how to have 5 ROM on Razr/Maxx | MULTIBOOT - Motorola Droid RAZR

hi all motorola fans
today i want to learn you how can install 5 custom rom side your stock FW
1st : you need be on stock JB 4.1.2
2nd you need to download SafeStrap from there : http://goo.im/devs/Hashcode/spyder/Safestrap-JB41-3.07.apk
install SafeStrap as normal app than open it and touch on install recovery and wait to complete
than download any custom rom and put zip file in phone memory
reboot your phone
wow you see new screen touch on menu key and go to recovery
in recovery 1st you need to make new partion for any custom rom you want to install so touch on boot options and go to rom-slot-1 and put data partion size on 1GB and create rom slot, wait to complete
go you 1st page and this time touch on install
find your zip file and let to install
do it for other 3 custom rom
for boot :
go to boot options touch on rom-slot-1 (any partion you install your rom) and touch on active
than go back and touch on reboot
WARNING : you can install only rom with same base "base mean jb ics" and version is not matter "4.1.2 and 4.2.2 have same base"

Well, this is basic knowledge for each user, so it's good to share it. But you could extend it with some important details, like:
+SS AOSP Roms have restrictions to Rom slots (e.g. CM10.1 must be on Slot 1, etc)
+Handling of backups, selective backups, restoring, moving systems, etc
+Usage of TWRP File Explorer
+Ability of ADB
+Unbrick solution (given by the tools and options given by SS)
Only to mention some of them Why not making this a real SS tutorial?

Do you know if there is a way to fix the problem while flashing to stock slot:
E:Unable to unmount /system
I cannot flash anything to stock slot.

[Q] Confused about ClockWorkMod

Hi everyone. I'm running Galaxy Ace, stock ROM Android 2.3.4
Never flashed a custom ROM before, so be gentle.
Phone already rooted (I have the superuser icon)
From reading threads here at xda, I have download these 3:
1. ClockWorkModAce.zip
2. recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.6-galaxyace-fix.zip
3. GT-I9100_ClockworkMod-Recovery_4.0.0.2.tar
I'm guessing number 3 is not for galaxy ace, right? So that leaves 1 and 2.
QUESTIONS:
1. Are 1 and 2 essentially the same thing? Which do you suggest I use?
2. These two files are on my laptop. Should I simply copy either one of them to my phone's sd card, turn off phone, boot into recovery by pressing home and power button simultaneously, select "Apply update from sd card", then select either ClockWorkModAce.zip or recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.6-galaxyace-fix.zip?
3. After installing either of the two files, and rebooting, would "nandroid" be on my phone then?
4. I believe nandroid backs up EVERYTHING into sd card (recovery image, right?). Can I then copy it to my thumb drive or laptop so I can erase it from the sd card?
5. If I want to get back to my stock ROM, is it done by booting into the custom recovery (like the clockworkmod) and selecting an option there?
6. After going back to stock ROM, how would I go back to stock recovery too?
7. For clarification, when you guys are saying cwm or clockworkmod, do you mean ROM Manager? Because a lot of guys are warning me against it! I just found out clockworkmod is the name of the developer, not the app.
8. From the ROM Manager page at market.android.com ,
Samsung users: You must flash a Clockwork compatible kernel first (see XDA forums)
Is this really necessary?? So much prerequisites! =P
9. Should I install ICS Beta Full on my Galaxy Ace Android 2.3.4???
10. Already rooted, so how much time will it take from installing cwm to installing the custom ROM? I want to know so I won't panic
11. If I install cwm, does the recovery automatically becomes the custom recovery?
12. What does a full wipe mean and do I do it with the stock recovery or with the custom recovery?
Please be as detailed as possible, and use small words.
Appreciate it guys!
Thanks a lot!
first zip is for cwm4 official one
second is cwm5.. i personally prefer cwm4 as had no problems with it
cwm5 failed to take backup when i tried to several times
and i have flashed all roms that claims to do it with cwm5 with cwm4 with no problems at all
you can copy backup images to laptop but DO NOT modify names of any folder as it will result in mismatch of md5 so copy directly folder as it is without modification
ROM MANAGER IS ***** DO NOT INSTALL ON SGA or else you loose your device damn
you can flash it on stock kernel as well
if you want to go back to stock rom from restoring backup then your backup must be taken after converting filesystem to ext4 or else it will fail..
so before backing up flash cf-root and convert fs to ext4 to save time of flashing stock from odin and then restoring backups
thats your option to install cm9 on phone as its not stable and needs many changes at this time.. if you are ok with bugs then you can
1. yes u should delete it. judging by the name its for sgs2, would brick ur phone instantly if flashing that one.
2. i dont really sure about cwm 5.0.2.6 (ur second file) either it can be flash from stock recovery or not but the cwm 4.0.0.6 (ur 1st file) definitely can. and i think its "install zip from sdcard" in stock recovery to flash it.
3. yes.
4. yes, its located in /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup.
5. yes.
6. by flashing stock rom via odin.
7. nope. here if we said cwm or clockworkmod, its referring to the recovery itself (clockworkmod recovery). rom manager is different thing, a tool used to flash cwm or rom. and yes, u should avoid it as countless sga already bricked because of it. and yes, clockworkmod is nickname of the guy who created it and named it as clockworkmod recovery, and here we just called it cwm.
8. again, avoid using rom manager
and u probably wanna read this
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/what-is-clockworkmod-recovery-and-how-to-use-it-on-android-complete-guide/
1.First one is official CWM recovery..Its v4..Second one is unofficial CWM recovery..Its v5..I didnt have any problem with them both..But,you should not rename the backups you take with cwm5,it will give you a md5 mismatch error when you do that..
2.Yes..Just copy the file to the sd card
3.Nandroid is a feature of CWM...So,yes.When you flash cwm,you get Nandroid backup
4.Yes...It backsup everything on your phone. But as amit said,Dont rename them
5.By stock,if what you mean is,an untouched Firmware, like the one you got from the factory..Yes..But if you are going to flash any roms,it may convert the system partition to ext4,which will result in a bootloop if you try to restore the stock you have now. So,a better option will be to flash with Odin
6.If you go back to stock, you would still have cwm as your recovery..If you want your stock recovery back, you will have to do a flash with Odin(But,trust me,You will never feel to go back to a complete stock rom and the stock recovery after you start playing around with the other cm7 roms
7.CWM is a recovery..ROM Manager is an application..ClockWorkMod recovery is not a developer..Koushik Dutta is the developer of both CWM recovery and Rom Manager..If you have any thought about using ROM manager, then i suggest that you clean that thought because ROM manager does NOT support Galaxy Ace and if you use ROM manager to flash a rom,you are going to BRICK your device
8.Nothing like that, from what i know.I never flashed any kernel Right after i rooted my ace,i flashed cwm recovery..I didnt do anything else
9.Its your choice..The Myth Ics is an awesome rom

