Hello
Before android 4 there was a vpn option which let you use l2tp protocol without ipsec, on android 4 google decided to remove it and force l2tp/ipsec
The reason for this is
The old l2tp connection are working solid while l2tp/ipsec is blocked in my country
Is there any way and by way I mean hack, app, settings .. anything will let me use l2tp vpn without ipsec?
Current android ver is 4.0.3

Hi to all,
i'm trying to connect to my work cisco vpn, but on foliomod1.4 i can't find ipsec like vpn on galaxy S.
i tried using one vpn but doesn't works.
Somebody can help me?
tnks
I don't know of any cisco VPN client for android, but you can tried to set a regular IPsec VPN connection towards a cisco concentrator, ASA, or IOS router. Are you using certificates or a pre-shared key?
IPSec is quite hard on CPU if you have a choice you can ask for a layer 2 VPN instead.
i was hoping that the new version would fix the ipsec vpn, but i cant seem to get it working. i create the ipsec vpn profile and it connects great, i tell it the network i want to pass traffic, 10.0.0.0/8. but i get 0 packets transmitted and i cannot talk to anything over the vpn. is there something i am doing wrong? i do have root access, is there another vpn client i can install to get ipsec vpn working?
thanks for you help.
Hi.
I want to connect to a vpn server by PPTP.I can connect to the server over 3G,but It doesn't connect over WiFi.
Sometimes when I turn on Fly Mode,it connects, but this happens sometimes. Also I'm sure that vpn server is up and running.
But there's no problem when I want to connect to that server by L2TP/IPSEC with PSK.
My Phone is Galaxy S3 running Android 4.0.4.
Please guide me how to fix this problem.
Thank you

As ridiculous as it sounds, this is a known bug in ICS.
It may (or may not) be fixed in JB (you'll have to ask someone else).
However, as ICS allows you to use third-party VPN protocols, there are some great OpenVPN clients in the market, if your VPN provider supports it. This is the solution I had to accept
Both CM10 as well as the leaked JB ROM from Samsung fix all VPN issues for me.
I just did a PPTP connection with my router running DD-WRT and didn't have any problems. The only problem that I did have is that once I am connected I can't disconnect without doing a reboot which could be a problem with CleanROM 2.0 that I am running. At any rate it, it routed all of my data through the VPN.
I can connect to vpnreactor servers with PPTP just fine, but trying my DD-WRT box is always unsuccessful. Hopefully with stock JB it will work for me.
The OpenVPN client from PLAY works great when connecting to our Cisco 527 router at the office. No worries at all to setup and use.
Using the Citrix receiver works well through it as well. AWESOME
I have a vpn provider PIA.
But that don't care much. The problem only occur on my android phones (4.4.4 and 5.0)
Problem: I am at home, when android phone connected to vpn, i can't access other computers on my local network (no chromecast, samba share and the rest)
It's not a problem of the VPN provider, because i also have my own hosted VPS with a openvpn server on it, same issue.
At home with vpn on
Windows 8 pc with PIA vpn client. I can still access my LAN (192.168.1.1 for example).
Apple iPad with Openvpn client: I can still access my LAN
Nexus 5 - android 5.0 (with root access) - PIA vpn client / OPENvpn / PPTP vpn: cannot access my LAN.
No firewall or any other protection app on my nexus 5.
Router: ASUS RT-AC68U
192.168.1.x network.
255.255.255.0 submask
My ow suggestion is that i need to add a static route on my android device or just the opposite -> don't push LAN traffic over the vpn. But how to accomplish this?
This is maybe the same problem?
Another link with maybe some information?
How can I setup the next situation in Android 5.0?
1. All network communication of app A should be made through an VPN connection with a proxy;
2. The other apps should continue to communicate directly through the wireless connection, without any proxy.
I was partly able to do this in Android 4.4 KitKat. I configured the VPN, turned it on and configured the proxy ip and port in the wireless network details. Android started to redirect the traffic of all apps through VPN and proxy.
When I do the same in Android 5.0, the result is worst! The apps simply continue to use the wireless connection directly, without any consideration of the VPN and proxy.
Thanks guys.
