Have Amazon UK just got it wrong? - Samsung Galaxy Mega

They describe the phone as "Samsung I9025 Galaxy Mega" http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-I9025-Galaxy-Mega-Smartphone/dp/B00CXO7HQQ I can't find mention of an i9025 on any site elsewhere.
A couple of times in the blurb they mention GT-I9205ZKABTU and Samsung Galaxy Mega I9205 8GB Black Handset GTI9205ZKABTU which makes me think they have but there's no mention anywhere that I can see of LTE or any real specs. I don't want to order the wrong thing.
I had to laugh at this though " ‘Samsung WatchON’ (transforms the handset into an IR remote controller for a richer TV experience)" I'm thinking if it can make UK tv anything better than garbage it's worth the price for that alone

I think it's just an error which not unusual for Amazon listings. It should be i9205 for LTE version and i9200 for 3g only.
The WatchOn app is just a visual guide on what channels you are getting in your area and a button to switch to that channel.

Cheers for that

Errrrr no, it has a video guide as you described but it is also a remote (tap the icon top right) which you can setup to control TV's , VCR's, DVD players, set top boxes etc. Mine is setup to control both my Toshiba TV and my Sky plus box. There are LOADS of pre loaded device controls, just set them up from the menu's. You can also setup "rooms" so moving to a different room with different devices can be setup too. Bloody clever AND if you want some fun (I used to do this years back with an infra red equipped watch) go into your local pub, setup the app so you have control of the TV. Now wait till everyone is watching the football, just before it looks like one side is going to score a goal, turn the TV off!....he he. Just don't let on it was you.
Really enjoying the Mega, Pete
p.s. http://www.buymobilephones.net/mobile-phones/samsung/samsung-galaxy-mega have the Mega on T-Mobile's "Full Monty, 500mins, Unlimited texts, Unlimited Data" for £27/month 2 year contract with a FREE phone! That's what I got.

I know it's also a universal remote, I just commented on it being a guide as well as Troute's comment already mentioned that the handset has an IR remote function.
Unfortunately, we need to press and hold the power button to turn on our 50 inch Panasonic ST30 which the watchOn app can't do so it's not very useful to us. It controls the TV okay when it's already on but if we need to use the Tv's remote to turn it on then we might as well use it rather than open an app and do more tapping.

[Q] Sumas Tablet ever heard of them?

Hi all, long time lurker first time supernoob poster.
Picked up a few of these tablets for xmas presents at frys black friday sale
They told they were rushed and have only had them for a week and they havent gotten anymore info about them yet. Here is the link to the manfacturers website;

Now, my question is does it look like any of the china pads? or anyone ever seen one? There pretty cheap IMO and the specs dont look bad for being cheap. I called the manufacturer to find out if there resistive or capacitive, they said they didnt know....
dont seem that bad, but frys said If i open them up they take 20% off for a return, so I was hopin to find out some more info before i did that. The only thing the guy could tell me was it was "multitouch"

specs from the website
Judging by the specs and description, it seems like it has a capacitive touchscreen. Plus having multi-touch, it would most likely be capacitive.

Thank you so much, I thought that as well. I actually just called there support again, and it was the same guy, he told me it plays angry birds very well. I guess Ill report back once they open them up after xmas. I might pick up another one to try out, but frys is pretty far. They do have them listed on there website as well.

Even thought they claimed that they "rushed", a manufacturer should know EVERYTHING about their own device.
Sumas 7" Tablet
I also purchased one at Fry's Black Saturday sale for $88.
I called the company this morning.
It should work with Flash 10.1 accordingly to the person I talked to.
It is not a capacitve screen.
I am not sure if I want to open the package as Fry's charges a 15% restocking fee.
The parent company is Solar Region in China.

Hi,
Thank you for your response, how do you know its not a capacitive screen if you havent opened it? Ive been searching online nonstop still havent found anything saying it is not? I called Sumas again, after I read your post and the guy changed his story and said it was capacitive now?
Although Im not sure I believe him, he kept saying "multitouch with no stylus needed"
Ill keep looking and see post up on what i find. thanks again for your response.

That means it is capacitive (most likely). Capacitive touch screens do not need styluses (some cannot use styluses). If it was resistive, you would most likely need a stylus (unless your fine pounding your device ).