about number 5 and using odin in general
Hi. Thanks a lot guys for your effort in helping out a newbie.
I'm a bit confused about using odin. Is odin like the "safer" way to flash ROMs?
I know I can flash a ROM via booting into recovery, then "install update from sd card", and selecting the ROM. Does Odin do the same thing? When exactly should Odin be used? Only when I want to go back to my original stock firmware AND the original/stock recovery?
Thanks!
As far I know, ODIN is only for flashing stock ROM's.
And well, even if it can be used to flash custom rom's,please do not use it. ODIN can brick your phone. Flashing via recovery is the most safest way
further clarification
Hey guys, thanks a lot. Please clear these up for me:
1. If I am now on stock ROM (never flashed a custom ROM before), then I flash a custom ROM like TheMyth ICS Beta 2 Full, and wish to go back to my stock ROM (which was backed up with clockworkmod recovery), do I simply boot into cwm recovery and restore the stock ROM or do I use Odin?
2. If I am now on stock ROM (never flashed a custom ROM before), then I flash a custom ROM like TheMyth ICS Beta 2 Full, and wish to try another custom ROM like cyanogenMod, should I just flash cyanogenMod with cwm recovery? Meaning, from TheMyth ICS Beta 2 Full straight to CyanogenMod via cwm recovery? Or do I have to go back to stock ROM, as well as stock recovery, by using Odin, and then flash cyangogenMod via stock recovery?
3. If I am now on stock ROM and wish to upgrade to an official android version thru samfirmware.com, do I simply flash it with the stock recovery or do I have to use Odin?
Thanks a lot guys!
1- yes
2- yes, straight away. no need to go to stock rom
3- odin

[Q] Fascinate Slim ROMS Status 7 then bootloop

I am currently running CM10.1 on my Fascinate on Verizon and it works well, when I try and flash any of the 4.2 and even the new 4.3 Slim ROM I get a status 7 error and says try again to confirm so I flash it a second time then it just boot loops and I have to odin back to stock. My question is the boot loop from the status 7 error or from it just being the wrong ROM. I have tried to format /system before installing without luck as well.
When coming up from odin are you using the the GB bootloader?
Other problem could just be from certain sd cards don't work well on fascinate.
Odin from Powerwashed EC09
When I start I use (Powerwashed EC09 with modem) then (CWM4) then I flash (eh03_tsm_res2.2). From there I will try to flash slim rom and I get the status 7 message but if I try and flash CM9,CM10, or CM10.1 they work. I have a 32 GB Class 10 SD card.

