Hey pals im thinking to get a new android phone & im thinking to buy Lg optimus 1 . So howz this phone n i see only 2-3 custom roms available for it . BTW howz its speed of handling games n apps on it thnks
Best value for money at the 220euros price range, for sure!
So how much you wanna spend?
What are your needs?
Internet surfing, gaming, music, battery life demands?, movie watching, gps ?
For my needs is more than ok so far, it has everything i need... so..
1) what's your budget
2) your needs
The P500 was my first Android phone. Before I had the Samsung SGH-D500 so a HUGE jump of ages xD Of course I'm not old school I heavily used a iPodTouch 2G before. (Same prices more or less) For ME its enough and I can't wait for a good 2.3 ROM on that device. But if I NOW would have the choice I maybe would wait. Since LG is releasing the first DualCore Smartphone soon. But I took the Optimus One. And I think I bought the right device from the right company at the right time.
It looks good is not to big it can receive calls, SMS and E-Mails and stuff. Playing isnt really possible yet because of a touchscreen bug. Which hopefully get fixed with Android 2.3. And if I take a look on the hardware you get more then you pay. So its really a good choice if you dont want to spend that much money on a mobile phone. Also a good choice would be the Samsung wave which costs around 100€ more but does have extremly good hardware. (Like a Galaxy S i9000) However that one uses Bada NOT Android which was the reason why I didnt took it. But there are only a few good arguments why you should take a Android phone over Bada. So its up to you.

bro what toch screen bug r u talking about ??
sometimes the mobile takes a bit of time to register your touch. say, typing a msg. sometimes you type 2-3 letters & than only the letters will appear. but this is random & its not that it becomes totally unusable. just a bit annoying at times as it limits your typing speed & so will affect games that needs you to make a lot of touch control (no D-pad or scroll here).

It was my first android, and i think it is awesome. Some of my friends are using X8, Wildfire, X10. This phone's hardware worths more than its price, and believe me, it is an awesome choice to step into the world of android!
The only time I've ever noticed any significant lag was during the beginning of each level of Angry Birds. Other than that it has been great.
The phone is nice but check this thread for a common problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894210
nice work
nice work man...Custom ROMS to meet every person's taste.. GOOD WORK !!
This phone is the ideal way to get to know Android, imho.
It has decent performance (mainly because it is not memory restricted as many other phones are, X8 and original Samsung Galaxy come to mind), it comes with Froyo and LG has already promised a Gingerbread upgrade (though that will probably take a while to arrive), and it has no annoying quirks with regards to ordinary phone functions.
I come from the original Samsung Galaxy, which cost twice the amount and is still stuck with android 1.6 and incredibly low RAM memory (okay so the screen was awesome and it had 8GB internal storage). There was also a problem with the proximity detector which meant that I often accidentally hung up on people while talking on the phone.
None of that bull**** on this one, it works really well. I suggest you pair it with noejn's excellent Void. rom (beautiful black theme and very configurable!)
The only other budget android phone which might even be better is the ZTE Blade (aka San Francisco) because it's cheaper and because more ROMs are available.
Other decent budget androids:
- x8: stuck on 2.1, low RAM and no roms available afaik
- samsung apollo/europa: low resolution, stuck on 2.1 afaik
- HTC Wildfire: nice phone, but low resolution and slower processor
- that's about it, at least what's available around here...
- samsung apollo/europa: low resolution, stuck on 2.1 afaik
It already has Froyo.

Certain versions have about 150 MB of free memory available. IMHO that's "memory restricted" for a phone sold today.
Depends on whether we're talking about ram or flash memory I'm talking about ram and no, a phone with 512MB still qualifies as well-endowed!

