Daylight Savings Time - AT&T HTC One (M7)

I am noticing a weird issue with my HTC One and my Facebook calendar appointments. Because there is no specific setting about daylight savings time the phone changes Central time to GMT-5 instead of GMT-6. My appointments from Facebook now are an hour off. If I force my phone to another GMT-6 location they are correct. I do not want to have to manually worry about my time zone.

you have auto date/time/timezone on, correct?

I do have it on. I think the issue has to do with the fact that the HTC One changes the GMT time for daylight savings time instead of just adjusting the clock. Facebook sees that GMT time as -5 instead of -6 and changes the event times.

[Q] Clock gone mad

Hi, I thought someone could help me out here. Clock on my htc hd2 gone mad. Let me explain.
At some point last week after I installed new ROM (Omega) I've noticed that clock on my phone started to show wrong time (only hours are wrong, minutes are always correct). Event if I correct time manually they will add 2 hours to this time at some point during the day. I've checked time zone, and it is correct (GMT). The other locale settings are correct as well. I'm not sure if it happened right after I've installed this ROM or few days later. Few days ago I've installed different ROM (ChuckyROM lite), I've never had any problems with it. But again the same problem. I haven't installed any additional applications except from Microsoft MyPhone to sync contacts and texts(Time zone in myphone web interface is set to GMT as well).
Here are details shown on load:
r:2.09.50.29_2
g:15.36.50.07U
d:3.14.0466 8G
Any ideas?
Its because of the DST change recently.....
this cab from Dutty should solve it, install, soft reset, set the correct time and everything should be ok.
and check that you are dont have the intenet time ticked in the settings
because everytime you connect to your pc it will check the internet time and correct it
or just disable time synchronization, settings>menu>all settings>personal>GSM/UMTS servs>Time synchronization and untick.
And also you can choose to sync time in settings>data services, Internet time sync.
It helps me
Great, thank you all.
Hopefully I'll no longer will wake up at 5am because of wrong time in alarm clock
It's a DST problem
DST Means Daylight Savings Time, also known as Summertime.
The problem is caused by NITZ (Network Identity and Time Zone) a service hidden in:
Windows Settings >> Personal >> Phone >> GSM/UMTS Services >> Time synchronization.
This service does set the phone clock back into Summertime mode in registry.
See this post for more info.

Man, you are a life saver. I was just about ready to put an ad to sell my hd2, cause I am using it for my work and appointments are crucial to me.
The cab works fine

After we (UK) changed to daylight saving I had many of the random time changes that others on here had. I unchecked the time sync in the menus and then all was well...
That was until I noticed that now whenever I receive a text message from anyone on whichever network - the time that shows on the text is one hour ahead of the actual time. E.g. if I receive a text in the afternnon at 4:00pm the text message will show 5:00pm.
Any ideas?

Same here.
4:00pm phone time, 5:00pm text message time and 3:00pm G-alarm time.
Confusing? Yes.

[Q] Atrix Time Zone Bug

I work and live in different time zones, I noticed the atrix doesnt update the time unless I turn off the wireless and then re-enable it. Is this supposed to be normal?
settings -> Date and time
is automatic checked? how often are you on wifi, and how often on mobile data? I'm not sure it gets a constant check when on wifi.

The time is technically correct except for it is an hour less than it should be. It is set to automatic, im on wifi 20% of the day the rest mobile data. If I turn on airplane mode then turn it back off the correct time is displayed. I think they may have a bug
I travel for business quite and go between time-zones. I also find same issue happening with my new Atrix phone. If I turn the airplane mode on and off several times, time correct based on time zone I am in. Automatic date and time setting checked on.
Hi Everyone,
Atrix did not adjust automatically the time fthis morning. Is anybody else experiencing this issue?
In date and time the 'automatic' settings is checked.
I had to reboot for the time to be automatically updated.
Thank you.
Alarm went off an hour earlier than all the manually set clocks.
No glitch here. In Indiana on an eastern time zone.
I travel for work and the Atrix has worked fine for me in different time zones. My captivate failed to auto-switch one time though - so i think it has something to do with tower signals more then phone.
I reported this at launch, Im in indiana and live in CST but work in EST. This phone has not correctly changed timezones once, and didnt even update to the correct time for daylight savings time yesterday. The only way i've found to fix is either turn on/ turn off airplane mode or cycle power.

[Q] Synch interval with gmail?

