Rooting without using a PC. - Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, Pro

Hi ppl!
I'm new on unrooting the phone. The main reason i want to unroot the phone is to get rid of junk apps that are occupying too much space on my internal mem of my Neo. I heard using supersu would do the trick along with Titanium back up (back uping up apps). I'm too noobie to do it and afraid to brick my phone.Has anybody tried this?

The process is called Rooting nt unrootingg... Rooting fr me is a must thing fr any phone .. so that we can get access to system files and we can hav freedom to remove bloatware(unwanted appz) .. u can find many tutorials in the neo forumss.. just go thru them... it is a very simple .. u can unleash the power of ur ph by roooting..

In these past Days, I read and studied why rooting and customizing your phone is needed. But What Softwares(Easy to use) would you reccomand a noob so he won't Brick the phone?
I have an Xperia Neo MT15i/VERS And.:2.3.4 Gingerbread/Build num:4.0.2.A.0.62. I really want to root the phone to clean up bloatware and use titanium Backup. I never wanted to upgrade to ICs from Sony Because i Heard the phone Lags.

U r true.. ICS lags wen compared ovr GB cz in ICS roms the available ram will be less.. in GB roms we can get max upto 270mb free ram.. so the phone will be much smoother and can run hd games without lag..
There are two things.. Rooting and unlocking bootloader.. there r very simple procedures .. dont panic u ll nt brick ur phone.. If u want to get access to more custom roms u shuld unlock bootloader.. i recommend to unlock bootloader.. cz we can try different kernels and roms... Just simply go thru forums in xda fr rootng.. they made it much mucj easier nw than.before.. cheers

you first have to root then unlock your bootloader, follow the link above for steps on how to unlock.

Just go the official way to unlock bootloader.. If you are going confused.. you will lose warranty ofcourse.. Be on locked bootloader for sometime.. Root your device, install cwm recovery using x parts from play store,.. Flash stock based roms.. Read the stickies threads.. Its there everything is there.. Only thing you need to do is READ!!!

i tried with the last one.
i am in Greece.. if i flash it with the stock ICS 6.1.1.C.1.0 file which i found here and it's from T-mobile Croatia, i think that my sim will not work..
My XU is simlocked with Orange - Poland and works great with any region ROM (sometimes GPS needs fixing). Have you tried ADB restore root method from Flashtool? For some reason bin4ry never works for me, but Flashtool one (isn't it the same script?) always works.

Hello. This is my first post here so forgive me if i done or post it wrong.
In short i have updated phone from gb 6.0.B.1.564 to Ics 6.1.1.C.1.0 via pcc and it is from then acting very poorly in comparison to before, very laggy and slow in general. What id like to know now is what is best to do? I have heard there is some new latest firmware released for xu ics, is it possible for me to get that, and is it improved a bit performance? If nothing, can someone pls point me how to downgrade back to gb, or maybe suggest something else? Just so you know, my phone is not rooted and it has locked bootloader.

Hi zig , firstly I will not suggest u to downgrade ur phone secondly do one thing to make ur phone processing faster.... Go to settings>apps>all> click the app and on the top right u will see an option ''disable'' , disable the preinstalled apps which u don't use like ''Google +,email, gmail, talk,fb,office suite, top contacts, retail demo, recommender, maps ,Google chrome, exchange services'' restart ur phone and then use..... Let me know how is it working.
Yea there is one more new update of Xperia u and that new ICS 6.1.1.B.1.54 version is good....it's bug free ,I would like u to upgrade it.

Hey tyvm for a quick answer. I have done what you told me, except ofc the ones i use and exchange services, cos i dont know what it is, but im guessing its for incoming mails or messages maybe. It improved a bit, but it is still kinda laggy. The thing that is worrying me is a battery draining, it goes down rly fast. I know about the update you mentioned, but there seems to be even more new then that 6.1.1.b1.100. In any case how can i upgrade to those, be it new or older firmware? They are not listed in pcc, it sais its up to date with this last one i did. Thank you again for help.

To get a real lag reduction and battery drain issue, I suggest you to root atleast (without unlocking your boot loader which does not void your warranty).
For that you need flashtools from there
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1933985
However, B.1.100 is slightly better than the previous version
So to try that, flash it with flashtools, you can find the download link here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1974430
You do not require root to flash Sony stock ROMs.
Another better alternative is to flash custom ROMs for locked bootloader,
My personal suggest, go for SlimCM ROM, pretty stable and snappier.

