Hi,
I'm new and though I've watched the noob video I hope I'm in the right place, if not please dont get angry ><.
2 days ago I've flashed into stock rom for my SG3 (GT-i9300) back from my RGUI v5 Build number: MIUI-2.8.3 IMM76D / Kernal version: 3.0.38-Siyah-s3-v1.3.9c
Ask me why? because I've had some issues trying to install official MIUI v4 from the international website and always I get error: "Status 7" with a dead android inside. (Again, Why ? because I as hoping it would make my SG3 even smoother... more responsive)
So I though perhaps flashing it from a stock rom might work, so I used Odin and everything went fine, again ofcourse I got the error and went back to CWM to restore the backup i've made before flashing anything, I dont really mind about the error right now, I've seen similar posts about it and I shall continue investigating it, What's more important is on the next phrase.
Today I found out that all my photos were deleted, after restoring my RGUI v5 rom 2 days ago ofcourse....
I'm not sure how could the situation get any better though I remember previously flashing rom's that the SD card never being touched and I guess I was wrong.
What I wanted to ask is, I just got more CWM backup files on my external SD, does anyone knows if CWM backup restores user data aswell or should I just give up ?
Helpfull tips of how to restore it could be usefull (Oh lord, please spare me I beg you, I'll pray more).
Thanks in advance.
I've flashed hundreds of times on S1, S2 and now S3 and never lost any data or photos that are on either the internal or external sd cards.
Not sure but could it be that you somehow hit format sd card in cwm by accident?

Have you searched your internal and external storage? Maybe they were only stored on a different location so that the stock Gallery cannot find them?
Storages are either completely wiped or not wiped - but you don't only loose one particular folder

I tried to install 3rd party Gallery program which scans my SD's for photos and it could nothing.... Its probably not there.
I think all is lost unless one of my backups contains them.

Unfortunately cwm backups do not backup stuff on the sd card like photos. Looks like you've lost them man.

In a more optimistic view there are worse things, and although its quite hard to swollow all I've got left to do is say thanks to every one for trying...
Thanks.
Sorry, but this is a "Well Duh..." moment.... Flashing any stock rom through ODIN will always wipe the data partition on the internal sd card. You need to backup the internal stuff onto your PC. Only a stock firmware that has been modded will allow a non-wipe flash and you usually need to be rooted as it is no longer a stock rom.
You should be able to restore a nandroid backup of a stock rom too without wiping the internal sd card as this is only putting the system data back onto your phone...

It almost looked like a life saver case but it seems to target the external SD card only.
I can't seem to find a setting to switch into internal SD...
Hello everyone. I bought my sgs2 pre-rooted and have always had the problem of what looks to be an internal SD card partition. I read thought the thread below as well as a few others that say unmounting/remounting the SD card should fix the problem, however, I am under the impression that is for the External SD card.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1640983
When I go to “Setting–>Storage” I have the following:
Internal Storage
Total Space 1.97 gb
Available 1.21 gb
Internal Storage
Total Space 11.36 gb
SD[Card
Total Space 14.83 gb
Anyone have any thoughts? I have plenty of space on my phone, however, it seems that everything I install is being put into that first Internal storage space. I need to get this internal "partition" removed to have the full amount of space (16gb) of internal storage.
ps: This was a fresh AOKP flash after clearing all data and factory setting twice before flashing.
I see nothing wrong here. You are supposed to have a 2gb partition for apps to install to. If you try and change that you are asking for problems.

So everything is Okay?? Whenever I go to camera (on AOKP's 8/30 JB) it says "SD card is running out of space". Also, I do not have that many apps installed, some apps won't be able to save data.

Stock ICS? as in: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746181
I had this before and had same issues. I flashed to CM9/AOKP ICS and had same problem, but was able to save location where Camera saved images.
But you don't need more internal storage. That has nothing to do with your problem.
I would flash it back to stock gingerbread and see if you still have the same problem.

