Ok so basically I have an Australian Vodafone S2...
Its a GT-I9100T
On fully STOCK 4.1.2
Baseband is I9100TDVLS3
Kernel version says:
3.0.32-889696
[email protected] #3
SMP PREEMPT Tue May 7 12:33:45
KST 2013
Build number:
JZO54K.I9100TDVLSM
now basically I've gone over threads, tried to learn how to root my device and get a custom recovery so i can install an MIUI rom but It seems that since the days of owning my first Optus S2 the whole process(s) have gotten much more difficult, confusing and complicated...
So I know its noob to ask but I don't care, can I get some help with rooting and gaining cwm recovery or something like that on my device so I can flash a custom rom please?

Which damn files do I actually need, because I can't figure it out -_-
If you still can't figure it out having read those two threads, leave your phone stock. They're self explanatory if you actually take the time to read them properly (as opposed to merely skimming them; taking shortcuts will probably lead to a busted phone).

Hello everyone, first time poster but very long time reader of these threads, i've been trying to get as much info as possible on this topic in the hope of reducing the noob-ness of my questions.
First off my phone specs are..
SGS2 on the 3/Vodafone network Australia
P-Code is GT-I9100LKJHUT
Model number GT-I9100T
Android Version 2.3.5
Baseband Version I9100TDUKJ1
Kernal Version 2.6.35.7-I9100TDUKJ1-CL687461
[email protected] #2
Build Number Gingerbread.DUKJ1
*#1234# returns...
PDA: I9100TDUKJ1
Phone: I9100TDUKJ1
CSC: I9100THUTKJ1
Build Info: Wed Oct 26 13:30:25 KST 2011
What i'd like to confirm is...
I have CF-Root-SGS2_XW_LUX_KJ1-v4.4-CWM4.tar
and CF-Root-SGS2_XW_LUX_KJ1-v5.0-CWM5.tar
are either of these two suitable to root my phone, and if so which would be better? or do i need to track down a kernel that more closely matches my stock one? I'm not too bothered about the yellow triangle or the counter increase as yet because i just want to get the root process right first, so can i safely continue using the new firmware/kernel instead of going back to stock just to remove the triangle.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and thanks in advance for any help.
You can use either, but use the 2nd one - later version of CWM. Apart from that, no difference.
So far as getting rid of the triangle/resetting the counter, get a jig & kill two birds with one stone. You can remove the triangle by another method, but it's fiddly and a jig is a must in any event.

Two points on above that OP should be aware of .
one ICS is not yet released beta rom only
two Triangle Away states
THIS IS A DANGEROUS OPERATION AND COULD POTENTIALLY BRICK YOUR DEVICE. PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK. A USB JIG IS PREFERRED IF YOU HAVE ONE.
( and by brick I mean brick - only a board replacement or a JTAG unit will be able to save you, don't mess with boot(loader) stuff unless you really mean it! )

I would go with the 2nd as it has a later version of CWM - the important part of the kernal is the last three digits yours and the kernels you have picked out match.
Thanks all for your replies, I must say what a relief it is to come to a forum where noob questions aren't met with derision and ridicule, I'm doubly glad because there's many more questions to come, thanks again.
P.s. where is the thanks button so I can give house all a big thumbs up?
Edit: there it is, I can't see for looking
Hi there (topic should say GT-i9100G)
Been searching for days to find a way to root my GT-i9100G model. I found plenty for previous builds of my kernel but nothing for this current one.
So I'm at the end of my wits and for the first time in years I'm turning to creating a thread on a forum, getting ready for the flame.
kernel: 2.6.35.7 DELL165 dpi @ # 2
Android version: 2.3.6
Build number is: GINGERBREAD.XXLA1
Baseband version: I9100GXXKL4
I had a i900 from work but after it broke my work phone was replaced with this model and I'm sick of not being able to run ICS on it.
Anyways, wanna get CWM on it, but I'm very green at the whole custom ROM scene, only thing I ever rooted was my 10.1 tab with Odin to flash AOKP's builds :\
Anyways, if anyone has any tip, don't be shy.

You DID mean GT-i9100G, right?
Need to know more, anyways. Build number?
Use super one click
Yes of course, silly me, GT-i9100G is my phone.
Build number is: GINGERBREAD.XXLA1
Baseband version: I9100GXXKL4
I've read others talk about super one click, the reports were very mixed and I think this build will not work, or am I wrong?

I believe SuperOneClick requires an insecure kernel to be flashed to your phone first before using it, right? You just have to make sure the insecure kernel is for the I9100G, and not the I9100. And if you cannot find an exact match for your kernel version for an insecure kernel, you will need a copy of your secure kernel to flash back when you're done rooting.
I'm afraid I don't know where to get these things for an I9100G, however, so you're on your own to look for them. (unless someone who knows this information sees this post and is kind enough to post it to you)
EDIT to add: that said, I've heard of a few custom kernels for the I9100G that, when flashed, will root your phone for you. I don't remember what they are though, you'll have to search for them.
EDIT 2: Found one (superatmos) that has a version compatible with your build.

