[Q] Custom ROMs - AT&T vs. Google Edition - AT&T HTC One (M7)

I'm going to be replacing a broken HTC One X with an HTC One.
Since they are the same 'full price', does it make a difference whether to go with either in terms of ease of rootability/unlocking/custom roms?
I suppose if it doesn't matter, i'll go AT&T for the black case pref....

I'd go for the at&t version

I am using black ATT version and can always choose sense or google edition rom
I keep nandroid backup for both rom

I had the same choice, and I would personally recommend the AT&T version. I find that the AT&T stock ROMs give me incredible battery life, and Sense has come a long way since I last used it on the HTC Incredible
You can't go wrong with either though, this phone is a HUGE upgrade from the One X.

Just a heads up on any other problems...post them in the Rom's thread. You will most likely get more help.

Getting an HTC one

Decided to not get the S4 and selling my iphone 5 for an htc one in black.
If I buy it from ATT now will I be able to put custom roms and root it? I know the S4s new ota update won't let me install roms :/
Yes

[Q] Rom Question

Getting att htc one today. Question is can I use any htc one rom? Or can I just use att?
All but sprint
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4
Yup pretty much any except sprint and now Verizon I suppose because of the cdma... All the gsm variants are basically interchangeable.

Thank you both.

Just do a little reading on the ROM you're interested in, beforehand. Some can get a little wonky when it comes to AT&T icons, at least.

[Q] T-mobile to GPE and warranty

I purchased, a T-mobile HTC One about 4 months ago, and converted the phone to the Google Edition including bootloader.
Now I found that the top grill (where the speaker is) is showing a gap, and I have about 3 dead pixels (they stay green and red all the time when the screen is on) Does anybody know how picky they are for replacements, and if I should restore to stock, or can I just send it back and they won't care about software mods?
You will definitely have to return the device to stock. I suggest relocking the BL, return to stock. So no red letters appear at the bottom during boot. I don't think the dive too much more then that.

Thanks, I will try the RUU from HTC and see how that goes. Do you happen to know what is the CID for Tmobile?
This is a little off topic sorry but I didn't want to make a new thread just for this. Recently switched to One from nexus 4 and I also converted T-Mobile HTC one to the gpe. Can I flash Roms from the international section on the T-Mobile device? It seems like they have the same hw

Came from nexus 4 as well. I have a HTC on on T-Mobile and I am using the international roms. Most of the ROMS. express support for the US versions of the HTC One. (Viper, insert coin, elegancia)

Thank you! I just wanted to make sure they didn't have different data partitions. My last HTC phone was like that and you couldn't flash international on T-Mobile version

Chances of the X+ getting 4.3 Kitkat?

I see the One is getting upgraded, but the general talk is that the One X won't as it is outside of the 18 month window.
With the One X+ having only been out for 12 months, do you think we'll see the upgrade?
Sent from my HTC One X+ using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Can't speak for the international X+, but I can tell you for a fact, the AT&T X+ will not receive Android 4.4 KitKat with Sense 5.5. We will only be getting 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with Sense 5 in January. I don't see us getting 4.3 either. The international X+ will see 4.3, if it hasn't got it already, and 4.4. Just don't hold your breath on the AT&T model. Your outlook is much brighter if you have the international model.

Thanks for the reply. Will wait and see. Being in the UK, I do have the international variant!

According to what I've read, most of the changes are to BlinkFeed, especially the ability to switch it off. I have that on the + already (not 5.5).
Considering the phone is just 12 months old, I'll be very frustrated if there isn't a further update to the os.

Yeah, me too.
I don't expect unlimited updates. But the phone shouldn't be ignored after 1 year.
I hope they see Sense (no pun intended!) and bring the update to the plus.

The thing is, our device was kind of niche one, because the sales were not that great. And I don't think HTC is in a position where it would make sense (financially) to invest in creating an update for our phone.
Plus, there's the problem of loyalty to HTC One X customers. The HTC One X is almost the same device, so updating the One X+ would mean they have to update the One X as well. In my opinion, you can separate the HOX from the HOX+, and viceversa. If one gets an update, so does the other. If not, then none of them do.

Yeah, I get that. If I had known that it would be forgotten about after 12 months, I wouldn't have been so brand loyal.
Just have to wait and see...

Well I too consider myself to be brand loyal, but only because of the build quality of the phones. I've been f****d before by HTC, with the Desire Z. It too was left behind before its time.
It's frustrating. I know there are arguments that we 'shouldn't' expect major software upgrades once we've bought a phone, but I think with the money we spend on phones, you should expect some form of upkeep for a while.
Sorry to hear you've been messed about before! If it happens here, I reckon I'll jump to Samsung or Sony.

I'm getting rather ticked off at HTC and AT&T. I've been an avid fan/user since an old HTC AT&T 8525 Windows phone. Every HTC phone I've had is always the only one that never gets updates. Other HTC AT&T phones get their updates, but mine don't. I have the worst luck in picking phones.
