Ok so i was getting my Nook ready to sell, because i dont use it. accidentally wiped the internal memorycard instead of my external one. now the tablet is in some strange brick status. it will boot off an SD card with CWM, but it wont access or flash any roms. it also refuses to restore using the repart.img SD card I made. it gives me a red X and shuts off. i tried to fix the partitions with parted, but it gives me a strange error and doesnt fix anything. Im running out of ideas. tried to made adam's ubuntu restore sd card but the nook refuses to do ANYTHING with that sd card inserted, it wont even turn on. Summary: boots to CWM SD card. turns on but hangs at N symbol. the end. it looks like it successfully flashed the stock recovery back thou so now i cant even get into adb. what can i try next? i know its not done for... but im about to throw it out the window. lol.
You might consider flashing flash_stock_1.4.2.zip at https://github.com/succulent/acclaim_recovery_sdcard.

it says my sd card is blank and it doesnt seem like its mounting.... i took it out and formatted it to fat32 and its still saying blank sd card i did this a bunch of times..
If you formatted it, it is blank. What's the problem?
What does it say in settings/SD & phone storage? Have you tried formatting it there?
tried both put it in comp formatted it put it in phone formatted in there too says mount sd card like its not reading it
and it also said the blank thing when i had stuff on my sd card
so i guess im effed cuase i cant put anything on my sd card phone wont read it so i cant get back to stock...
Try formatting it on your computer or phone, put it back into your comp and put some files on it

i did and i even tried a diff sd card wont read that either
I'm new to this so someone please correct me if I'm wrong but you can download the stock Rom from your phone and use Rom manager to go to stock, there is 2.5g of space on phone
my problem and worry is i wanna get unrooted so i can call and this will prob be covered under warranty and i wont have to pay the rediculous deductable on insurance if i have to go another root...
and also you cant use rom manager unless sd card is mounted i tried and mine doesnt mount
So you have tried multiple SD cards in your phone and none of them work?
yes i have tried a couple and the thing pops up in notification bar blank sd card and in sd and phone storage it says mount it but doesnt work
Well if you have tried more than one, formatted and all, and it still doesn't work I would say that your card slot has obviously stopped working. There is no way to unroot without access to the SD card AFAIK.
well that just sucks guess im gonna have to break this thing to make an insurance claim there goes 90 bucks downt he effn drain
Before you take your phone back to Verizon, try connecting to the phone with adb. If you can cd to the sd card and ls the contents, you can push the RUU to the card and return to stock. I am currently trying to resolve the same problem where the SD card fails to mount on PC and suspect it might be related to root. I might end up returning it to stock to test my hypothesis if I can't find a solution in a few minutes; I'll post back with my results.
Okay, this may or may not be relevant to the original poster, but after more investigation, it appears that this issue might be related to some corruption of system files related to handshaking with Windows in Drive mode that occurred since rooting the device. Restoring the rooted system image resolved the problem. The issue was unrelated to kernels, though, since flashing the default kernel did not improve anything.
If you can access the SD card with ADB, your best bet is to restore your rooted stock backup or re-flash the stock image to see if that corrects your issues prior to returning your phone.

