also after flashing to JB, I wiped the data in recovery.
Phone is NOT root & battery is brand new.
Thanx

Actually I had the same problem with my old battery. I was advised to change the battery; with the brand new one, I left it charge fully to 100% for 6 hours as per instruction, then turn the phone on as the aforementioned problem occurred again. Again put it on charge for couple of hours to 100% charge then reboot the phone. Right now every thing looks Ok but I am worried why it happened with the new battery. is it the rom or the phone?