I know it is not a capacitive screen as:
1 - Sumas technical support told me.
2 - I was at Fry's today and they had a demo unit. It is not a capacitive screen.
I will be returning mine.
I should have also mentioned that is does not have a G-Sensor. To change from landscape to portrait mode there is screen icon you must press.

Wow, thanks for the info! thats crazy, its listed right on there specs, is it listed on yours as well? I called frys today after I saw your receint post, I had them connect me with there tablet sales area, and the guy there told me the screen was capacitive. Im not sure i believe him though. I also have been searching online and i found another user on another forum who said he purchased one as well and said the screen was very hard to press and use which makes me think this is resistive. I guess im going to be returning these as well. Possibly try out the wopad v7+ those seem to have pretty good reviews in general and overall similar price range. Goodluck! If anyone still has anymore info please share!

Hi all, first post and need help!

Hi all,
I was hoping someone could offer some advice.
I am due to be working away from home for half the month and at the moment my set up at home consists of a beast of a gaming rig. I don't want to fork out for an expensive gaming laptop and thought the prime might be a good option for me.
So a few questions...
1. How do the remote desktop applications fare on the prime? Essentially I would need to use the prime to wake up my pc at home, control torrent downloads and maybe play a game with low graphic demands like football manager (i'm not expecting BF3 or other FPS...could an MMO work via remote desktop? like TOR?)
2. With regards to the "cloud storage" do you get 2gb with the transformer prime? if so can this also be accessed via a pc at home? So I could for example...
Remotely download a movie.
Put the movie file onto the cloud storage.
Access the movie file from my prime so that I can watch it in an area without wifi.
3. Is there a way to add a 3g dongle to the prime?
4. I am due a phone upgrade in March. I currently have a HTC desire which has stood the test of time for it's 2 year contract. Money is a little tight so I was considering getting my phone upgrade and sticking it on ebay to cover most of the prime's cost. I figure I only need a phone for calls and the built in sat nav and the prime can do the rest. also my HTC desire can only get me £75 from mobile recycling places.
5. As I have to wait until March is there a tablet I have overlooked which will be released in March that would be superior to this...basically if i am waiting until March should I hold out for something else?
Thanks in advance for the replies everyone!

I use Teamviewer, it runs the computer just like I was in front of it, never tried major gaming on it though. I don't think it would work well since most of the login apps out there decrease colors and other things to enhance performance.
2. With regards to the "cloud storage" do you get 2gb with the transformer prime? if so can this also be accessed via a pc at home? So I could for example...
You get 8 gb, and yes you can access/sync it from any computer. I use it to sync my work, Prime, and home computer files

In order to do that it will have to be downloaded first to your prime, but it can be done.

Don't know

right now it really is a waiting game to see what other tablets come out by then, if any. Probably the Ipad3 will be out, and I would guess 1-2 more Tegra 3 tabs, but they may hit production delays just like the prime did, no one really knows, right now it is a crap shoot. The great part is this tab is going to be competitive with anything that comes out next year for the most part.
Thanks in advance for the replies everyone!

Ok, my msg is too short....
You can control your PC over the internet using TeamViewer. No, you won't be able to play an MMO or do other major gaming on it. I guarantee you that TOR will be a slideshow, you'll be able to gather nodes (if you log near them) and manage Crew Missions but that's about it.
If you are running Windows7 you will need to use a Magic Packet to wake your PC to manage torrents, etc. I believe there is also an Android app that will remotely manage Mircotorrent (aka uTorrent) remotely without requiring you to manage your PC.
You can share your files via DropBox (or similar) as long as you are mindful of the 2GB limit.
No better tablet has been announced for March release yet, and if it were (given the industry standard of badly slipped release dates) I wouldn't count on it. Now if one had been announced with a January release....
You can remote in using Splashtop HD to remote in. It transmits both video and audio. Just have to install remote viewer software on the pc.

