What is your favorite software for ripping your DVD's & putting movies on your GS4? I've used handbrake, got something better? I usually just use Netflix, but sometimes I have a long wait for an appointment & will watch DVD's that I've just bought (new releases).
DVDFab. Rip to mp4.

+1 for Magic DVD Ripper. I rip them as AVIs, and use MX Player, to view them.
^ same.
Freemake video converter or DVDFab
Personally I use Freemake Video Converter... Have always had the best results that way.
I use Cucu Soft DVD ripper. Also have YouTube ripper and file converter from them.
Don't use any ripping. Just download mp4, mkv, and avi movies and put 'em straight on my SD Card. MX Player FTW.
I rip with Fairmount and Encode with Handbrake and Metadata with Meta- software
DVD Catalyst -> http://tools4movies.com/
Does the best job converting movies for my GS4, GS3, Z10, Thunderbolt, Xoom, iPads, Playbook, and other mobile devices.

MX Player. Watched Fast 6 like that.
I'm using Magic DVD Ripper.
Why not just use showbox? Or even xbmc with a 1channel zip file. I got both on my s4.

Im not having that luck, MP4 is not supported on my phone
Files that won't play for me seem to be more of an audio issue than video. I think it's the audio codecs that were preventing playback, still got a lot of testing to do on this front. I sometimes have a video start playing fine and after 3s a "vidoe player cannot play this file" pops up.
Don't know what you're talking about? I just converted a movie to MP4 format just the other night, and it plays just fine on my phone. You've gotta be doing something wrong?
My phone plays everything I've slapped on my sdcard... Mp4s exp... And its beautiful...

Mpeg4 wordplay for me, but it's video only. Absolutely no audio.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
it was probably an mp4 using AAC audio instead of AC3. I discovered this when I found the built in video player wouldn't play audio on some of my MKV files that Rockplayer would.
Yeah, I've been extremely impressed with video playback. I think there is an app called rockplayer you may want to try (though the format you mentioned seems to work for most)

You need to find a dvd converter that will make it into an mp4 format then connect your phone to your computer and move the file to your phone
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Torrent some files and them just drag and drop them to your external sd on your phone
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Search for Handbrake. Its free and it will do it just fine.
I play Xvid, Dvix, Mp4, M4v on mine all the time.
Find a dvd copier and rip the disk to you're computer. Then download a free program called format factory (can change the file type and quality very easily) pick a file type and format (.3gp, .mp4, .avi, .flv, .wmv, work on the vibrant)
Sent from my futuristic phone
Download a program on your computer called Vuze. The updated version allows you to convert downloaded movies right into Vibrant compatible format.
rockplayer will play just about any format as well
My 2 cents are on format factory

I want to say that there is a windows program called "Granny Smiths" that will allow your dvds to be converted by hand brake. I was having the same problem a while back. I was able to use hand brake on my "King of Queens" dvds after using G Smiths. Or... Haven't got to test it yet but you can go to frostwires site and pick up an android app. Got it a couple of days ago for free
Should be able to go to www.cnet/downloads for that first one.

Hey I use realplayer converter for all my movies. I haven't had any problems using it.
Your Vibrant can play DVD's, just jam a disc into the microUSB port and it should begin playing.

Mobo Player
Second that, free, stable and feature rich
mVideoPlayer. Never failed me.
Hi there, I think I might try out these recommended video players. But before I do, I wondered if anyone could let me know why the videos I'm copying across to the phone (divx AVI episodes of TV shows downloaded via BitTorrent) don't stretch to the full size of the screen?
I have tried RockPlayer and yxplayer and what appears to be the standard 'video player'. yxplayer doesn't appear to do anything (or can't play divx AVI files), the other two play it in the centre of the screen with heaps of space around the sides.
When I play the same files on my TV through my PVR, they stretch to fit my TV screen dimensions and look really sharp. Was hoping the same would occur on the phone, so I would have something to watch on tomorrow's interstate flight.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also try qqplayer which can actually play a 1080p mkv file. though it will run very slow it still tries at least unlike most players!
Anyone know of any player that can fill the screen WITHOUT stretching the picture (in other words, it zooms in to fill the screen). I had that on windows mobile but have never found an Android player that does this.

Try taking a look at arcMedia.
Mobo Player.
I prefer mVideoplayer because it will display the folders that I have my videos in. I have over a 100 tv episodes for 7 to 8 different shows and not having them organized by folder drives me crazy.

I've tried about 5 video players and none work. What program can I use to convert these so they will work with the video player? Will handbrake work? If so, what settings?

Do some searching - I've got a Handbrake preset that works well for the GS2 somewhere in here or General

How are these files encoded? What ROM are you using? What happens when they "don't work?"
I've yet to come across an AVI file that the stock Video player didn't play perfectly, something doesn't sound right here.

I always use Handbrake to encode videos/movies (H.264). I use the Apple TV2 setting in Handbrake. If the movie had a good soundtrack, I'll keep the unaltered dolby digital (AC3) "track" along with the two channel Dolby PLII AAC audio. Less exciting movies just get the AAC two channel audio. A feature length movie will be roughly 1GB. I store them on a media server for TV watching and load a few on my phone too. You could always go lower resolution/higher compression if you wanted a phone only version.
The ATV2 setting works great on
1. ATV2
2. PS3
3. GSII with Mobo player
The stock player on my phone had some problems with the videos (the ones with AC3 streams if I remember right). Mobo plays everything I throw at it. Free.
For the computer, VLC is an awesome video player.

Yup, that's the preset.
You MAY likely be able to enable some features that improve quality/compression - the preset there is guaranteed but may not be optimal.
Enabling 8x8 transform and CABAC seems OK on my Galaxy Player, so should be OK on the SGSII.
At some pointas you start enabling extra compression features, I haven't figured out which setting it is yet, one setting will cause audio to lag by a half second or so.
