dear members,
i purchased the htc one x plus a couple of months back and rooted it to unlock its full potential and was running the CM10.1 4.2.2 FIRMWARE.... in order to return it to stock rom i relocked the bootloader and downloaded the RUU which during the installation gave me an error....i downloaded both the 1.14.709.17 and the 1.17.701.1 ruu's but apparently mine is 1.17.701.2 which i am not able to find at all...
i am stuck in the bootloader mode without a rom and it says that the phone is relocked at the top ... the hboot version is 1.40..i am now stuck with a 500$ paper weight...is it possible to install a rom any other way..any help will be deeply appreciated..
regards

As a matter of fact, if you search threads started by me... you will find a solution to that - because I also did the same thing and later on solved it.
The solution is in that thread...
That might make searching a bit easy

hi guys i am now a proud owner or a HTC hero on orange uk
the questions i have are this
im on the latest update from HTC them self for the orange network should i change this to a generic firmware, if so what one do you all recommend ?
why is my market place so empty i cant find alot of apps as in the the 1clickroot app ect ?
what is the best way of enabling root account on this mobile?
thanks in advance guys and gals
As far as I know, the only other option you have for a different ROM is the MoDaCo custom ROM. This is because HTC asks for your phone serial number before letting your download one of the official ROMs (as you probably found yourself on their website), and they know which phones were shipped to Orange or not. You'll find MoDaCo's ROM in a sticky in the Android Development section of the Hero forums.
It's possible this 'one click root' application has been removed from the market, as I think that officially they don't like people getting root access. The easiest way to get root though is to install the custom rom mentioned above. Just make sure you read through the various posts so you know what the problems with the latest release might be.

Not strictly true - MoDaCo has repacked "vanilla" HTC and carrier updates, in update.zip format, so you can apply them without going through the RUU process.
However, this does rely on having a Hero that hasn't already been patched to the new HBOOT and kernel that prevent such updates being applied.

I don't think the market is empty as such, I find the search is not that good e.g. searching '1clickroot' and '1 click root' will return different results.
As for rooting, look in the android dev section there are guides, I have seen one had videos in it which was more helpful.

I have an HTC Sensation XE that has been working fine until I upgraded it to 4.0.3
Since then it mounts the miniSD card as Read Only and many of my programs do not work and I get the response to that no SDcard is inserted
I have also los connection to my Microsoft Exchange, thus not being able to receive any emails on my phone
Can anyone help in how I could downgrade to a version previous than 4.0.3
I have the same problem, I've had a bit of a google and it seems the only way is to do something called 'root' your phone. Which is just like getting a higher password so you can have more control over your phone.
Before you can do this though you must first 'S-off' your phone, which disables some of the security measures your phone has to stop you removing proprietary software or messing with things you shouldn't. To do this you should go here: [edit] won't let me post link so search revolutionary'dot'io
Apparently for these purposes the Sensation and the Sensation XE are the same thing.
This is the nearest tutorial I could find: [edit] youtube /watch?v=kvg0i8in96M
Unfortunately it won't work for me as my hboot number isn't in the drop down box for Sensation on the revolutionary website.
It looks like my only remaining option is this.. [edit] search 'juopunutbear' which frankly I don't feel happy doing.
There are more steps to carry out which I haven't listed here as I've not investigated them too much as I got stuck on the hboot thing, also I'm a massive n00b at all this, so if there is any1 else out there that could point us in the right direction I would be hugely grateful.
hello guys.
i have the same damn problem with the Android 4 ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich). not really sure if i cant check my email or things like that cuz i never tried cuz my problem is bigger even, my wifi is not working. it doesn't says any error but it cant find any network. well the story started same as you. i hit on download the update or upgrade don't remember the expression. and boom... plenty of problems and dislikes.
To be honest cuz i dont like doing stuff before i knw all abt it i spent a week to read and read and read XDA and any other blogs (FYI, XDA is the best place to be) I read from the guides and everyone comments and every error checking and anything. yesterday i start my journey... and im here to share all my experience with you.
before i say anything i wanna tell you im not really sure exactly how to exactly downgrade as im still studding and investigating that why i cant flash the GB (Gingerbread) ROM. But I can 99% guide to to the steps you must take before doing that.
those steps are simply to Unlock + S-Off + Root + flashing any recovery.img + flashing any boot.img + flashing any ICS ROM....
i can even tell you how to unlock your phone to use any simcard.
these steps arent difficult with a good guide and good follower but not that easy... there are still perhaps 10000000000 of things not only me, either the most experience XDA (engineers, developer and so on) users have not experience yet.
soon im sure i will be able to guide you and any one to how to exactly downgrade from ICS to GB if there is any possible why...as i said before im still looking to find an answer and gonna keep my eyes on it. the good thing is im not afraid of trying and doing anything with my phone.
by the way im using HTC Sensation
hboot 1.27.0000 (one of the worst to do any kinds of treatment)
If you need any of that help dont hesitate to post here or pm me.