you also missed installing the GBbootloader.tar file
you should do that right after you odin the
cwm4_fixed_for_cm7-ODIN.tar
you can install to 4.2.x this way::
Power off and pull battery,
remove micro sdhc card
put into d/l mode, install battery
odin:: :: PDA Slot :: CI500_VZW_EH03_GB_CM.tar.md5 ::
and in the :: PIT Slot :: Atlas_v2.2.pit ,,, and appropriately check box [[ Re-Partition ]]
when finished
reboot (important)
~~check out all of Verizon goodness ~~
oh sorry,,,
Power off and pull battery
put into d/l mode, install battery
odin:: :: PDA Slot :: cwm4_fixed_for_cm7-ODIN.tar
when finished, click reset in odin
pull battery and usb to power down the fassy and close out of odin
put into d/l mode, install battery
odin:: :: BOOTLOADER Slot :: GBbootloaders.tar ,,, and appropriately check box [[ Phone Bootloader Update ]]
when finished, click reset in odin
pull battery and usb to power down the fassy and close out of odin
Reinstall micro sdhc card
Use three finger ,, [[[ Hold -- Volume buttons UP / Down & Power ]] into CWM blue recovery 4 [ie: cwm4_fixed_for_cm7]
((you have to use this recovery at this point in the process,,, it lets file system properly update from a bml ROM to an mtd ROM)))
and, Choose the Wipe Data/Factory reset, and also wipe dalvik cache [1 time for each is fine]
then while still in recovery,,, flash your 4.2.x ROM of choice,,,
most likely it will auto reboot into any newer recovery 6.0.x.x, or new TWRP 2.x.x Recovery,,, never go back to the [cwm4_fixed_for_cm7] recovery,, ,, unless you have ODIN'ed back to stock,,, ,,, this is normal,,, and you will need to select install zip from sd [again]::
and choose to install/flash your 4.2.x ROM of choice AGAIN,
if it auto reboots you back into this same recovery again [meening: any newer recovery]
...[[[ the recovery style and version is determined by the ROM you are installing, some have standard CWM Recovery, some have Hellybean Touch Recovery,,, some have TWRP Recovery, and some have a blue Touch Recovery version ]]]...
,,, still that is fine/normal ,,,,,,, simply install/flash your 4.2.x ROM of choice AGAIN,
if it auto reboots and tries to load the ROM,, if not manually choose to Reboot Rom,,, and ,,, Wait ,,, patiently,,, ,,, maybe as much as 8-10 minutes for it to boot all the way up.
you may ultimately have to flash 1 more time,, some ROMs seem do be more finicky than others.
After that you really should be almost good to go.
On the 1st boot of your new 4.2.x ROM give the filesystem about 5-10 minutes to scan through everything before making any changes to any of your ringtones or notifications
after that reboots into recovery,,,Wipe cache,,, and Install a gapps zip of choice::: [ either whats recommended by the ROM dev/maintainer,,, or an official gapps of the appropriate date that matches your ROM ]
reboot
Enjoy your jellybean goodness ~ Yummy!

Still Status 7
I did everything up to the CWM4 blue screen wiped data and dalvik then tried to install Slim 4.2 build 6,7 &8 and got the status 7 error on all three builds. I have seen some people saying to by-pass this you can edit the updater in the ROM file. Do you think this has something to do with the version of my phone because CM9 & 10, PAC, and Hellybean work fine, Liquid Smooth and Slim do not.
What is weird the latest 4.3 slim not from their website but from the XDA dev post works Slim-fascinatemtd-4.3.build.1.2-UNOFFICIAL-20130927-1827.zip posted by BDogg718. No other versions will work. And I can not use this ROM because MMS does not work.

[Q] Recovery Help

Ok i had the PhilZ Touch 5 Recovery and running a Stock Sammy JB 4.1.2 rom.
So i decided to test an AOSP rom (RootBox to be precise).
And i downloaded the Rom and Gapps put them on my internal Sdcard and flashed (doing alll the wipes etc...) after i wanted to reboot into recovery and flash the gapps (before i boot up the new Rom) and the Philz touch 5 revocery was gonne and now i have CWM 6.0.x.x
What happened and how can i fix?
EDIT : ok i realised i asked a stupid question and that PhilZ rec only works with Stock roms... BUT : how can i revert back ? do i just flash a Stock rom ?
When you flash a new kernel (which is obviously included in any rom package), you'll end up with whatever recovery that kernel has. If you want to go back to stock, thread stickied near the top of Q&A has the info you need (but you should really know this stuff inside out/be able to do it in your sleep before you start flashing custom roms/anything else).

I'm Rooted using CM installer- can I flash a different ROM?

