Phone won't send/receive texts.. - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I almost never use sms, but lately I tried to and apparently it's not working... What could be the problem? Bad modem? Missing system file? Or is it a network issue?
I'm using Omega v46.1

You might need to enter the correct service center number. Call your operator.
Had a similar problem, couldn't receive sms, but could send. Was advised to get a newer sim card (mine was 5 years old) and to do a master reset on the phone. Worked for me. Reseting sucks.

i did call my operator. at first, they gave me a sms center no. but i couldn't find the setting to enter the no. then i called again and was advised to call se service centre for help. my phone is an unlocked Germany version while i live in China. so i wasn't given a spefic answer. they just said the sim card was recognised by the phone automatically so normally changing sim card won't cause any problem.

Report back if that worked. I'm curious.

[Q] Has anybody realized there is a problem w/ setting call forwarding when on WiFi?

When on cellular data, this works fine. But when I'm on Wi-Fi, it doesn't work half of the time. I've tried different modems, and the problem is always there. Also, I realized that it takes the phone three times longer to send a text message when on Wi-Fi than it does on cell network. Anybody experiencing similar problems?

Edit: forgot to say - lack of cell coverage is not an issue. H+ available where the problem occurs.

Problem with the phone app

Hi guys... I have a problem and I hope you can help me.
When I do some calls. The phone just goes finish. A message appears and says that the android.phone has stopped.
I'm just root, I use the stock rom and I use Go Launcher
Help me please....
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
have you been flashing custom Roms/restoring data with tb? I suggest clearing data of the phone.apk 1st, and see if this sorts the problem
I clear the data but the message still appearing. " the process com.android.phone has stopped"

...are you on stock or custom Rom?
I'm stock room. I just root the phone and use Go Launcher

you can try a factory reset but be aware you will lose your data doing this so backup first
If I do a factory reset Is it ok if I make a backup or not ?

A factory restore is the only one solution??. Help me please.....

I'm having the same problem, but only when calling or receiving from one number in my contacts. Sometimes the call completes but with the error on the screen and a circle instead of network in the notification bar. The number never shows in call log either even though I've had a conversation or missed call.
The contact is on tesco mobile in the UK, I am on giffgaff. Both are through the O2 network.
I never have this problem with any other contacts.

Could the problem be the contacts.???. I have this problem with a contact. So I erase that name from my contacts. Then when I call the number again it goes well. Maybe there is a problem with contacts and phone ???. I really dont know.

I don't think the problem is with your rom..
Maybe your card is something wrong. Put a different sim card and check. If the problem still re-upload the rom with a full wipe

first try clearing Data/Cache of MMS app and see if it resolves ur issue, else reflash the rom without any wipes and see
So far i have:
Cleaned sms app cache and data.
Tried changing message center number.
Done full wipe and flashed another rom.
Installed handcent sms app.
Very strange, still no luck??
I have put my sim in another phone and it was able to send an sms, so it is definately phone related...

I dial in *#*#4636#*#* and go to message center box. There are two buttons, 'update' and 'refresh'. My message center number is +905428700044. What is the correct procedure to enter this number?

Hi I had this exact same problem a few months ago after flashing a custom ROM. To fix it had to do the following:
Flash a stock ROM
Open sms app and go onto settings
Check number in sms centre number matches your service providers number.
I ended up calling my provider for this and she talked me through it.
Sorry about vague information but it was a while ago. It is totally and easily fixable though. All the best.

Contacts not opening

I have the galaxy S2 but, it's the SCH-R760. What happens is when I tap the contacts app my screen goes black, then pops up the message android process acore has stopped working. My phone is rooted. It's been rooted for a few months now, and this issue just started last week. Anybody have any ideas on the problem, and a fix?

Did you flash a ROM? Or tried flashing one and coming back to stock?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
I have not flashed since there is no recovery that I can find for my phone. So I wouldn't know how without that.

I had skype installed, and once I removed it my contacts work again. Why would skype cause that problem?

As Skype does request to access your contact list it is proably related to that.
You might have to try setting your contacts as a default.
I noticed in the past that sometimes it would ask me if I wanted to call contacts using Skype or Phone so my assumption is that somthing with the defaults is causing it to check Skype but it is also causing it to crash
So you're guess is the default contact app got changed to skype right? That makes sense. Whenever I dailed out it asked if I wanted to use skype or the dailer. Thanks

This happened to me once. I had no choice but to delete contacts data from settings and then restore from old backups....
Everything was OK then.

I've deleted skype and all us right in the world again.
