Is there any way to get volume rocker music controls without rooting and installing a custom ROM? I've tried apps like PlayerPro and PowerAmp but they don't seem to work for me
I've been looking too. I was hoping there was a flashable MOD that I could add to stock (odex) since at the moment it's the only missing functionality that I'm really wishing I had... I haven't seen anything though...
ive been tryin out the 4.3 roms and there battery sucks on every single one of them, I mostly like the volume rocker too since I listen to music all day. I hope theres a flashable mode to put this on ics.

Does anyone know if one of these exists? Specifically, I am looking for a build/kernel that will allow me to control music either through headset buttons (via PowerAmp) or when the screen is off through the side volume buttons. All I need to replace my iPod!
Dunno, but that functionality is so good it ought to be in stock Android. My OptT is still stock and that's what I miss the most on my old CM-powered G1.
you should flash mik_os CM7 build for Optimus T. I have it on mine and it allows you to do this and works well. Still a few kinks they are working out, but nothing terrible.
Howdy guys,
So I was wondering if there was any way to implement the long press volume to skip tracks into JT's stock gingerbread. I know there are a few music players out there that do this as a feature but be it because of money or generally not liking thing I was hoping to be able to do this with the stock player. Any advice?

I'm pretty sure if the screen is off and you have music playing, you can use the volume rocker to skip.
Hey, I was on CM7 for a while and then switched over to the new eclipse 2.1 and the one thing I really loved about the CM7 was I had control of changing the songs using the volume buttons so I didn't have to actually take out my phone to wake it up to change the song.
Is there a way to have these music controls added onto eclipse? If anyone knows a way, please let me know. Thanks.
wow, your thread reminded me that my old Kyocera 7135 did that (how many years ago was THAT?), what a great feature that was!
I'm having issues where my i9300 is not navigating through music tracks on CM10 based ROMs.
On stock, pressing and holding the volume key will make the volume go up or down until either limit is met. Now, on CM10 based ROMs, the volume will only increase or decrease by one point but the music tracks do not advance.
I have used stock ELLA ROM with a flashable mod, CM10, PACMan ROM and JellyBam.
JellyBam has the unfortunate effect of crashing PowerAMP if I enable to AOKP lockscreen volume button music control, so I can't use that ROM (nor did I want to, I was just testing it).
I am using PowerAMP with the ICS lockscreen turned on.
This works flawlessly with my HD2 so I know exactly what I should be doing, it just seems this particular handset doesn't want to work.
Does anyone else have this issue or know of a proper guaranteed fix?
Thanks in advance,
Dan
Is there a general mod that can be loaded to enable media next/previous track control using the volume rocker or is this something that has to be baked into the ROM you're using?
Thanks!
I'm not sure about stock players, but Poweramp has that feature built in (long press to skip to next track). If you've never tried Poweramp, you're missing out. Makes your music sound incredible.

Really only interested in using it for Spotify. I've used ROMs in the past which have included this functionality and worked with pretty much any player (including Spotify), but the ROM I'm on now (GeeWiz Media) doesn't and I'm really missing this feature.
I would suggest posting this question on his thread over in the development forum, he's been pretty good about listening to what people want and implementing features. Couldn't hurt to ask.