In relation to the 3g single question, Asus feel that as android phones can tether then peeople would just tether to their prime. Obviously they are assuming that everyone with a prime will already have a smart phone with tethering available, this is a stretch.

wow some fantastic comments thank you all.
I think there has to be a limit to expectation here. I'm not expecting the remote desktop to run things perfectly but it won't be it's primary function otherwise I'd just get a laptop.
So £500 then...I wonder if carphonewarehouse would do a deal if you buy a contract from them.
splashtop HD or built in splashtop in mycloud in mydesktop should work fine for video or gaming. just make sure to load reviewer on to PC. pretty simple setup. load reviewer on PC. load on tablet. enter names and passwords on both devices and your good to go.
another thing to look at for gaming is OnLive. its out for Android. allows you to play PC/console/Indie games through the cloud on OnLive servers. response time is fastest out there and basically no lag. feels just as if you natively playing the game. there are some great games up there like PC/Nvidia optimized Batman Arkham City, Homefront fps, Metro 2033, unreal tournament(PC version), etc.. the games look and play great on the prime. no loss in quality basically. the app is free from marketplace. free to make an account. you get to play all the games with a free 30 min. trial period. you can flat out buy the game but best seems to be the bundle package. for $9.99 a month you have unlimited access to 100's of top notch PC/console games. I was playing Darksiders, through OnLive, on my prime. no lag at all, graphics looked sick. definitely a cool experience and great deal considering the caliber and number of games they have up there.

This has been around for a while if you have a smartTV, meaning a wifi enabled tv. There are several brands but Samsung is probably the best for mirroring android although Lenova has their smartTV that has ICS preinstalled on it. Samsung has SWIPEIT where you swipe up to mirror and swipe down to stop mirroring. If you want to simply mirror your device to a standard HDTV that has no connectivity you need to use "MirrorOP" and you have to buy the reciever which is $250 if you buy it from them but you can find them for around $170 on Amazon and a couple other sites. The reciever is called "McTiVia" and its worth it especially if your willing to chop body parts off $170-$250 should be nothing to you.
http://www.amazon.com/McTiVia-Wireless-PC-MAC-computers/dp/B004W2T2V0
Here's a video of it in action http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBktJ6tT6r8&feature=youtube_gdata_player Mirroring starts off kinda slow for about 30 seconds then it smooths out and runs frame for frame with your device. This can be used on most android devices plus MACs, PCs & iDevices. I am surprised you all haven't heard about this cause its been out for a year or more.

I want to like it, I really do. BUT...

The design of this thing is awesome. Pair it with those monster 14 pound EACH speakers and man, that's drool worthy.
However, this device is kinda confusing to me. Is it a dumbed down receiver? Is it a dumbed down Google TV device? I can play vids from YouTube and and Google Play and music and that's it?
Where are the shots of what ever interface this will have? Where is Netflix? Huluu Plus? Amazon Prime? This seems to be the most limited - as far as what can be done with it from the get-go - device I have seen El Goog push out in a long while. Sad.
As good as it looks, it seems rushed to me. Why pay $299 for something that is simply novelty and available in many different flavors already?
Till they add a bit to it, or someone hacks it and makes it much better. Sorry Goog, I pass.
While they were doing the presentation, I understood it as it was just a receiver that connects to some speakers or a tv, so once you connect to it (I forget if it was WIFI or NFC) you can just play music or videos on the speakers or tv; and anybody that connects to it is able to play what they want on it.
It looks great and all but for $300 its definitely not worth the price tag.
This is on the network so I hope that it has easy access to Windows shares and that it will be able to play 1080p MKVs with lossless audio.
I haven't played around with playback on devices.
Even though it is pricey if it has this full feature set then I may pick this up. Would be a nice improvement over plugging in a laptop to the TV.

I'm hoping there is at least some logic within the box that allows you to play more sophisticated content.

It's $300 because it's supposedly actually manufactured in America... so do with that what you will
I'm still very confused as to what it is/how it works. Doesn't seem worthwhile.
seems like the coolest looking piece of crap.
The engadget preview says much of the price is because of the built in amp, which, IMHO is totally unnecessary. I have a surround sound system.. why would I want stereo sound from that puny little thing?
Drop the amp and $100 off the pricetag and this thing will sell itself. Oh, and unlock the damn thing. Only plays stuff from the play store? Google is starting to sound like apple...