YOU CAN DOWNGRADE. I DID.
on my previous post i said i didn't but i also mentioned im looking forward to do it and so here i am, I DID DOWNGRADE.
and where have you read this... who said u cant?
you know why cuz read a lot and a lot during my downgrade process and i have never seen or read such post that if your boot-loader is unlocked and you are truly s-off(ed), you cant.
if you have said this just based on ur experience and ur very own knowledge then i should say drop me a line and ill kindly show u the way to do it. And if you have said this because you have read it anywhere in XDA or else where, kindly provide a link to the post please, so i can discuss the issue there as well as here.
have fun messing with ur device guys

hi i flashed my xperia ray with the ST18i_Official_4.0.4_Stock_ROM_RAY_jjdoctor i was on gingerbread 2.3.4 before and now i cant get past the cwm recovery screen it just keeps coming up and wont boot into the phone mode , any help wood be appreciated guys on what i have done wrong and hopefully i can rectify it
Can you please tell us in detail the steps you followed and what tools you used?
"I flashed it and it broke" is a bit hard to diagnose
1) I unlocked by bootloader by doing <thing you did>
2) I loaded flashtool and flashed <file X> I found <where'd you get file X>
3) Then I etc etc etc.
Then we can see if you missed a step, or did a step the wrong way around etc.
Cheers,
Tim
sorry lol was in a rush when typing this my bootloader was unlocked with the 2 probe method and wire and loaded the ST18i_Official_4.0.4_Stock_ROM_RAY_jjdoctor into the flashtool and just flashed , i got the file from the forums here i know i prob just done a stupid thing by flashing straight away but could really do with a step by step guide as im a noob at this kind of stuff or directed to a good guide , i also just restored the phone back to stock and its working again thanks to wotan client so i cant try again hopefully getting it right this time
right got it up and running with some messing about i managed to flash the xray kernel first then install the custom rom and works perfect only thing that didnt work was the phone data but will be sorting that out now or if anyone knows or had the same prob give me a hand lol
You have to add a new apn (Access point name) google for your correct provider. Ie Giffgaff apn

I got stuck a lot of times but i haven't asked about it... because I researched...
then when I get stuck, I repeat, get stuck again, revert then look for another process
It always pays to be prepared
Yeah yeah, everyone is new when we start modding their phones... but due to the age(relative) of the thread, there were already exchanges of questions and answers.
I bet you haven't heard or seen the help thread
Here's what I do EVERYTIME I do mods on my phone:
research (what files, how to do it, expected results)
research (fallback methods, including what others have done, read the threads/conversations/posts etc...)
yeah they do take a long time (2 weeks to 1 month)... then...
I executed the processes on my own, and boom! they WORKED
It pays to be prepared...
could you please ask you question at the Q&A thread and not open up a new thread every time you stumble upon a problem where your question may or may not be answered already?
Hi everyone,
I'm a complete noob when it comes to this stuff. Recently, my phone has been running really slow, and I remembered people saying that rooting and flashing custom roms will help increase the efficiency of the phone. I've been looking through tons of threads and countless google searches trying to find a tested and working method for BL unlock and root for a stock MB860 on Android 2.3.6 -- 4.5.145. Yet I haven't found anything. Can I get some suggestions/help? Thanks.
PS - I plan on getting the SGS4, but till I see some actual benchmarks/comparisons between the two chipsets that they phone is shipping with, I'll have to rely on my Atrix 4G. And right now, as I said earlier in the post, it's acting extremely sluggish in every sense of the word.

