Root Galaxy s4 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I'm having trouble rooting my galaxy s4. No I'm not on the update but I've tried to use both tools avaliable and neither work. I keep getting adb outdated or device not found. ..what can I do? I would prefer to flash through odin.

Have you enabled USB debugging in developers options?

Latest drivers installed? ADB working correctly?

You're using the CF-Autoroot method? It's the only one which is working if you've happened to update to MG1 by accident or anything.
Otherwise the Motochopper exploit should still be alright :/

You're thinking of a different model. There is no MG1 update for this one. The latest is ME7, which the OP has already stated they had not upgraded to.

I flashed md2 and have tried motochopper 50 times and protocol failure as well as running error and adb outdated

Got it to work when I used another computer.

Sounds like people have issues downgrading from MJ4 but if you're still on MI5 downgrade to the official MI3; Update to MJ4, root and TWRP again. (Anyone is welcome to correct me if I'm wrong...)
I'm still on MI5, being patient and cautious.
UPDATE: Similar thread only several posts down with info...
I think I might wait also. To many steps to screw up lol

Yes the rooting is the same and the link developweb gave you is the easiest instructions and it is how I rooted my I717r. However....
If after installing Recovery (cwm or twrp) and you reboot into recovery to install superuser you find out you still have stock recovery installed then you need to do an extra step. Depending on how your phone was updated there may be a script installed that restores the stock recovery. So after you install custom recovery remove your battery while it is rebooting. This will prevent the script from reinstalling stock recovery. Then boot into recovery yourself to install superuser.
Info about rooting the Canadian version is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1775263
I rooted my I717r with ICS installed. I installed ICS using odin and the script was not on my phone. I believe if your phone was updated via OTA then it got the script. I have no idea if this script is carried over into jellybean or not.
Thanks a lot everyone

I did the root process but win I try to go into cwm by pressing the power button combinations it goes into android system recovery and if I use a root checker it says I don't have root access

Nope you're good to accept it prior to rooting.

CFAutoroot will work on the latest firmware. I unrooted, updated through Kies, and rerooted just to be sure.

Out of curiosity, how did you unroot? I forgot to check for the OTA before I rooted and never got it.

Okay, I mistyped. You unroot through a factory restore via Kies, but the Knox counter is still tripped.
No, that's fine.... Just making sure of the proper way to unroot. I was pondering using the posted .tar file and using Odin, but wasn't sure if that was the best method.

I just flashed it this morning and did a restore. Was at stock and up to date before flashing. Using 2.7.0.0
I've been trying this method since TWRP went official on the S5 and it keeps telling me it's not supported. Same with GooManager and Flashify. I don't want to go the whole Odin route if these methods should work. I'm on Philz recovery but want to go to TWRP since I had that on my S3.
