[Q] gps dual caleders & custom roms - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I have paranoid 3.1 now. GPS just basically never works now. Is there a ROM that GPS works consistently?
I need to keep 2 different calendars updating on my phone, both of which are Google calendars. Seems like JB 4.2.2 doesn't them update independently anymore. 4.1 did digical & aCalendar. Any ideas as to what combo of calendar programs will work?

AOSP-wise GPS is a problem for a lot of people. Try a TW-rom, specifically something on a VZW base like Beans or Multi. Or search for one of the hundred million GPS fixes to see if any do the trick. Don't know about the calendars.

I've tried a few of the GPS fixes but can't even get a fix on a satellite. If I get more consensus on TW based ROM i 'all try that. Going to be in an areaiI have never been before next week so I must have GPS working

Well a VZW-based TW rom would be as close a guarantee on GPS as you can get. GPS is so weird on our models, every ROM seems to be hit and miss for people.
MeanBean ICE (which is actually on a N7105 or international base) and Beans seem to have the most amount of people with GPS locks. Try out any of the TW roms and see what you like, my experience has always been that once I get that first GPS lock that takes awhile, it connects pretty instantaneously.
If you're looking for a TW rom that has AOSP looks (let's be honest TW is ugly) try Beans (already AOSP themed), Tweaked or CleanROM (with the AOSP theme in the Themes/Apps section), or Alliance (optional AOSP theme in OP or built-in with novella patch).

[Q] Google dialer & Gallery

Hi Everyone,
I am on Omega rom and it's pretty nice. But, like every Samsung based rom, there are some things that bother me, the main thing is the lag when opening the dialer and the gallery. It can take sometimes up to 3 seconds for these apps to open when they haven't be launched in a while. Since the CM10 based rom still have some bugs which are crucial to me (no wifi & bluetooth tethering), I am sticking with the Samsung based roms.
My questions are:
1. Is there a way to flash the original AOSP dialer and gallery?
if there isn't,
2. Is there a way to prevent the dialer & gallery from closing?
Thanks a lot, I really hope someone can offer some good advice here.

i dont know the answers to your 2 questions.. but bluetooth tethering does work on CM10 based roms. wifi tethering is broken but wifi itself works just fine.
Yeah, I just saw that BT tethering is finally working, but wifi tethering is still broken... and I use that pretty often...

[Q] ASOP Dialer with working Bluetooth Calling/Voice?

I have one main problem with my Rezound: I can't stand the Sense dialer/contacts/sms setup. I love the ASOP dialer/contacts setup. I've been trying several different ASOP ROMs but it seems like all the ASOP ROMs have a problem with Bluetooth calling/voice. The Sense ROMs have working Bluetooth but they all have the Sense dialer.
I've also tried all the dialer replacement apps that I can find in the Play Store but nothing is as clean and simple is the ASOP dialer.
Anyone have any idea how I can get the ASOP dialer and working Bluetooth calling/voice on my Rezound?

Our few aosp devs are all working on jb right now. But I'm sure at least a few are still trying to resolve the bluetooth issue, but progress seems slow. It will probably be the main focus once all the major bugs are worked out of jb

LiquidSmooth v3.0 Beta

I'm running LiquidSmooth v3.0 Beta (LS-KK-v3.0-2014-02-13-dlx) on my Verizon DNA and I'm pretty happy with it. Big thanks to deadman96385, santod040, and anyone else who contributed to this project!
This is the first custom ROM I've run as a "daily driver" on my DNA after ~16 months on the stock ROM, so most of my impressions are in comparison with the most recent stock HTC software. I briefly tried CyanFox but switched back to stock. I also tried the "HTC One *STOCK* ROM Port" (DLX_WL_K442_SENSE55_MR_4.19.401.8) but couldn't get it to boot; actually flashing it messed up my recovery as well. I suspect maybe my download was corrupted since other people reported success with that ROM.
Back to LiquidSmooth:
- Perceived performance is generally pretty solid. It's mostly very smooth, living up to its name.
- I do get the occasional app crash (FC); haven't noticed a pattern yet. It's not frequent enough to bother me much.
- A few times I have had the phone become unresponsive when opening the recent apps view or when trying to unlock from the lock screen. But this hasn't happened in a few days. Could be the freezing was related to one of the features I tried and later disabled (see below), or just due to the ROM "settling in" (populating caches, etc.)
- Love KitKat and the add-on features:
- I'm using the "pie control" for quick access to apps, quick screen off, menu access, etc.
- I tried HALO and couldn't really figure it out / didn't find it useful.
- I like the idea of Active Display but it didn't work that well in combination with the way I use the lock screen, so I turned it off and use the lock screen's built-in active display features instead.
- I'm using the default Google Now launcher for the moment. I like the easy access to voice search and google now. Don't like that it doesn't have multi-touch for dragging icons between home screens.
I think the battery is draining faster than with the stock ROM, though it's hard to say because I've also been using the phone a lot more actively while I get it set up and configured the way I want. It may be that the active display feature of the lockscreen is using more power?
People in the development forum mention an over-the-air (OTA) update mechanism; I haven't been able to find that yet.
There's a new version posted called 03-05-14; I haven't tried that version yet.
Anyway, I'm quite happy with this ROM and imagine I'll stick with it for a while. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a clean, fast, stable ROM, and in particular to anyone freshly rooted and looking for a solid ROM to try out KitKat and get a lot of great new features.
(note—maybe it would have made more sense to put this directly in the existing LiquidSmooth development thread, but I don't have permission to post there. And I'm not developing the ROM, just using it.)
Thanks again! Great ROM.
How much did they pay you? LOL
I tried it as well as all of the other KK AOSP ROMS. I really like AOSP.
I was on stock until viperDNA 2.0 came out, then I decided to S=OFF/ROOT/etc... and plugged Viperware in. It was awesome. Not an issue ever. So I wanted to give 3.0 a try, after trying every ROM out there (actually it kinda became like crack to me LOL).
So far after several days, it's 5x5, not an issue at all. On my phone, only the Viperware works as advertised.
That's not to say that Viperware doesn't have its issues, but I just haven't seen any yet. As I said I really like AOSP, but because Viperware uses Aroma installer, I can delete almost everything - which gives it a kind of AOSPishy look/feel.
My sig hits it; these developers (ALL of them) are amazing and do all of this for US on their own time for FREE. If I were a kagillionaire, I'd employ you ALL.
Hah! Thanks Yehuda. I started this thread because I wish there were more ROM reviews here on xda, since I don't really have time to try out every ROM. I appreciate your review of ViperDNA; maybe I'll try that next.
Update on LiquidSmooth: after a week or so I found that it wasn't as clean as I originally thought and went back to (rooted) stock for a while.