I have an S4 with CM10.2 which was done through the CM installer.
Unlike traditional rooting, cyanogen installer roots and installs the cm Rom in a few clicks automatically.
This new method leads me to believe that I must unroot to stock and root manually in order to use a different ROM.?
Or can I go ahead and download a rom, put it in the sd card, boot into the thing, and flash the ROM?
I'm trying to flash foxhound ROM.
Need an answer guys, it's not on Google.
Bumping this.
I don't have an s4 nor have I ever used a oneclickrootmeapp but to my understanding on how the cyanogen installer works is that it flashes clockwork recovery and cyanogenmod + kernel to your device
So I would say 99% sure that no you don't need to do anything special here, steps I would take
Download ROM of choice + gapps or any extras needed
Check md4sums for match
Put on SD
Boot to recovery
Do a nandroid backup
Wipe everything but SD
Flash ROM and whatever else needed
Reboot
And all should be just fine

I salute you.

[RECOVERY LOCKED/ND7] Safestrap Recovery v4.00 B01 [2015-11-28]

VERIZON SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 2 (T0LTE)
PLEASE READ READ READENTIRE OP
"ALL MAJOR WORK DONE BY HASHCODE SO GO GIVE HIM SOM THANKS.DO NOT POST ANY BUG OR ISSUE COUSED BY THIS RECOVERY IN ORIGINAL THREAD BY HASHCODE, POST HERE AND I WILL HELP YOU."
CURRENT PROJECT STATUS:
BETA v4.00-B01 (ND7/KK)
WHAT IS SAFESTRAP?
Safestrap is a Bootstrap / Recovery for locked bootloader phones. The goal is to avoid touching your primary system (I'll call this "stock" system) and only flash or make large changes to another place on your phone that Safestrap treats as a "2nd system" (in this case, it's a series of virtual ROM slots located on the internal emmc area: "/sdcard"). Once installed, you will see a "Splashscreen" giving you the option to hit "menu" to enter recovery. The recovery portion of Safestrap is now based on TWRP 2.6.1.0 (a touch based recovery) and you can perform .zip installs, backups and restores here. The additional features I've added to TWRP are mostly located under the "Boot Options" menu:
Here you can create virtual ROM-slots (3-4 on the S3 due to partition size and internal space) for flashing ROMs. NOTE: The bigger you make the /data partition the less room you will have to make other ROM-slots.
You can activate a new ROM-slot by choosing the slot you wish to make active and then selecting the "Activate" button. Once active, you will see the "rom-slot#" up in the top of the screen shown in green. If you make the "stock" ROM active, then you can see it in the top shown in red.
Once a ROM-slot is active, all actions you would normally perform using TWRP are directed to that ROM-slot. For example, "Install" to flash a .zip, backup and restore.
HOW DO I INSTALL SAFESTRAP?
Requirement: Root
[NEW FOR v4.00+ KK Safestrap] Requirement: Uninstall old Safestrap application.
[NEW FOR v3.75+ KK Safestrap] Requirement: busybox. Grab "Busybox" from the Play Store and run the installer.
Once installed, open up the Safestrap application, Agree to the disclaimer that you won't try to sue me and hunt me down with a rifle if you manage to break your phone..
Then use the "Install Recovery" button. You should see the current version down in the lower left corner of the window. And the "Status:" should say "Installed" when you're done.
From there you can reboot and you *should* see a new splash screen during the boot up. While this is showing you can enter Safestrap Recovery using the [ menu ] button.
INSTALL VIDEO by DMX: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RZI...e_gdata_player
HOW DO I ENTER RECOVERY?
During each reboot a splashscreen will be displayed showing whether the device is running a rom-slot or on the "Stock ROM".
Press the button shown on the screen to either enter "RECOVERY" or "CONTINUE" booting (or the hard button underneath each option).
HOW DO I UPGRADE SAFESTRAP?
Push the APK up to your sdcard.
Boot back into the "stock" rom-slot.
Open your old Safestrap app and use the "Uninstall Recovery" button
Browse to where you pushed the APK
Click on it and install like normal
Once installed, open the APK, Grant SU access, Use the "Install Recovery" button.
KNOWN ISSUES:
- Sometimes the installation doesn't work correctly. If you don't see the splashscreen after a rebooting. Install Safestrap again. (DEBUGGING THIS AS I GET TIME)
- Busybox is now required for the Safestrap APK to work correctly

How to...
The theme zips are not flashable. First installation has to be done manually:
- Download the theme and rename it to "ui.zip".
- On SD card (if device has internal and external storage, use the internal) open TWRP folder and create a folder called "theme", without capital letters.
- Copy ui.zip to theme folder.
- Restart to recovery.

The only way to unlock the bootloader at this point is to have this done. They will downgrade your Note 2 to 4.1.2 which can be unlocked. Sorry it is what it is.
