Right now I am in big trouble. I was trying to automate my phone so that it would turn off my PIN when I am at home and connected to home wifi network using Tasker and Secure Settings, and vise-versa (when I am not home, enable it). But it was not working. In other words, it would detect that I am at home and it would activate the Profile, but it won't be able to disable the PIN. It continued to ask for the PIN.
So in order to make sure that it is taking some action at all after detecting when I am not at home (to test it at work, I changed the "when I am not at home" profile), out of my infinite wisdom, I changed it to actually enable password instead of PIN to see if it asks for the password instead of PIN. That way I would know if the app is able to make any security changes at all.
Sure enough it looked like it has made the password enabled instead of the PIN now. However the keyboard that I get has only the numeric characters, no alphabet. How on earth am I supposed to enter the alpha-numeric password????
I don't know which app messed it up. Is it the Tasker? Is it the Secure Settings plugin? Or is it the SwiftKey keyboard app that is stupid enough to not change from numeric to alpha-numeric.
I have never setup a Password before, only the PIN. I don't even know how the keyboard looks like when you setup the password instead of PIN. I am sure it is supposed to show the alpha-numeric keyboard. But it is NOT.
Please help.
Thanks.
The issue is resolved. Just for someone else running into this issue, this is what happened. I accidentally ended up in pressing the Emergency Call button and it popped up the dialer. Of course I exit out of it, but now the keyboard I got was the correct keyboard - alpha-numeric, and I was able to enter the password.

Guys
I have searched the forum but cant find anything like this. When ever i set the screen lock it doesnt work, it ONLY works when i put a PIN on the device. I dont really want a pin on the device, just the screen to lock when it in my pocket.... any advice??
Oh this was working, but just suddenly stopped, I have tried factory resets but still nothing.....
Do you mean your lock slider stopped appearing? That's what just happened to mine. PITA when it's in its pouch because it keeps launching. Am trying to find a fix.
yes thats it. It just doesnt show any lock screen, but if i put a pin on the device it works fine, well except for showing a pin entry request which i dont want
OK, hello everybody.
I bump this one, because it's my issue too.
The fact is: at beginning the phone was ok. After screen went off, and when I turned it on, it used to show only the slide button, that used to unlock the phone, and that was all.
That was OK.
AFTER I SET UP AN EXCHANGE ACCOUNT (I make it twice: second time after a ROM Upgrade) the phone has FORCED ME to store a pin, and now the "request pin/password to unlock phone" function CANNOT BE TURNED OFF.
So, when screen goes down I MUST:
1) Click the on/off button
2) slide the on screen button
3) type in the unlock PIN and press "unlock"
Any way, any idea to disable ONLY THE 3 ??
Thank you
EDIT: HTC support understands NOTHING I'll keep this thread updated if any solution will be found...
EDIT 2: THE SOLUTION
Ok, after a long search: here's the solution (it's not spam: it's the solution to a problem)
http : // www . etenblog.com/2008/01/21/disable-exchange-security-policy-for-windows-mobile-devices/
and this is the original author:
http : // dedjo . blogspot.com/2007/12/how-to-disable-exchange-security-policy.html
(remove extra spaces)
DISABLE the exchange security policies (set key to 1 DWORD)
That was the thing that cause the FORCED REQUEST for pin/password.
EDIT3: BUT... everytime you sync with exchange, it FORCE YOU THAT POLICY again. So you have to ask your exchange admin to solve it.
Hi,
Not sure if this has been asked before, but If a pin number or password is set up for the lock screen, this can be bypassed by pressing the home button 5 or 6 times and will then open up the phone without the need to enter the password or pin. A work colleague found this out by accident and was able to access the phone uninhibited. Is this a feature in case of forgotten passwords / pins or is it a bug. Or can it be disabled? as it doesn't seem all that secure
Mine doesnt do that, tried it several times
must be a bug on your phone
Yeah I though that but another work colleague has the same phone and his does it as well. You have to press it quite quickly it seems to go into the voice control when it comes on and then goes on to normal phone use. I have found other references to it googling, but seems to be relating to a fix if you have actually forgotten the password.
We've been having a fiddle , and now having powered off the phones cold and restarting after setting the pin numbers it has stopped doing it. Up untill now after setting the pin code we hadn't actually powered off completely just into standby. SO you presumably must have to reboot the phone after setting the pin number.
Anyway both phones are working and cant replicate the issue, so hopefully sorted.
Thanks
Hi,
I use the Android multi-user function with the account of my wife an me. When I switch between the accounts either from the lockscreen or the settings, the home- and the multitaskbutton vanish. Only the back-button is still there and somehow working. The only way to get those buttons back is rebooting the device.
Is there anyone who can confirm this or is my device the only one which behaves this way?
Is there anyone who has also setup a multiuser device?
I would be grateful for an answer.
Bye
I had this once after i tapped to fast in preferences, but cant reproduce.
Have also two accounts without passwords.
Hi,
it must have been an authentification problem. There pops up an dialog, where the device asks for authentication of the google account. Something must have gone wrong with that. After some tries this dialog popped up again while using the second user. I verified the account with the accountdata of the "owner of the device". Since then the buttons did not disappear anymore.
I have exactly the same issue with my Z4. Looking for a fix now
so with the update to MM I'm finally able to use the fingerprint unlock with a case, but either I missed something or it's still somewhat annoying to use. after booting up I need to enter a password, which I'm okay with, however after using my device for a bit and letting it go to lock there are times where I need to re-enter my password instead of the fingerprint and this is without rebooting. is this normal?
EDIT: so I came across a few places that mention the use of Nova Launcher or 3rd party lockscreen apps... I don't have any of the latter, but I do have Nova Launcher except I'm not using that to lock my screen. am I missing something here?
It will do that I believe as a default. You can set up a smart place, like home, on your person, whatever, and it won't lock with a password. I use it on mine for the house, and certain devices it connects to.

Click to collapse
I believe there may be an issue now... I just unlocked my device using the fingerprint and I have my device set to lock after 10 minutes. Less than 10 minutes after my screen goes off I wake up my device with a double tap and it's locked, prompting for a password!
Hello,
I'm pretty good at computers but when it comes to phones I'm a dummy. I set a password in my Galaxy S5 running samsung-stang5litre edition 5.0 I just bought this phone and it had this ROM installed. I looked up instructions online for this phone to remove it (settings are not working or showing for this ROM) for this phone model and there are no instructions for this ROM. How do I remove the password or do I have to reset this phone ? If I reset the phone will it still ask for the password ? The person who sold me this phone also changed how this ROM looks and deleted almost every program out of it before I bought it. Please help me.
Found help
Since no one answered back I contacted someone to help me. I'd have never figured this out by myself. I'm so glad for his help. This is what worked.
What you have to do to remove that pin, go to Settings>Lock Screen> Screen Lock> Pattern> Setup any pattern, then setup Pin Code with it after you setup the Pattern. (You already have a Pin set in, just use it). It will ask you to type it in twice.
Now Power Off and Power On the phone it will ask for the pattern, do 5 to 6 wrong patterns, it might time you out for 30 seconds after that, on the bottom right of the phone it will say "use your Pin Code", hit that button, type in the Pin which you already setup while you were setting up your pattern, then use that Pin Code to unlock the phone. Now Power Off and Power On the phone, you shouldn't have any pin or pattern code to unlock anymore.
This worked for me.