[Q] Help with choosing a DNA ROM (KitKat?)

I'm needing help/looking for recommendations for a new DNA ROM. I usually have the worst luck in choosing ROMs so I thought to ask the community which one(s) that are available at this time that you use and would recommend.
A month or two ago I switched from a 4.2.2 rom to Blackout's "HTC One *STOCK* ROM Port | 4.19.401.8 | 4.4.2 | HTC Sense 5.5" ROM. Although I loved the new features and their work (very much at that, thank you all!).. but with the ROM itself I found the battery life to be pretty bad, especially compared to my previous 4.2.2 ROM and Blackout's also doesn't always connect well to some WiFi hotspots. My old 4.2.2 rom was really great on battery, was fast, stable and connected well to all WiFi connections.
Basically I'm yearning for a newer DNA ROM, maybe KitKat, doesn't have to be though...
My absolute must haves are below:
Very Stable - If it's not stable all the time I'd rather pass for a different ROM. It has to almost never crash with normal usage for it to be a daily for me.
Great Battery Life - A ROM with great battery life. Since the DNA as it is has bad battery life to begin with a battery efficient ROM would be a must.
Fast - I'd like it to be fast in transitions and loading software as best as possible - I'll trade in many cases newer features for speed almost any day.
No Bugs For Common Tasks - WiFi, Bluetooth, Speaker, etc - it all should work as expected and flawlessly.
Nice to haves list, but not necessary, are below:
Latest Android/KitKat - Would be nice to have KitKat, 4.4 but doesn't have to be.
Latest Sense/5.5 - I don't use Sense a whole lot but wouldn't mind the latest.
Improved Camera - again would be nice but not needed.
So basically... any recommendations for a new DNA ROM(s) would be _greatly_ appreciated. I can spend days trying out ROMs with little to show for it and would love to hear your thoughts/recommendations. Even if it's not the latest, if it's a solid, stable fast and super reliable ROM with great battery life please share I'd love to hear it.
Thanks!!
Try ViperDNA. Current version is 3.1.0 (4.4 KK based off the Sense 5.5 from HTC One). It is as stable as it gets for KK, all KK roms have VOIP issues, so if you need that, stick to 4.2.2 which ViperDNA 2.5.2 is based off of (recent DNA OTA).
Why choose Viper for a Rom? It has a boat load of desense options. (AOSP launcher, AOSP lock screen, etc) Viper roms also have some really nice themes also.
Viper ROMs also get pretty decent battery life.

I agree viper rom is by far the most customizable rom when it comes to sense roms and it is very stable. I'm still running 3.0.1 but 3.1.0 is out. There have been some bugs in that version that are being worked on. So I'm waiting until it's fixed. Rom is as stable as it gets though. Highly recommend it when it comes to sense roms.

