[Q] Root Failed! - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I rooted my verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 when I first got it with no problem.
A week ago I was misled by Verizon's sucky PC software to "repair" my phone. I inadvertently wiped the whole thing and it was returned to factory preset status, so the root was gone.
Now I'm trying to re-root the phone, but with no luck. I boot my phone into download mode fine. But everytime I try to get Odin to flash the "SCH-I545_MD2_423399_Kernel.tar.md5" rom, it fails at the first step! It just says "Fail", and that's the end of it.
I'm clueless about what to do. I've tried different USB cables, restarted both devices multiple times. I even tried unpacking the tar file before opening Odin.
Can anyone advise? I'm out of ideas.

Unfortunately, it seems as if you took the OTA Update, at this time I don't know if we have root abilities, or Loki/unlocked bootloader hack...
Many people have done this, you're not alone. Have patience, the great team of dev that are in this community are working on it.
Best of kick

[Q] Failing to update, reset

Hi all, I originally rooted my phone using this post several months ag http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2380325
I'm still fairly new to the dealings of root, and have found that I only used it to have access to a couple of cool apps that required root and at that rate I don't even use any more. That being said, I finally accepted the most recent update being okay that I would likely loose my root access. The update kept failing, I assumed because of the root. I backed up my personal data, and performed a factory reset from the phone. The phone still has superuser from the reset and still fails to update. Could someone help me return my phone to fully stock configuration? Thanks!

Find out what odin is. Then..
Google "odin emergency tar (your build number here)" or something to that effect.
If you don't know your build number then you have some more research to do. Good luck.
I'd recommend using the Verizon update assistant. Much easier, but takes about half an hour to do:
1) Connect phone to PC using USB cord
2) When prompted for what action to take when this device is connected, select Verizon update assistant. Installation will take a few minutes.
3) Start the update assistant and confirm that you want to update the phone. The update will take a few minutes.
When the update is complete, you should have the most current update (MK2), and no root access. Should you need root again, try Saferoot - it's quick and easy:

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction guys, I'll do some more research into both and report back soon.
Help! I've researched odin, downloaded and attempted to flash the stock image. Odin failed. My phone as of now is stuck in the downloading screen.

You need to flash the same stock image as what was previously on your phone.
If you don't know what version you were on previously, flash MJ7 or MK2.

[Q] i9205 problem after ota + root

I connect my Galaxy Mega (i9205) to kies and it showed that my phone have new update. Bear in mind that my phone is rooted previously (CWM). Kies updated my phone to I9205XXUCNA3. I update my phone with no problem (it took longer time only) but unfortunately KNOX ruined everything. It keeps on saying that SuperUser is trying to access the system. Furthermore, my Wifi is not working at all. I tried to click on the toggle button but no to avail.
So after searching, I found out how to disable KNOX - By flashing using vcoreroot-v2. Done flashing with this file, and now I can't see my interna; SDCard. I'm doomed and now I don't know what to do to turn back to how it was before.
Anybody that can help me, really appreciate it.

I see that so far you have found a way to disable knox AND cripple your Mega...
IMHO the best way to fix this situation is:
1. Download once more your newest firmware I9205XXUCNA3 (e.g. from Sammobile) and flash it by Odin to resolve starting position. Or try to restore your firmware through Kies.
2. Then BEFORE YOU DO SOMETHING read forums to find information how safely root firmware with KNOX. You have to be known so probably your warranty is already void and if not so it will be on the first attempt to root your unit. You are warned... There are some threads about rooting KNOX-ed firmware and even how to come back (partially) to previous build.
BEWARE! Do not attempt to flash older firmware lest you brick your Mega. New bootloader prevent from downgrading and if you try you will have endless bootloop. Upgradindg to newest firmware is one way trip.
OK I've followed your advise:
1. Re-download I9205XXUCNA3 from Sammobile and flash using odin.
2. Re-apply vcoreroot-v2
and after reboot.... WALLA!! My phone is back to normal again! And same goes to my internal SDCard, back as normal.
I have a problem with messaging where it keeps on crashing at first. But then I boot into recovery, clear cache and apply factory reset.
Now, all back to normal.
Anyhow, thank you so much for the tips. Now I can ease out a bit

I am glad you are successful. Sometimes you have to repeat two times, but no more: one for download errors, two for your errors. But if then you are not successful... then you have to look for another solution...
Can I know what rom u are using before updating to stock rom using kies?

