[Q] Greenify GCM Push - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have asked this question at the main greenify thread but I think it's better to ask the users of the same phone rather than a whole pool of phones from different manufacturers or models.
my questions is that I know it's an experimental feature for now but what apps are working for people for GCM push? For me only Gmail is working. Facebook, Viber, Whatsapp, and other SMS apps are giving me trouble if I greenifiy them.

Viber not working too

[q] I.M. with notification on contact logins

I'm curious to know what instant messengers other people are using.
Currently I'm using trillian, and I like it, however I'd like the option to get a notification when certain contacts login (but not every contact). Is there any app that does this?
It would also be usefull if it supported multiple protocols, I'd rather not have multiple i.m. apps running at once.
tried IM+....only other multi client I know of with a decent gui...not sure about individual alerts based on contact
Should try talk.to. Amazingly simple UI and works really well.
https://market.android.com/details?id=to.talk
I forgot to mention, I need to use a messenger that works over data and not sms since I don't have a messaging plan. also I read this comment under the talk.to comments section "Changing the status of all my accounts to a Talk.to promotion without asking is completely unacceptable, and a shame because the app works great."

[Q] Is viber spying on us?!

Hey guys,
Recently I have installed a app ops software on my android phone. First thing to do I started to restrict the permission of apps like viber, skype, hangout and ... to access the microphone and camera. The attached image shows what I get every two or three minutes. Since I get this message when viber is not working on foreground, does it mean that viber tries to use the camera without my permission? is it spying on us? Why don't I get the same notification from other apps?
Thanks

Hey, what app ops software you using on your android?
Recently, I've used two apps Cameraless and Microphone Guard to restrict usage of my camera and microphone, unless I give explicit permission.
Since I started using these 2 apps, I've been receiving messages like "Failure to initialize camera", almost every 1 to 2 minutes, while I'm surfing the web and at the Google Play Store and definitely not using my camera at all.
I've read elsewhere that Viber is trying to use my camera, but since the message does not explicitly say it is Viber the culprit, if I can get access to your app ops software, I can do some investigation on this matter.
There're 44 apps on my phone that have the rights to access my camera, but since I installed the Cameraless, and activated it, I hope none of the apps will try to access the phone without my explicit permission, but this message is disturbing, defintely.

[Q] Free calling/SMS apps

(mods move if this is the wrong section)
What do you guys believe are some of the best free calling/SMS apps for android. Only ones that go over the internet, but reach any phone without needing the app installed on the other phone.
So not like Skype etc, but like groove ip, and dingaling. I need it to be free, (excluding data charges of course), and to be able to make calls/texts from Australia to Australia. I don't mind if you suggest two separate apps.
The reason I would like this is I am considering getting a tablet data plan for my phone, and just doing everything over the internet.
Thanks for the help!

Viber or WhatsApp
But i prefer viber.
There's also: BBM (but it's laggy )
Free sms would be like @MihailoZoric
Whatsapp, Viber, telegram , we chat , line,
There is no exclusive "free" calling app
Hangouts can call other users but they charge after 1st minute at different rates.
You will need play stre credit
Same thing with viber, skype and other calling apps.
Thanks for your replies, but I was looking for apps that can call/text phones without the app both people having the app, eg dumbphones and landlines.

Hangouts ,skype and others can call landlines and dumbphones. Except you have to pay for calling to landlines and dumbphones. If you want free communication then you need to have app installed.

Yeah, I'm looking for something that gives me free calls to landlines and dumbphones. I have found apps, but they were mostly US only. That's why I'm asking for suggestions.
Bump
Set up a Google Voice account and download hangouts & hangouts dialer. In the hangouts settings menu check voice and text options. Verify you have linked the apps by going to the Google Voice app settings & there should be a new notification indicating you have successfully paired the apps. Now you can call and text free over WiFi via Hangouts Dialer

[Q] Greenify and WhatsApp Calling

Hi
I have noticed that with Greenify hibernating WhatsApp, contacts calling my phone via the new WhatsApp call service never rings. On their side, it just rings and rings and I never answer. On my side though, nothing happens which is why I never answer the call. If I open WhatsApp, then the missed calls notifications from WhatsApp.
It would seem that Greenify can't intercept the incoming WhatsApp calls and wake-up the hibernated WhatsApp to accept the calls.
Can anybody confirm this?
Thanks
Whatsapp, Facebook etc use all kinds of circumventions to go around standard android behaviour. Greenify expects standard android behaviour and is made keeping that in mind.
In addition, for every update to these apps, there are some new issues. No Dev can keep abreast of such issues.
So if you experience problems, ungreenify Whatsapp.
Yes, I have determined that I must un-greenify WhatsApp to receive WhatsApp calls.
Hopefully the developer can have a look into it
Have exactly same problem here.
I hope there will be a quick fix

Not all push functionalities are backed by GCM. See more explanation on the sticky post for GCM push.

Dear mate,
For explanation about problem, if its helps;
Using Greenify donation with xposed, rooted and all experimental page is checked.
Never had issue with whatsapp messages, everything was fine and still fine.
Only problem is whatsapp call feature like mentioned here, it dosent wake up phone and you get missed call only when you manually open whatsapp.
For try, i degreenified whatsapp (removed from list inside greenify) and send a message from it for be sure its started manually.
Still when screen off problem continues...
Thanks for your support in advance.
Have you tried changing the notification settings in Whatsapp?

What is a good Instant Messenger and Audio Calls client for Windows 10?

I've been using Skype for ages, but recently it does its jobs poorly.
A lot of time I receive notifications late, it does not ring, and I completely stopped getting any new messages in one of my group chats, which led me to miscommunicate and fallback to Facebook Messenger. That's just to name the recent issues.
I am looking for a descent widely used replacement, that people would consider reliable. I can really type my emojis by hand. Any suggestions?
WhatsApp
Most of ppl I know use Viber. it's more pollished app, but development for win10mobile is stopped, there is no black mode for viber so it will drain more of battery, so use WhatsApp .
