Figured out how to change the background in Ubuntu Touch. )
You just need to copy the appropriate picture to /home/phablet/Pictures/
Code:
#!/bin/bash
sudo echo
Sleep 1
ls /home/phablet/Pictures/
sleep 3
echo "Please enter a file from /home/phablet/Pictures for New Background:"
read filename
result=$filename
sudo cp /home/phablet/Pictures/$result /usr/share/unity8/graphics/tablet_background.jpg
sudo cp /home/phablet/Pictures/$result /usr/share/unity8/graphics/phone_background.jpg
echo "Ubuntu Touch will reboot in 3 seconds"
notify-send "Background Changed" "$result"
sleep 3
sudo reboot -p
This app will not work as of an update to unity8 and unity8-private from last night.
Will mess around and try to fix it.
With this update it'll read the Pictures folder so you don't have to remember the exact file name.

Im trying to change the screens here on my nexus 4 with your script but have no luck.
Are there any specific jpg characteristics i need?
Script is running fine but after reboot i found myself again with the background image it had also before.

Yea, I tried getting it on my nook and no dice. We'll need the apk. (hopefully it works with 2.3 but just doesn't show up in the Market)
I just put a request in the Xoom thread for Dolphin.

That's because it's Honeycomb only. I tried to decompile it to bypass the version check but it wont decompile correctly using apktool.

Is there a way to fool it into thinking one is using honney comb?
Sent from my NookColor using XDA Premium App
Guys... something to consider; if they set the SDK at level 11, they did so because it uses specific honeycomb calls that we cannot do. You can't "fool" it, because even if you did, it just means it will crash when it makes a call that it cannot do....
That's unfortunate. I was really looking fforward to trying it out

Ok I have another question. I transferred all my pics from my last phone to the DNA and they don't show up in the gallery app. They show up in quickpic though. Any wait to get them to show up there?
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
If you're rooted, try using file explorer to move the pictures from wherever they are to the gallery directory. Otherwise, send them to yourself and download them to the phone again.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
Try clearing cache on the gallery, or restart the phone and open it.
Make sure there isn't a .nomedia file in the directory of the pictures.
If all else fails you can move them to the default picture location, and you don't have to be rooted as the guy above me seems to think.
But the default gallery app seems to be really good for me about detecting pics.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
Download an app called rescan media from the play store, it'll fix your problem. :good:
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
Thanks everyone. Ill try a few of those
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
I didn't say he had to be rooted, I just said that it would make the process easier. He can just as easily send himself the pictures from the other app and download them to his gallery. OP, you should try whatever suggestion you think works best.

Has anyone else found the random hidden videos in their s3? These videos don't show up when you go to Gallery > videos. I found 2 videos in /system/media/video . 1 called android in space the other called sunset.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Yeah I found. Since then wondering what would be their use? They may have use for specific system feature.
The only way to have found them is by having root access or via es file explorer or something similar. Just another of Google's Easter eggs?

Haha never noticed them android in space is awesome.

They reside on the preload partition, have no use and come from Samsung.
Not exactly "hidden" if you ask me.

Not true, they are part of android, not just Samsung.
Also they are not in preload, they are part of system/media/ as already mentioned.
They are in all android installations, CyanogenMod has them, aosp has them etc. etc.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
The reason for them being on the device as with other phones and tablets is so you can check video play back along with checking the screen quality while playing videos.

I would say they were hidden, a normal user wouldn't be looking around the root file systems. Most people who don't know what UNIX is would have no idea that there are directories other than what they can see on /sdcard

From normal user perspective they can be defined as hidden. I agreed. Wih Root and android everything.pretty much. is naked.
Hello xda i have a galaxy note running PA on king kangers kernal and when i want install anything it wont let me select install when the menu pops. This started happening after I flashed cwm and then flashing back to twrp because i didnt like cwm.. at first I thought it was that part of the screen that wasn't responding but it responds fine to any other finger press in the lower right corner... what's wrong?? Thanks in advance for help.

Drop the apk in /data/app and reboot.
Drop it there and then install reboot or other way around??
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
Just paste it in.
May wanna fix permissions in recovery after, but just pasting it there should install it.
So it should be in the app drawer upon booting up.
OK I'll try that

Depending on the app,/apk it may require placing it in system/app folder.

It's your rom ....(which one are you using)?
I've had a few like that ....and you need a different browser.
Download boat browser from the play store....and install it.....or use dolphin browser as well.
Then use TIBU to freeze your default browser then reboot.
You should get downloads after that....if not ....you may need a different build....
If using a touchwiz based rom, this problem will occur on occasion.
Post back up with your results ...g
I'm using latest PA. I'll try what you said and post back..
