Why don't you consider using Helium Backup? Very easy to use compared to Titanium ( which is great too ).

Does the phone need to be rooted..?

I doubt it for that, never had a non rooted android but pulling app data should be allowed, if its stored in mtn/asec you may need to be rooted

no while pullin its without root , cause its read only mode.

but to push to new device u need write accsess means root.

Pretty sure you can push to data partition without root

Backup apps

Is there a way to back up apps without root? Titanium backup says root required. I want to root my phone but since mega upload was taken down the only files i can find to root would take me all the way back to stock as far as i can tell, and i don't want to lose all my apps + data

Tibu doesn't work without root. And if your phone isn't rooted, then how can you not be on stock? And flashing the whole root packages do not require you to wipe your phone's data, you only have to wipe if your coming from a non stock rom.

Just an alternative since I don't think it requires root.

[Q] Backing Up Data

I couldn't find any statement that answers my question. My friend is interested in rooting his phone to backup his apps with TB. His phone is currently stock (4.5.141). Is there a root method where the phone is not reset to factory? It would defeat the point of rooting if he looses all his data.
Thanks for taking the time to read my question.

If he backs it up through titanium he can use a root browser and copy the file to ext-sdcard, factory reset doesn't erase that. You could also put the backup on a computer via USB if he doesn't have an ext-sdcard. Be sure to put the file back in the proper directory after wiping.

It was my understanding TB would not be able to backup anything unless it had root access in the first place..

Oh sorry I misread your OP. Yes titanium needs root to perform backups. If you try the USB method you can pull files from the phone and sdcard and store them on your computer.
Edit- also just rooting shouldn't reset data, unless your unlocking the bootloader as well

Xperia S and game DATA

I have an unrooted Xperia S and I am trying to download a game.
Here's my problem:
When I connect my phone to my PC, I am attemping to find the "obb" folder into the "Android" one, to copy the game DATA in there but with no success! I can't find that folder and Im pretty sure that it's not hidden, it may be located elsewhere or I need to copy data files to another folder.
I have downloaded a lot of games such as NOVA 3 (which downloads its DATA via wi-fi) but the obb folder seems like it doesn't exist.
Could you help me find where the game DATA folders are located? Thanks in advance..
*Xperia S doesn't have card slot so there isn't SD card inserted. Everything is stored in its internal memory (32gb).
I can use TeamViewer if you want a closer look.
hey, I also have an unrooted Xperia S and i was also unable to find the "obb" folder . So i just created it in the Android folder and it worked for me .
try it :good:

Yes, look in the apps section.
If you're rooted you can use titanium backup to "backup and restore" your files including apps+data. So I suggest that you root your phone

He meant the game files, not the /data/data...
I know it's the game files, I've tried to backup the data on titanium backup after playing Asphalt 7, The Dark Knight Rises etc (before I flashed a new rom).. Then I flashed a new rom, new kernel, did a factory reset, wiped dalvik cache, and when I restored my saved backup in titanium backup it also restored my saved game. So backing up using TPB is effective for me.

Yes, but it's a good practice to keep a cwm backup always before flashing.
Cwm backup means..
What n all does it backups
Sorry for noon question
Sent from my Xperia S using xda app-developers app
sony back up - default restore and back up program of sony (included in the firmware)
titanium - back up system and data same like sony restore and back up apps, but with more options. (with free and paid app from google play), can be used to restore single file.
clockworkmod (cwm) backup - back up of system, boot and data ( these are done in recovery), can be used to restore system only or data only or boot only.
1. cwm (if you are flashing roms) - really need this back up in case of error or not booting
2. titanium if you are restoring single file or freezing apps or converting apps to system apps.

No question is Noob brother!
Cwm is short for ClockWorkMod Recovery by Koush.
After installing a custom kernel you get this recovery. When the phone boots (if you have ulbl) you get a vibe+blue led+white glowing illumination strip all at once... Hit volume up rocker once.
You'll enter cwm.
If you choose backup option from there... It backs up your system, boot, cache, data.
In case of any mistakes or something in future you can always enter cwm and choose restore to bring your phone back to the previous state.
You can go to advanced restore and choose either system/boot/cache/data or all.
Thank... if helpful...

Device Status: Modified

Hi guys, need a bit of help.
I have rooted my phone previously but did not like it so I flashed the stock rom with Odin. This left my device status as modified. Since it is modified I cannot get software updates.
Recently, I had to flash jellybean for my phone as it would not update ota or through kies. Now when pressing check for update in settings, it sais "Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available".
Is there anyway to change the device status back to normal without wiping data? If not, how can I backup all my data so it can be restored? Samsung kies crashes when trying to backup apps and I'm not sure if mobile go backs up app data.
I am using the international version of the Samsung Galaxy S3, if that helps.
Thanks in advance

Root again, and run triangle away, then flash stock again via Odin and wipe data from recovery.
This removes all evidence of root and you will be completely stock with a binary counter of 0.

root phone then backup via recovery .
Backup EFS folder
Purchase Titanium backup pro from the market and backup apps .
Also backup your contacts and any MP3 /Video can be copied to PC .
Download and save original firmware via Checkfus .
Update by flashing any stock rom or custom rom .

Dude, i dont know if sdk is a good/easy option. But try Nandroid Backup on play store.
But the problem is that all these apps from the play store that backup your device require root and I want my phone unrooted after restoring it. Those apps do require root to restore data right? If not then I am willing to use them.

i've used very simple method.
1) connect usb to pc - then select internal memory copy to sd card.
2) for some data will not show any items if connect via usb.But you still can move via file manager such as "solid explorer".Just select file and copy to sd card.It might take a little bit longer.
..i'm already done more than 20 times chg status modified to normal.Just ensure you use proper step as adviced by Xda senior..

Hi guys, I've left this topic off for a while but I'm back with new questions.
I have now found Holo Backup (Simple ADB Backup) to backup my phone without any rooting or complicated stuff. I wanna know that if I backup my device with its device status modified, will it still show modified when I restore it?
Also has anyone with an S3 successfully backed up and restored their phone using holo backup and if so what was the size of backup file. When I tried mine it came up with a file slightly over 1gb which doesn't seem right seeing as I have about 10gb internal data and 10gb of data on my micro sd.
Thanks in advance

Use Framaroot to root your phone (!!with SuperSU!!) after reflasing, use Titanium Backup to restore the apps and systemapp-data....
After you did it, go to SuperSU, go to settings and tap on Unroot.... Your device state will be NORMAL after that!