would you still recommend void over one of the two gingerbread ports; either cm7 or the other? thanks!
I'd still recommend void over the Gingerbread ROMs at this point. It may not be the latest and greatest, but everything works.
GB roms are in alpha phase, one big benefit with VIOD is that the google Ads are blocked, if google ads are blocked in GB roms, then i am happy to use it...
I believe you can't get Adobe Flash on the phone because of the mediocre CPU used.
Hello, i currently have a Iphone 4s and it is perfect for what i want to use it for. but im getting a bit sick of having to wait for jailbreaks and tweaks. The galaxy s 2 has loads of tweaks and stuff by the looks of it.
i basically want to be able to copy onto the memory card blu-ray rips without having to convert them to any other format.
i also like games and wondered if the galaxy s 2 is as good at playing games as the iphone 4s?
i also really like some of the custom rom's that you guys have made! they look fantastic.
i have some experience with custom roms as i always had XDA phones and HTC too and enjoyed trying out all the new rom's.
whats the battery life like on the galaxy s 2 and which rom would be best for battery and playing bluray rips?
i also want to make themes and easily install them, is this possible?
Thanks guys and keep up the good work!!
Kev.
You're on an android sgsII forum. So the answer is YES.
Dump the iphone and set yourself free!
NO.
I beg to differ
After a colleague saw and played with my SGS2 he bought one and sold his Iphone 4 and is happy. He's a gamer and I haven't heard any complaints from him.
I get more than a day on a charge on the stock battery, as long as a phone gets a complete day I'm happy as it goes on the dock when I go to bed anyways.
Iunno, if its just video watching, then sure, but we have a 2gb video limit plus the iphone has a larger video battery life. If it's gaming then stick with your iphone. Everything else in functionality is more or less the same.
Now imagine you jailbreak to get free apps. The sgs 2 rooting it or otherwise does not mean you get free apps. You have to look elsewhere.
Personally dont waste your money on an sgs 2 when you have an iphone 4s. Im not saying either is better or worse but better you wait for a real improvement like sgs 3 or iphone 5.

As Kaili mentioned above, it is not worth to change and you can tetheted jailbreak atm so why dont you try?

I say yes, because i had the iphone 4 and it was a awesome but when i saw my brother with the sgs2, and i tested it out on games and videos the graphics were so amazing i was speechless of the quality and the big 4.3inch screen, the speed is sweet too, but tweaking makes it more fun and it's a lot easier to change roms or anything else if you don't like the same stuff that you use every day please go for the sgs2.
Iphone is really very boring believe me after you use the SGS2.
I've had both, best has gotta be the SGS2 hands down.

Well the battery life on the stock ROM is not so bad, I always get through the day as a heavy user.
For me it's acceptable if it can work until i get to bed. On custom ROMs however you probably get a lot better battery life.
I don't know much about making themes, but I know you can install them in matter of seconds.
Galaxy S2 is really a great phone, you won't be sorry.
PS. the gaming on iPhone4S may still be better than on GalaxyS2 even if the SGS2 is a more powerful device.
The reason for that is the devs are making games that are compatible for much more devices with different hardware.
But the future of gaming looks bright , just check out Shadowgun and RiptideGP , they look aWESome! Good luck
hi guys,
Thanks for the reply.
im not that interested in free apps its more tweaks to get the phone how i want it to look and feel.

if i was going to change id be getting a 32 or 64GB memory card.
thanks for replying.

It depends on what you are expecting from a phone.
If you want a magnum that a bullet in it, yes SGS2 is the right choice.
If you want a giggling phone that you can show off with it, stay with iphone.

Totally this.
Galaxy S II forever!!! or untill Galaxy S III !
No seriously, if you've got the cash go for it... but that's not to say the iPhone's bad, it just doesn't give you the freedom of an S2, or any android device for that matter. But if you decide to hold on to your benjamins and wait for the next king of the hill, the I'd say that's a smart choice too. One bad thing about the SGS2 concerning gaming is that some of the best games are Tegra 2 only, and while the Exynos chip inside the phone is definitely powerful enough, it's still not gonna run those games. You can go through chainfire3d to play those games but it's just something you'd need to know, oh and some of the games that use to be Tegra 2 only have been officially given Exynos support, like Shadowgun... So maybe its better to wait untill the games get ported, then when the SGS3 comes out with it's mindblowing specs, it'll already support the best games... If I were you, stick with the iPhone 4S untill a worthy successor to the SGS2 comes out...
See if you can find some place to try it. Then try it, but make sure you try all the things you use the most. Android is a VERY different experience from iOS. I came from an iPhone myself and the first thing I noticed was that the UI isn't quite as smooth as it is on the iPhone. However it is not bad and all the customizations you can do, more than make up for it. Especially the keyboards. But as I said, it's a different experience and it's going to take some time to get used to it.
Another thing, you might want to think about is the release cycle. The SGS 2 is growing a beard, having been out for more than 6 months now in some parts of the world. I got mine in may. I still love it. It's by far the most awesome gadget I have owned, but at this time I would wait for the SGS 3. If you live in the US, you might have to wait a long time though.

Well since you own an iPhone4Steve and you are considering getting a GalaxyS2 with a 32GB microSD i'd go and say you can spare the cash.
So get them both. Both are really amazing devices , whatever someone else might say. You can never have enough gadgets.
Also you might consider getting a GalaxyNote if you are after movies. The screen is just amazing!