If the phone can't read the SD card it doesn't matter what he can get on it, the phone has to be able to read the sd card to flash anything.
If you have the proper images, they can be flashed using fastboot, which doesn't require an SD card.
I am rooting my daughters Droid Eris. I used the app from the market and flashed Cyanogen 7. Everything went well until I tried to start restoring her apps and found that the phone is saying there is no sd card. When I go into setting to mount it it is greyed out and wont do anything. the gallery and rom manager also say there is no sd card. the card I am using is not partitioned. I tried taking a partitioned sd out of my old Cliq and putting it in and then it says it has a unsupported system or something like that but I did notice that the mount sd in settings was no longer greyed out. If I reboot into recovery it will recognize the card because it lists what is on it. I have searched everything I can find and cant find any answers. Oh, also, when I plug in the usb to the computer it does nothing then either. Any Ideas??
Go into recovery since her phone can read the card from there and reformat the card. You may also want to wipe data and dalvik and reflash the rom to be on the safe side.
Make sure that you backup anything currently on the SD card before formatting it, which you can do from the usb-ms toggle option in recovery. You will need to copy the rom file back to the phone after formatting the card which can be done from this option as well.
There should be an android.secured folder on the SD card. Delete that. You don't want it on there so make sure you don't copy it back to the card (it will come back after the first boot and it can then be left alone, I like to delete mine before each flash though to avoid possible problems.)
EDIT - DONT FORGET TO FLASH GAPPS RIGHT AFTER FLASH THE ROM! ALL CM7 ROMS REQUIRE THIS!
Let me know if you have any problems
Sent from my GSB Eris
Totally of the topic BUT I'm Selling a fully rooted Droid Eris running CM7 port ROM for $90...interested PM me.
Hey so I've been trying to find a solution to this problem for a while now and I can't seem to find anything to fix it.
So I went to format my SD card through my phone (I am running Liquid's ICS rom atm). I went into settings > storage > erase sd card, and followed through on everything. After I accepted that my stuff would be lost I got a notification saying the SD Card is safe to remove, and in storage it gives me the option to Mount the SD Card.
However, when I press mount it acts like it is mounting for like half a second then quickly just says it is safe to remove and the mount button is clickable again. No matter how many times I click it, it will just do the same thing.
I tried booting into recovery and mounting it through there and formatting it and other nonsense and it just says error mounting sd card.
I have also taken out my battery and sd card and left it for like 10 minutes and tried again. Still nothing.
The only thing I haven't tried doing yet is putting it into a computer to manually format it that way, but I don't have a device to be able to do that at the moment so I am looking for a way to solve this without having to drive 23 miles to the nearest electronics store to fix this.
I don't think my SD card is corrupt, I mean it was working perfectly (it is a 32gb card from Verizon when I got the TB) and it just started doing this after I tried to format it through the ROM.
Any ideas?
EDIT:
HEY! So holy **** I had a little bit of a moment there. Anyway, I solved the problem on my own. So what I did was boot into recovery, and partition the SD Card under the Advance option. I just did the first setting for each so my operation was like this: Recovery > Advance > Partition SD Card > (Power button for whatever the first option was until it started partitioning).
After that I tried mounting the SD card and it didn't give me an error. So I went into the recovery settings to format the sd card (still in CWM recovery) and after it formatted I booted up and sure enough to worked!
So this thread can be deleted or locked or whatever. Other people may run into this problem and this worked for me so yea.
Thanks for the thread space lol
Have you tried 4ext Recovery?
Awesome newb video by the way! Made me laugh...
Just rooted and I like it, I don't wanna go back, but I can't get the microsd to pick up...I'll give all the info I can--def newb to root/droid but my background is IT, so hopefully we can figure out how to fix it so I can keep the root and not go back to stock(if that would even repair the problem)
Got a pny 32G microSD, droid incredible 4g lte(Verizon) that I rooted using the unlock script and fakeCID and then loaded Vipers Venom LTE custom rom...somewhere in this process-I think right after unlocking-it quit accessing the sd card...I've looked around and read some things about this 'USB brick' thing, but I don't know if it's applicable to me...here's what it does now:
SD card is in phone, but under 'Storage' Total Space and Available show unavailable, and everything else is greyed. If I try and pull the card the phone gives me the 'sd card unexpectedly removed' error.
Windows XP has no issue reading/writing to this card with a card reader. I've formatted a few times fat32 with xp(which i hate doing)and put it back in the phone, with the phone off, booted, and nothing happens. Oddly, when it first happened, after installing the custom ROM, when I'd do this procedure the phone would see the card on boot, but stay forever on 'preparing sd card/checking for errors' and never complete.
Back on the phone side of things, booting into the 'recovery mode', where you flash and whatever, it can see the card, see it's contents, and I wrote some sort of log to the card(option in the menu), so it can access it...oddly, I could not load my Viper rom from the microsd card, it failed on the file, but put it under some folder on the phone and that's how i ended up flashing the ROM, which I was nervous about doing as everything I saw said put the rom on the external sd card...
If I plug the phone into the XP pc via usb cable, choose use as disk drive, no problem accessing phone data, but 'please insert disk' on the card. Cannot push data when in usb debug mode via adb commands either. Oddly, dunno if this is related, it gives me 2 drives and also a CD ROM drive--tried dialing that##7 number for the option to disable cd rom, but it was already disabled. Dunno if this is related, but throwing it in there.
Tried chkdsk on the sd card with Xp, no errors, no problems. Hell, the card's not two weeks old and I've only had the phone a little over a month. I've done a bit of research the past couple of days and the only thing I haven't tried is the very confusing procedure i've seen for some of these 'usb brick' problems, but is that my problem. I'm hoping if all else fails i can go back to stock, just downloaded the stock rom, but will that even fix it? Gots to have my trailer park boys on my sd card to watch! Thanks for the help guys and gals! Sorry for the long post, but I like to give info--if kernel version or any other data like that is required, I can post it.