Wow thanks. Everyone posting on there says it's real easy to use. Unfortunately no one has system version 4.5.145 like I do. I'm not sure how important that actually is but I have read that version does matter. But it is nice to see people have used it successfully used it with 2.3.6. I posted on that thread and am waiting for a response. Thanks again.
I know there are a thousand threads on Rooting/Unlocking and Custom ROM's for the Atrix, because I've spent the last 3 days reading every one I could find. However, most of them appear to be very dated and often conflicting. As I'm coming to the game a little late I was hoping for some assistance on how to proceed.
Here's what I have;
AT&T Motorola Atrix 4G (I bought this new under contract, kept it for 2 years, upgraded to another phone and this one has been a paperweight for the past 18 months) AT&T will give me an unlock code if I ask, but I'm a little confused by the conflicting reports on whether to do it this way or not.
It's an MB860
FW Version 4.5.141
OS Version 2.3.6
Baseband N_01.77.37P
Webtop WT-1.2.0-110_OLY-6
Kernel Version 2.6.32.9
Build 4.5.141
I'd like to Unlock it so I can run a Foreign SIM card, I'd like to Root it so I can add non-approved apps, and I'd like to play with some ROM's, Redpill has some very good user reviews so I'm thinking of giving it a try but I'm not stuck on it.
Obviously don't want to brick the phone, so any advice would be appreciated, the more detailed the better
I have Windows 8.1, Mac OS X, and Windows XP-SP3 computers to work with.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
While certain threads are (or might seem) outdated and/or conflicting, there are also other threads that serve as a kind of index of the most current methods and procedures. That should help you get around. Plus there are threads and guides written especially for noobs...
Yes, the code from AT&T is the safest and simplest way to do SIM unlock. Only important point here is that the device must be running the official Moto/AT&T firmware at the time of unlock. I'm not sure what kind of "conflicting information" you came across, to my knowledge nobody who's used the code as described never had any problems.
As for rooting, regardless of the variant or firmware version of your device, the preinstall method is the one to use. By far the most universal, plus personally and generally I dislike any "automatic", "one-click" or similar methods - for me at least they are usually more trouble than they're worth.
As for playing with ROMs, you first need to unlock your BL, then install a custom recovery, and then you have a shot at ROMs. So quite a wide topic with plenty enough threads created on the subject, so no point in repeating what's already said countless times. By the time you're done with other things mentioned (SIM unlock, rooting) you should be able to find your way around.

Thanks for the quick reply. I've requested an unlock code from AT&T, should be good to go in 48 hours.
In the mean time, is it important that I have it unlocked before I root, or will it matter?
Update
I realize this may seem to be off-topic but I'm not asking for assistance with this newest update, I'm only using the experience to help clarify my concerns about the Atrix.
Waiting for my requisite 24 hours before unlocking the SIM on my Moto Atrix. While I'm waiting i decided to gain a little experience by rooting a Galaxy S5570 and installing a custom Rom.
Like the Atrix there are dozens if not hundreds of threads, videos, tutorials etc for how to accomplish this. I found the most recent one I could that seemed to be a complete tutorial and it was dated from January of this year (much newer than any threads I've found on the Atrix BTW)
Rooting went fine. Confirmed with a Root Test app.
Loaded a CWM 6.0.4.5 recovery package as instructed and ended up bricking the phone. By all accounts this tutorial was for the exact model of phone with the exact same FW and Android version.
This is no big loss as it was a cheap phone that I wasn't using anyway, but it certainly opened my eyes to the risks involved in attempting this procedure on the more costly Atrix.
I'd really appreciate if anyone could point me in the direction of a current procedure for Rooting, Unlocking the Bootloader and installing a custom ROM on the Atrix with the specs from my Original Post. If any of you have the same phone and had success following a particular procedure I would greatly appreciate some links.
I know how forums work, and I know there are always the guys that reply RTFM to every noobs questions, as someone with technical skills in other areas I can generally tell the difference between someone who just doesn't want to bother doing the Due Diligence and someone who is struggling to sort through the myriad solutions to find the one that's right. I really don't want to brick this phone so any pointed advice would be greatly appreciated.

Meanwhile you have ROMs all over the place here in the Atrix 4G section of xda that you are not going to go download, rather you are going to request a ROM for the phone instead. Head over to the development section and download a ROM instead of requesting the necessary resources that are already available to you.