I guess it depends on what you want in a phone. I believe the iPhone is behind in today's technology.
Technology, especially in phones, moves fast. Apple doesn't keep up with the times very well. They release a new phone once a year, with old specs and outdated software / aesthetics.
I love the SGSII. The UK version, because it has a physical button and its white version is beautiful.
It has higher specs and a nicer screen (bigger and brighter) than the iPhone.
But there are better phones to consider upgrading to from it. For example, the HTC Rezound is a beast. Offering true HD display (higher Res and ppi than the iPhone) with a super fast processor and all the up to date things technology today has to offer.
Another reason to switch to Android, not just the SGS, but Android in general; is the complete openness and customizability (word?) It has.
Even if you root an iPhone, you're still limited to what you can do.
Each OS has its pros and cons, but Android has many more pros.
-my two cents-

Well since no one has answered his question.
What I mean by 2gb is that because of the file system (dun ask me, i'm not sure on the specifics), android will only play files under 2gb. So any file over 2gb will not play, regardless of your sd card.
I've got both but the S2 is my main phone. The iPhone is just boring as even though it has every app ill ever need. Can't stand the small screen and old style look.

The answer is definitely YES, man!
While we wait for the Xperia U to have its own forum, we can do like the P guys and burglarize the Xperia S thread for a while.
The phone has picked some serious steam in Spain, because one carrier has launched a very aggressive campaign of phone subsidies which actually makes this phone free if you pay a 24 month contract which amounts to 10 dollars per month. With that subsidy, the subsidized phone costs actually less in the long run than the sim-unlocked one. Given that it totally destroys the likes of Oprimus L3, Galaxy Ace and other low end phones, it's flying from the shelves. In my case, I'm trading my Sensation with one of those phones. It's a pity, as I won't be able to run custom firmware or anything, but I think the trade off is acceptable.
I've read in a Chinese forum that the way to get in Flash mode is by keeping pressed VolDown while connecting the device to the computer. The latest Flashtool seems to recognize it. Once I get the phone I'll try to make an FTF file with whatever comes out of SEUS.
Is there anyone else with the phone who wishes to speak their wisdom?

My opinion
Had a play with both the P and U the other day and can safely say I made right choice with the S. Yes fastboot or flash mode is either hold vol up or down. The u looks ok and is a nice size ( looks like a mobile disco ) but the lag is horrid, why Sony did you use nova. And the P is so close to the S (size, looks) but yet so far away from the standard and specs (like getting the car you want but getting the cheapest package without aircon or electric windows). All I can say is good luck and hope you don't miss your Xperia play to much @logseman

We should not moan about the specs of the U, it's a low end device meant for people who want just a messaging phone with access to applications.
Not everyone has the need for the high end speced out phones you know.
Gingerbread is the only real drawback of the phone. It's tired and needs to be retired.

While the MWC videos are not as dramatic as you're portraying, lag is not a huge issue for me anymore, as I won't be playing many games on this fellow.
Thanks for the good wishes. I hope I'll be able to contribute a little bit here as I did in the Play forum
The phone does have 4 GB of accessible storage. It's the way Sony has to tell you "Buy the P". I'm not too bothered as we have a roomy system partition unlike in the Xperia Play.

The U will be getting ICS. The videos I've seen were convincing for me, and people have not complained about lag where I'm reading reports. It's true that GB is a let down, and I hope ICS will unleash the phone's real power.
You see, I just am not comfortable with the Sensation, it's nice but it heats way too much and the battery life is crud. This little feller should hold the line a wee bit longer.

Actually the xperia U just goes to show that sony has lost any business sense. Why would someone who wants a messaging phone with access to applications buy a dual core phone anyways? A single core phone with a bigger screen would actually be a better phone for that purpose.
Imagine people buying this phone without looking up it's specs, it's gonna happen and it's only gonna hurt the sony brand. And quite frankly cant blame people for that, I really wouldnt ever expect such a ridiculous limitation in a phone like this.
@ALL: It's actually 8GB, with at least (sic!) 4GB available to the user.

Poor marketing choice indeed. I am personally a Sony fan now but can't help noticing that the Japanese don't really have a good business sense. 16GB is also a limitation but only some people will be irked by that and the rest of the public will be fine with it. 8GB is unacceptable but 4GB is simply intolerable. Everyone who has a decent music collection will run out of space too quick. I am personally in favour of making the phone thicker and giving a bit more additional internal storage space, removable battery and a microSD card slot
Even my x8 got memory slot...

