Hey guys, I am looking for a simple but good and secure FTP Server for Android. If possible also something that includes a possibility of DynDNS and on top of that, maybe even free and not something that must be "Upgraded" as a payed app to get these features. If there is nothing free that can do all that, what would be the next thing that costs a bit but still is not that expensive considering its only for occasional use.
Any help is appreciated.

I've tried them all... I think AIM 2.0 is still the best one one (for AIM only).
IMO the best is Slick. It has the most features and is still free!
AIM 2.0 (UK version) if you want AIM only... its YEARS old now, but it runs just fine on the Titan.
If you want a multi-IM client, I use Palringo and I love it. I've tried just about every IM client available, and Palringo is my favorite, especially since it takes up minimal memory.
only problem with aim 2.0 is you cant see mobile users or see their text if they im you
Palringo can't see the icon when users are on mobile either, but you can see the user as being online. I wish we would have an IM program that can compare to other devices. we need something like the sidekick or jivetalk. With jivetalk and sk, you can see buddy icons and when users are mobile. I can only wait...
The biggest problem is that pretty much all the IM clients out there for Windows Mobile are relatively new. It will take some time for them to come out with new version that increase their capabilities, etc. There is no perfect mobile IM client out there right now.

i see...so far im liking slickim, also tried palringo for a bit and that seemed good too. loved the addvoice and addpicture functions.

I've tried EVERY AIM client on the market, including AIM 2.0, IM+, and the VeriChat PPC beta. I just tried Palringo and I'm really surprised. It's very very nice. Give it a shot!
I have agile and I just tried Palringo. The picture function works fine on both. However, the Push to talk is a little better in agile b/c I dont have to download the talk. In agile, I can just click the link and i plays.
But, Palringo supports the little messages under your sn that the newer aims have. Agile doesn't b/c they haven't updated in awhile.
I just tried palringo and I'd still recommend agile messenger. Agile is more like the sidekick, and handles multiple conversations. Palringo only lets you talk with 1 person at a time unfortunately, and loses everything you said or was said to you when you switch to another person. I also like how Agile lets you have vibration or a custom sound when you receive a new message whereas palringo was a quiet "dink" sound with no vibration option. Palringo also seems to frequently disconnect claiming "You have been logging off and on too frequently" - according to its forums they have been having problems with AIM in particular for a few months. Palringo looks like one of the better looking free ones I've tried, but if you're willing to pay (and agile is unfortunately rather expensive, especially for phone software) agile seems better to me.
Palringo does look like something to keep an eye on though.
Hi, im thinking of buyin me one of theese nice x10 mini and I was wondering if anyone has tried the Citrix Receiver on its 2.55 screen. Can anyone tell me how good does it works? Here in Argentina I dont have the pro version available yet, but im inlove with this phone, but the Citrix part is the one thats holds me from buying it. I use Citrix a lot at work. Can anyone giveme a review of this?

The Citrix Receiver works surprisingly well, I've used it with the Citrix AGEE's.
The back end needs to be configured to support the Citrix Receiver, you cannot use the usual webpage like a PC as the Citrix Receiver application cannot associate itself with an ICA file.
There needs to be a whole new virtual server setup that supports Citrix Receiver.
There is some mucking about getting versions to be right and the Web INterface and Back End Citrix farm all need to play nicely with your CAG or AGEE.
If your organisation has it working for iPhone, then unless they have locked it down to the iPhone's signature only you should be able to get it working quite easily.
If it isn't working for iPhone then you are most likely not going to ave any success.
The only thing to remember once it's working is that it caches the application list, so you need to refresh the list if you add a new application.
Good luck, my experience of the Citrix software hasn't been a particularly pain free one.