So I tried to get my work to get me a blackberry because I need to check my work email when I am not there at nights, weekends, etc. They saw I had a thunderbolt but I tried explaining how the battery wouldn't last. Well that wasn't good enough so today I synched my works email (corporate gmail account) to my phone and I am getting the push notifications just like I wanted, and the battery is terrible just as I said it would be. Is there any way to adjust how often it checks for new mail to push notifications through? I feel like there has to be some way but I searched and found nothing for the thunderbolt. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Not sure if this would work for you, but you could go into your accounts & sync setting and uncheck the autoupdate for your google business account (since I don't have one, not sure if it will allow you separate out google accounts). Then only go in and manually sync it when you need it?
The only thing with that is I have to manually sync which defeats the purpose of it

How much mail do you actually get pushed?
I get quite a bit of mail to my regular google account because I've tied all my other accounts to my google account and I don't have any real issue with extreme battery drain?
I had an android since the G1 first came out and with each successive phone I've gotten, I've never noticed that mail is a real big battery drain on any of them.
I would say 15-20 mails a day. However one of our clients is west coast based so I tend to get a lot after I leave work. This is definitely a battery killer by multiple hours. I'm going to try my damndest to get a blackberry and show them how awful it is but I need something in the mean time to get me through the day. My phone didn't last 9-6 today
I can't believe something as simple as an interval adjustment isn't built into the gmail app. I searched all over and several people have asked this but there is never a solution. I wonder if I could use another email app that is adjustable instead of the official gmail app.
The easiest solution is to check one of the apps, such as Juice Defender, that can turn off your network connection when not in use. You can set them to periodically enable them to turn data back on to allow things like emails to come through.
And GMail push notifications act just like Blackberry-style push notifications of email. It isn't constantly checking the server for new emails. It gets notified only when new emails arrive. Something else is likely causing your battery problems, not the push notifications. I'd check some of the battery threads around for other tips to increase battery life before making any major changes.
I've never heard of email being the culprit to any battery problems, so you might want to see if there are some rogue apps you have that are causing this battery drain.
As for email, I use Tasker. I have a profile that turns auto-sync on at 6:15 AM and every three hours after that at a quarter past, then I have a profile that turns auto-sync off at 6:17 AM and every three hours, so I only get email at a quarter past, every three hours
Not sure how elegant of a solution this is for you as you work for a company and might have some emails that you need to respond to ASAP.

I use Tasker as well, with it checking only between 6:30am - midnight. However, I check mine every 20 minutes normally. If they need to get in touch with me faster than that, they should have called in the first place. I played with Juice Defender prior to discovering Tasker though, and it is much easier to set up.(Just not nearly as powerful as Tasker, which I love playing with)

Push is more efficient than interval, that is why you don't see interval adjustments.
Well as others have said, I don't think it's the emails causing your issues. I get way more emails than that in a day and my phone comes off charger around 5am and doesn't usually get back on a charger until at least 9pm or later. I'm not saying I still have half a charge left, but I also don't have my phone yelling at me to plug it in either because it's low.
Hmm good to know about how those push notifications work. I guess it's just a coincidence that when I synched my email a couple days ago that I noticed the battery went noticeably down. I might try out tasker though. Thanks
It could have been also your signal strength when you were trying to sync that could have caused a bigger drain.
If you had a weak signal, your phone would have been trying to "juice" up the connection to keep you connected resulting in a larger than normal battery drain.
Just a thought.
this is true since I moved from central jersey (manalapan) to North Jersey (wallington) I am now in 4g constantly and maybe I should look into switching to 3g for a bit.

I’m sure the refresh time would depend on your wifi settings. On that same note there is a known issue with the wifi turning off while on stand by mode. From my experience when I am using my tablet emails come up right away. When I wake up in the morning the green light is always flashing so I think when it’s in standby mode it checks intermediately. But I should mention that I have my wifi settings to never turn off. Hopefully there will be a fix on this issue with the ICS update. Good luck!
I have never had to adjust the refresh times for the gmail app. I just tested it to be sure, and I always get emails on my tablet, and phone for that matter, within seconds of them showing as received to my gmail account.
perhaps your issue is not with gmail or its app.

Clock has wrong time!

Hi Guys,
Ive spent a good amount of time today getting HyperDrive 15 (with safestrap) on my Vzw GS4. Its on and configured the way I like it, except for one thing.
The time is 1 hour ahead of what it should be. I think its not accounting for daylight saving time.
I can manually enter the timezone and it displays the correct time, but as soon as I switch it to get the time from the network, it bumps the time forward an hour.
Ive even tried the "Clock Sync" app and it also shows the time (both atomic and device) as being 1 hour ahead of what it should be.
Ive looked all over and I cant figure out how to get the network time to display the right time.
Any advice?

What time zone are you in?
You say it's "not accounting for daylight savings time" but if daylight savings time is on, then you would be 1 hour ahead of standard time, which would account for you showing one hour fast if you're in an area that doesn't observe DST.
If the "Automatic time zone" is putting you in the wrong zone, then switch that off, set the proper timezone, and then see how it goes. If that works, try turning "Automatic time zone" back on - if that pushes you an hour ahead, contact your network provider and ask them to fix it.

Im on mountain time. When i use network time, it causes the phone to be 1 hour ahead of what it should be. I can uncheck those, set the time, then recheck "use network time" and the time will stay correct, but if I set it to use the network time zone, then it causes the time to move forward an hour again.