The problem with phone memory as in apps saving/camera or to see if the storage page looks any different than what it does?
Also, Are there any extra steps needed to go from JB to GB? I have never flashed down from a newer version before.
Thanks for the help Pirateghost

Thanks Snipe. When I had ICS 7.3 aokp i was able to change that, but could not find a way to fix it in JB. One thing after the next I started getting paranoid that I fluxed something up... Thanks for the re-assurance. I may just wait until a newer build is out for AOKP.
Thanks for the help everyone, I apologize for spamming the forums. I have been avid reading these since I started flashing back in May, I guess everyone has to create a username eventually.

My phone says that I have 19.09gb available. It has 9.97gb being used up by other. Can someone tell me what this "Other" is referring too? I just recently flashed the deodex stock 4.2.2 rom and the only other thing on my phone is some photos and videos that take up 2.41gb.
is the files you put on your phone that are not in folders like rom.zips mods

I am using TWRP, what is the reasoning that it didnt wipe everything when I wipe it after the install? Also what all do I need to wipe, there isnt an sdcard option using TWRP, only thing is see is " dalvik cache, cache, data, system, usb-otg". Also is there anyplace on the phone memory that is safe from being wiped?
It has to do with the partitions of the sd card being changed in 4.2.2 allowing for multi user support. Do as I suggested, pull all files off and then in that menu if you click data I believe that will wipe your sd since everything is stored in that folder. A regular factory reset just skips over the virtual sd card.

Im starting to think that the duplicates are what they call symlinks, because they dont actually take up anymore space, and that they are in about 3 different locations

Correct. All files are actually stored in /data/media and now with 4.2, /data/media/0

If this is true, couldn't one just remove the symlinks and fix the issue? I have the same issue but I'm not sure i feel like all the trouble just to get back a few gigs.

They are symlinks, don't remove them it will break things. Besides they are recreated on boot.
Wiping your phone and SD partition and starting from scratch doesn't solve the issue of almost 10gigs taken up and not knowing what it is. The stock rom itself surly isn't 10 gigs, we all know that for a fact. I just did a complete wipe of everything on my phone, and I'm still short 10 gigs. I paid for a 32 gig phone under the impression that I was getting 32 gigs of SD space for my personal use. Not 10 of it being used in some "other" category. HTC really dropped the ball on this. Just when you buy a phone with removable SD, advertised as 32 gigs, you GET that 32....well minus a gig or 2 for drivers for the card, but system files are stored on their own partition on the phone itself while you have full use of the SD card. When i go through file explorer, I see 2-3 different paths to get to the same point on my SD car which makes no dang sense to me. And I've been tempted to delete them but I'm afraid to do so. I've tried moving them and they end up coming back..obviously, after a reboot. There should be one path from the root of the system files to get to SD, not 3. On my phone, I've got SD, MMT, and storage, and all of them lead to the same end point, some with a few more stops along the way than others. HTC really dropped the ball when it comes to the user ability over storage management, and what they advertised vs what they provide in terms of storage capacity in this device. Would I return it? hell no. i love this phone despite this flaw. Would i go for it again knowing what I know now... honestly I'm unsure. I'd probably save up a little more and go for the 64 gig..be a little miffed over losing 10 gigs, but at least I'd know I still have plenty of space left as opposed to now. I take lots of pics of my family and i love music, so this is my MP3 Player as well. Not to mention any backups I do of the system and what not
Side note, I in fact asked this question when i first bought the phone when it made it's US debut, and got all sorts of off the wall answers.

So all the help is welcome.

Clockwork installed now
Superuser rights.
only need help how to install the external to internal memory now.
Im not quite sure what youre getting at but ill give it a shot. Theres no way to swap the internal to external memory. Apps and their data get stored on the internal storage. By default theres only a couple things you can have saved to the external memory card. There is an app called folder mount that allows you to save apps/data on the memory card though.

Once you install a custom recovery yoj cant boot to stock recovery because its overwritten by the custom version. Thats a mega thread for everything i9500 and i9505. I would try reflashing the recovery to see if it fixes it. If not you might have to odin back to stock. This is also the verizon specific forum for the s4 so posting in your devices specific forum would probably get you more help.