Hello everyone,
I received a Samsung Vibrant S for christmas and am a real noob to the android scene. I come from the world of WinMo 5.0 so please bear with me.
I have been playing with this thing for a just a few days so far and am hesitant to root the phone as I don't know yet all the features I currently have in my possession, let alone the amount of money this 'super computer' costs. But I am enjoying the phone so far.
So, I have at the moment just a few questions and would really like your opinions and suggestions on what you use to do certain things.
My Vibrant has the Eclair 2.1-upd1, UVJI6. I'm currently running the system without a data plan, just a basic phone service. With my WinMo 5.0 and having internet at home, a wifi on the rails to/from work, internet at work, there is no need to spend an extra 30 a month for a data plan.
First, I need to sync my outlook calendar on my desktop to the phone. I have tried Kies but the thing doesn't recognize the phone half the time and the other half is used in trying to figure out why there is no connection.
[Q] What do you use to sync your calendar events with an XP / Windows7_64 MS outlook calendar? I am not necessarily interested in syncing email, I have enough of that already, no need to add it to my phone. I would like to sync my personal contacts though, seperate from those at work.
[Q] I have noticed there are very few places to download an APK file. Most are simply installed from the market. From the old WinMo 5.0 days, I had to watch what applications would run on what systems, so my practice has been to download the application and save it to a disk so when I needed to reset my phone/PDA, I could just pull the applications off the disk. You can't do that now with the market. So what do you use to back up your purchased/free applications so you can get them back if you need to?

First off I would say check out the bible in the development section . You will find most of your answers there . As for your question about app capability most android apps will run on any android phone with a few exceptions . To back up your apps you could use TitaniumBackup but you most be rooted . Read up before you do anything . If you get stuck our are uncertain just ask . The community is usually very helpful .

i'm in the IT department for a big-time company, and we (obviously) have specific security parameters on our network.
Recently, with all of the talk about android tablets because of CES and other factors (i personally own a Viewsonic G-Tablet running VEGAn 5.1b) the team and i have come to wonder if we would be able to put an android tablet onto the domain the same way we would a regular old Windows PC/Laptop or a Blackberry phone onto the exchange server.
We use Citrix clients/servers as well as pc/laptops, and so far, as i've been scouring the market, i've been able to find a Citrix app, and a Wyse terminal app, which could be used to open VPN sessions on the server, as well as another app which allows an android device to be connected completely with Microsoft Exchange Server. So, i figured, where else would i go but here, to the most well versed android development website on the interwebs, to ask if you guys might know of anything at all, or if something could be done.
Any ideas?

- Are you asking if an Android device could be joined to your Windows domain?
- Are you asking if you can "see" shares on your Windows machines from Android?
- Are you asking if you can RDP to a Windows machine from Android?
- Etc.?
Probably (I think) #1 above is "no", at least as far as I can see now (plus I don't know if it'd make sense).
The answer to the 2nd and 3rd are "yes".
For #2, either you can use something like ES File Explorer, or you can use CIFS Manager on an Android machine that has CIFS support.
For #3, Pocketcloud can do that (the one from Wyse), and there are a few more.

Thanks for the reply, and yes i was looking to concentrate more around number 1. If number 1 were to be solved, number 2 would end up working out perfectly, with no security risks (becuase the shared files are only available to domain devices or thin clients using the VPN/RDP services we have setup). I guess looking at it from another angle, we would probably be able to (theoretically) limit a user's access capabilities on the tablet so that a general user could still be able to access the file shares using VPN without creating a security risk...
as you can see i currently have a whole lot running around in my head, and i'm not even sure if i'm mkaing it sound like english... T_T
I use my Zpad for work, the business apps I use:
Touchdown (for exchange, would like spell checker though)
File Expert (access shares)
Xtralogic Remote Desktop (works VERY well, better than PocketCloud and worth the $25)

It sounds like you're looking for something like PAM authentication capability from the Gtab. I know that there are products that do that for *nix, but I'm not aware of anything specifically for Android. Then again I think that there are public domain implementations, so it might be possible. Sorry that I can't be more help ...

I thought I should give it a go here after some googling which didn't turn up the right results.
I am looking for an app that can put an android device in some sort of kiosk mode and start a connection to a remoteapp which is on a windows 2012 server. I know about rdp client from windows, but that doesn't cut it because I need to go through the app interface with all his settings that can be changed when connecting. This is also the case with several other rdp clients I have tried.
Kiosk mode isn't really a problem, there are several apps out there that can restrict to launching a single app in android.
BTW I would be happy to pay for it, just need the possibility to test it in our environment. I am hoping there is something standard out there that lets you accomplish this.
(android version will be 6.0 and above on which it should work)