[Q] Help... Stuck in boot loop Sprint SM-N900P

Ive been searching posts and trying to follow all directions without worrying anybody as I know you all are busy. However I have finally gotten myself into a bootloop. I have a sprint Sm-n900p I rooted with chainfire method successfully. I felt confident after that and decided to try to setup to use with straight talk wireless (Which is the ultimate goal) I flashed the Modem.tar.md5 file to the phone via odin based on the thread (Domestic Sim Unlock For T-Mobile/AT&T or MVNO's Solved (N900P) and now it continually reboots.

Have you tried booting into recovery and doing a wipe then rebooting some times that and a power pull will get the job down if not then the only other way is to flash the full firmware for the phone again via odin

Please Help Recover from Failed Flash on OC1

Hey,
Sorry total noob at messing with my phone, buuuuuut I tried to (foolishly) downgrade my Verizon sch-i545 from OC1 because I hate it. I tried to flash back to MDK using ODIN 3.4, 3.7, AND 3.9 all of which failed. From what I can find it seems like flashing to anything from a Verizon sch-i545 running OC1 is destined to fail due to something contained in the update. Is this correct? Since the failed flash, I can't get my phone to turn back on normally, it just gives me the "Software Update Failed, use verizon software repair assistant..." which from what I can find is downloaded from the phone when you plug it in? But it didn't seem to do so for mine when I initially plugged it in to back up files. I can't find an online source to download the verizon software from. So basically I'm asking for help on just getting my phone functioning again? It doesn't seem like I've bricked it, but I don't know what to do after a failed flash? Can I download the 5.0.1 firmware and flash it using odin and it will actually work because it's 5.0.1? I'm tired of waiting 2 hrs to download a firmware to have it immediately fail haha. Or is there another much simpler way to get it out of this mode and back to just running normal ****ty lollipop? I can get the phone back into download mode, but that's it. Thanks for any help. Sorry if anything is silly or redundant, tried searching for hours without finding much.
Thanks.

Ok I have already gone down this road myself.
First can you get your phone into download mode ? If so re-flash the original firmware. This file is on the XDA site somewhere ,I remember seeing it. I loaded mine at a very slow download took hours , did it over night . I have had to redo my phone several times trying with Odin after countless lockups.
The OC1 can not be changed it has a locked boot-loader that can not be unlocked @ this time. So no downgrade changes of ant kind. You CAN NOT GO BACK I highly suggest you read more on this site to help you better.
There is only a handful of ROMs you can install & they have to be OC1 compatable

Thanks! That worked like a charm. If anyone else sees this and is in a similar situation, flashing the OC1 back definitely work the first time. I had to try and try again, different USB ports, pull the battery out, wait, and try again. Eventually with persistence it worked.

Bricked my phone while attempting to root

Phone: Verison Samsung Galaxy S4
Model Number: SCH-I545
I installed and ran kingroot, and it worked. So then I tried to use a thing to re-write Kingroot with supersu, and it seemed like it worked until I restarted it. Once I did that, it never went past the Verizon screen. After that point, nothing I could do worked. After hours of searching, researching, and trying new things (including a factory reset and a cache wipe), I flashed a stock ROM and it installed! But my phone still won't work.

You need to start over from scratch...
On the PC, you need to download the stock ROM and use the ODIN software on to flash it on the device.
I don't like KingRoot, I use the Wondershare software on the PC that always roots my i545 without any issues and it also installs SuperSU afterwards.

I did flash it with odin, for some reason it's still not functioning correctly.
If I do a factory reset after installing a rom, it goes to the verizon splash screen. If I don't do a factory reset, it never gets to the verizon splash screen. Last night I let it run for a while but nothing happened.
EDIT It's now working. I'm not sure what worked, but it's all in working order again

Oy Vey! I was thinking about that when I was posting the last one but, forgot to mention it. I apologize...
If my S4 gets stuck in the splash screen, i always clean the cache and do a factory reset first.
If that failed, then i do the same as above but, i then shut it down, enter download and, from ODIN, i load the factory ROM and the pit file, then flash.
The pit file has the partition information for performing clean flashes of the factory ROM's.
