I have seen battery calibration Apps.in the play store that claim they should be run after you ROM your phone. They claim there is possibly that there might be bad information in the batterystats.bin file.
If this is true, I have three batteries for my phone. Should I run this app for all three batteries. Does the phone track each battery separately?
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
No. It does not track batteries. Wiping battery stats is a huge controversy. Some believe it, some don't and even Google has shed light on the subject. It supposedly wipes the battery stats to give you a more accurate report of battery levels. It seems to help for me and I do it after every flash. It seems like the percentage drops at a more gradual and steady rate versus some quick drops occasionally. But if you think about it, it really can't make a difference since every time you charge your phone and unplug it, the contents in the batterystats.bin file is reset. You can see for yourself by navigating to data>system>batterystats.bin with a root Explorer and viewing it as text. Towards the bottom you'll notice a bunch of your apps names that you have been using that it tracks.
It's your call on Wiping after flashing. I figure why not. Not like it will hurt anything

There is no benefit to wiping battery stats or using a snake oil app to do it. This isn't even a matter of opinion- it had been established as a matter of fact over s year and a half ago when Ms. Dianne Hackborn clearly and concisely debunked the wives' tale. Her Google Plus page is the definitive readon the subject.
You may also want to check out www.batteryuniversity.com for fact based info on calibrating your phone's battery.

i'd think the only thing that needs wiping would be your battery monitor stats. if it gets wonky then it could report amount of time left incorrectly. and obviously that time left is just an estimate and not a hard number.
Thanks
Thanks to all for their responses.

No clue - you didn't post your battery usage list.
I've covered the drain-hunting process in other threads repeatedly at this point such as the known battery drainers thread... Might want to do some reading.
I've read through your posts and disabled a lot of stuff. My main concern is that cliff on the first picture. Why would my battery drop so far so fast.

Fuel gauge might have glitched or reset... I've seen it happen occasionally.
I'd be more worried if actual battery voltage dropped significantly there.

It would be helpful if you elaborate your Note's set-up. Such as like what ROM is being used, brightness level, LTE/no LTE, etc...
My Note currently has no issue lasting a full work-day with LTE on the whole time. And this is with moderate usage. (No videos, and minimal music)
I'm satisfied with mine... Just keep a charger near by.

There are only a few reasons why you see your battery life as terrible.
1) You are coming from an iPhone. But now you're using a tool of a phone, not a toy, so your battery life will be lower.
2) You are coming from the Droid RAZR MAXX, which is the only android with a bigger battery.
3) You have a rogue app that you didn't use before that is draining your battery life.
4) You are using excessive amounts of LTE data, and you came from a phone without LTE.
If those apply to you, there's your answer. If they don't, you may just have a bad device or battery.
You really need to be more specific when stating something as subjective as battery life is terrible. May I suggest you post screenshots of your battery stats so that you can give some insight to why your battery life is terrible. Coming on these forums and ranting without evidence won't get you very far.

Pretty much every device is unique, even though they are produced and assembled in identical fashion. It's possible for a device to have faulty software or internal hardware from the factory that could drain battery, and it's also possible for it to be shipped with a faulty battery. It's not a common issue, but also not unheard of. If nothing in his usage of the device is out of the ordinary, then it's possible he received a faulty device or battery, and should exchange it.

Install cpu spy and make sure you are going to deep sleep. For weeks I couldn't make it through the day and once I realized that the phone wasn't sleeping I found the app that was causing it and deleted it. I get great battery now but still reboot every morning because my original charging cable was lost so my phone will not sleep until I reboot.

I would say battery life can be defined by screen on time only.

Compared to what???
If you are trying to compare your Note to Apple itoy that is like trying to compare pink tricycle with pink tassels to a Corvette ZR1. No comparison at all, definitely more than apples and oranges. Having owed, well still own till I sell it, Dell Streak only other 5 inch screen out there. Agree it is still not apples to apples (or vette to vette), but Shelby Mustang to ZR1 and can say the battery performance is about the same. I upgraded my Steak to a 2400 mAh battery and had all services on and OC'ed to 1.9 ghz, yes I know single core, standard definition resolution, etc, but as close as you can get in 5 inch screen world. So far the 2500 mAh and stock ROM, with everything on, battery time is relatively the same. Will say only phone that might compare is Samsung Skyrocket HD that is set to come out this month(?), inside they are close to the same, but the screen is 4.6 inch super Amole plus.
Can anyone help me out? This is my battery on battery monitor widget. It says 1500 mah. I've only had my phone off the charger for 3 hours and I'm on 33 percent and watching it drop fast.

Battery Monitor Widget guesses at the capacity (or hard codes it). Go into the apps settings and you can tell it the battery capacity.
Also, make sure your using decent batteries. The two for $15 deals on ebay are not direct replacements. Stick with oem or brand names llike Anker.