You'd probably be slaughtered alive for posting this question. This is xda, mate. Search, read and try before posting questions. And even if you do have to post a question, find the correct thread for doing so.
Since you asked, look through this thread for all your rooting requirements. Me and probably a million others like you have read that and then managed to root their phones following the steps mentioned there.

Dont forget to thank the contributor.
Yours being 4.0.4 theres a problem with an EMMC bug bricking the phone. again, read the forums thoroughly before going ahead.
Just flash a pre-rooted kernel.
I guess there is a thread discussing about rooting.

***** PLEASE read this important information*****
-You are running stock 4.0.4 ROM which it's known to have brick bug on it's kernel.
-after rooting, DO NOT factory reset/data or restore any backup without changing your kernel to custom one. Siyah, Dorimanx, Dream, and Speedmod kernels are known to be safe.
-You must change your kernel after rooting. It's better to be safe than sorry

- then flash any of the kernel I listed above

I have the same setup as you so I think you can look into my thread which i started yesterday and Jokesy took the time and answered all my questions there including linking to a guide (thank you Jokesy, fantastic). I did not use Odin, but i used CWM Recovery Touch.
After following Jokesy link i rooted my phone, i installed the latest siyah S2 kernel (no beta), i also installed Titanium backup and purchased the PRO key. After that i followed an external link of services and programs that i could safely freeze/delete.
It shall be said that i have been using SGS2 since last spring/summer and this was my first time modifying anything with the phone.
Here is my thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1841641
Frank
For simplest root just use method 1 from 1st guide in my signature. No CF-Root, no CWM needed. Just copy one file to external SD card and update from stock recovery.
- Thanks for the contributions... - there's a lot to take in -
- This 'Bricking Bug' is something of a concern... - so I'll be doing some more reading before I choose whether to proceed with rooting my SGS2 -
- Hopefully things will be simpler with the Nexus 7... -
- Understanding the various versions, terminology & methods etc. is giving me something of a head-ache today -
- But thanks again... -

different basband?
Hello devs,
I ran into a problem few hours ago and I am trying to work my way around and through it. I honestly did, I have already lost patience and feel like quitting life itself. I wiped my phone, installed a different BOOTLOADER, different MODEM, different CODE and different CSC. I did all this to install a new ROM, I didn't like the changes so I went for my backup and restored it. Everything was successful, except that the Baseband version hasn't changed at all.
What is a baseband? Does it matter if I installed a different one (it is supposed to be XXLPS-I9100)?
Thanks
Baseband and modem are pretty much the same thing mate. You don't need to have a particular one. If you find your signal isn't as good as it should/used to be, you can change your baseband at a later stage. It doesn't matter if you stick to the one you have. It won't spring up at night and chop your phone into two bits

Hey i have a problem my samsung galaxy s2 is an indian version 4.0.4 and its baseband version is I9100 DDLPB so its ok to root it with another baseband verison?
Hi.
Is it possible to root using this method even though it is for stock ? The phone as the Orange (UK) branded firmware and locked to Orange obviously and is running the latest Android. Would it be possible to root if I went into the recovery mode and flashed it with PhilZ-cwm6–x.xx.x-signed.zip Even though the build number and kernel is this?
Kernel: 3.0.31-124097 [email protected] #3 SMP PREEMPT Tue Jun 4:15:49:20 KST 2013
Build: 3O54K.I9100PXXLSS
Android Version: 4.1.2
Also if this will work and not brick the phone what/where can I get the roms for this ?
Hi, I don't see a package that exactly matches your build (XXLSS) but from what PhilZ says in his OP, an XW package is interchangeable with an XX build.....so look for XWLSS and you're good to go. Choose the zip rather than the tar as the tar CANNOT be flashed in stock recovery. I've used PhilZ a couple of times on 2 different S2s without any issues. And in terms of what ROM to flash afterwards......the choice is yours....that's the whole idea of custom....try it and see, and if you don't like it, try something else. You have hybrid roms, aosp roms; aokp roms......allsorts.....
But please don't ask anybody to recommend a specific rom, that question is against XDA rules.
Just remember to read as much of the thread for your chosen rom as you can, and most importantly.....
FOLLOW EVERY STEP OF THE INSTRUCTIONS TO THE LETTER. They're there for a reason........
Search, read, learn, understand.....
And then and ONLY then....do it....
Remember that, and it'll all be good

Hi ,

the reason why m writing is that i just came from motorola defy section so the terms rooting ,cwm ,twrp , custom kernels , roms
is not new for me BUT this device gt i9100 is new to me and and its methods are slightly different for my previous device.
But i made my phone rooted via philz .zip method (flashing in stock recovery)
i installed clockword mode recovery from playstore and just took my nandroid backup from recovery.
Now here comes the difficlut part
my phones

i mean what are the necessary protocols to be done before flashing any roms or kernels..
He means sometimes the flashing instructions for a rom/kernel might vary a bit. In other words, follow the instructions/requirements for that particular rom/kernel; almost always on the first page of the thread devoted to that rom/kernel. Reading the first 10 pages/last 10-20 pages is a good idea which will give you a feel for the features of the rom/kernel & people's experiences with current/recent builds.