Not a problem. Glad i could point you in the right direction. If you made any backups you might want to move those to external storage. They are fairly large. I have a couple 1 gig+ games and several smaller ones and still have 5 or 6 gigs left.

thats why i wanted and hoped the swap would help the problem.
tho i just made more problems and consumed to mutch time :silly:
i think i just have to stick around on the problem and hope samsung will fix of have a solution to this in time.
i did not make any backups. so i just have to start frome scratch tomorrow.
thanks for all the help again and gl helping others.
You could also try the app Folder Mount in the Play Store here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devasque.fmount&hl=en this will allow you to put the "data" folders associated with larger apps on the SD card. If you are looking to swap internal to external memory the other suggested thread will help you do that. There are pro's and cons to it and when you factory reset or change ROM's you need to do it all over again.
I searched the forums and I don't see anything sorry if I missed it. Is there a work around to save apps to sd card? Tried updating some apps and phone is telling me insufficient storage. Apps to sd card?
Anyone have any ideas how to get apps to sd card tried deleting some apps due to insufficient space (can't even update a app) deleted 3 apps and still can't download Folder Mount as suggested. Any help would be much appropriated as I am stuck can't update apps or install like this. Did I miss a work around in the OP?
How bad is your storage situation? In terms of MB available?
Also, do you already have Titanium Backup installed? If so, just back up a bunch of apps to your SD card, delete the installs, and then restore from the backups after you've got Folder Mount running and your storage cleared up.

As a reminder, the "/mnt/sdcard" device is INTERNAL memory on this phone. You want to move your apps to /mnt/extSdCard, which is the microsd slot.
I've never tried it, but pretty sure I saw an option in Titanium Backup to move app to sd.

If I did that wouldn't I still have the same problem when I revert back to stock Rom? Or you thinking flash that save that app(if its a app at all, not sure if the rom your talking about has it baked into it or not) on titanium and restore it on other rom?

Thanks for the response. So can I go into root explorer and just move that stuff to that designation to fix it?

No, you can't just move them there. Applications won't be recognized if you just pick them up and move them.
If you choose to use Folder Mount, that's where you want to move things to.
can't

Ok never mind. That isn't going to work. I can't download folder mount that is kind of my problem. out of space when I have plenty. as shown in the screen shots. So basically I am going to have to wipe everything and use my titanium backup to restore apps? I have a feeling even if I erase all of the apps it will still say that as I have so much storage free(internal). Sigh
There are multiple me7 based ROMS that can be flashed that have native app to sd

very strange...looks like you have plenty of storage available. Have you tried puling the battery...downloading several different apps?
Tried

I haven't pulled the battery oddly enough..(you would think that I would have done that first)... I will try that when I get home as it is in a otterbox case and I am at work and it's a pain to get out. As far as ME7 Builds go last I heard once you flash to a ME7 build you would be stock on ME7. Which I am not trying to do. I am happy with touchwhiz at the moment. Not really into the plain dark look as it is just that to plain for me. Which Rom where you suggesting that you can revert back to a MDK build with? I have a nandroid already. But I tried deleting apps to see if if would let me download it and all it does is delete that app and I can't put the app i just took off back on. With all the storage available. Just kind of baffled that no one has really ran into this. I have TWRP on it now. I might switch it to 4EXT Recovery as it just has way more options.
1. Deleted apps no difference
2. Deleted Cache no difference (TWRP style wipe)
3. When I get off going to try and wipe Delv/Cach (see if that does anything)
4. If all else fails I will do a complete wipe and start with that app.(Even though you can just change the file destination in root explorer to go to sd card. There is also 2 places it stores on your phone you have a internal sd and a emulated storage. I believe this is wear the hang up is being caused.
Just seems strange that you are getting any type of error with the amount of internal storage you have available. When you get an app from tue store itsaves to your phones internal storage, which is not even close to being full. Also if you are rooted you can go back and forth between MDK and ME7 builds. Devs dont really mess with bootloaders when making roms...
