Are you on MDK or ME7 build? You can't flash ROMs on ME7 yet, only root.

Are you making sure to check and compare the md5 from what you've downloaded to what the dev has for each ROM to make sure they did indeed download without any error?

Haha, fair enough. I figure it's always best to start with the easy questions, don't want to replace a motor when all you needed was an oil change, you know?
What recovery are you using? TWRP, or CWM, and have you tried flashing with another recovery other than the one your currently using?
I know it seems dumb, but sometimes some ROMs don't like to play nice with certain recoveries.

[Q] Flashing ROMs on VRALL4 ?

I OTA updated to vramc3 pretty much while rooted on accident.. Spent like 10 hours searching through forums and eventually found a way to fix it.. Anyway since i cant just use the stock vramc3 at present... I started looking for alternatives but can I flash like Beans Build 17 while having vrall4? Probably a stupid question but I don't know so.. Thanks in advance!
I don't see why not. The ROMs and modems are not linked per say.

Well.... I just tried flashing Beans Build 17 twice and both times i got a red message that said "Failed"
so either im forgetting a step somewhere or it just aint working xD
P.S. But at least its working at the moment.. I can live with that until I can update to VRAMC3 but im not sure how that's gonna work out...
Any information would be great but its 5 am... I aint slept yet so im gonna go ahead and do that haha
Yes you can flash ROMs and then you can flash the radio to update the baseband to the newest version.

I assume you are unlocked with twrp installed. If so update it using goomanager.

As long as u update twrp like kint said you can flash beans on the ll4 radios with no problem or just download updated radios and flash behind beans 17 doesn't matter what radios your on. But u should go into goo manager hit menu then click install recovery script to update twrp .

Oh jesus sorry im getting back to you guys so late... I've had one hell of a day.. but I tried flashing Beans Build 17 again after updating TWRP and it failed...
...I then saw Carbon ROM... thought it looked cool and gave it a try... it sure did flash but jesus something went completely awry with it... more than half the apps were force closing and i had to pull the battery multiple times before the phone would actually boot so i gave up on that then i went back and used odin to recover vraljb... phew.. at least i can fix most soft bricks now XD!

Make sure to check md5 sum after downloading the file. I've never had a problem with flashing any build of beans. When you try to flash it, does it even get to the aroma installer?

MJ7 Progress to Flashing

So we on MJ7 obviously at this point are stuck with barely gaining root and still not able to flash custom ROMs... So I'm making this thread for us to post up any leads or any questions we have on furthering our phones to be able to flash...
Any devs currently working on this would be helpful to chime in to let us know what's up and what you need for us to help...

Your telling me! I did a lil research and saw that there were ROMs for the s4 and I just got it the other day and coming from the s3 I was like this will be easy to root and flash again..... Pshhhh come to find out I bought an MJ7 so the rooting process was a pain in the @#$%& lol
So figured I'd start a place for us with this crappy problem to discuss stuffs lol

I will be watching this thread like a hawk.
I know the feeling....
I just recently bought a new S4 as well with MJ7 on it and I'm going crazy all over looking for a way to root and install a custom rom specially now that this one came out for us on the S4 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2524644 ufff!!! I will be watching over this!!!!
Admittedly I'm new to this, but from my research, can't you just flash an old kernel/version and then install whatever you want?
Wouldn't this method work? galaxys4root . com/galaxy-s4-root/how-to-root-verizon-galaxy-s4-sch-i545/
Basically put in ODIN mode and install an old image, then you can install the ROM you want, right?

Exactly.
If you are on a newer version of ROM, you cannot go back.
That is why, one should be very careful about taking an update.
Thanks for the info. Glad I didn't try that
When I got my device it was at least two versions back, so there's no way to factory reset my device to what I got when I first received my device?

It's relatively well documented that you cannot downgrade from MJ7. If I recall, it's not a hard brick. It's either a soft brick or the flash just fails.
I have faith that we'll have an answer to this soon. Devs never take long to find a workaround.

@Stolly08 what method did you use to Root? I'm still hesitant to try...had my VZ GS4 (running MJ7) for about 3 weeks now.
I'm basically trying to rid my device of bloatware (and praying to eventually flash custom ROMS whenever we all figure that out )
After having HTC phones for 5 years, all rooted, I said enough of the crappy battery life and decided to take the Samsung mainly because of the huge dev support and good battery life. Kinda bummed out we dont have root for MJ7 with unlocked boot loader but Im sure the Dev's are working hard to get it for us

hot spot option

Just received my note 3 from sprint with mj4, i then updated to NAB and on to NC5, but what i noticed is I dont have a hot spot option toggle in settings- connections, is this something new ?
Sprint has disabled it until you pay for the service. The flashable hot spot mod is deff the way to go. I don't even get LAN errors through Xbox live with 4G. Someone more helpful will chime in with a link soon.

[Q] Custom Recovery wont Load

I have an SCH-i545 and It was recently on NK1, I downgraded to NC5 and used towelroot. Did a factory wipe from the recovery, but now I cant get either TWRP or CWM to load? It only uses the stock samsung/verizon recovery, and this is not letting me flash any custom rom. Did I miss a step somewhere? I've got SuperSU installed aswell.

You can flash stock based Roms with safestrap still. You just can't flash a non stock kernel. Which means stock Roms only.
I ended up going with the cleaned stock nk1 and I'm digging it, once I get on my pc and can search better I'll go with eclipse perhaps. The Wi-Fi won't turn on though, gonna head over to that post and figure it out. =) thanks again

Custom recovery for rooted ZVA?

I'm rooted on ZVA and I'm wondering if there's a way to have a custom recovery without getting the security boot error and not being able to get back to stock ROM? Not sure if I'm ready to go to a custom ROM with the only way of returning to stock being LGflashtool.
You can have the stock rooted ZVA ROM downloaded and flash that after you flash the recovery but i would recommend to have it saved to an external sd card so it doesnt get deleted when you wipe your phone first thats why i like having a 64gb sd card for my phone
Ok, I had thought about that but really wanted to be able so use the original. Wish LG didn't make it so difficult now, makes me miss my Optimus G sometimes.

I'm not really sure if you can get custom recovery for ZVA.
If you look here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=55225699 it'll give you links to what you need.
Most of us go the ZV4 way, as that's what most things are based from.
Just download flashify from play store. Open it, click yes to give it root access, click recovery image, click download twrp...follow on-screen instructions. Easy peasy. Twrp on rooted ZVA.

Actually about to do it now, did you boot back into the stock ROM afterwards or go right to a custom ROM?

Worked like a charm, thanks! Booted into TWRP, made a backup, booted back into system, everything good. Hopefully it goes as smooth when going to a custom ROM.
