Hey guys, I just ported over my number and switched over from Verizon to the One on T-Mobile. As I'm typing this, I'm still on my Verizon Galaxy S4 since I currently only have a temporary T-Mobile number until the switch is complete.
Anyhow, I don't believe I have LTE right now. My coworker has the One and was pulling down almost 30mbps and I can't even hit 2mbps. Play Store downloads are slow, etc.
I live in San Diego which has LTE. I have attached a couple screen shots of what I'm seeing. Am I connected to LTE? Could it be that I won't get it until my switch is complete? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I work for T-Mobile and also have the One and no your not on LTE. You are on hspa+. Kind of like 4g lite. When you are in a 4g LTE area, you will a tiny 4g then below it the letters LTE. Hope that helps. Update to the newest software update to get better signal out of the One

You're misinformed, unfortunately. The Galaxy S3 does not have WiMax, only LTE.
setting<more settings<mobile networks<network mode< and LTE/CDMA.
it will require a restart of the phone. hope this helped.
If you are in an lte zone do what post 3 says and you should be up and running, but if not im sorry to tell you but post 2 is correct there is no wimax, only lte but dont worry its much faster and im sure will head to area soon :good:
Thanks i was surely misinformed i thought it had wimax too. Had no clue.

I live in a 3g only area, and today my phone has started showing 4g sporadically.
When the phone shows 4g my data stops working and then all data cuts out and 3g comes back.
I'm running viper Rom with snuzzo kernel. Could this be a software issue? The Verizon website does not have my city listed for current or upcoming 4g availability.

if you know you are in a city with no 4g and dont plan on getting it soon, why not change it to CDMA only? The phone might think its getting a signal from a 4g tower and its causing it to switch like that

This has never happened before today, so I was hoping it was me getting 4g in my area.....
I tried the cdma only setting, and my data as a whole is spotty now. My wife's thunderbolt is doing the same thing now.
Is this what its like when they flip the 4g switch? Does anybody else remember when 4g came on in there area?

they might be testing the 4g radio in your area and it that might be causing it. give it a couple of days, if it doesnt fix you might want to as a vzw rep. for me it was back when tbolt launched when we got 4g
What ROM are you using? I know that on some ROMS, like cyanogenmod, it's actually best to keep phone on the setting that supports multiple data modes.
I live in a town of 15k and we just got 4G, so u may get it after all...

My speeds are pretty much not even LTE. In fact I was getting just as good speeds with my non-LTE Atrix 4g. From my bedroom I get about 1mbps and the upload...well if it registers at all I get 300kbps. Admittedly I get terrible terrible reception here even on my old phone. At my grandmas house where I get 3-4 bars I got up to 8mbps per second on one or two tests but often it was around 3mbps. The upload there never got above 600-700kbps. I live in Orange County, CA so maybe there are so many users that that's just as fast as we get...or maybe it's this phone. I dunno yet. Gonna try it at work(Disneyland) tomorrow and see how it works.
I attached a txt file with my tests...on most of them it says HSDPA, dunno what that even means.
Sounds like you do not have LTE in your area yet. The signal icon on your status bar will say 4G LTE if you have it.

But we do have LTE, it says on the coverage tracker that we do and my dad has the HTC One X and he gets LTE. Now that you mention it though it says 4G at the bar at the top of the screen and not LTE. Is it supposed to say LTE?
Yes it does say it right under the 4G. Go back and look at some of the screen shots. If you are both on At&t you should go to the store because you should have it also.

I don't know the AT&T network but on Rogers, Bell & Telus in Canada you need to specify an LTE APN. The HSPA/+ APN you have configured by default with your SIM probably won't support or recognize LTE service speeds, and even my 'LTE network' microSIM didn't import this automatically, I had to manually input the APN.
33/1.9 I wonder what's up with my upload speed.
Here is my test from Little Rock AR

Is the 4g symbol 4g lte, or is it hspa. Does the phone even support 4g lte and will the symbol say "4g lte" when it connects to it. I live in Portland Oregon and am using a HTC one m7 on t-mobile.

It's both. You'll want to download the SpeedTest app from the Play Store and see what your speeds are. If you are 15Mbps or below, then you're on HSPA+. Faster than 15 and you're on LTE. Although I don't think Portland has LTE just yet.
I only have HSPA+ in my neighborhood and it displays 4G.

That's not entirely correct. 4G is displayed for HSPA+ only whereas it will say 4G LTE when you're on LTE. I'm uploading a picture of how it looks when on the two.

Very helpful, thanks. It's weird a big city like Oregon is lacking 4g lte. I had it with Verizon in Portland, but t mobile has the cool phones....guess I can't have my cake, and eat it too.

It's been more than a month and it's stuck on Edge. Even when I go to the areas where I would have a strong signal of 4G, it doesn't change into 4G! This is really bugging me. My phone is S-ON, bootloader unlocked, and running Viper Amaze 1.7.0.1. Oh yeah, and T-Mobile is my carrier!

You need to check your apns and put in the correct t-mobile apn so it will give you the proper hspa+ rather than edge.

I usually set my phone to GSM Only when I go out, because it saves a lot of battery and still lets me stay connected to the internet.

There is no way to get lte on this phone it doesn't have lte. If it did people would have abysmal battery life because lte consumes too much battery.

Me too. Your friend's Verizon LTE was slow likely due to tower congestion. That's when too many people are on the tower and the bandwidth becomes tiny and people get slow data. I hope it doesn't happen to future T-mobile LTE,
My galaxy S6 is stuck on Edge as network type and it refuses to get out of GSM Only even if I try to set preferred network type. I can see the other network types displayed but when I press them it switches back immediately to GSM Only