Really? It has a USB port explicitly for the purpose of hacking it. I have no doubt the Nexus Q will be a cool device to own once there's enough dev support for it.
It seems like Google released the Nexus Q with the idea that the android community would figure out what to do with it.
Nexus q + dev support = sold. However I will wait for the support first instead of buying and hoping....
Its an interesting device, but I'm disappointed that they at least didn't add an "airplay" style connection for displaying your phone or tablet screen on the tv via wifi. That would at least make it more appealing for the price
I sat there during the keynote thinking what a killer feature this would have been for a google tv. Instead it's a more expensive and more limited device.
I came away from i/o feeling like the google tv is being de-prioritized and they want to push this device instead because it's locked down to google play content. There were zero mentions of google tv during either of the keynotes. There were sessions but after sitting through a few it seemed as if all the new and exciting things were happening in other product lines. I don't mean this as a dig at the google tv devs. I just think the company has made a cooporate decision to lock this down.
Maybe I'll feel a little different after unboxing it tonight and playing with it some but I just can't see myself getting on board this product line and I'm a google fanboy. It just feels like a limitations by design concept.

That's cool. But inconsistent. Not everyone is tech savvy enough to even flash anything and I would be more apt to group those individuals with ones who would use the banana plugs on the back. It doesn't take an audiophile to desire more than 2 channels of sound.
I think its a brilliant device and ill probably get one once the price goes down. I just think it may increase sales to offer one without the amp - is it really that big of a selling point?

Agreed. This isn't like our Android phones running custom ROMs. You buy an Android phone, ANY Android phone, and you can:
1. Make phone calls
2. Send text messages
3. Use email
4. Browse the web
5. Download, install, and use the full Play Store catalog of apps
All without any hacking at all. When you install a custom rom, you're basically getting a few added features, customization, optimization, maybe the ability to overclock or run a select few apps that need root. You know, little things that aren't necessary but are nice to have.
The Nexus Q is different because it's gimped right out of the box. You basically can't do anything with it, other than play music and videos from the Play Store only (and who even has a huge collection of that stuff?). Even the very first Apple TV was capable of streaming content through a local network, even if it was limited to stuff you added to your iTunes library.
I appreciate Google reaching out to the dev community, but they can't rely on them to do all their work for them. What the Nexus Q should have been was a tiny Android desktop computer, controllable directly with an Android phone using a specific app (something like Gmote) and able to run any and all Android apps. I'm excited when I see thumb-sized Android computers available for under $100. The NQ could have been a cooler, more premium version of that, but as it is, it's both overpriced AND has no features.
YouTube app
So not living in US forces me to use Music and the YouTube app. Now it's time to do some raging.
Playing youtube vids on my tv is awesome through the app and all that. But I want to be able to play several videos. I have several playlists but the only option on a playlist in the youtube app is to delete it. Opening the playlists gives you the possibility to play one (and only one) video in a row. It really sucks. I don't want to open the app every time a video has ended :/
Guys what are you complaining about? Your where given cool toy for free because you are developers. You are suppose to find better applications for it . Just do it. Few years ago you had T-Mobile android phone without anything useful on it , nobody completed
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
All you guys in here complaining are just not dev or inspiring to be one cause from what I seen you're able to load a launcher to it from adb and stream netflix in 1080 so you guys dont really understand android or google yet but you will.
Sadly, I will buy a multitude of these for a project if someone can get the damn thing rooted and unlocked...

[Q] Ipush

I just got one last week, and am a little more impressed with it than you are. Tried it last night with my Nexus7 (2012), and had it quite happily streaming a movie onto the TV via both its own iPush app and also various DLNA apps (Skifka, MediaHouse etc). Setting it up was reasonably easy compared to some reports I've read online about it, although the interface was a little clunky and took a while. Plus of course the written documentation shipped with the device is awful, although ironically the on-screen stuff that the iPush actually displays on the TV when you connect it is much clearer.
So far I only see a couple of negatives. The biggest one is that its built-in WiFi hotspot seems to have a fixed password and always be broadcast (even when it's connected to another device/router), which I would say is a fairly major security hole as it could let someone into the network as a back door. Secondly when I tried it with my HTX 8X (WinPhone 8) it was visible as a renderer to MyMediaHub when the phone was connected directly to the iPush's hotspot, but it didn't seem to pick it up when connected via another hotspot (my Ravpower WD-01 filehub) even though my N7 happily did so in the same scenario. But that second one could just as easily be a glitch with the HTC.
But I have read elsewhere of several people having issues with iOS and Airplay, which I think were also mentioned in the Amazon sales blurb when I got mine (being on Android I didn't take too much notice as it doesn't apply to me). Basically that there wasn't video support for Airplay due to license/copyright issues or something, but beyond that maybe a little Google-Fu could turn something up?
Anyway there seem to be a few firmware updates around which may (I hope) address the wifi password concern. But that's tonight's little project.