Great, thanks for the info. Just to clarify: you're running 3.0.1 which is viperDNA_3.0.0_release_candidate.zip released Feb 15, 2014 () plus the VIPERdna_ota_3.0.0_3.0.1.zip from Feb 24, correct? It's Android 4.4 and it doesn't have the SMS bugs people are dealing with in ViperDNA 3.1.1?
I'm also looking for a stable, no-glitch ROM, preferably 4.4. I think I'll try ViperDNA 3.0.1 based on your recommendation. Thanks! =)
For others reading this thread: I had trouble finding 3.0.1, but eventually found it under "previous releases" in the thread "(3.19.14) Team Venom Presents ViperDNA v3.1.1" here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2648446 Download link is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/?id=2910#downloads

I downloaded 3.1.0 and the OTA 3.1.1 zip update. I formatted my phone with TWRP, "adb push"ed the two zip files to my phone. Installed 3.1.0 then after that I installed the 3.1.1 OTA update.
It's really interesting you mentioned the SMS issue... I've noticed that when I send SMS messages it will repeat them on my phone (but I'm told the recipients only get one of them). If this is the SMS issue you're referring to then I can confirm with 3.1.0 w/ 3.1.1 OTA zip that I'm getting that.
The other issue I have is some Google processes will unexpectedly stop running... for example if I'm using Google Search or Google Now sometimes it'll unexpectedly quit and crash.
Thank you for linking and explaining how to get 3.0.1... I think I'll go ahead and flash that instead.

I think so; that sounds like what people were describing in the ViperDNA thread. I haven't tried 3.1.0 or later yet, because of the reports of double SMS. As of yesterday there's a ViperDNA 3.5.0. Although the release notes don't say anything about fixing the double SMS, I'm going to watch the discussion for a few days and see whether it gets brought up or not.

So I've now been running 3.0.1 for a day or two and I'm mostly very happy with it. The one caveat is a bug with the camera: if you turn the screen off (or the screen times out) while the camera is open, the screen won't turn back on. I saw a posting saying that a workaround is to plug into power before pressing any buttons, but I found a better workaround: switch to the AOSP lock screen (instead of the default Sense lock screen) and the camera bug goes away. I do miss the quick-launch buttons from the Sense lock screen but my phone is responsive enough with this ROM that I'm OK with that for now. To switch lock screens, go into the Viper Tweaks application, then go to Lock Screen section, and there's a toggle to switch to the AOSP lock screen; you then have to reboot the phone for the change to take effect.
ViperDNA 3.5 isbelieve out
An update -
Viper 3.5 has been released - it supposedly fixes the multiple text message bug (one that I was receiving)... And others are reporting a bug with Bluetooth headsets - in that when music/video/media etc work really well but is jumbled when making phone calls. (*NOTE - I'm not sure on this next part...) I believe I read that the Bluetooth phone issue is rleated to 4.4.2 KitKat , and that it won't be fixed until HTC releases source for the DNA and 4.4.2.
One "big bug" I had with 3.5 was related to GSM ... there is a big issue with APNs, SIMs and ViperDNA 3.5. This is just an FYI based on my flashing experience.
I'm going to try 3.0.1 like others here and see how that goes - I am hoping all I get (if any!) is the camera issue mentinoed above.

there should be no difference in bluetooth from 3.0.0 up to 3.5.0, its all the same files, phone calls work the same regardless of version for me....but everyones devices are different and we are talking about a rom port
the camera issue/bug with screen off was resolved as of 3.1.0 as well

Yes, Viper is a sense-based ROM. That means it has all the sense libraries and applications. The default lock screen is the sense lock screen, the default launcher is the sense launcher, and the sense mail app, widgets, calendar, etc. are all there too. Other ROMs which are based on Cyanogenmod or AOSP cannot run sense applications because they lack the libraries (and maybe other stuff? kernel support?) needed to run sense.

Great, thanks! Sounds like 3.5 is a winner. I'll update when I get a chance. Very much appreciate all your hard work on this ROM; I'm quite happy with it.
One thing I haven't been able to figure out yet is where to configure the launch shortcuts for the AOSP lockscreen. The ability to configure shortcuts goes away when I toggle from the sense lockscreen to AOSP, but the AOSP lockscreen has 8 slots around the circle for apps to launch, they're just mostly empty. Perhaps that's fixed in 3.5 too?
The best way to find the best DNA KitKat Rom would be to download and be a flashaholic. That's what I have done here so far and honestly I'm stuck between santod040 and nitsuj17 Rom.! They both give me the performance I'm looking for and I never have issues with either of there roms. And when I do I see others metioning the same thing and within a day or two it's usually fixed by them. But that's my point of view. Only you can choose the Rom you like.

AOSP 4.4.2 ROMs GPS problems

GPS doesn't work on any KitKat ROMs that I've flashed, but works fine on 4.3 stock, viper, Y18 and sense 5.5.
I feel like I must be the only one who had this issue because nobody else seems to be complaining about it.
At the same time it seems like since I've had this problem on every single one of the 15+ KitKat ROMs, that its got to be happening to others too.
Ideas?

Seemed to be a fairly common issue with AOSP. Make a backup of your current setup. Flash back to a Sense ROM, turn GPS on and get a good lock. Once you've done this, leave GPS on and restore your AOSP ROM. Furthermore, you can also use an app like GPS Status to clear your A-GPS data. See if any of that helps. I haven't used any AOSP ROM's on the new partition setup but the fix I listed seemed to have worked for quite a few folks on the old setup running various AOSP ROM's.

YUP! Whenever I get a complaint about GPS on any AOSP roms I suggest the Sense Lock trick. It will work for some time afterward but sooner or later you will need to do it again. I can confirm this works on the new partition format AOSP roms. At least the ones I work on.