So in essence i can flash newest stock B.1.100 without root, and not losing the waranty (subquestion only unlocking the bootloader voids waranty, but root no? I am asking this cos i do seem to remember but i might be wrong that root can also void it, and i wanna be sure . But if i decide to go for custom ROM which you suggested do i need root for that? With root i can remove loads of stuff which i cannot do now, so thats why the lag is much lesser?

Yes you can attain root access without unlocking your boot loader.
Use flashtool method or Bin4ry's method.
Again yes, you can flash SONY STOCK fw using flashtools (without root or unlocking) in flashmode (just keep in mind to "exclude TA")
Once you are rooted you can install apps such as greenify that really helps to last the battery longer.
Also you could remove the bloatware and other useless apps.
Or you even you can make choices to install Custom ROMs for locked bootloaders. Just check the development section.
This is my personal suggest: SlimCM ROM.
Though its CM9
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2143750
See the instructions for locked boot loaders.

To root fw C.1.0 or any later versions, you need to
-flash the kernel alone of B.1.0.
-follow root procedure by flashtool or Bin4ry method.
-Then flash back the corresponding kernel of the ROM.
Done

Ty for all the suggestions. I rly appreciate it. Think i will go for what u suggested first, slimCM. I checked it and it looks nice.. Althou some things are not so clear to me. In both instructions, for slimCM and in patch for locked bootloader it says wipe data or factory reset in recovery. What is recovery? And it also mentions to do the backup of my current ROM. How shall i do that. Wipe data and factory reset means all data gone from phone so i should backup at least photos, music and sms-es to my pc or some app.

That's where you can find recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2020897
CWM recovery is required to flash custom ROMs or MODs etc.
You can find the wipe data, cache options in the recovery menu. Just back up your contacts, messages and things.
Nothing from SD card will be lost.
Do carefully patch the ROM as per the instructions to make it into locked bootloader.
Copy that zip file in SD card and enter CWM recovery
-flash ROM
Done !

heyyy
U can root ur device with out touching bootloader dats pretty easier....
but remember after rooting u need to install cwm recovery bcz its used to flash custom roms and rem u can also take take backup of ur entire rom
if anything goes wrong during flashing custom u can easily restore ur device to normal..... by using back up....
flash b.1.10 rom bcz it can be easily rooted by using flashtool......
So finally the process is root first, second recovery and finally flashing rom of ur choice.....
There are so many ROMS in dev section for locked bootloader......
njoyyyyyyyyy............
I ll attach CWM recovery files download and extract.... In the extract folder double click install(.bat file) make sure device connected with debugging mode on..... accept all superuser request on device........aft rooting u ll get super user app in apptry

Then cwm recovery install, then applying the patch for locked bootloader for slimCM ROM, then i go back in cwm, make backup of current ROM and then wipe data, and then flash the rom.. Here's the Rooting Process for you.
This Rooting guide applies to all FW versions above B.1.10. (i.e. B.1.54/C.1.0/B.1.75/B.1.189/B.1.100)
1) Open Flashtool.
2) Click the Flash icon.
3) Select Flash Mode. (Make sure USB Debugging is ON in your Mobile Settings before connecting to PC)
4) Select & Flash the B.1.10 kernel. Then Reboot.
5) Select the Un-Lock icon and choose your preferred SU app & proceed.
6) Follow the on-screen instructions.
7) Now you have rooted your device.
8) Flash the kernel of your respective FW from the FTF file through Flash Mode and let the device reboot.

Xperia U about to be thrown at garbage

I'm sick of this junk phone!!!
It's locked and I have no idea who told those guys from the development section that it can be rooted even if bootloader is locked, couse i'll be damn if it worked for me.
I tryed every option shown and none worked.
Hell it dosen't even show me the restore option, every time I have to manualy go to settings and hit restore.
And in <<only one>> option I get the RootMe restore option, the one for those with open bootloader...
And I also get a lot of error in the command promt, and that shouldn't happen.

And in option I get the RootMe restore option, the one for those with open bootloader...
And I also get a lot of error in the command promt, and that shouldn't happen.
Dose anyone have any suggestions or anything? Couse I can't talk with those guys due to this new user thing... X(

The "soft" mod is no longer an option for many other devices not only smartphones. The method you guys have here is usless for phones that have the bootloader phisicaly locked by sony!!!
I'm looking for a way to bypass the sony lock, the hard way...
Where are those old fonefreekz when you need them...
And is very unpolite to call someone a noob only "cus u" think he knows no s***. I was cracking phones long before Android was publicaly released...

