[Q] NOOB Developer Edition Questions - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I'm starting a list of Noob questions for the Dev Edition
and hopefully someone can answer them.
1) Can the stock Non-Rooted VZW Non Dev Edition be ODIN'd on this device?
2) Can GE image Non-Rooted be ODIN'd on this device?
3) Can any of the ROMs' in these Forums be used with this device once custom recovery installed and Rooted?
This list will be updated as I will get/have more questions and answers

SGS2 - Root / Kernel / ROM?

Hi All.
I last rooted a HTC Desire well over a year (or 2) ago and I am now looking into rooting my Samsung Galaxy S2 - I9100, from Optus in Australia.
Although well versed, I am finding myself in noob land trying to read and firgure out what is the correct way to alter my phone.
Firstly I apologise for posting something that I am sure is answered out here. So please just point me to the right place and close this thread if so.
I can see that the standard boot loader (hope I refer to that correctly) appears to allow you to install another OS (ROM).
This appears to be called ODIN.
Am I able to load new ROMs by using the default ODIN on the phone, or do I need to load something like ClockworkMod?
I am intending to download and install the generic stock ROM (non-carrier) version before looking into other variants.
I am assuming to load other ROMs, like say Cyanogen 9, I would have to go through the root process.
Aside from rooting, I am reading posts that refer to updating the kernel. What is the kernel and why do I need to change it?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

[Q] Before flashing deodexed ROM

hi guys!
I recently converted from an iPhone platform to Android and I'm loving it! I've learned a lot on these forums and performed my first root and unlocked the bootloader successfully on my new Note 2! This seems to be a thriving community with a lot of solid developers keeping the platform relevant for many older devices.
I do have a question in which I could not find the answer. I've been reading a lot about flashing odexed or deodexed roms. I think I generally understand these terms. However, I'm not sure I understand how it affects my future endeavors with ROM flashing.
I rooted with the first root method that became available, I believe it was by MrRobinson. I unlocked using Adam Outler's unlock method. Do I need to re-flash my ROM to a base Deodexed ROM before I can flash any of these custom Deodexed ROM's? I assume since I'm on the stock ROM, I am using an odexed system. Or can I simply just flash any odexed/deodexed ROM I choose without worrying about a "base" ROM to work with? Or perhaps I'm completely misunderstanding odex/deodex.
Thank you in advance for answering my newb question

[Q] Custom Recovery and Rom Question

I'm sure this has been asked but I just wanted to verify I had my information correct, I have rooted and put custom roms on a gs3 in the past so I have little experience but don't want to brick my gs4 and it seems it may be a slightly difference process.
Essentially I want to get CM10 on my Verizon GS4
I found these root directions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2290798
They seem pretty straight forward. I would assume I follow these directions and install TWRP or clockwork mod after its rooted then just flash my roms, however I saw something about Loki on another thread and getting around the bootloader. Do I have to do anything special involving that or once I am rooted can I just install the custom recovery from the app store and start installing roms...
Also how do I check if I have the update that just came out that prevents flashing roms.
Sorry if this was asked but I didn't see my specific question anywhere and I would really appreciate the help.
Also would you recommend going with the google edition or CM10?

Im fairly certain TWRP is pre-loki'd now, so you wont have to worry about it.
In about phone, look under baseband version, If it doesn't say i545VRUAMDK then you have the new update that isnt rootable yet.
And for your last question, i havent tried either of them yet (I'm on hyperdrive).

Why not read the thread you linked to (yes it is answered in there), or ask in the thread if you cant see the answer?
Short answer is NO it will not turn a togari in to a togari_gpe and there is no rom that will
Please do not post non development related threads in the development section

What Would You Choose??? Custom ROM or Privilege of root access with Stock ROM.

Hi All,
This thread might not be interesting to many "Geeks", who are aware of flashing custom ROM, Unlocking Bootloader, Get root access of your android device, Android Development and many more.
But your response might help few newbies who are still have no clue about these terms but wanted to do some techie stuffs wit their Android device.
Which is the best option you would prefer to ?? Newly rolled out fresh latest custom ROM on your device or Stick to same old kernel, baseband, ROM and wanted to play safely with rooted device.
P.S:- You can share the threads of discussion which are already shared so that this topic could bring an over all idea/benefits/Dos & Dont's of custom ROMs and Rooted devices .:good:
