Well, here's my problem. I took a few important photos a couple of days ago but now, they are mysteriously missing from my gallery and phone memory. Instead, all I have in my DCIM folder, under thumbnails, is a 9.4MB file called .thumbdata3--1967290299. So, I am hoping that this file contains the images and that I can somehow extract the photos from this file. Is it possible? If so, how? Thanks.
Thumbnail files do not contain full pictures.

I know, but I only had about 4 photos on my phone and now they are gone. Considering the size of the .thumbnail3 file, I am guessing that it must contain some significant portion of my photos, no?
Also, just to be clear, this is not a thumbnail image file which I can view. This file is of an unknown format.
You can't do anything with it. It wont help you in any way. If you can't find them with a time manager in DCIM, look in LOST.DIR but if not, there's nothing you can do
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Oh yeah, silly me. In my panic, I completely forgot to look inside the LOST.DIR. I've found all my important photos there. Thanks!
No worries. I also seem to have invented a new category of android app.... time managers. Of coursevi meant file managers

So, trying to upload a picture to the forums via the mobile app. When the phone has no SD card or youre set to store pics on the phone it saves as PNG or something like that which wouldn't allow for upload. I had to change in esFile to JPEG. But, now that I have a SD card and am saving to it, ALL my pics have converted and continue to be saved as JPEG. Now uploads are no big deal.

Interesting. Kind of ironic since PNG files will be bigger than JPG.
While it may be useless for upload to XDA, PNG is a better format than JPG. Both use compression but PNG is lossless, JPG is lossy even on its lowest compression setting.
That is what i posted as a problem as well. But you fpund a solution. So wherr do i force the pics to the sd card. Problem here is i have always had an sd card installed.

In the camera settings i believe. Funny thing is though is that the pics i have on the internal memory also are JPEG now. That i dont know how it happened. But regardless it makes posting here that much easier and that's all that matters.... now if i coukd just figure out why those pics have to get "resized " when i send them as MMS....

tried what you did and still cant post a screen shot...its kind of annoying really. I actually was a able to before but all of a sudden i get the file extension error now!?
If using Tapatalk, just click "Tapatalk hosted". The pic will look much better anyway. Haven't used XDA app in a while, but I assume its the same, no?

What I'm seeing is DCIM\
then \001 and \002 and so on with pictures randomly set in each folder. I believe it has to do with the bursting. I.e. folder \004 contains the fourth picture in the photo burst that was saved.
My concern is, this is going to make syncing my camera folder to my picasa folder nearly impossible with so many sub directories. I sync via Photosync by Akira S. on the market and the app doesn't support subfolder syncing.
Work around anyone?
Sent from my EVO using XDA
On further testing, it seems that subfolders such as \007 keep being made and each image is being named image001. Ugh....

Apparently, that fixes it. Sucks that I have to sacrifice a feature for another. I suppose if I wanted to use the burst, then I could cut/paste the file into the 100media folder like it should be.

I was wondering if anyone knows the save location for final fantasy III? I have a saved game on my tablet and would love to be able to put it on my phone for when I don't have my tablet handy! Any help would be appreciated!
I don't have that game but based on common knowledge and the apps id in the play store start looking in
/data/data/com.square_enix.android_googleplay.FFIII_GP
Is your tablet rooted? If so maybe you can use titanium backup and copy the folder onto your phone then restore data

I was about to ask the same thing...
not rooted though.
shadowofdarkness is right, if you go to that folder there is a folder called files. In that folder is a file called save.bin. I just took the file from my galaxy tab and put it on my galaxy nexus, and it worked fine.

That folder doesn't exist.. hmm
What is OBB file? I see a huge file in there.. something like 170mb or so.. not sure if the save is included in that or not

He is not talking about /sdcard/Android/data/ folder he is talking about /data/data/ folder which is accessible from root. It is there I just checked myself.
The obb folder is the file downloads when you first buy the game. It has the pictures and music and everything. That folder is on the sdcard, the folder you are looking for is not on the sdcard, but on the phone's internal memory. You will see folders for all of the game/apps you have there.

The OBB file should not be concern of yours. I predict it's a file with games resources in a database.
Just use DataSync mate, works wonders for what you need

Could you post that? I am right after getting the ship and have managed to get myself stuck after riding around the place on a Chocobo. I found a glitched area and can't get out of it.
I think I did the same thing. I got stuck up in a waterfall earlier today on the chocobo and had to close the game and reload my save.

There is only one Application with which you can view the content of data folder already mentioned few messages before, and it's "Root Explorer" Application. You have to buy it, because I personally have tested lot of file managers and this one is the unique which do what you want whith simplicity. Hope that will help you.

I actually prefer Total Commander over Root Explorer for a few reasons, and it is also free. But either one will let you get into the /data directory to get at the save.

I just noticed that the DCIM \ .thumbnails folder on my internal SD card seems to be excessively large - about 1017MiB. The Camera folder itself only contains images totalling 81MiB.
Is this something to be expected, or can I safely delete the folder to (hopefully) clear some space?
Thanks,
Erik N

Ok, I've always wondered if that would ruin my smartphone or something.
I deleted it but i didn't reclaim any space. To be exact, right after i deleted it it looked like i reclaimed 2gb (the size of the .thumbnails folder) but next time i checked, after a restart, my free space was at the same level as before deleting it. I can't find the .thumbnails folder anywhere now... Any ideas?

The .thumbnails folder can be fount in storage/sdcard0/DCIM.
You need to be rooted to see the .thumbnails folder.
Thanks for the quick reply but it's not there either (i am rooted and I browsed the folder with root explorer).

My fix
I fixed this by deleting .thumbnails on my s4 and created a new .thumnails folder in DCIM folder, finally got rid of the nonsense.
So idk how many ppl are into hiphop but jay z and samsung collaborated and created the magna carta holy grail app. To give his new album out to the first 1mil samsung galaxy s3, s4 & note 2 users. I got the app and took my lunch at 12am. 3rd shift and it wouldnt load at all. Just kept doing the circle thing. I was wondering if anyone was actually able to download the album. None of my friends were able to either. It just did the same thing mine did.

Same thing happened to me. Says it's downloaded, but there isn't a trace of it on my device.
I even opened the Samsung Music Player, and nothing.
When I go back to the app to try and download each song it freezes, then force closes.
my players didn't recognize the files until I moved them and rebooted

Finally got it to download.
After numerous failed attempts I went to Application Manager > Downloaded > Jay Z Magna Carta
I then clicked on Clear Data & Clear Cache.
I re-opened the app and it allowed me to re-download the album.
In hopes of finding the files, they were still not present.
I then opened ES File Explorer and viewed all files and folder based on the date they were modified.
I erased the Music Folder, along with all folders within scard0/Android/data that were dated today and associated with Samsung in any way.
There was even a folder (can't remember the entire name), but it was in regards to docs and something about PIN files do no edit.
I erased that as well.
I then restarted the app, re-downloaded the album, and all of the files were added to sdcard0/Music