I don't see why not. Mali 400 MP GPU on the XU is plenty powerful. Almost as powerful as the Adreno 220 on our XS Plus it has to deal with a lower screen resolution (FWVGA)

I've had a chance to play with a demo unit yesterday. Runs nice, no UI lag, really fast and 6GB of storage. For the price it's one hell of a phone.
well im a proud owner of one
good camera, decent quality...perfect for a quick snap....
great video recording...very nice 720p videos...
no lags what so ever....ui is fine...
VERY GOOD 3d performance..... both psx emulators and n64 emulators work at a steady 50-60fps on both with graphics intensive roms...(spiderman, mario 64,revolt)
gta 3 runs flawlessly with zero lags...
quadrant scores it above the galaxy nexus.
good sound quality, decently loud speakers.
battery lasts 1.5 days with some 3d gaming and browsing and music.
u can get an xperia s battery for it (same battery model)...even 1900mah batteries are available one ebay.com (model: ba600)
total 8gb internal storage. 4gb user-accessable, 2gb for android, 2gb for apps.
usb otg works great...tried my joystick on it
looks sexy!
i thinks its perfect in every way...for its price range atleast.
only thing is storage. but i plan to keep my music and movies in a pendrive, and carry it with me...and plug it in when i need to...sounds convenient actualy
other than that it blows its competitors out of the water!
trust me worth buying...
the only thing it needs is root....anyone willing to help me root it?

It's a great phone, only paid £130 sim-free for mine in the UK; but the memory is small (512Mb). I just upgraded to ICS and rooted, and despite spending a couple of days fiddling around to reduce ram-hungry apps and processes, the dialer will occasionally crash when I try and use it, due to lack of available RAM. I am going to have to strip down even more apps and widgets to make it reliable. On Gingerbread I had the same number of apps and widgets and there were less problems. So if you are going to hang on to your next phone for a while, I would suggest waiting for a phone with 1Gb+ of memory.

there are specific set of people which would be even more than happy with Xperia U. these are the normal, general, non-power users upgrading from a dumbphone, or even smartphone owners before 2011.
from their old unit, they can now experience android and the apps it offers. with even better than usable single cores out there, they even get dual core CPU power, to browse the net, take and view pictures, internet messaging via whatsapp/imo, skype video calls, socialize in facebook/twitter, watch youtube, email, create short notes on notes applications, and many other useful tasks... all rendered in a bravia screen with high density of pixels which is very sharp and beautiful. the transparent color changing bar is another attractive feature which sets it apart from other phones which generally, all look alike.
the only thing not possible here would be the things that require storage, like local movie watching and to some extent music collection playing.
any other else, its as good as whatever phones out there.
with the expertise of the devs here in xda, who knows what more it can do.
thanks darth5zaft, I've tried that before but then gave it another shot after reading your post - but I still get lags and freezes when I have an app open and a call, or an sms comes through, everything slows down. So I've gone back now to using Auto Memory Manager off the Play Store, which might be doing the same sort of thing but I haven't had any slow-downs or lags over the last 24 hours, everything is zippy and I can't see the battery draining any faster
I agree, this phone does most of what a more expensive phone would do - I originally bought it just to replace the Nexus S I had which crapped out, with the plan being to upgrade at the end of that two year contract next March, but I will probably keep it a bit longer now that its set up nicely, there's little else I'm missing really.
Go for xperia u
U will luv it
Nice looks
Dual core
Plays hd games smoothly
Decent battery ( after. 54 fw )
And superb pricing
And regarding lagging
Almost all phones on stock fw lags

So if u want to buy a decent budget android smartphone wid power bt limited space go for xperia u

thanks cool for being there helping me by answering my questions. thank you...
But... i swap my grand quattro to a galaxy s3 today. i just added additional 72 dollars....
my main purpose why i bought a samsung phone is for gaming. this guy who sold me a grand quattro offered me this device. and i looked at the specs i first notice the " quad core" cpu so i concluded that this device can play almost all games plus the screen is huge too. but it really lags when i play some high end 3d games like the amazing spiderman, need for speed most wanted (only in some parts of the game where it became crowded with cars) etc.
So its a good bye to this phone...

So worth it men. it doesn't lag or slow down anymore when i play the amazing spiderman. im happy. ^_^
i think it heated that much because of the micro sd card. because my s3 also became very warm too and it also came from the micro sd card where my game file is stored.
i think its better to find a good fastest micro sd card. im using a cheap kingston micro sd card for the mean time and im planning to change it with sanddisk ultra let see if still over heat that much.

Lol its not for micro sd card. Its because of the cpu. While playing hd games it is obvious that these phone may get warm cause these games eat a lots of resource. And its totally normal. U may read the manual first than assuming ur answers.