Title pretty much says it all. I have a stock, i777 running on 2.3.6 and yesterday out of the blue, the phone would lock up (not respond to any touches on the screen, the power button or the volume rocker) so I would pull the battery out and restart it. When I did, the battery would drop off like 15%.
I did a search but didn't find any relevant issues. Many people simply complained about battery drops after regular restarts, not after freezes.
Would greatly appreciate some help!
Same thing, it has to do with the fuel guage of the phone

I said I was stock in the first post. Is there something else you need to know? Just to clarify, I haven't modded/rooted/etc. Still on stock 2.3.6 w/ Touchwiz.
The battery issue isn't the major issue, it's the freezing of the phone multiple times a day. Is there a diagnostic tool I can use that will show a log of the processes that were running when the phone froze? That could help me narrow down the issue.

I think you can avoid the battery level glitch by plugging in a charger before you reboot.
Maybe the freezes are being caused by a rogue app. I can't remember what the app is called at the moment, but there is one app that monitors cpu usage and can warn you if an app is using too much cpu time.
Watchdog and betterbatterystats. Yes u can monitor apps. But I wouldn't think an app would just start doing that out of the blue. Hmm. Its really hard to tell ya what to do if you aren't even rooted, may wanna think about doing that. Opens up a lot more options for fixing / monitoring.

Restarts are a [email protected] on battery. Every system app hits at same time. The way charge stays in batt. Anything under about half on batt charge...it will seem to drain quicker. Its the chemical makeup of batt that does it. Think of bubbles in soda bottle... More full bottle more fizz more bang. Less soda... Less bang.... And flat. Keep off any widgets ....they tap batt constantly as well as data...which hits batt. Ahh Physics and Chemistry, love it.

I don't think the sudden drop in battery is anything to worry about. My phone does that but the battery level slowly gets higher over time without charging. The actual charge level in the battery doesn't change.
Had the same exact thing happen sort of mine would heat up, freeze, then shut off, restart all by itself but it would hard reset. So my question is, Is it a brand new device or refeb? I got a referb and had the same thing at first it would freeze then after a while it would start heating up then resetting itself. So call warranty dept and ask for a replacement device and not a new battery.

No. There's something wrong. Force Close the messaging app and restart it. Wait a few hours and see if its battery usage goes down.
Possible...
The most likely culprit is the "wakelock" issue mentioned above.
Basically it means something... most likely a poorly written app (also most likely a 3rd party non-google app) is preventing the phone from entering its idle/sleep mode, in which it scales back the CPU to minimum, and other bits enter low power states to conserve battery life.
An app that likes to live on the internet or update frequently, or constantly wakes the device to do things, can cause large amounts of drain as well.
It is also possible that signal strength is a cause. Poor/low signal can keep the radio working at higher power levels and that drains battery fast.
Is there any way to check for wakelock applications causing issues? I have removed a few possible applications and force stopped others. I seem to be losing 1-3% battery per hour on idle. Normal now based on everyone's experience?
If it is a signal strength issue I can live with that but the drain still seems steep.
Sorry for the questions. Too new to this to be able to determine if there are issues and everyone is having great battery life.

Hello, all, since I've had my Note 2 I've been incredibly impressed with the battery live, much better than other droids I've owned. Within the last two weeks or so, however, I've seen a dramatic drop in battery life. Where I used to be able to last a day and a half without charging, The phone is now not capable of lasting through the day. There hasn't been any real change in my usage patterns, but I am constantly trying new apps, so I figured that one of the new ones must be the culprit. The stock battery stats indicated that Android System was consuming about 41 percent of the battery, which based on previous readings and having owned other droids seemed much too high. I downloaded Battery Stats Plus, which indicated hat the rogue app was wssyncmldm, consuming that same 41 percent. I wasn't familiar with this app, but google revealed that it manages ota updates? I tried rebooting the phone, and went back to Battery Stats Plus, which now indicated that same 41 percent, but named the app "Factory Test." I let the phone charge overnight to a full 100, then checking again today, I'm seeing similar numbers. Today Factory Test is listed at about 33 percent. Both apps are active in application manager, and reappear as soon as I force close them. Neither can be disabled on my stock, non-rooted note 2. I've not tried the factory reset just yet, was hoping to avoid that, but wondered if anyone had any suggestions.
Thanks so much, all!!!

I'm not sure how much help I can be, but I'll do my best.
Let's start with the obvious things
1. Try uninstalling any apps that you recently installed
2. In application manager go under all and look for the "wssyncmldm" culprit. I don't have it in my application manager but I have one that is very close in name
3. Have you recently installed any OTAs?
4. Are you rooted by any chance?
5. When I updated to the 4.1.2 update, I had a similar battery issue. I just ended up backing up all my apps with "Helium" (No root required if you plug it into a pc with some directions) and just did a factory in settings. It fixed the battery issue for me, though I never looked into it to see if it was this same culprit.
I hope I can help in some way, I'll try my best though!