I found this after 2 minutes searching xda...
The guide is for Xperia U 6.1.1.B.1.10 , i don't know what firmware do you have.. so if its any newer than 6.1.1.B.1.10 than you should just flash ONLY the kernel for 6.1.1.B.1.10 , then follow this guide till the end, then after root is achieved.. flash back the original kernel for your version of firmware.
I always root this way, and i never had any problems , just before rooting set the display of your phone to NOT turn off for at least 5 minutes, not 30 seconds as it is at default.
I have some kernels if you need them
Xperia U 6.1.1.B.1.10
Xperia U 6.1.1.B.1.54
Xperia U 6.1.1.B.1.100
I have the 6.1.1.B.1.54 and my god haven't I tryed this option too. It was the very first method I found on xda back in 2012 and it failed. I will try it again however but I expect the same result as the first time...

No. I'm useing Vista and 8, and they both should be working... I'm not getting any errors due to driver conflicts or anything so it's not an OS problem...
And no, my AV dose not see flashtool as a worm...

Your phone isn't different from everybody else, but obviously you are.
Be humble and review all the steps, options and possibilities.

all u need is a little patience. first flash stock 6.1.1.b.1.10.ftf that u can download from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2391151
in the android 4.0 section flash it using flashtool and repeat the same methods u tried earlier and report it.
It doesn't matter dump ur phone but being this way u'll never get to learn stuff............
Remember to calm down first, so your head will be clear. I was also exasperated when I was unable to root my phone with .54 kernel. I had a lot of difficulties because I am on ubuntu 13.10 and I had to first properly install the packages required by flashtool. After a gruelling 3 days of failures I decided to step back a while so I could calm down and relax. Finally I got my phone rooted after I redownloaded a .10 kernel.

When u hurry hurry hurry u will overlook a ton of things and miss a lot of essential steps even though you say "i have tried all methods and did them correct" a human is a human and obviously can make mistakes without even knowing them. and then u fail and get hatred but thats the part where u need to cool down. In this thread i have seen a lot of Correct answers for you i even used them and managed to root my Xperia U st25i with 1.54 firmware aswell the kernel is essential in it to so take some time and relax read the threads properly and even if something fails to download Search on XDA or google and u will have so much correct answers that u will be amazed of
if u are on .54 fw then u need to download .10 kernel and flash it via flashtool and then use bin4ry's method (restoring the RootMe file) and then reflash the .54 kernel
u will get the kernel in the op of the thread linked below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2028139
and if u seriously want to get into rooting and tweaking your phone's system then the first thing you need is a calm mind or else you will end up bricking your device

its up to you but i would suggest you try a look if your phone bootloader can be unlock...if it can be unlock then i highly recommend you unlock it and flash custom kernel....custom kernel is very good since all custom kernel are pre-rooted and all have recovery by default (CWM/TWRP or Both).... that means you don't have to root your phone and install recovery again and again...
Good news is my phone can unlock the bootloader but the reason i want to root because i want clear my internal memory, 53 mb left and i want to transfer all my app to sd card and to remove bloatware app.. As far i know unlocking the bootloader will not help solve my problem, am i right?

We're not allowed to ask for the best rom/kernel so try some and find the best one for your usage
Btw remember unlocking your bootloader will void your warranty! You don't have to unlock it in order to root it

ICS will NEVER stop lag. Its ics feature (XD) if u want a unlaggy phone get JB or up with a 3.4xxx kernel. Mike's Legacy Xperia id a good choice , and its very suitable for a daily use. recently he gaved us a final CM10.1 version which i woul advice to you to try. :good::good: damn its so smoooth

Hmm,but unlocking bootloader wont help solve my problem like insufficient internal memory space and removing bloatware, am i right? When i try to check my phone with Root Checker, its say my device doesn't have proper root access. What that suppose to mean? Did i accidently delete a file or something else.. Or upgrading to ICS can help solve this 'root access' problem? Sorry i'm very noob at this..

Just root it (again). Use eroot or any other method in my guide and root it. Afterwards root checker will prompt a proper root access and it should work