i tried to slim down your quote, but from my experience i'd still say the sd-card is somehow busted! i had a similar prob with the SD card in my Dinc4G two weeks ago. i _was_ r/w quite fine even from custom rom and at one point, the card just quit. removing and reinserting just ended in "preparing sd-card" and directly after that "safe for removal" ... wasn't able to access it any more within Viper, recovery (TWRP for me) was still seeing the card fine just like on your end.
putting the SD-card into a Win-laptop it _appeared_ fine and came error-free with scandisk etc ... BUT when i tried to backup all data from it before formatting (had like 10G on my 16G card) there were a couple of files that failed to read and i could NOT recover at all anymore. I formatted the SD-card again after that (full format, not fast/quick!) ... and put most of the files back. it is working again now in my Dinc4G but the card sure has some defect sectors (and usually _tends to die soon_ after such errors appear first!
i'd heavily recommend that you try to source some other micro-sd card first and try if you custom rom can read from it again. if that works fine and you see your SD-card from within the settings menu in the rom. you can be pretty sure that it's really the card.
PS: even brand new mem cards tend to fail at times :cyclops: ... just try to erase all private data on it (means: _fully overwrite_ with other stuff until the card is completelly filled) ... and then try to get a replacement from where you got your (fairly new) SD card from.
hope that helps a bit
i agree with the above post... try a different card. if formatting it doesn't fix it, it's time to try a new card.

Thank you for the help, I resolved this issue, as it is the card, but now I have a different issue, unfortunately...
I have a Nook Tablet 8GB that wont boot, just hangs on the 'N' logo.
I have been going though every suggested nook tablet "bricked" and "dead" forum post i can find. most are for the 16gb model.
I can get the CWM_NT to boot from external SD card, but it hangs at the "tapped box" logo.
I can get the cyan boot loader to work, and i try to load CWM "recovery.img" and the TWRP "altboot.img" from SD card, and they seem to load, but the screen gets all pixel filled and hangs, wont boot into any recovery from the SD card.
I was unable to get ADB to load in windows, and im not sure how to get that working in ubuntu.
Im looking for help to get the stock nook software working on the internal SD. I may need to reformat the internal partitions, and im willing to try everything.
anyone who can help me, and any questions i can answer for you please let me know i could really use your help.

You can use this to get back to stock:
http://raywaldo.com/2012/06/how-to-un-brick-a-nook-tablet-8gb-or-16gb/
I suggest using an SDC boot instead of internal ROM, especially if you don't know what you're doing.
Head over to goo.im for succulent builds. Download the SDC image for cm10. Once you flash use whatever SDC ROM you want.
Thanks for the fast reply, i have tried that method, and the parted fix it recommends. but i cant seem to get ether to work. I flash my sd card with the repart.img and boot my nook tablet 8gb, but it wont do anything. i leave it alone for 20-30 minutes on a the N logo, that software install message never shows up.
i have android sdk installed, and try to adb push parted command as well, and it fails with device not found. i have the nook showing up as "acclaim" in device manager.
still bricked.

@jbrennan: as @datallboy suggested you should try to burn and run Succulent CM10.0 image (cm-10-20121231-NOOKTABLET-acclaim-HD-SDC-img posted at http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2012/11/18/cm10-0-jellybean-sdcard-img-for-nook-tablet/) off SD card. If that does not boot successfully your NT is likely hosed hardware-wise, but if it does you can try the next step of recovering internal ROM.
Thanks again for the fast replies.
I can get the nook tablet 8GB to boot the SD card, and when i let it "boot" SDC normal, or pick recovery SDC, i get a screen that hangs like this picture i took attached.
is it hosed? or fixable?

That might be hardware related. The older versions of cyanoboot make a similar screen when booting anything. It only happens for a second then boots into the ROM or recovery.
It might not be able to boot into anything is all. So if it is hardware related I can't help much.
Could it be the partition table? i read that if that's damaged nothing will boot. is there a way to fix the partition table if SD card wont boot recovery?

Well if your boot data partition is damaged then it might not boot. Adam outlet total reflash might have helped it, but for some reason it only works on 16 GB tablet.
I don't know of any ways you could essentially rebuild your boot data partition. Maybe another me member might be able to help though.
